REVIEWS OF Forest View Hospital IN Michigan

The medications are not computerized and the staff made 13 medication errors my first visit and 9 errors with my medications the second visit. There were no wristbands for quite a few patients, and the ones that they did have were hand written by a magic marker. There was more than one person with my first name, and they tried to give me her medications instead of mine. I had a urinalysis tract infection and was on two antibiotics for the infection and kept asking why when one of hem was Cipro. No one could tell me why so I ended up taking two antibiotics for one infection. They gave me totally wrong medications, double the dose of my blood pressure medication, and many, many other errors over the course of two stays. I can’t imagine sending an adolescent there because they don’t look at each medication to see if it’s he right one or one they are Ben supposed to be taking! This hospital is extremely dangerous just because of the medication issues. I was sent by my therapist to go in the trauma program. The actual program wasn't as advertised, so dont believe the brochure. I was supposed to get 3 hour long therapy visits a week and received two over the course of almost a month between the two visits. The actual trauma program during the day was good and the teacher was excellent. But dont expect help after class is over, and dont decompensate after class. The staff won't help you unless you happen to find the one person in the place who actually cares. Ugh. The psychiatrists are a total joke. They see you for an average of two or three minutes, except for Dr Bronson, who was great. Dr Saifallahi is a menace to society and makes multiple errors charting his medications according to one staff member. He also poached inpatient clients to his outpatient practice down the street according to one staff member, and was considered a “money maker” because he’s an employee of the company that owns the hospital and yet poached inpatient clients to his outpatient practice despite not being a board certified psychiatrist. You can look on the State of Michigan website and check it out for yourself. (LARA). He lied to the parents of my 19 year old roommate as did the staff. I talked to the mom and told her the truth. He billed me for a day that he didn’t even see me, and when I challenged the bill, it took 10 months for the staff to fix it. I know he didn’t see me that day because I refused to keep seeing him when inpatient because of his incompetence. They forgot to take my shoelaces (deadly in a mental hospital) and didn't notice for 9 days. I was testing them to see how long it would take, and made sure no one had access to my shoes so no one would hurt themselves. They also didn't act for a day and a half when I told them a patient was hoarding his medication and could overdose. This can be deadly but no one seemed to care. One patient passed out and hit his head after being fine moments before. He was disoriented and bleeding from the head after this happened and very scared and out of sorts. He didn’t remember after he hit his head on the floor where he was at! I ended up helping him because the staff just left him sitting in a wheelchair after he seemed to have suffered a concussion and he was trying to get up and walk. The staff ignored this, so I kept him sitting down so he wouldn’t hurt himself again. I stood by him until the ambulance showed up. The staff is undertrained and overworked, with staff shortages causing employees to work double shifts. This makes for a cranky and mean staff. Employees stated the staff is underpaid, so qualified people keep leaving and new staff constantly need to be trained. The staff members were rude and even abusive at times to me, and I was traumatized when I got home. Staff told me that complaints that go into their “complaint box” go up the chain of command at the hospital, which is wrong. They are supposed to go to the state of Michigan and not be sorted through by administrators! What a joke...

My wife went here after being totally being messed up at Pine Rest. They listened to my wife and got her on the proper medication. One that helped her.

Great staff! I was welcomed at the door and had all my questions answered.

amazing doctor who got my meds straightened out but that was the only good thing about this place. the nurses and mental health workers were rude and gave the impression that they know nothing about mental health. i had to file a patients rights violation TWICE. this place is infested with ants as well. do not go here!

John Doe

The records keeping procedure could use a refurbish. I hear that the treatment of specific conditions are good, but with the poor management of the records I don't see how this is possible. Very displeased with the treatment. From the eyes of a visitor.

I was just discharged from the adolescent unit 2 days ago, and the hospital was always clean and the staff was great alicias totally terrifying but they all care the food was good the gym smells like sweaty socks but its all good. I was there for 25 days and never had a problem.

coytle game

I cant begin to describe how cruel the staff can be to the patients. This place needs an overhaul

Dennis Snyder

Once again this month they havent sent my wife's medication like they are supposed to and when she called this morning they told her she had to call a week in advance and she has been trying to call the med clinic since 3/21 and has left multiple messages and no one will call her back! She talked to a lady named Carlie this morning who hung up on her twice. This place is a joke and I will be setting up a meeting to get this resolved!

Nathan Brown

I was admitted more than a dozen times at many different hospitals over the coarse of 10 years before finding a treatment that worked and finding recovery. I stayed at this hospital only once. It was very abusive, staff misreported and straight up lied about you on forms and recipient rights at this hospital was a joke when I tried to file a complaint. This is the only hospital that traumatized me rather than helped me.

Complete trash. The workers were absolute jerks and cussed out the kids a lot. No care or respect. I don't even know what they are trying to accomplish, I can promise anything you have heard good about this place are lies. Rude, mean, arrogant and low quality. No time was spent on therapy, it was only pills and ways to waste time. 0/10

If you're wanting to go get ACTUAL help, go to Pine Rest. This place basically abuses their patients. They don't care what you do. Everyone is packed in to smaller areas than they have room for. Staff is very rude as well.

it was great in the adolescent unit. my only complaints are that dr. van harren was unprofessional and gave one of the other patients anxiety attacks, and they are absolutely not respectful of trans patients. you would be better off not telling them, trust me. but seriously, as much as that stuff sucked, it was an amazing experience, and i am glad i went. made amazing friends, the art and gym classes are awesome. participation isnt manditory, but if you do participate and complete your daily goal, you get to stay up later and play games with the other patients. i heard from one of the other patients that the eating disorder treatment isnt great, so careful of that. they almost sent one of my friends home even after he said that he would kill himself after arriving home, but luckly they didnt... overall, there are some major flaws, but if you become friends with the other patients, its super great and you can complain about the doctors and nurses. also, if you go into the adolescent unit, do not be afraid of hillary! she was amazing, me and my friends loved her so much, we cried on our last day there and one of them drew her a nice picture. you can really trust her, and if you see her, tell her that ryan says thank you for helping him so much

before I went in I was about to take my life the hospital took me their it completely changed my outlook on life they are there for support they will talk one on one if you ask. the coping skills truly do work and they ask you how your feeling a few times a day. This is an amazing place who made it possible for a bunch of people to smile and laugh again with TRUE happiness and found reasons to keep living.

I did the partial program from 9 to 3. The program itself was good and it really helped meeting other people who have the same issues as me. That was honestly the only good thing about this place. The billing department is trash. Nobody knows their job. I spoke to Kelly and Angela, and neither one knew up from down. I paid a week in advance so I could get the discount, and I ended up missing Thursday and Friday because they sent me home because I had shingles. When we paid upfront they said they would have no issue with getting a refund if I wasn’t there for a day. Almost a month later and I still have not issued the refund. I had called over 10 times. I finally got your attainted and drove 40 minutes to Forest view to speak to someone. When I got there they acted like I was a huge bother. They didn’t apologize for me having to drive all the way out there, and it took over a month but they finally gave my refund. Also my doctor was doctor saifollahi and he prescribed me a medication and didn’t even prescribe enough to last me till my next 1 month app with him. I called his office in three days later he got back with me. After I was out of the medication and going through withdrawals. The secretary called me 10 times and then asked for my Social Security number and then for my mother‘s Social Security number. I’ve never had to give that before and found a very strange that they needed it now. After 10 phone calls with them, they said they would send in the prescription that night. They ended up not sending it in that night and I had to wait a whole Nother day before I got a prescription. I finally got a call from my pharmacy saying my prescription is ready. So I drive 15 minutes to my pharmacy to pick it up. All for them to have sent in the wrong medication and now I have double the medication I don’t need and I’m out completely for my medication for my anxiety. I’m extremely pissed Because I’m experiencing withdrawals from this medication. I don’t recommend this place because of the companies they use. Take your money elsewhere and go to Pine Rest. This place is a pure joke.I’m extremely mad I wasted my money here because my insurance didn’t even cover it. Thanks Forest view for nothing.

alexandria ledgerwood

this place is a hell hole. they are run by common purpose or an affiliate. they are truly evil people. all they do is practice on people and treat them like guinea pigs. forestview is part of mk ultra and project monarch. they have a ward there for multiple personality disorder. dorene kay lilley is part of mk ultra and project monarch as well. she sends her sexually abused clients there.

I was placed in patient against my will and was given meds that made me sleep for 3 days. My roommate thought I was dead.

Joseph Workman

Hard to admit I was a patient here but I am so very glad I went to this facility. The staff can be great but there are a few that need to step out of there comfort zone and work in a different capacity.

Misanthrope 616

Groups were good, but the psychiatrist I saw acted like he didn't care at all. He barely looked up from his paperwork and was rude when I was given the wrong dismissal date and asked about it. There was absolutely no communication between my wife and the hospital and they also neglected to inform my regular therapist and doctors as to what they were doing. Was given a powerful anti-psychotic to help me "sleep." Well it worked because it put me out for nearly 24 hours. Many roommate nearly died because of the meds they gave him while he had liver disease. I came in and he was a normal guy, by day three he was immobile in his bed and had been laying in his own urine for hours. Nightmare facility.

Worst place ever! You can’t help someone in 5-7days! And I told his caseworker JASON that 3x, you can’t release him yet, because my son knows what to do in order to get out(he is 15) I even said they had to be geniuses if they can help in 7 days( that’s how long my son was there)sure enough 3 days post-same kid like before he went in,NOTHING HELPED HIM

Best care I've received for my mental health. I highly recommend Forest View! The Doctors, Nurses & staff are top notch! Plus they have several programs to help you with your specific needs. Not to mention the food they serve is thee best! It was the highlight of my day(s). Plus when you continue your treatment in their partial program....same amazing food. Forgot to mention you're allowed to choose your therapist & doctors when it's time to continue your journey outside of the hospital setting. Truely thankful for my Doctor's & Therapists. Thank you Forest View your care was more than I hoped for & everything I needed. Please continue the good work. Blessings!

I had a horrible experience there last year. It traumatized me more than it helped. I have PTSD and DID. Their milieu was triggering to me. I liked Sheppard Pratt in Maryland much better.

Dedicated staff, my psychiatrist was great, very positive helpful and experience.

It was mostly good but my psychiatrist was not reasonable or really see things from another perspective. He was very old fashion in his views and judgemental.

The care my family member received was really good and I have no complaints about that. I should warn you though, at the end of the stay they say you can save on your costs by "paying in full". Their use of the term "in full" is deceitful. If you take the option to pay in full, you are only dealing with one department and you will still receive bills from other departments and/or other physicians who contract with the hospital and are not part of their billing.

Too bad one star is the lowest rating... This place doesn't even deserve a star... My sister was admitted here and they are extriememly rude and unorganized. They told us the wrong "going home date" which my parents took that date off from work, (which resulted in lost wages at work!) then "Martha" (nurse) tried to say they never told us "the wrong date." The nurses come off very snippy and the front desk lady (Pam) was very rude and unhelpful. They try to keep people longer than what they should and treat their patients with little respect. NO WONDER ITS A 2.9 STAR RATING! Smh Also a worker told my sister that the doctors give them drugs to see how they react, like little science experiments... (And they most likely) up doses without consent, I'm furious that I would even have to hear my little sister tell me that the workers/nurses/nurse treated her like crap! Lastly, a worker (Anthony) was a complete dick to my sister who has cystic fibrosis and while she was doing her breathing treatments he said "it was loud and annoying" and that he "doesn't beileve in coping skills" so he shut the door and made the patients color during a session when he should have been doing his job instead of being a lazy jerk.

I have no idea why there are 1 star reviews; I was here 3 times, one time in 2017, and twice in 2018. All my stays have been fine. My doctor the first time was Dr. Singlah and the 2nd and 3rd time were Dr. Singlah again and Dr. Bronson. Both are very nice doctors and well educated. Remember, this is a mental health facility not a hotel. Please take my word for it. I promise you that you will not have a negative experience. This is honestly the best mental hospital in Michigan, in my opinion. There’s a gym, a pretty big cafeteria, and the nurses and social workers there are phenomenal people. They are not mean at all. If you want mean and abusive, go to Havenwyck or Stonecrest. Overall, if you or a loved one needs help send them to this place (Forest View), Pine Rest, U of M, or St. Lawrence (Sparrow). Like I said, I personally prefer Forest View. Mental health hospitals to avoid at ALL costs: Henry Ford, Stonecrest, and Havenwyck.

Forest View Hospital served a purpose in my life.. but it didn't actually help it change. When I received treatment for an eating disorder, they were great at giving me coping skills for when I felt triggers to turn to my disorder. However, that's where it ended. I went back for SI/Depression/Anxiety and they changed my medication every few days. The psychiatrist in charge (it was a man) was a complete jerk and was very cocky. He offended my parents a few times talking with him when they were just asking simple questions about the medications. He liked to create issues with his patients by saying things that would trigger your emotional/physical state and medicate you as such. Most nurses were very kind, but some treated you like an animal. They were very harsh with taking blood in the morning and many people had bruises on their arms from the nurses being rough. The answer to every issue you were having was "use your coping skills". Nothing was thought through, nothing was talked about, nothing was attempted to be understood. You had a problem and you just had to deal with it. My parents were given no hope that I would ever get better or beat my depression. They said "she will deal with this her whole life".. But 2 years later I was off all of my medications and completely depression free. Still am! How dare they tell my parents that I would never get better! What happened to hope? What happened to improvement? ... Needless to say, my whole family was very upset with how depressing they were about everything. You're supposed to heal at a hospital. You're supposed to get better.. or at least improve. I never improved until I completely separated myself from their "treatments".

I referred one of my patients to the Forest View Partial Hospital Program and it was requested she come in two days early for a needs assessment. She was then admitted to the hospital against her will without meeting Hospital Admission Criteria. Being "anxious and tired" is not a reason to keep someone overnight against their will at a mental hospital. As her outpatient psychiatrist I am not okay with that. She keeps calling me, telling me she did not want to go in and was coerced to sign a document. She did not have her glasses with her and did not know she was signing herself into the hospital against her knowledge and consent. That is not ethical or appropriate. I keep getting the run around. I demanded to speak to Dr. Sefalahi, the psychiatrist on duty, and he has not called me and it's well over an hour. I've been trying to get answers for 2.5 hours now. This is a very urgent matter and I find this very disturbing as an outpatient psychiatrist with over 10 years of hospital experience at Pine Rest, having worked on their inpatient units and in their Partial Hospital Program. I know the system and rules. Forest View is not following them in this case. I am very troubled that.

As a person who has went through this agency, I find it absolutely absurd that after you are done with a partial program, and they have to see you once a month-once every three months, that when you need a certain prescription filled, they in fact DO NOT turn their phones on when they open. This is pathetic, that they are allowing people to not have their medication due to their lack of time management, and care. I would not recommend this place. They will not allow you to transfer to a normal care doctor without releasing you, and that has been well over a year.

DO NOT BRING YOUR LOVED ONES HERE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kissa Mehmet

I was here several years ago following a suicide attempt. Most staff were kind but not as alert as they should've been. I was able to self harm. Facilities were not clean, there were bugs. I usually felt safe but there were incidents of violence from someone acting out. It's hard to give an honest appraisal because of the sensitive nature of the place but I've seen others and many had cleaner nicer facilities. Inpatient there are curtains instead of bathroom doors, not much to do except sit around. It's an ok holding place.

boss life

Over all great got adult impatient care they are short staffed and some staff are rude mainly interns the food was good for hospital food in some sinces it seemed like they could upgrade the showers and monitor nurses better it would be five stars if it wasn't for staff shortage and they don't let people outside anough it's dry in. My experiences with Forest View have been nothing but enjoyable. The staff are caring and good at what they do. The doctors there actually listen to the concerns of the patients and check up with them every day. I left feeling completely satisfied and ready for the road to recovery. When I was in their partial program, everything was perfect. The staff is very understanding make good use of the time we are there. I loved Forest View and feel good knowing it's always there if I or someone I love need a safe place.

Clare

Honestly...please don’t send anyone here. Had treatment here a few years ago and it made things even worse that it was to begin with. Staff was extremely rude, lied about care. Lied about medications they had me on, gave me wrong medications. After I asked what medications they gave me they also lied about that. Kept me in there for over a month after saying it would be no longer than 2 weeks, and wouldn’t let me out. Was put on so medications it was numbing. This is only the adolescent unit. There is much more I could say but I’ll leave it at that. Really sad to see the lack of actual care people receive here. Surprised this place is still in business.

Sev KC

I've heard this place sucks. They treat you like complete trash except for a few nice staff and patients. My friend says they make you feel insane and like no matter what you do you're just another crazy person. This is the adolescent unit, all you do is just sit in groups and stay emotionless or they make you stay longer. I don't recommend this place at all.

Ronald Brammer

Not impressed at all. This place needs to be better inspected by the feds. They do everything but treat the root cause of a problem. They only care about collecting the insurance money and not the patients needs. The staff is beyond incompetent. Some of the so called professionals do not even speak English very well. How do you become a shrink without even being able to communicate with patient in their native language? They lie to the patient and the patients family about treatment. Good luck on getting a hold of the patient. They have this annoying message system that they use. Nobody there even gives the patient the message. They do not follow medical guidelines when it comes to patient medications. They will ignore your family doctors treatment plan for various conditions and follow their own guidelines. The only way I was able to get my loved one their correct medications was to keep complaining to head staff. This place is the worst care I could have ever imagined. Instead of making my loved one better they actually made the situation worse.

Michael Grabow

I have been here three times in the past six years. It has always been positive experience. The facilities are clean, the staff are quite helpful, and the food is great! Every time I've been there I've felt safe and cared for. Most of the other patients are fun to talk to and interact with. I hope I won't have to go back again, not because I don't like it, but I would rather be home with my family. It is a good hospital to go to for the help you need. Dr. Saifollahi was my doctor each time. He is very knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend this hospital.

Anika Samaniego

There was no actual therapy or help at all. I was a patient of Dr. Van Haren, and heard good things about him. Unfortunately, he believed in solving every little problem with a new pill. I came into the hospital taking only 2 pills daily, i left taking 11. Staff were very rude and immature, there wasn't good enough supervision of patients, but hey, the food was fantastic.

Kelley Clark-Rumpf

This place is horrible. I went for the dual diagnosis program they supposedly have and there was no such thing. They screwed up my meds, tried to give me meds I was supposed to take on an empty stomach, gave me the wrong meds, and tried to drug me up. The only good thing was my psychiatrist there diagnosed me correctly, just didn’t listen to me as far as what kind of meds work for me. The food is horrible. The rooms are outdated. There “system” for meds is ridiculous, all on paper, no computer system. I didn’t even get a “hospital band,” if that’s what you want to call it, until the 3rd day I was there. I could go on and on but all I really need to say is don’t check yourself in or send a loved one to this horrendous place.

Erica

This place is literally disgusting. The bathrooms are unisex and shared between the adults and adolescents. The toilets always had piss on the seats and were not cleaned. The staff members were rude and constantly tried to push medications upon patients before even understanding the issue. I was placed in the wrong program entirely for the first two days and once placed in the correct program, 60% of the time was spent just waiting around. This place is understaffed and I wouldn’t recommend this facility to to my worst enemy. DO NOT go here, it is an enourmous waste of time and money and will likely make any disorder worse.

Crystal LaMadline

After four days of being on a wait list to get help for my son, four days of them giving us hope, and four days of us planning on this admission we were told they wouldn't accept him because of aggressive behavior (apparently an infrequent issue that I was up front and honest about with EVERY SINGLE PERSON I SPOKE TOO which is at least 5 different people, is considered a frequent issue anyway). Now we're back to doing this ourselves, alone, as usual with no professional help. Thanks for nothing.

Tyler Kolbe

Staff was helpful and kind, besides Bree being a bully in Uno, and overall made the experience bareable. Dr. Saifallahi, who is not a board certified psychologist, is absolutely terrible. He misdiagnosed me with schitzoaffective disorder despite me not having any history of it and showing no signs of it. He claimed I refused medications for simply asking him why he was adding medication when the staff all said I was fine. It's clear he is merely trying to set people up to go to his private practice as he refused to allow anyone to leave without signing a stipulation. He also violated HIPPA law by informing my mom about everything they were doing despite her not being on any release or emergency contact form, granted it is my mom but the fact is he had no permission or right to do that without asking me first. Luckily I already had a doctor so his stipulation meant nothing and my doctor took me off the unnecessary meds and took off the false diagnosis. He seems to be their main doctor and he simply does not care about his patients. If you want actual help steer clear of this place.

Colleen Marquis

First doctor to correctly diagnose and treat me. Food was ok, I was there for about a week and then in partial outpatient a week later. It was great and intensive therapy once you got into partial, too much playing around in in-patient for the therapy to really help but it's a good place to get your meds settled and then move into the more intense therapy.

britt watts

Most unorganized place I have ever been the classes were pointless inpatient and outpatient how is coloring and talking about ur favorite stuff going to help u get better..

Kylie Bergers

They diagnosed me with 2 inaccurate diagnosis. They told my parents that I had "major depressive disorder", I was no where near that. And that I had schizophrenia. I was being thrown from doctor to doctor. I have a case manager with an accent that I couldn't understand anything she said. I was but on 7 different meds, which made me gain 45 pounds I'm 14 days...don't send any loved ones here.

traci vorel

I had gone there to see a psychiatrist, and thought that I was seeing one. Two years later it came out that the woman I was seeing there was not a psychiatrist. She also provided incorrect perscription information my doctor who she coordinated care with. This could have been a very dangerous situation.

Mrs. Caitlin Soergel

* Stay away from this place! They don't care if you set up payment arrangements and pay on your medical bills each month, they will stab you in the back and send you to collections without any prior notice, even when you are making payments on your account. * Their billing department is a complete joke. I have set up payment arrangements for two bills from 2016 and every bill they send has a threatening message near the bottom where it states your new total after applied payments. The messages range from "You did not make your payment as promised" to "This is your final warning". When I call, and I have called SEVERAL times, to ask why I'm getting these messages, if the one person I've EVER spoken to returns my call, they just tell me it's something the computer automatically puts on the statement. Yeah right! If I'm making my agreed upon payment, why is every billing statement threatening me and stating the complete opposite? Also, they have NO financial aid/assistance which SUCKS.

To start off, it is a mental hospital, not a hotel, so of course it wasn't perfect. It isn't dirty there. It is kept quite clean. Food there was amazing. I gained 15 pound being there, but the food was almost worth it. The doctors there were good as far as I could tell. I ended up going twice. The first time being 8 days while the second time being 16 days. This happened in the course of a month and a half. The doctors did get my meds wrong the first time, causing me to end up more suicidal than before. But it is okay, the doctors are trying to help you, and they wont be able to magically put you on the perfect medication. If you expect that, lower your standards for not only Forest View doctors, but all mental hospital doctors. The staff is definitely nicer to the adolescents, but isn't always lenient. There were a couple of staff members there tat I absolutely adored, they were such an impact on my recovery. Do I think I am going to go back there? Probably. But that has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PLACE ITSELF. Why can't people understand that mental health isn't just a cure instantly kind of thing. It can take years to get the right meds. A lot of the staff were amazing and loving and supportive. But the other half had absolutely no empathy for the kids who were basically in a psych ward. If you are going to choose a mental hospital, this is a good one. If you are expecting a hotel, lower your expectations.

Toe Knee

Ive seen patients physically and mentally abused at this facility. And i hear that the male workers rape girls when they are all drugged up. And then they accused me of stealing a locker key, as if it was worth anything...

Bethany VK

My family member received good care. That is not the issue. My complaint is about the billing practices of the psychiatrists. I learned today that there is no legal obligation for any medical group/company to bill it's patients. Therefore, The psychiatrist group at forest view billed our insurance and never billed us for the remainder. When we didn't pay, because we didn't know, they sent us to collections. 13 collections notices. Apparently it is the patient responsibility to call around after treatment and find out who you owe money to. It may not be illegal, but it sure is unethical. They treat people for psychiatric disorders... but want to ruin them financially, that will make it better!

RUN dont walk away from this place. Looking for employment, run. Thinking about being a patient run. See those nice shiney photos up there? Thats when everything is nice new and entirely spotless. The place is filthy. Cant believe jahco lets a hospital this dirty operate. Housekeeping is extremely understaffed so nothing gets cleaned. They took away all the cleaning products bc they were too expensive. Maintenance doesnt make any money so they dont give them any money for repair or upkeep. Staff are overworked, definately underpaid. HR director is full of it, claimy theyre working to be the best they can while being so small. They dont pay their staff so they can pocket the money in bonuses. The one main doctor, commits fraud by saying he sees patients when he doesnt. He withholds safety precautions and medications to retaliate at the nurses and the staff. Upper management, CEO keep living you dream. Theyre gonna run this place into the ground miling insurance companies and providing no healthcare until they are told they cant anymore. To the patients I took care of here: hope I made your life a little better. Myself and the staff truly did care, and wanted what was best for you. The doctors just suck and we had no tools to provide a good behavior health service. For that I am sorry. Please complain to jahco if you were mistreated, or your rights violated.

The adolencent unit is horrible. Dont allow your child there. They won’t be treated fairly and the staff is unprofessional. They will also sue you if you cannot make the entire payment soon enough. No matter how small an amount you have left.

Very nice, helpful, and understanding staff and activity therapist. They were there to listen to me and help me during my inpatient stay. Wish I could thank them in person today.

When I first contacted forest view I talked to them on the phone asking if I could admit myself to the outpatient service. They said that if I went in for an evaluation I would be able to chose if I wanted to go to outpatient or inpatient. When I went in for the evaluation, they wouldn’t let me chose or leave like they promised. They kept me in there for a week. When I went in for the evaluation, I only had the clothes I was wearing, which I had to wear the whole week I was there. The first day I was there, I talked to the psychiatrist assigned to me (Dr. Bronson) for all of 30 seconds before she diagnosed me. I was obviously very upset and agitated as anyone else would be in that situation. When they brought me to the unit I would be staying in, I told the nurses that I wanted to talk to my psychiatrist again, they refused, so I kept asking and asking and they were ignoring me. Finally after about 30 minutes of this they tried to give me a drug called Ativan to calm me down. Anyone with any experience taking Ativan knows that it basically will make you so intoxicated that you can’t even function normally, let alone ask anymore question. When I refused to take it, the told me that if I didn’t they would have to call security and restrain me. That was just the experience on my first day, after that they made me take Ativan for the next two days. I was prescribed a drug that I knew nothing about and all it did was make me fall asleep in the middle of group sessions. The whole building was filthy and covered in ants. One of the mental health workers in charge of group sessions told me That running group wasn’t normally her job and that she didn’t care what we did. The beds were rubber and only about 3 inches thick. The pillows were completely flat, you would’ve been better off using a concert block. The showers were cold. They didn’t really separate the violent patients from the nonviolent patients so there were a few times that I legitimately feared for my life. The food wasn’t too bad but due to the medication that they put me on, I didn’t have any appetite so I could never even eat it. I was lucky to talk to my psychiatrist and case worker once every two days. Not once did I see any security in the unit I was in so there was no one to protect us from violent patients. They kept me in there without me being able to look up the phone number for my job so I was fired when I got out. Not to mention that without good insurance, you will be a couple thousand dollars in debt after leaving. Overall I would not recommend Forest View to anyone. You would be better off setting up appointments to private psychiatrists or psychologists. I can’t speak on any other mental health hospitals because after my experience here I will never be going back to any of them if I need to.

Went to the partial hospitalization program here and it was wonderful. At any hospital you can find faults but I embraced the experience and received so much support and many tools to help me. Kudos to the staff at Forest View. Easily the best psych hospital in Michigan.

i have a loved one there, and no communication from the staff , she said she,s going to be released, but i think they bill ins.co are they helping /or hurting more from a bad perscription, from a doct, and we live in northern mi , it has been 7 day,s and no word from anybody but my fiance, and the script was from a doct or up here, 200 mile drive to pick her up, she said the doctor is swell, but i called staff, and get to leave a message, it just added,s more stress to her and me, ill trad places with her because i may be in there for stress, that no one need,s. and ill a patient next. if staff is reading this contact me i am and her hippa list,

Forest View is an amazing hospital! I've been to many other hospitals...none as good as Forest View. Dr. Saifollahi (the doctor that I have had almost every time) is very caring, considerate, intelligent, and has a great sense of humor on top of everything else. The food is great...I crave their food and desserts every day still, most of the staff are very caring (with the exception of a few), and they are just amazing at what they do. Thank you Forest View!

Alright, this is out of control. This job is terrible. They treat their staff terrible. They always mandate staff who actually try there best, meanwhile there are slackers calling in sick for the dumbest inaccurate reasons, causing the actual staff to have to take their weight. This needs to stop, seriously. now.

What a joke, my son was in there for a week, NOT ONCE do you get one on one counseling! It's all group! What a joke of a facility

Place is a joke. They give you random medication and dont explain what they are. The dr. was cussing at my family and myself because we mentioned getting a lawyer involved. Go somewhere else.

I was here for about 8 days inpatient and 3 days for partial. It really helped me with what I needed. But it wasn't perfect, especially for what you pay. The food was surprisingly amazing. It was nice to have a homecooked meal three times a day. The staff was about half and half. Some of them were amazing and some of them were not so much. Some of them treated you like you weren't even a person and like we had completely lost our minds and had no idea what was good for us. Some of them had absolutely zero compassion. In a place like this when you are at your most vulnerable and in an unfamilar place, you need compassion and kindness and understanding the most. I'm glad I went there, though. It was probably one of the better psychiatric hospitals in the area. (But I never want to go back!!!!) Also, my shower smelled weirdly moldy even though there was no mold and the cleaning ladies came every few days.

I was in the teen unit and it was horrible. All we did was sit around and play card games all day. There were a few staff members that were okay, but the rest sucked. If you didn’t participate in groups (playing card games) they would accuse you of isolating yourself and force you to participate. I had three different roommates through the entire time I was there. The first two were okay, but I was honestly scared that the third one was going to seriously hurt me. I told the staff members and they said that they would try to move me around the next day. I told them that I couldn’t wait until tomorrow because first of all my roommate identified as a he and second I didn’t want to die. If you don’t eat 100% of all your meals they’ll put you on treys where you have to stay back and have the staff watch you eat, or they’ll accuse you of having an eating disorder and they’ll make you eat in the ED group. The place was disgusting and when I went into the bathroom there was paper towel all over the floor, there was piss on the seat, and it smelled like rotten eggs. They don’t let you go to your rooms during the day unless it’s room time and they stick us in our rooms when they’re low on staff. They’ll search your room even though there’s no possible way that we could get anything past them and if you ask to do something they’ll say no just because they have the power to. Some of the patients were sharing personal information with other patients which the staff specifically said not to do. The door alarms would go off every two seconds and they would mostly go off in the middle of the night. When there was a code yellow in our unit, the staff let some patients out of the rooms we were supposed to be in.The doctors put me on a new medication the day I was supposed to discharge so I had to stay longer. The staff will put you on three medications that all do the same thing. They raise the dosage way too fast. If you say that you don’t feel like the medication is working, they’ll put you on a different one but still keep you on the old one. You only got to go to the gym a few times and there’s no possible way to get your energy out anywhere else. They put you on as many things as possible so that they can make more money. They’ll also keep you much longer than needed just to make money. The staff have their favorite patients that get treated much better. When I was about to go to the gym for yoga, they said I couldn’t go because i was talking during groups, which I wasn’t doing. There was a whole group of people that were talking but still got to go because the staff liked them the most. The staff will judge you for the reason you’re there. The staff will ask you personal questions in front of other patients. They do the same things over and over and they won’t let you discharge unless you say you’ve learned something. If you don’t have hygiene products, they’ll only give them to you if your one of the favorited patients. The showers are freezing cold. The food tastes like butt. They set rules and break them on a daily basis. When I first got there they took my stuffed animal. The staff looked everywhere for it every single day and couldn’t find it. On the day I discharged they found my stuffed animal off the unit I was in and they said that if they would have found it sooner I could have kept it in my room. They never practice safety and they say that if there’s a fire, we have to stay inside until it’s the last second. If your having a panic attack they won’t let you call your family until call time. You can only talk to someone else at call time for 10 minutes. The visiting hours are every few days and most of the time they’re during the day so it’s hard for people to get out of work. Overall I would never recommend going to this place. It’s disgusting and unfair. I only went there because the hospital forced me to go. Honestly, juvenile detention was better than there. I was preying that they would send my back to Juvie instead of forest view.

Oi Oi

I broke my glasses there and had a short episode, a nurse immediately requested permission from my guardian to fix them and then drove out to a nearby glasses store and had them fixed. Great service, good food, good staff, very helpful doctors.

I requested Forest View because my daughter had been there before and they did a wonderful job at assisting us through that difficult time. Unfortunately, this time was an entirely different experience. The case worker and the Dr never read the reasons for the petition and never once spoke with family members for insight. The day of her release to outpatient is when the case worker finally spoke with her father and I. When I stated that she can't come home delusional, is the moment that it was realized by the case worker that she didn't have a home, cars or a significant other and she would be homeless. It has been a nightmare since then. Her delusions have increased and her manic/agitated state has escalated since being in outpatient. Her med compliance has not been proved by blood work and her mental health has declined in the eyes of her family.

Horrible. I'm still shaking. They destroyed one week of my life. My mental health is worse than before I was sent there. It took four days to see a case manager. The staff smiles and agrees to everything you ask for, but nothing gets done (with the exceptions of some good staff). I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Great recovery if you are willing to put in the effort to help yourself get better, you can not just expect the nurses and therapists to be babying you through your recovery period it is a balance that you need to make sure you are willing to have them assist you in your recovering period. You meet so many different people with your same problems that are not judgmental of course there will be people you do not get along with but it is true with every place. If you are needing somewhere to recover I highly recommend Forest view to begin your recovery. Also impatient facilities are great and extremely clean, beds are not fun though.

I made the serious mistake of admitting my teen daughter to this dreadful place. It has taken her weeks of therapy to recover from the multiple traumas she experienced there. Both her case manager and psychiatrist were unreachable, irresponsible and refused to believe anything she said. The case manager out of an inability to read the psych.'s notes treated her as if she was psychotic. I asked them many times to watch my daughter when she ate as she was spitting her food into her milk container. They never did so and she lost 6 lbs in the 10 days there. I could go on but there are just too many outrages committed there for this forum. PLEASE consider any alternative available. If you do have to use this place, be sure to document each interaction so you can file a grievance with the hospital and the MI licensing board.

"Use your coping skills," is the answer to any problem you may have, including abuse by the staff and faculty. For example a patient I know of told a staff member that she was going to kill herself and he walked away. Furthermore, many of the doctors and nurses are very rude, condescending, and don't listen. We were lucky when we did get the occasional caring nurse or doctor. If you have any sort of choice on what hospital you go to, I strongly urge to do plenty of research, or look elsewhere.

Joy Wahby

I'm surprised they can keep their licence. They have released our mentally ill son twice now with out a 90 day order. You go through all the pain of getting a pitition to have your loved one in treatment and they release the before the date of their court date. And your back to day one. The first time we had to get another partition. This time I'm not sure what we are going to due. They do not communicate with the case manager or the family. Please do your research before you agree to send your love one here. I can't tell you the pain and anguish this hospital has caused us
