I have been going here for a while and I like the venue and the people I worked with. Recently however, I discovered an accumulation of $900 in bills that were not being sent to my current address, and instead my mom's, that I thought would have been updated with all the paper work I filled out. I also do not understand why no one decided to check up on me to inquire the unpaid bills sitting getting stale since February that I had no clue even existed. It would make sense for someone to be keeping an eye out on billing discrepancies like this. Really don't understand how this kind of mistake was made. Am I responsible for my bills? Yes of course, but they are also responsible for sending things to the right places. Had the bills been sent to my location, I would have been able to properly reevaluate my financial ability to sustain my mental health. Instead, no one said anything, and the books have piled up and I owe them now before the first. They waived the late fee, which was nice, but the fact this this much in bills was not brought to my attention nor sent to my correct address has left me angry, frustrated, and anxious, and now I am considering never going again, which is the exact opposite of what a establishment of mental health should be helping to remove. In this case, it has increased my stress and surrounding negative feelings. In terms of the reviews below criticising the abilities of the therapists, I would definitely take that with a grain of salt. Anyone who takes their mental health seriously should know that some therapists may not work for you. Especially when evaluating their personality...

Dr. Z is the best! The staff is very helpful, I have recommended this place (and Dr. Z) to a few friends and they have found it great too! Dr. Z is the first doc I've seen who actually understood my issues and worked with me to understand them better.

Embarking on a PhD is difficult, emotional, and anxiety-inducing for the most brilliant and organized student. After struggling with a significant learning disability throughout my first year, a trusted friend recommended Choices Psychotherapy. Over a year later, I can confidently say that Dr. Belt has not only allowed me to continue pursuing my career, but given me the fortitude and self-discipline to be able to make positive changes across all areas of my life.

Went to Choices in Golden Valley for a couple years. Always a difficult subject matter to review, as everyone has their own experiences, but mine was largely negative. Both the therapist and psychiatrist I saw did not seem to have strong active listening skills, and were more concerned with their own agenda of either medicating or meeting specific in session goals. I also felt patronized on several accounts and not seen as an equal intelligent human being. I found the office to be quite disorganized and had several poor experiences with scheduling. If you are sick of the pharmaceutical industrial complex I would recommend looking at sites such as MAD in America and Dr. Kelly Brogen, who is pioneering the way to treat people with unique mental patterns without medication. Stay alert and aware.

As someone who has struggled with depression and anxiety for many years, I have experienced tons of different options for care in the Twin Cities. Choices, by far, has been the best quality treatment around. I have been through their Acceptance and Commitment Therapy program, their DBT program, and individual therapy. All of them were fantastic. Don't get sucked into a cycle of bad therapy, experimenting with different places like I had to do for many years. Just go straight to the best- Choices.

I was a patient of Dr. Belt, one of the coldest physicians I have ever had the displeasure of working with. We agreed that a medication was working for me and she decided out of the blue to discontinue treatment. Instead, she suggested trying medications I didn't have good results with previously. This resulted in a myriad of adverse side effects, frustrating and frequent visits to the pharmacy, and a great deal of worsened anxiety. I was also left with a cabinet full of ineffective medication I later had to return to the pharmacy to destroy. She's monotonous and seemingly unfazed by human emotion. Luckily I've found a more empathetic medical professional. I will say Choices Psychotherapy does have a fantastic waiting room.

Not super engaged in my son's treatment. Height, weight, refill script. $300 for 10-15 minutes. What, you have a question about the bill? You'll have to talk to Dr. B about that. What, you have an urgent need to re-evaluate meds? We can see you in 3 weeks. Dr B will ignore this and say we don't understand. Well, maybe she doesn't understand.

I would not recommend working with Ben Snyder. My experience with him was as part of a group of therapists that led an 8 week intensive outpatient program. In order to help out a person emotionally, a therapist has to be your friend, and Ben did not come across as a person I felt like wanted to be your friend. He seemed insincere when he acted like he cared about people's problems. I got to know most of the other people in the program, and literally everyone agreed that they thought the guy was a jerk and really just not a likable person. Hopefully you will believe me and not think this is a biased report, because I really don't believe he has the right attitude to be in this profession. All of the other therapists I worked with were at least ok.

Began seeing a psychiatrist I felt was very knowledgeable and was very comfortable with in February 2018. After a few months of being a patient, I called to leave a message that I had lost one of my medications, made it very clear I was NOT seeking an early refill, just wanted the doctor informed that I would be off that medication until it was time for the next refill, as I wanted to make sure there were no adverse effects to suddenly stopping the medication. A receptionist called me back right away after that phone call and said the doctor refilled the medication and I could come get the prescription. I told her that was very nice of him, I hadn't expected that, but to tell him thank you. Picked up script, filled it, no problem... until my next visit. He accused me of abusing my medication, said he was taking me off it could turkey and would be refusing to prescribe it for me in the future. This was a med that worked very well for me that I had been on for over 3 years with a different doctor and NO previous issues. I then decided to go back to my previous psychiatrist and stopped receiving care at Choices in May 2018. During this time, I moved, half my mail was going to my ex's and half was being forwarded...I received NO phone calls about a balance due or any bills until this past week (January 2019!), when I also received a NOTICE OF HEARING TO APPEAR IN COURT for unpaid bills!!! Called immediately and paid in full, the billing person was very nice and apologetic, but I would never go back there or recommend it to any family or friends. Horrible experience.

Picking a therapist based on a google review isn’t really the best way to find one. I like my therapist and my psychiatrist. The two leaders who run my DBT group do a good job. I personally don’t like the waiting area, because it has sliding plexiglass windows and give it a institutional feeling.
