REVIEWS OF Missouri Psychiatric Center IN Missouri

Total Wizard .

Doctors wouldn't see patients on weekends, my food orders/preferences were repeatedly mixed and messed up, nurses put me in a solitary room because I was crabwalking. This is not a place to go for treatment, it is jail for people who are dangerous, to themselves or others. They do not care if you are mentally ill and will do nothing to treat it. I was given hydroxyzine (Vistaril) without a prescription because I asked for it, despite the fact that there could have been any number of contraindications that the nurses didn't know about. Avoid this place at all costs, find treatment elsewhere for your own sake.

Sad , so sad , there are no other words . I personally haven’t been . But for my AS (addict son). It’s a joke these people run them they like cattle uae IV medicine that way the are reimbursed through the state , I was told that was specifically by one of their finance counselors obtaining discount billing for the patient. Sign here is the way were reimbursed if there are IV drugs use on your treatment. So they pumped him full of advant & Holdal what ever else they possibly can. Oh sure they’re going to be great and about five days after all that medication why Haldol would make anyone cooperative. Then you get them home, and that’s for the brunt of it all takes place. So it’s a vicious circle and cycle they fight with us we fight with them we can’t take it anymore they leave looking for reason to go out . Oh and then they’re back ring in the doorbell and a week if not sooner with their psychotic paranoid schizophrenic episodes ;begging us and ask for help. What do we do for parents we take him back to the only place there is in this community. Sad sad . The psychiatrist interview them and their team, with their questions of everything from do you know your name do you know where you are what town, do you know what year it is, all the standards are they all now And if you’ve been there a dozen times while you can just “it have it memorized have your spill already for them when they come a round. Oh and the last question do you feel like harming yourself? And the poor things answer of course not. What else are they going to say they want out. And then just like that they rushed him out no sooner then I can make a bank deposit and rush out there they’re heading out the door. Sadder even more “I know your clothes got Soiled from the other hospital to this one therefore we they were thrown out” here we’ll give you a hospital gowns to wear home. Isn’t that wonderful... born our inocent children , end up like this. Yes we fight like hell Baffled!! This MUPC are not helping us, I’ll never understand. They took an oath and to save life’s !! I Feel like they are selling us out for the paying clients.becasue most of ya don’t the coverage from insurance companies for this type of treatment. Parents if you do have insurance RUN with your adult confused child . To another place , please !!! God Bless !!!!!!

I was admitted to this place back in Feburary because i was severely suicidal and desperate for help. The place didnt do anything but give me never ending, morbid and horrific night terrors. Never in a million years would i recommend this place.

This facility puts prisoners with regular people, men with women, and practices 1950s style cruelty. By the time our family member was finally liberated from this place, everyone needed trauma counseling. The best part is that she didn’t even need to be there. A coworker used “I saw her trying to kill herself” as a way to get revenge and it took 4 days for us to get her out. They don’t respect autonomy. If you’re not crazy when you go in they will make damn sure you are when you leave. She’s never been the same and is having to go on disability now because of PTSD from her treatment there including being held down for blood draws. Anyone who says this is a nice place either didn’t actually stay behind the locked doors or has Stockholm syndrome.

My son was hospitalized for four weeks in 2018. He was shown very little compassion and was released early after the first week, still extremely sick, only to be readmitted three weeks later much worse. The scrubs he had to wear were mismatched, ill fitting and looked like old discarded ones from another unit. Never once did any of his four different physicians meet with or speak to me or my husband although we visited and called daily. I wonder if patients on oncology, pediatrics or ANY other floor receive this level of care and concern.

1950s style cruelty with dirty toy furniture, crappy staff, and no help. Held me down and took my blood against my will. Was in there for depression. Thinking about suing them because my lawyer friend said that they can’t do that without police order or probable cause.

I was suicidal and was afraid of myself, I didnt want to die but yet I knew I would if I had the chance. I went in not wanting to die, I left wishing I had. The only good I got out of this prison was a huge terrifying experience I now use for art and stories regarding mistreatment. I will summarize my experience in a nutshell: Went in willingly, was unwillingly separated from my parents and all of my things and clothes were confiscated, I was put in orange scrubs (the same they use for inmate patients) so from then on every nurse ignored me like the plague and were extra forceful when taking blood and talking to me (I never bruise when blood is drawn, but this time my whole arm bruised up and lasted a week). I was placed in a storage-like room due to no space for patients left, I was refused food and water, I was told I could see my parents before I was taken to my room. A police officer escorted me up and told me I wont see my family, I went down a thin hallway with broken cots, broken equipment, and very few working lights until the elevator up. 3 ID badge locked doors later I was in the ward. Dinner was over (I hadn't eaten all day) all they had leftover was four pieces of cold shrimp. I sat with a girl who used deodorant on magazines to create "paint" to draw with since we were not allowed any pencils or pens. Ten minutes later I am "locked" in a bedroom (the door has to be open but you are not allowed to leave the room) and there is a stadium spotlight blaring onto my bed so it was impossible to sleep on the bed and pillows that were covered in plastic. My experience gets much much worse from there but my review is already too long. Unless you want serious life trauma, never go here. I wish there was a way I could sue this place for mistreatment.

Seriously the WORST “healthcare” experience possible. My dog is treated better at the vet than I was here. I admit that I am depressed. I was feeling suicidal. I had a ton of reasons. But I never felt shame until this place. Being told things by staff such as “this is a place for useless crybabies”. I couldn’t believe it. And the food is horrible, they mess up your order and blame you (you know, because you’re a crazy), do unnecessary lab work, you name it. This place needs to be monitored or shut down. It’s sick what they do to people. And my roommate was a prisoner who’d beat up people before going to prison. Very comforting. It just shows how little they value the safety of their “patients”. I agree with the prison for ill people and 1950s comment below. It’s shameful how badly they treat people.

Was taken by police for acute psychotic episode. Can confirm 1950s style cruelty. I'm transgender and wasn't given my hormones or my anti-depressants I've been on for years. Was pushed towards strong anti-psychotics, that also happen to be advertised on TV. Avoid at all costs.

My friend was in here and it was absolutely terrible for her.

Worst place ever!!! My child got taken here 3 times and came back worse each time. I only took him there once the cops took him there twice. They game him the same meds and when he came back they didn't change the meds just increase the dose. Obviously they should have changed the meds. I tried to get my child transferred somewhere else and they refused to work with me. Then when I told them I didn't want my child medicated they try to tell me that they had the right to give him meds without my permission (which is against the law). They also have the children and teenagers together. NEVER again will I let my child end up there.

I hated it here, I felt so trapped. It was the worst experience in my life. The visiting hours are limited and the staff isn't very nice. I still get flashbacks and it keeps me up all night. If something happens, please avoid at all costs. Never, ever take yourself or your child here. Please.

Wish I could give 0 stars. My son has been there 3 times and the last 2 times he was worse upon discharge than he ever was. This last time he was there he was discharged on Thursday and by Sunday he tried to commit suicide. Please if you live your kids don't send them there.

You don't have to be crazy to stay here... but it sure helps! ;) All kidding aside, I spent a week here, and I was very impressed with the staff, and their ability to frequently handle situations that... you really can't imagine, if you've not been in this type of facility. Then they can turn around and be caring and kind to everyone... kind of incredible. This place has to manage pretty much everyone that's deemed a danger to themselves, or acutely out-of-control, or require close supervision and control for whatever reason. Some patients are sad and timid, while others can be rather intimidating. But I always felt very safe. You must accept that this is not intended to be a vacation. It's generally boring, sometimes interesting, and, occasionally, very exciting. It's purpose is to stabilize and control. Being bored often leads one to introspection on what exactly landed them in the psych ward. The food is awesome, for real, and I miss the staff, and many of the patients I met. Because of their help, I don't think I'll ever end up there again.
