I had a great experience here. The nurses and staff were very prompt and accommodating. When i first got There, i was nervous and afraid. My nurse got me a snack and comforted me. Looking back, I’m glad i was admitted to this unit.

Very misleading website and information given to me several times when calling the Behavioral Health phone number. THEY DO NOT DO ALCOHOL DETOX! If you read the website or talk to someone from the facility, the impression is they do. I told several people we needed dual diagnosis with alcohol abuse being a factor. NOT ONE TIME did someone mention "We dont do detox." and the website states "We offer both outpatient and hospital care services that include professional counseling and medication therapy as needed. For individuals who suffer with both a psychiatric illness and chemical dependency, we offer specialized dual-diagnosis treatment. " That is false advertising! They DO NOT DO DETOX. You need to remove this information and reword it so people do not think you detox. and train your staff to maybe MENTION THAT!

Dr. Garcia discriminates and is biased-- So don't take your family here. Plus, the nurses are rude and don't value family. We will never come back again. Thanks, but no thanks!

They lied to us and said my son would get immediate treatment for suicidal thoughts. We all agreed he needed help ASAP. He was admitted late on a Friday, saw a doctor for less an hour, given 2 pills and left in the "overflow" ward. This is a place with a constant running tv and 2 jigsaw puzzles. No therapist or doctors visited him on Sat or Sun. To leave a person in severe mental anguish with no treatment is cruel, but apparently profitable.

Best mental health inpatient ive ever been to, but do not go if you do not have insurance. Doctor zhang (or however it is spelled) is the only doctor that doesnt take insurance and is constantly doing malpractice. Because of him i could have died if i did not see the fault in the medications he perscribed to me, and he sent me home even when the night before i said i would kill myself given the chance. He does not care about people, but most of the staff there do.

The nurses here were very unhelpful for me. The doctor did not want to help me or referre me to someone who could. I left messages, no one ever called back. Very bad experience to someone who was unfimiliar to the st louis area!!

As another reviewer said also - Dr Zhang almost killed me as well! He took me cold turkey off a high dose of one medication and overdose me on another. I had to have a family member sneak pills in to me so I could take doses of the one I was taken off cold turkey so I wouldn't go into seizures. The staff is indifferent at best and downright hostile at worst. Group therapy is almost nonexistent and most time is spent coloring or watching TV. Any display of depression is met with the staff ordering you to go to your room or they will inject you with medication.

My very recent experience at Mercy on South New Ballas was extraordinary. I checked myself in at the urging of BHR caseworkers, and it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have severe depression and anxiety and was suicidal and very, very desperate. To a person, everyone was compassionate, understanding and more than patient. I was in the overflow unit and under Dr.Zhang's care. He never made me feel rushed or insignificant. Every day, his concern felt very comforting and most sincere. My social worker, Susan, is one of the loveliest people I have ever met. The group sessions were multiple times daily, and very beneficial and eye-opening in many instances for me. The nurses and techs were professional, kind, very caring and engaging.I never once felt forced to react in any way, only guided. I'm sorry for those of you who seem to have had a negative experience. Mental health and emotional issues are so very serious, and I felt that everyone at Mercy was most respectful of this fact and very dedicated to those of us entrusted to their care. But we, as patients, have to take interest in our path to wellness, too. Sometimes it's easy to become overwhelmed with self pity or defensiveness, and we just want someone to fix us without doing the work we need to do along with professional care. I feel I have been given not only excellent care, but some new skills to cope with my disease, and the assurance that I am not, nor will I ever be, alone and adrift with no place to turn. I recommend Mercy to anyone needing psychiatric care.

I checked in there as a patient because I was suicidal. The psychiatrist, Zhang, released me because he said I was making things up just looking for attention. He asked me the same question 5 times in a 10 minute period. I honestly would not recommend anyone checking in or allowing friends or family to check in. The staff was very rude & inconsiderate
