REVIEWS OF AAMG Mental Health Specialists IN Maryland

I can't speak to the quality of their actual facilities or the practitioners you can schedule with, but I've had multiple issues with this practice in terms of their administrative staff and their counselors in the ER. For the most part, they've been minor things, but things I haven't had issues with at other practices (like getting calls from a collection agency for a bill I already paid). Every interaction I've had with them has left me frustrated, so I would be very hesitant to receive care here.

I have found the front desk very helpful, going so far as to whip out a AA County school calendar to get an appointment for my grandson that would work with his school schedule. He looks forward to seeing his counselor and they have established a good relationship.

Appointment is at 1pm, arrive at 1pm, told me I didn't arrive at 1230 so I can't be seen. Of all places to have irascible policies, it would be mental health clinic. The person at the front desk was happy to tell me off too, that's what was even stranger. I recommended that if they need people here at 1230, then make the appointment for 1230 instead of 1. I hope someone who can affect real change reads this and actually does something about it.

I agree the women at the front desk are very rude. This is not the best practice around by far

They have a great children’s psychiatrist there, Mitch Odom. Mitch is very smart and caring. He also works in the children’s Mental Health ED sometimes at AAMG. Very convenient for when my boy is having a mental health crisis. He doesn’t play around with his medications. He gives him everything he needs. Very easy to get along with and work with. I trust my son's life with him.

First I would like to say that I was told multiple times while scheduling my son’s appointment that I must arrive 20-30 mins early for the appointment or go on their website and print out the paperwork to do before We got there or way may not be able to be seen so those of you complaining about that aspect probably just can not follow simple directions. As far as the front desk was concerned I didn’t encounter any rudeness however the older lady on the right I believe when you walk in seems like she needs a new proffession. She is hard to understand , loud and outright obnoxious. It seemed as if she was having trouble pronouncing the simplest of words and as easy as my last name is couldn’t even pronounce that. She was smacking in between every word which was so unprofessional! Idk what she was eating but I’m sure it wasn’t that good. As for the provider,my son was originally scheduled to see Mitchell Odom the nurse practitioner but we received a call that he was not able to take our insurance due to credentialing or something of that matter so we either had to pay for the visit or see the other nurse practitioner Rebecca Elle’s or the only doctor they have in staff who I believe is coy I wasn’t really sure what the person was saying. We ended up with Rebecca and when I say cookoo bird I mean cookoo BIRD!!! Something is seriously wrong with that woman it’s as if she can’t tell her head from her feet. She also wanted my son to come in every week but when we were referred we were told it we be about a once a month appointment because it was outpatient. She seemed lost the entire visit and I’m not sure how much trust I can actually put into her seeing my son but unfortunately we are stuck with her until I can find someone else to do his meds. The office overall was pretty neat the lobby had two TVs and a kid section and the process from check in to being taken back moved pretty quickly. He was called back by a nurse who did the usual and then we went directly in with the loony woman. It Would have been five stars if not for the crazy person treating my son who is coming in for mental health help himself or the irritable lady at the front desk that sounded like she should be eating with the animals in a barn.

TERRIBLE I MEAN TERRIBLE FRONT DESK STAFF... SO rude and careless have no care in the world that these are real people with real lives and emotions and issues and everyday normal problems. Super cold attitudes TERRIBLE interpersonal skills. If you ask me they could use some mental health therapy themselves to fix those attitudes!

This review is for the front desk/administration ONLY. We had an appointment and received two text messages confirming our appointment time. We arrived and were told that we had to arrive 30 minutes before that to fill out paperwork. They asked me if I had the paperwork already (there is no place to download it) and I said that I didn’t, so they rescheduled me. I left with the paperwork and came back 30 minutes before my appointment just in case because I didn’t want to get rescheduled yet again. I was given even more paperwork upon arrival. I don’t know why they didn’t give it all to me at once. I also don’t understand why I can’t input this online so that they don’t waste their time/money typing in something I had to fill out by hand. Jennifer Walton is our therapist and she’s been great. I would give her five stars at this point. However, I’m incredibly anxious, now, about when to arrive for my appointment going forward. If you choose this practice, be prepared to arrive early if you want to be seen.

Unlike what other reviews say, I love Tiffany and Leslie at the front desk. Mitch, Tex, and Rebecca have been amazing for my family and I do not know what I would do without them.

The only reason this is not one star is because Jennifer Wilhelm is wonderful. The women at the front desk are extremely rude and unprofessional. They act like you are bothering them, and roll their eyes when you ask questions. They treat you with very little respect. Avoid this practice if you can.

The reception staff are very hit-or-miss. If you're just conducting business as usual, everything goes smoothly. But if you actually need individualized help... forget it. During my very first interaction with them, I was a patient at their partnered PHP clinic. I was advised by the clinician there to call there for myself and arrange my post-discharge care, and I was met with attitude because new patients from the PHP typically don't set up their own discharge plan. Instead of simply listening, AAMG's receptionist put me on hold to argue with PHP's receptionist over protocol-- but making my own appointment by phone was actually part of my therapy. There have also been several occasions where I've been advised by my psychiatrist to call and discuss issues with my medications during appointment gaps or emergencies, which has always been dismissed and challenged. Again, instead of just trusting me or communicating properly with my care providers I get the book thrown at me. I've had two gaps in meds because of this. On a positive note, Rebecca (psych) and Carol (therapy) are wonderful whenever I go to see them. Rebecca recognizes that I do my homework, and allows me to play a very active role in my treatment plan. And Carol has a very balanced approach, providing insight when I'm not grounded and points out the holes in my thought processes without being critical. I'm looking forward to seeing them soon, but if I get a chance to call at 4pm the receptionists already have their overnight voice mail turned on.

Go somewhere else there are plenty of other mental health facilities that take many insurances. I work in front desk/administration at a dental office and was really pissed how my new patient call was handled. They were rude on the phone and was obviously annoyed I had some issues with my military spouse ID last name not matching my drivers license (recent marriage and in the middle of getting everything switched over). Was placed on hold without even telling me they were putting me on hold because they were frustrated they didn't know how to handle it. Plus, wait time for just a first new patient appointment is over 4 weeks. My primary care gave me a huge list of other options so don't waste your time.

Highly recommend Dr. Odom

Rating this practice 4 stars for Dr. Wilhelm. She is very responsive when I've called with medication issues and is always very attentive when I visit her for appointments. I appreciate that she works with me and considers my preferences regarding medication and treatment. Rating this practice only 1 star for the front office staff. They tend to be very rude and terse in their questions and responses. Sometimes you really have to push to get their attention. I was also very unhappy with the counselor I met with for a few sessions early on in my treatment. She was very strange and spent most of the session suggesting different reading materials or searching through stacks of paper for different inspirational quotes, etc. I didn't feel that she did a good job listening to me and trying to actually address my issues.

Zero stars not available with post. In reality, any stars would be aspirational. My wife showed up today for our son's appointment, only to find out they randomly dropped the appointment. No confirmation of who they spoke with, either. Simply a lame, "We received a phone call canceling the appointment". No confirmation that it was even anyone related to our son. My guess, is they overbooked the appointment. Unprofessional methods, and unprofessional behavior when asked about their lack of controls on medical appointments.
