REVIEWS OF Chestnut Hill Counseling Associates IN New Hampshire

You can't speak to a person about billing. They only have an answering machine that they obviously don't check because they never call you back. They are billing me for a copay that I already paid, and they owe me a copay that I paid when I shouldn't have.

Molly Cleveland

If I could give a zero I would. I don't know that I've ever seen an office so mismanaged. Even my insurance company hates working with them. I couldn't wait to drop them as a care provider. Some of the grumpiest and incompetent people I've ever met.

Matt Officer

Absolutely pathetic, terrible office staff, lost paperwork never tried to contact me back.

Lisa Payeur

Since my first review, I have read others that refer to a therapist who fell asleep during sessions. This is something that I thought was happening briefly as well during some of my sessions. A friend said maybe the therapist was just thinking about what I had said, but I was never totally convinced. Now after reading the other reviews, I think it is true that I experienced the same thing: a therapist who was falling asleep during some sessions! My first review never posted. I was happy with my therapist until there was an insurance issue and she went missing ! They are billing me a large amount of money for which they just need to appeal to the insurance company. Office staff are rude, do not return calls, will not let me speak to billing. Well, they will not get their money with these tactics! I would not recommend this practice to anyone.

What started off as an okay experience has turned into a nightmare. I first started going to Chestnut Hill in January to see Dr. Naimark. Each appointment I would see him for less than five minutes before he told me that was all and I could go schedule my next appointment two weeks out. Most of the time the receptionist would rudely tell me there was no openings and I would have to push out the date further. In March I had to cancel an appointment but when I called the day before (during business hours) I couldn't get through to anyone. I continued calling until 11 at night trying to at least get an answering machine but to no avail. I started calling again at 7am but did not get through to the receptionist until 845, the time of my appointment. She said I would be charged $95 for late cancellation so I explained to her that I had been calling since the night before and she assured me I would not be charged. Two weeks went by before I was able to reschedule (I am a full time student with limited transportation) and I was running low on my daily medication. When I called the office the receptionist was extremely rude saying I was long overdue for an appointment but the earliest she could get me in was May 17. This was in April. I told her thag was fine but I needed a prescription refill. Dr. Naimark refused to refill my DAILY prescription until I could come in to the office. A few days later I got a call from them saying they had a last minute opening the next morning and they were booking me. I told them I could not make it and the receptionist got very frustrated with me and said I needed to come in so I could get my refill. I repeated that I could not make it and apparently Dr. Naimark agreed to give me a 7 day refill with my appointment still weeks away. A week before my appointment, I have been off my medication for 3 or 4 weeks, and I receive a bill in the mail for $200. $95 for two late cancellations and $10 for a refill. I am absolutely appalled at the service I have been given and am not returning to this office ever again. Please do not waste your time on such rude and unprofessional people with something as important as your mental health.

The counselors and psychiatrists are great. The office staff is completely rude. Billing is a complete joke. The office manager is abrubt and not willing to train staff properly. They don't take Medicare or medicade. That's horrible! I also feel it's very judgmental. They don't care about these reviews. They are lazy.

Jamie Friars

Unlike several of the other reviews I have never had an issue with the front office staff here. Charles Farrell is amazing and I wouldn't consider going to another counselor.

Tricia Howard

I’m not sure why the rating is so low, personally I’ve had good experiences with my psychiatrist and Therapist. I’ve improved greatly from West I was 9 months ago and the receptionists have always been nice to me and remember who I am when I go in.

Patrick Fleming

Unbelievable how they treat people here. The final straw was calling them several times and leaving numerous messages trying to get a hold of someone at the office with them never calling me back. I've found that the only way to talk to someone is to physically drive there and see them in person. Aside from their office staff being consistently impersonal and rude, I've also had bad interactions with both their counselors and psychiatrists. The counselor after 2 sessions literally said to me "well, I can't help you but if want to just come in and talk about your week then you can." Needless to say I didn't return. Visiting psychiatrist, when seeking help I was just asked what I wanted to be prescribed. Not being a doctor, I wasn't expecting to be asked for advice. Throughout the sessions I felt like I was an inconvenience and that he was rushing to get me out the door despite sessions typically starting late and lasting roughly 5 minutes. When seeking help I was just asked what I wanted to be prescribed. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

I love it here, they have always been kind and fair with everything. They work with my insurance, the front desk is so attentive and the staff is very professional. They have always answered my calls or called me back in a timely manner and I wish the reviews here properly reflected how good they are.

Ainsley-Aude Croteau

I disagree with the negative reviews. Staff here is very nice and attentive. The counselors know what they're doing and will refer you to others if you don't think you make a good fit with them.

My past experience would be the same as the others: good doc, really poor office. I've been with that practice for a few years and that has been my experience too. Simple questions were responded with disgusted looks. However, the last two days has been just the opposite. The office staff has all been changed with new people. I have found them to be pleasant and helpful. They even smiled at me!! One thing they have that I still think is BS: If you ask for a med refill while NOT at a scheduled appointment, (ie; from home) there is a $10 charge and they still will not call a prescription in. I work with 8 different hospitals and doctors at this time and nobody else does that. So big improvement IMHO.

It's all about the bottom line there. The senior psychiatrists drive around in S-class mercedes while having no problem making someone who is going through a deep depression see their first psychiatrist for $300+ dollars for the first time. DON'T GO.

Matthew Ince .

After finding out Dr. Nowak was investigated and disciplined by the NH Board of Medicine, I found the legal document online. I can only wonder why Chestnut Hill hired him.

After many many attempts to try to receive services I finally gave up after not once getting a phone call back. Very unprofessional

Sadly I have to give a low review because of the office staff as well. I adored my therapist here, but the office staff has always been rude, standoffish, and difficult to get ahold of for anything. As a facility that deals with those that are struggling with mental health, their lack of sensitivity is especially offputting to the point where I didn't want to come anymore. They will ignore you while you're standing at the window instead of acknowledging that you're even there and a few times I could have only described their behavior as mean. I've been trying to get ahold of them for severql few weeks about the bills I keep receiving- I've made a few payments on them but the total never seems to go down but no one will return my call to discuss it. You can never get a real person on the line. I would just pay them all off and be done with it to avoid collections but I can't even do that. Update: I was able to finally call the front dest and get a human who told me they dont have anyone for billing which is why no one is getting their calls returned. If you leave a message for billing as directed to do your call will never be returned.

Couldn't even get to my psychiatrist appointment due to an overcrowded waiting room. Not good for someone with an extreme fear of people. Another doctor was extremely rude in the middle of an anxiety attack in the waiting room. I owe them too much money for missed appointments due to the aforementioned overcrowding of the waiting room. Not a good thing when my condition is preventing me from getting any kind of treatment. I really feel like just giving up.

I have been a client with CHCA for nearly 2 years. My experience has been quite positive. Good LSW and Psychiatrist. Office staff does their best be mindful some days are better than others - even for us.. I have previously worked in a busy medical providers office - a physical and mental challenge . I understand the daily chaos in this field as part of a normal workday. . I have been in and out of therapy for many years. Life and circumstance change especially in todays work environment. Sadly and unfortunate it does impact and us We can be impatient when in need.. I have found that counseling and Psychology is only part of our healing process. The hardest work we will ever do is within us. Negative comments are a personal perspective. Not helpful to seeing the beauty around and within ourselves. Behavioral Health provides the tools to process experiences, survive the traumas, doubts of self worth and whatever brings us to this place called personal hell. Change is a critical step to our self healing. Each and every time we face these stressors it is a stepping stone to reach our inner peace which enables us to learn how to accept and change what we can, accepting there may not be resolutions everything. You and I will better understand it is not our fault - self forgiveness will be the most important of all lessons we can learn so we can move on. Easily said than done. It's within our own power that we choose our future directions in life. In the end it IS an accomplishment to be content with. Most of all when we have the courage to admit when we are weak and work towards self empowerment and face our futures with courage it brings us strength. Imagine a life without conscience or forgiveness it's the maze we never get through or the bridge we never cross. . Best of success to every commitment we choose for positive life ahead of us....... STAY STRONG

Not only are you charged 80-90 dollars for a "late cancellation" fee which is outrageous, but the reason I cancelled was because my therapist FELL ASLEEP IN MY SESSION. My new doctor has told me that she has patients who through the same office had the same doctor fall asleep in their appointments as well. If you can't stay awake it's time to retire. I also have no idea when these people are in the office. I have been trying to contact them all week and receive no call backs after leaving many messages. If you're looking for a therapist, LOOK ELSEWHERE.

My provider depended on the medications samples left by big pharma to determine my medication. I began on the regime subscribed for Bipolar disorder and became, unknowingly, sicker and sicker until I suffered from delusions and psychosis. My current psychiatrist helped me get off all of my meds and I returned to a full functioning woman with hope for the future. I blame my doctor who was more interested in promoting drugs and not taking the time to see the whole person.

Matticus Brown

I found Dr. Schmidt to be a poor listener and indifferent overall to my needs as a patient. When I had an emergency about one of my meds I called the office after hours and the girl on the answering service didnt know her job. After talking to the on call doctor, who had my issue all wrong because the answering service girl didnt listen, he hung up on me after he thought I was done. I feltlike they didnt care. When I called the office the next business day I had to leave a message after they never picked up the phone I called 6 times. the office never called me back. they had over 7 hours to hear my message and return my call.

Jessica Ann

Where do I begin? The receptionist is rude, and doesn't handle paperwork well at all. My new patient paperwork went missing twice, and they are billing me for an appointment that I already paid for. The psychiatrist was also quite rude and cold. No eye contact, belittled me, mocked me, told me I was faking my illness because at the time he saw me I happened to be in a manic upswing from my bipolar. Wouldn't perscribe me the medications that I was already on and had been recommended for by the hospital, and told me that I had to put myself back on a waiting list to see another psychiatrist at SMHC that I was already on FOR OVER A YEAR AND A HALF. I now have crazy amounts of hospital bills since I have been in and out of the BHU all this time since nobody had been able to prescribe me anything for this lovely year and a half. I am an adult, and was treated like a child that nobody wanted around while I was there. Was not treated with respect or dignity, and overall I got the impression that they just didn't care. Not impressed.

The main receptionist was not helpful to me and left me back at square one. I have a health benefit plan through my service with AmeriCorps, which will cover services with any provider. At my request, the office was not willing to call the health benefit plan to understand it. They assumed it is regular insurance that they do not accept, when I was trying to tell them it is not insurance, but a health benefit plan. I am completely displeased with the service and low effort to learn something knew.

Alyvia Anctil

I don't go here but my sister does and one day I went with her. The receptionists did not acknowledge us and we waited over 20 minutes so she could meet with her counselor which only lasted 15 minutes. Horrible.

Timothy Parks

I should have paid attention to the reviews. On my first visit, I saw the Dr and he didn't listen to why I was there. After less than 15 minutes of point blank yes or no questions, he wrote a prescription for a medication which I took 1 pill and threw away. He clearly had no interest in helping me. Also, I received a bill for my copay, which I had already paid at the office. I have tried calling and getting it taken care of but like the reviews they are horrible at communication. The front desk girl was actually very nice and sweet but even that doesn't make up for the horrible overall practice they have.

Judi Chesley

While my counselor is superb, the front end staff are amazingly bad. Rude, abrupt, won't acknowledge someone standing in front of the closed glass while on a call (you can nod or smile, it's OK, no one will get mad at you). Failure to return phone calls - you name it, if it's customer service related, they're bad at it. Just one anecdote - my pharmacy called in to renew a prescription, and got back to me that after five days and three requests, there had been no response. I call in to find out what's up, and no one will return my calls either. I finally had to storm down there, empty bottle in hand, to get a refill on my bipolar meds. The doctors seem a bit overworked but do a good job, but for the love of pete, someone hire staff that can do the basic jobs required in a medical practice. You are working with people who are taking needed medications. Treating them as an aside to your real job is indefensible.

Brendan Obrien

I am now into day 6 without an antidepressant due to rude uncaring staff. Dr Kates is great. His staff, not so much.

Joshelyn Gouin

Colin Principe

Staff rude and almost impossible to speak to via phone. They hide behind their phone tree and the only way you can get someone on the line is to use the emergency line. You would think staff at a counseling service would be more polite and friendly.

Dylan Thibodeau

Literally all they care about is money

just horrible all around
