love the office and staff. my provider is excellent and i would definitely recommend.
Soho MD was unprofessional and uncaring. Their staff seemed most interested in scheduling appointments and making money off me than actually helping me. The best adjective I could use to describe their psychiatry is “WEAK” and “TIMID”. And when it came time to actually help me, when I really needed them, they said they were unable to help me and simply offered to refer me to someone else. And they waited to tell me this so that I had to pay for an appointment instead of letting me know in a timely manner. They sat on this information that was time sensitive to make money off of me. Their facility seemed newish but was so disorganized, I always ended up in a different office, and the AC was always broken. The whole experience left such a bad taste in my mouth that I felt compelled to write my first bad review of any company ever. EVER. In addition, the medication I was prescribed did absolutely nothing for my condition/symptoms and I suffered because of it. Do NOT waste your time, money, or emotional energy with this company.
Caring, passionate and knowledgeable are the three terms that come to mind when dealing with ShohoMD.
Robert is this best.Patient, caring and none judgmental.
The video appointments are so convenient for my busy working mom schedule. The provider I chose (Dr Sim) is down to earth and insightful.
Kimberly Meehan is a brilliant practitioner and equally good listener. She seems to have a thorough understanding, not only of psychopharmacology, but of the intersection between medicine, supplements, and their physiological response. She shares her knowledge graciously and I always feel smarter and in good hands after having met with her.
The office staff is completely in competent. I waited almost 3 hours for my frost appointment. My second appointment the front desk forgot to check me in even though i talked to them for about ten minutes over a billing issue. Ive been trying to get in touch with the office for over a week via email, phone, and their app with no one reaching out. This is extremely upsetting to me while starting new meds with the potential serious side effects as well as constantly adjusting dosages. I would give them zero stars. UPDATE:::: This doctor's office dropped me because they couldn't had me off to their NP's. They refused to carry my prescriptions until I could find a new psychiatrist. Which is medical negligence as these are NOT medications you can simply start taking without going into withdraw. I have contacted them about getting a referral letter to see a new psych which was met with radio silence. DO NOT GO TO THEM THEY ARE EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND A WASTE OF YOUR TIME AND MONEY.
Don't come here, 20 mins 250 out of network. Having trouble concentrating the the guy told me nothing useful except stop taking my wholefoods supplements and meditate... First time and last time seeing a shrink.
Amaka is the BEST!
Jacques is fantastic. I’ve never felt this Level of attention to my health. Very comprehensive!
I love the new location it makes you feel very at home
Great staff, love them.
Excellent environment. Love the furniture and staff is friendly..
My first virtual visit with Stefanie was GREAT!
We've had an excellent experience with SohoMD so far. The telepsych model might not be for everyone, but for a high school student with a busy schedule about to go off to college possibly in a different state, it's ideal. Both our practitioners have been outstanding (Allie Clark and Mariah Ely), making appointments online has been super easy, billing and insurance has worked out just fine, and in general the practice has been responsive and supportive.
Just had first video chat. It was absolutely great! It is perfect for when one doesn't have the ability to meet in person every time.
Always easy and quick appointments. They always try and work around your schedule.
This place is a scam. Basically just an office that collects and charges credit cards for no service at all.
It’s been 2 weeks since my appointment and I have contacted them by email 8 times with no response over that entire time and over ten times by phone with no response. I think they stay afloat by exaserbating mental illness so patients have little choice than I come back.
I needed help and I found it at SohoMD. I am pleased that I chose SohoMD and got what I was looking for.
Being required to take an hour out of your day for a video call BEFORE you can even speak to an actual physician that can help you is annoying. But then doing that and getting a phone call the night before your appointment to tell you it needs to be rescheduled because the provider you are scheduled to see the NEXT day is no longer with the practice is just unprofessional and unorganized. Get it together Soho.
If I could give no stars I would. Scheduled appt four days ago, and when I called to confirm I was running late was told there was no appointment in system. On the spot scheduled another appointment for an hour later, and when I arrived was told there still wasn’t appointment in system. Dr came in late regardless of “having no appointments until way later” which is never a good sign. Then dr spoke to me for 40 minutes before announcing he was “uneqquipped to deal with this type of mental disorder”. Waste of time and money, highly advise against.
Absolutely disappointing experience. I made a 9 AM appointment a week in advance. I arrived 10 minutes for my appointment to check in. After 15 minutes someone was called before me by the provider I was supposed to see. By 945 no one had spoken to me about my appointment being behind. After getting up after watching everyone in the waiting room be called and being the last one sitting there, I asked the receptionist how much longer. The person's appointment before mine was 40 minutes, so he wouldn't be out till about 10, putting me out of there at 11 after what they said would be an hour appointment. Factor in going to and from work that's about 3.5 hours wasted. It's truly disheartening that there is no communication to let people know their appointments are going to be up to an hour behind. I could have asked to reschedule much sooner had I known there was some sort of delay. I considered rescheduling but a first impression is important, especially when you are making an appointment to try and help yourself. I have no faith that if I were to reschedule I would be seen on time. Maybe a new age method of helping people with anxiety is too just hit them with more anxiety and disappointment. But there's a sign of you leave a yelp review you can get a free stress ball. Will it be over an hour wait to receive that too?
They have switched to only video appointments. No one ever answers the phone when you call. I’ve called and left messages for my provider because I needed to schedule an appointment to get a medication refill and had my calls not returned multiple times. I am having my records transferred because this is what I would consider negligent care. Due to not being able to get in touch I’ve suffered withdrawals from my medications, I would not recommend this practice to anyone. Money is the only thing that matters not mental health.
Unfortunately two of the best psychiatrists Ive ever had have left their company all within the span of less than 6 months apart. SohoMedical has also stolen money, does not pick up calls, return calls, and they make it neary impossible to get in touch with doctors. If someone were to have an emergency, I can 100% guarantee you, their office would not respond or in any way, be of use. This is a warning, do not rely on SohoMD.
I like my psych NP a lot. Great location. They work with you to do video sessions. Everyone in the office is very nice and organized. They also take a lot of insurances which is hard to find in a provide practice setting for medication management. I agree with other reviewers: the ipad intakes are really invasive. It’s basically a sanitized (possibly triggering) psychosocial without a professional present.
Dr.Jacobs is truly the best. She has been an amazing resource for me.
Amy and Tonie have given me the tools to grow and become more successful. I can truly say my mental health has transformed for the better. I feel more confident and better about myself over all.
I'd like to echo everything problematic that you've read about this office. I have been going to their downtown Manhattan office for about a year and half on and off. My provider was/is understanding, empathetic, and seems like he cares about his clients. (He is the only reason why this review isn't 1 star). My experience was fine until I experienced a customer service issue. I was supposed to have a phone call appt with my provider and I never received a call from him, I waited right by my phone. I tried calling/texting/messaging the office many times that day and the following days to reschedule my appointment. Not only did I never receive a call, I received a copay charge and a no-show charge. They eventually messaged me back, but completely disregarded my billing inquires and the message asked that I go online to schedule another appointment. I also tried calling their billing department and it is an ABSOLUTE DISASTER. I tried calling and leaving messages multiple times. Eventually I got through. The billing department says that it is now in their“concerns” department. I asked for a phone number to their concerns department and they gave me the phone number BACK to the SOHOMD number, which I had already called multiple times! I finally got so fed up and asked to be completely discharged from their practice. We as clients deserve better services.
Wish I could give 0 stars for their medical negligence and cold lack of compassion. I was given a prescription where nothing was explained to me. When I reached out several days later not feeling well questioning if it could be a side effect I was told that I was a liar and my issues were not normal and immediately dropped as a patient. They had no intention of helping me. (By the way a quick google search let me know all of my side effect were very common based on the prescription. Thanks SohoMd.) they should definitely not be in business for mental health.
Quiet, clean and comfortable office, compassionate care
The billing staff here is completely and utterly incompetent and unethical. I had to bug them like 10 times a day for WEEKS before they would finally email me an itemized receipt (so I could get reimbursed by FSA). Oh and my insurance company literally told me to file a complaint against them because they charged me for an appointment they weren't supposed to, so I'm in the process of going through that now... It's unfortunate because the actual nurse practitioner I've been seeing has been relatively helpful, but it's just NOT worth all the other problems this place has.
$950 for ONE SESSION out of pocket!? That is purely criminal. I can not believe this practice has the audacity to think they are "helping" people for that amount of money. It's disgusting.
I had a not great experience with SohoMD. My doctor was very impersonal. They took every chance to charge me with no show fees (despite me being a good patient and them never sending out an appointment reminder or confirmation) and it took two weeks to get any movement on a refund. Additionally, they waited until I had 5 days left of my prescription to tell me my new insurance is not taken by them, and they wouldn't send me a hold over prescription until I could see my new doctor unless I booked another appointment and payed out of pocket. All around it seemed like a very disorganized business and I did not have a good experience.
Allie Clark is super kind and helpful!
Always courteous and easy to deal with. Great office, great doctors, great care. Thank you.
People start reporting them to FTC. The complaints can be done online. Why are you letting these people get away with robbing you??? That is just plain robbery. They are taking your money to give you advice and vitamins. That's malpractice. Talk about negligence and bad treatment. They are dealing with very sensitive things and if they are billing your insurance. Report to your insurance that they didn't treat you. I was looking at the place for family member and after seeing these reviews I was disgusted and shocked at that there was a business in robbery.
The NP Marissa was horrible today. She was very cold and showed a lack of compassion. After I wasted so much time and money to get to Soho MD she tells me they don’t take care of people that are Bipolar. But nowhere on there website or on the phone was this mentioned. After she said that , she could not wait to get rid of me , just kept repeating to call my insurance. I was in the office for only 20min but I’m sure they charged my insurance the full amount. I would NOT recommend them to anyone and plan to spread the word.
Love the ease of video conference. I feel really well taken care of and listened to. Allison Clark has been a great help to me now for nearly 6 months.
Absolutely amazing. Highly recommended. Very professional and useful.
Therapy with Shayla is great! But the staff on the adminitrative side is terrible unprofessional and disorganized! I wish she was in another in network office
the office staff is always very friendly without being pushy and accommodating and the atmosphere is relaxing; i was listened to and all my needs/concerns were addressed accordingly, highly recommend, thank you
Most professional mental health practice I’ve found in the city. Awesome staff and team of practitioners and doctors. They can help you.
Really like my provider. It is definitely primarily an appointment for medication management, so I would not expect a therapy session. The office is clean and well-appointed, though not fancy. No issues with billing, and my prescriptions came through online within a half hour of leaving.
Terrible, sloppy service and sub-par therapy, get you in and out within 20 minutes and you have to wait four weeks to make another appointment. Messed up my second session so I was seeing a completely new therapist rather than the one I saw the first time which wasn't helpful. They also Initially told me the co-pay was $25, and then after going twice they called and said it was actually $50 and I owed them the extra for the two other sessions. I didn't see why I should have to pay for their mistake and the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. AVOID!!!
Excellent Nurse Practitioners. I have been seeing their staff for going on 3 years now. Despite some billing issues that seemed to be a result of office software changes and miscommunication between insurance and the office, I have been well taken care of. Each practitioner I've had over the 3 years has been a highly rational person with an evidence-first mindset. They know the medications back-to-front, the modern studies on efficacy, and experimental treatments. I can't recommend them enough.
Nice office, Christina Jacobs is so sweet and great to talk to and helps with prescription mgmt! Highly recommend!
Love love love. So professional. I had insurance issues and they did a lot to help me out and accommodated me accordingly. Highly recommend Uzoamaka Orji she sees me through telehealth and is always so helpful.. I can’t help but to smile when I finish her sessions ..
I've had a great experience with SohoMD. I worked with a psych nurse and now started teletherapy. I was able to visit both of them from the comfort of my living room. I'm so grateful they offer these convenient services. The customer service representatives I've spoken to are also always friendly and helpful. Highly recommend to anyone!
I like the nurse practitioner I see here but the other staff is completely unprofessional. No one calls or emails you back. I've had to call days in a row and finally express my frustration to get someone to get back in touch with me. This happened once last month and they made some excuse, so I thought I'd let it go because its understandable that businesses to go through growing pains, but now its happening again. I literally can't get anyone to call me back, and they are holding my lab results! Unfortunately due to this I will not be continuing treatment, and as you may know it is disheartening to start seeing a medical professional and then have to switch and start over somewhere else, so I'm leaving this review so no one else has to go through the whole rigamarole.
Christina is an excellent clinician. She is very knowledgeable, patient, and caring. Her knowledge of pharmacology is outstanding, far better than I have experienced with other clinicians. She listens and works with you to find the best treatment plan and will adjust treatment to meet your needs. Comparing to other psychiatric clinicians I have seen in my life, Christina is the best.
I go to SOHO MD and I could not recommend it more. It is a wonderful office. I see Dr Christina Jacobs and I LOVE her. So grateful I found SOHO MD
Horrible. Avoid this place. I was there once a year and a half ago. Watch your credit card information too, they will steal and misuse.
Dr. Robert Weston is compassionate and smart. He methodically explains treatment options and gives choices. He always tries to help based on how I feel, he is not a pill pusher. He is very trustworthy.
Very calm environment and helpful doctors. Admin needs help, but my doc is worth the struggles with the main desk.
Fantastic experience each time. Great professionals, amazing service. I highly recommend.
Scheduling an appointment here was such a nightmare I eventually just gave up. I showed up to one appointment which I'd scheduled on ZocDoc and was told that they didn't have it in the system, despite getting multiple confirmation emails. I rescheduled, and was informed the day before the appointment that the office would be closed, and that sessions would have to take place over video (an impossibility for what I was going in for). Rescheduled again, and was then informed an hour and a half before the appointment time that they'd booked me with someone out of my insurance network, and would thus have to pay $350 out of pocket or wait til the next week. They're an absolute organizational shitshow, and should not be taking new patients if this is how poorly they are run.
My NP is fine but I’m stunned by the extent to which the front desk people don’t do their job. I’ve emailed many times and have never received a response. Called many times, no answer. Never got response to my voicemails. After my last tele-session my NP said the front desk would call to schedule my next appointment but they never did. Now I’m on my last refill and cannot reach anyone. Going to have to go in person and then stop going there. What are the front desk staff doing???
Amazing service and care providers are great! It makes healthcare so much easier!
If you really suffer with mental health issues - this is not the company for you. The doctor I've been seeing is great but there is always an admin-related issue, which means that even if you book in advance and your appointment is confirmed, you will receive all the reminders but less than 24 hours before the appointment something will come up and you can't get hold of anyone to fix it. They might lift the cancellation fee, but you cannot rely on the appointment actually happening when you expect it to. Their administration will add to your anxiety and there’s no transparency when it comes to billing. They’ll take money off your card at random and if you ask for itemized billing or any form of transparency they disappear! Please go somewhere where the practice actually respects mental health issues.
I feel sorry for the NP's who work here. Management and operations will have you running in circles. First poor experience was just like previous reviews. There is no guarantee that you will see the NP you are seeing or promised to see. It's seems the employees at SoHoMD are leaving because they see the lack of management. What really made me write this review was the price bait and switch. I asked them in email what the cost was and they confirmed since I took a break from my previous bad experience of my NP leaving and then not telling me until last minute. When I went to pay, they said the price would increase by 50% for future appointments right after they swiped my card. I would not recommend because you will get burned and have to switch a couples months later.
Excellent practice which offers video consultations that I find very convenient given my busy schedule! Thank you to Jacklyn Esterman!
Amy is an amazing therapist, but the admin side of SohoMD is horrible. They took $230 out of my bank account at 2AM one night with no warning. Constantly forgot to take out my copay and then randomly charged my card. Trying to get someone to pick up the phone at the office was impossible. Many times I had to send several emails and leave several voicemails to get a response. Very frustrating!
Very disappointed with the service. After much planning, to prepare our son for college, we picked a provider who could counsel as well as write prescriptions, so that our son could have someone to reach out to while he went off to college. After seeing this person 2 times, they left the practice, and he referred us to another provider there. After talking to this person 1 time, he told us, he didn't counsel, so we would have to see someone else for that. My son has been bounced around so many times trying to find someone he could count out on, that the disappointment is real . Then when trying to refill a prescription, we get a notice that we need to pay $25 for a Prescription authorization, and if it's bounces, another $25?? I have never heard of a doctor charging us for Prescription authorizations, and trust me, this is something needed on occasion when dealing with prescribing mediation. It's the nature of Healthcare. Our pharmacist and Insurance company were shocked that they would try to charge us. And our last NP from another practice did it all the time, more than 2 times, with no question. Let me be clear. The doctors and NPs at this practice are really nice, and helpful. But the Office, SohoMD is not. And the APP the use, SPUCE, is very unhelpful and makes you feel like your talking to a robot.
They make this process so much easier
I was a paying patient there for 2 years. It used to be a nice place. Howhever they recently made some changes and accepted new policies. This is what recently happened: 1. I used to be able to speak to a real.person and my NP over the phone if rarely I would have questions. Now you can only use SPRUCE. It is an app, that basically tells you that you need to book next available appointment online. In my case it took me1.5 weeks to speak to my NP 2. Was just refused get the emergency medication I need and was occasionally prescribed before. Explanation was, that their policy changed and they are not going to prescribe it and look for alternatives. The only good reason to stop medication is that I dont need it anymore. Howhever unfortunately that is not the case, and that is not the reason that my NP gave me. 3. Billing is terrible. They used wrong codes, overcharged me for appointments. When I asked for an explanation was told that I have to ask my insurance they dont know. They deposited my checkout refused to acknowledge, had to fight with them
My psychiatrist was friendly and understood me very well. It's right near the Q canal Street stop. The women at the desk are really nice too.
the best in the business, Dr. Jospitre has never let me down and always helps me to grow
Horrible administratively. It's near-impossible to get in touch with the practice directly and billing is an absolute nightmare. There's no transparency at all.
Highly professional and welcoming
Unprofessional and uncommunicative.
I've always had trouble finding time for therapy, but this place is really accommodating and they provide online sessions for anyone who cant make it in. This is such a good option for busy people!
Absolute worst costumer service, impossible to get in contact with someone from office.
At first I liked the practice and felt like the practitioner I was seeing was sharp, professional, and quick to understand my needs. Now I realize they were just quick, or rather, in a rush. Stepping back I realize now that it was like being on a conveyor belt, assessed on the go by someone who did a good job of seeming like they cared, until suddenly you realize that there is absolutely no depth or compassion to the actual practice of psychiatry. After seeing someone several times I was suddenly informed at the beginning of an appointment that I was being “referred out”, meaning I was no longer their patient. This counted as an appointment, so I had to pay for someone to hurriedly tell me that they would no longer see me, try to come up with some vague justifications, but it was clear that their mind was made up from the moment we started speaking. To add insult to injury, on top of this very abrupt end to my treatment, when I asked them to call in one last refill of my medication (which they prescribed), they said they wanted to lower the dose. I found that to be highly unprofessional. You don’t mess with changing dosages if you’ve just told your patient to seek help elsewhere. Why make changes for someone who will have to go back to square one looking for a new doctor anyway? Why not leave the decision making to the next practitioner? I’m disappointed and find the lack of compassion to be somewhat astonishing.
The therapist I saw was good but the office staff doesn't answer calls, emails, or return messages. You're better off somewhere else.
No concern for patient privacy. There is no direct access between a patient and a provider as dictated by office policy. It would seem intuitive for a patient to be able to contact a psychiatrist without scheduling an appointment. They would like to be thr go between for any confidential patient information if you have something to say to your provider in between appointments. The alternative that they provided is to all 911. They claim that the providers are too busy to take on any calls or emails outside of a scheduled appointment. If they are too busy to do so, it sounds like the office is overloading the providers with patients.
In person desk staff are really wonderful - polite, efficient, helpful The providers are great - attentive and knowledgeable and open in discussion. They offer telemedicine and it's actually very good quality I get psych and therapy w/SohoMD, and I've impressed with the clinical providers so far. Tenisha and Shanna are incredible. It took me a while to find folks like them. I've had terrible experiences with front desk staff over the phone trying to resolve something - rude, giving wrong info, messing up with scheduling. The billing dept. was good with helping me resolve outstanding co-pays, and getting me connected to the front desk staff. But, that hasn't happened in a few months, and when I brought it to their attention folks were apologetic and accommodating.
Similarly to Holli (a few reviews down), I was handled coldly and dismissively. It is truly unclear if this doctor is a therapist or psychiatrist, though there are "therapist services offered" at the office, without any ability to schedule with one. Instead, you spend about 30 minutes answering invasive, triggering questions by a glazed-over, uninterested doctor, who mumbles and offers no interest to upsetting statements about trauma. I already answered most online, hoping the appointment would be more in-depth and relative. After being prodded by these questions questioning just about everything that causes me physical and mental ailments, I asked if there was someone I could speak with at the office like a therapist, to which he replies "You need to do what we're doing first. Take this Medical Food Supplement. Come back in 2 weeks. You'll be ready for therapy in six- eight weeks. You can do therapy for your entire life and not receive care because you can't absorb Vitamins effectively". Billed me 50 bucks for a bottle of Medical Food Supplements...? Clearly not a place for me since I think talking and listening also promotes good health.
Professional and clean environment.
Very friendly personnel
Very nice office and friendly staff
