After a brief stay here, it's easy to see there are staff members that give 100% and others that just show up. Because of this mentality, the staff clearly have issues with each other and argue just as much as the patients do with each other. It was NOT a safe environment, as the inmates were running the asylum. Although the facility is fairly new, it needs to be sterilized more frequently, due to patients that would NEVER shower. Those patients always seemed to have their filthy hands and body on every inch of that place. The doctors have too many patients, therefore, cannot provide good care. I was there for depression and was never given or prescribed any medication to treat the reason why I was there. Very sad reality that even the hospitals that are suppose to help you, do little to nothing. Thus the reason people leave there and end up worse than prior to going in. You realize... there truly is no real help out there :(

Terrible. Just terrible. My mom didn’t get any help there. They gave her the wrong inhaler. Refused to give her clean underwear. Would defiantly not recommend. -0 out of 5 stars they are terrible

Terrible place. Did absolutely nothing for my loved one. Didn’t help him at all. Never even called me back. I’m disgusted. This place should be shut down.

Would give it 0 (zero) stars if i could. I have now been diagnosed with PTSD from the abuse I endured.

Worst inpatient experience I have ever had. Some staff could care less about patients and the the focus solely on safety leaves nothing to do except get medicated. Also I was attacked by another patient and the staff I felt handled it poorly, they practically ignored it except a few get a load of that, can you believe... etc, comments. Nothing was done about it! My civil rights were violated on numerous incidents. If failing to intervene was an offence, I could sue. In all, avoid at all costs. This was my first and hopefully last time here.

It was terrible, dirty and disgusting! People peeing themselves and staff not cleaning it up. You can barely understand what the staff was saying. Drs HA HA they are there for all of 5-10 min a day and are useless! I have PTSD from my 47 hours I was mistakenly put on the wrong floor but they would not move me. I will never tell anyone ever again I am feeling unsafe! Worst experience ever!

Never ever go here. Never go to BMC. The psych department there is awful. They will send you somewhere even worse. I have had schizoaffective dissorder for 8 years. I have been to many psychiatric facilities. Other than Westwood Lodge (which has just been shut down) I'd say arbour jp is the worst. Go to MGH you'll be treated with respect. They might send you to Mclean which is the best psychiatric hospital in Massachusetts. If there are no beds Pembroke isn't so bad and I've heard Tufts is pretty nice. It's really too bad the mental health budget is so low and there aren't more even half decent options.

I was just a young teen (13), when I was there in children ward. But it helped me with my anger issues. But it was a cool place with helpful staff and limited rules.

The medical records staff, Mary, Maruda and George Smith as well as Dr. Alasdair Donald are the primary reason why I am giving this facility a one star review. A member of my family was discharged from this facility at the end of September and we needed a Doctor's note for a November 21 deadline. Dr. Alasdair Donald, who treated my brother refused to provide us a doctor's note about whether my brother was able to physically work after the date of his discharged. My brother was suppose to handle this matter as soon as he was discharged but had to deal with other matters. I took it upon myself to help him, because we had a hard deadline to meet. Mary, the director of medical records at Arbour Hospital (extension #1230), and Maruda were not responsive to any of my phone calls. The few times they were responsive to my calls was when someone from the front desk had to ask them to do their job. Eventually, my brother and I conceded to the fact that we would not receive a letter/doctor's note from Arbour Hospital, but found an alternative solution in resolving our matter. However, I felt it was necessary for us to at least get a written statement of accountability from Arbour Hospital medical records staff stating that they are not willing to provide us the documentation we needed as well as their reasoning. We spoke to George Smith, a mid-60s male with a pot-belly, visible tattoos, who still wears earrings about attaining this statement of accountability, but he refused without providing his reasoning. The tone and manner that all three of these people from the medical records staff and Dr. Alasdair Donald used with me in handling this matter on the behalf of my brother was reminiscent of the time South Boston residents fought against busing to keep their community schools segregated. This is alarming since Arbour Hospital neighbors two predominately diverse communities in Boston (Roxbury and Jamaica Plain). Hopefully, someone who cares about Arbour Hospital's reputation will try to improve the service provided in order to limit the number of bad reviews. The nurses and front desk staff do a phenomenal job in helping patient's and their families. However, the people I mentioned in this review regarding my efforts to attain a SIMPLE doctor's note which required only one sentence makes me question whether a facility like this should be kept open.

Terrible experience. I was there back in october for drug addiction treatment but since i had an overdose, Cape Cod Hospital sent me here. First of all, we werent allowed to bring food up from the cafeteria even though they infrequently gave us food upstairs and when they gave us food, it was gone immediately. secondly, the doctor who was supposed to be a specialist on addiction, didnt know much, met with everyone for 5 mins every 4 days, my mom had a couple questions on a meeting and he rudely told her he didnt have time for her questions. Third, even though there were some nice staff, even they were upset with some of the stuff going on at the facility. The other staff would mock and mimick the clients. Fourth, a few times there were room raids where they would throw out food that people stashed because them giving out food was infreqent, they also started throwing out random hygiene products, my roomate had his tooth brush thrown out and i had my shampoo taken away. Fifth, you ask the staff to do anything, it would never get done or it would take hours for the simplest tasks. Most of the time, there were no drinking cups because the staff didnt feel like getting us any. Sixth, they would make it very hard to leave. and they would trick us into staying. One person's suboxone prescription ran out so he signed a form to be let out, they told him he'd get more suboxone if he withdrew his form to leave. They didnt even give him the suboxone. The whole time i was there i was extremely distressed and i noticed i started to lose my sanity. This place was extremely neglectful. Another client there told me that the staff in the more handicapped units would actually physically abuse the people there, but that's hearsay so im not sure if its true, but i wouldnt put it past this terrible facility. All in all, if you want to send someone to hell, send them here. If you want to send someone somewhere to get the help they need, absolutely send them to another facility.

The last time I was there in 2004 I saw mice and cockroaches. Also the staff was severely undertrained and cared little about the patients. That hospital needs to be shut down

This place was one of the worst hospitals I could ever imagine being sent to! is a joke they don't do anything they let the patient sleep with each other and staff and pass their medications around to each other! And I just got a bill for over $200! I'm not giving that collection agency my information I'm going to hand it over to my doctor and have her deal with it since she sent me there! Once again this hospital is a running a scam and they are trying to run up insurance bills I had to sign myself out because they were not providing any care to me at all and you bothand the Doctor who was saying that I was a danger to myself and others said you're the nicest person here I really shouldn't have done that we just need to keep the beds filled I was the only one attending meetings or actually taking my mental health seriously.

This “hospital” is easily, hands down, unarguably, without a single shadow of doubt the absolute dirtiest, most unprofessional and complete hack for a hospital I’ve ever had the misfortune of seeing in my life. I myself have an associates degree in human service, a bachelors degree in special education severe, and a combined 7 years of experience in the field and & the things I saw in the short 3 days my loved one was in this joke of a facility were nothing short of horrific. There is a disgusting lack of training for the “nurses”. There is a also sickening abuse of power among the staff on 3south. I heard a nurse threaten bodily harm on not one but two patients on two separate occasions. I witnessed people urinate on themselves and not be cleaned at all in the two hour visit time. My loved one was denied showers, his clothes were stolen, and they gave him the wrong medications on more than once occasion and so so so so many more things. The second my loved one was discharged (I had to wait because I was scared due to the disgusting abuse of power that they would try to keep my loved one longer if I hadn’t bit my tongue) I called the board of health, a relative of mine who happens to be the assistant district attorney, the better business board, the local news station, the local newspaper and i will be filing a formal complaint with the ceo of arbour hospitals LLC first thing Monday morning. To anyone reading this, IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONE DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO COME TO THIS TERRIBLY SAD EXCUSE FOR AN ESTABLISHMENT. THEY WILL LEAVE WORSE THAN THEY CAME IN, THE OTHER 25 SICKENING REVIEWS ARE NOT LYING THIS PLACE IS SO MUCH WORSE THAN YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE.

Despite all the negative reviews I actually had a good experience here. I went last year for a week in the youth unit. (I was 16) The staff was really friendly and made me feel like they were my friends, the food was bomb. I feel like with any institution, it can really be a hit or miss depending on the other patients in your unit because it always changes. Sometimes you can get a really chill group or have people with anger issues, moody, loud, you just gotta be lucky I guess. My group was a mix of both which was okay. There were fights sometimes but that’s expected and I think staff handled it as well as they could. Everyday we had a schedule we would get up, get breakfast, have group, we had free time for games, music, chilling in your room, drawing. We also had “school” basically just work on stuff they give you or stuff from your school. We’d watch movies all together everyday. If you don’t want to do any of these things they let you stay in your room but you won’t get privileges like playing Xbox and going on tablets and stuff. Overall best experience I could have asked for.

Run far from this hospital!!!! Go straight to newton Wellesley hospital where they care! I had the most horrific experience here. I have mdd, and the doctors were far from competent to deal with it. There are drug addicts running around everywhere. I sent the ceo of the hospital a letter letting him know that this place should be shut down. Without a dought, the worst place in the entire world. I’m still having nightmares from this place. The staff have no consideration, and they are consicending.

This place traumatized me. I already had/have enough trauma as it is When I was there. It was constant screaming and fighting. People hot sedated everyday. Paint getting peeled off and repainted everyday. Groups weren't even helpful at all. One kid lifted a bolted in table out of the ground I refused to leave my room other then to go off unit and eat. Even then there were fights. This is not the place for people suffering from depression anxiety or anything like This is a strictly behavioral unit. And needs to stay that way or get shut down

Staff in the lockdown facility was great. Some were douchbags, but for the most part you could tell most had life experiences and could relate to the clients. Got the feeling a few staff were definitely the type that could have been sitting as a client at some point in their lives

Patients at Danvers State Hospital were treated better. The staff are delusional and sadistic. They commit coercion and insurance fraud, something their healthcare superiors must have taught them about. It's extremely alarming how delusional the people working here are. Despite all the criticism they seem do be in a fantasy land where they believe they are good at their jobs. It's not healthy for the patients. Someday these sadistic workers are going to piss off the wrong person and get themselves killed, and no one is going to care.

Disgusting place. I was here over 10 years ago locked inside of a room 24 hours a day with no one to talk to. Staff was horrible. Couldn’t use the phone when I wanted to call mother, they lie and tell you that you’ll be out on this day but then that day comes, and no release. I didn’t feel like I was “helped” my only focus was getting out of there. They also lied to my mother about how she wouldn’t be able to take me out of the hospital early. They towed my mothers car without warning, they never gave me a phycologist nor psychiatrist!!! They messed me up really bad. After my release I was back to being suicidal. Awful place. Needs to get shut down ASAP. If I could sue them I would!!!

Arlene Hardin

Awful experience with this hospital. Not only was it dirty but the majority of the staff were unprofessional. They fought to keep our loved one there after they practically overdosed them with unnecessary medications (illegally due to not having a full medical work up) and when we asked to have the loved one transferred to another facility we were told it could not be done. Our loved one complained to the nurses about the roommate going through our family pictures and phone numbers (brought in to comfort loved one) and the nurses did absolutely nothing about it - pretty scary considering the roommate was previously in prison and obviously no one was informed what for. The unit supervisor had given us a hard time after the facility had lost all of our loved ones clothes, the social worker seemed like she was overdosed on medication herself and was very short-tempered when it came to any care plan questions, and the Doctor had told us our loved one was “very, very sick” and could not be discharged and then discharged loved one 3 days later without informing any family and without a proper care plan. Front desk staff were probably the friendliest people in the whole facility but lacked knowledge on safety precautions - ex: one day we could wear a jacket, another day we could not, one day we could bring in cell phones, another day we weren’t even allowed to have our wallet with us, and one night they let us bring a bag in without checking it at all! Guards seemed okay but very unhappy with their position and inconsiderate of people’s time. One was bringing us to the unit and we ended up sitting in the hallway for 15 mins with them while they talked to another coworker about their weekend - all the while taking up the already little time frame we had for visiting hours. I honestly don’t know how this place is still running. Horrible facility.

Very scary experience. My brother is going through some serious problems. the staff has not got back to us in three days. He has been there 5 days and seems like he is getting progressively worse since being admitted here Saturday. I'm worried for his life.when I spoke to the staff Saturday they seemed pleasant. But we have been trying to talk to a doctor since Monday to know what medication they are giving him which is obviously not working at all. Every second we don't know what is happening is like an eternity. I can't even visit him because they have him so roped up they probably don't want me to flip out.
