I can't imagine recommending a psychiatrist more highly than David Schab. He took care of someone close to me with extraordinary insight and commitment, acting quickly to help this person, who was suffering greatly, changing his schedule, and making observations we never could have come to on our own. He was able to explain why things that seemed chaotic and uncontrollable were happening, which was greatly reassuring, because it put some difficult developments in a clear medical framework and gave us a path forward. Though his training is elite, he brings a level of personal compassion and practical, down-to-earth advice that can be hard to find. Some mental health professionals have a "make another appointment in a week" distance from their work but Dr. Schab brings a level to personal commitment to the easing of suffering that is really rare.

Dr. Schab's colleagues, of which I am one, turn to him with some of their most difficult referrals. He offers a combination that is rare these days: he is an astute listener and smart about complex diagnostic situations. Gently and insightfully, Dr. Schab tells his patients his best thoughts on a course he believes is right for them, not the one that happens to fit some preconceived doctrine. He is skilled with both medications and talk therapies and thus able to tailor treatments to his patients and employ a variety of tools to get them well.
