When in a situation like this it's as good as it can be.

This hospital saved my life. The staff is exceptional. The therapist I had was the best I've ever encountered and got to the root of the problem, which apparently has been the root of a lot of problems throughout my life and I had no idea. She was just absolutely wonderful. And the Dr was great. It was a little hard to get time to see him, as he was always SO busy, but he always made time for you if you needed him. I can't imagine going anywhere else for recovery. Like I said... saved my life. I've been better since I've gotten out than I have been since I was a little kid (and I'm in my 30s). Life-changing experience.

For opiate detox they really, truly will try to make you as comfortable as possible. The doctors and nursing staff truly care and don't judge you and WANT you to suffer as little as possible and to get better. They even keep Gatorade and snacks at the nurses station and will gladly give them to you whenever you ask. I cannot begin to explain what a haven of decency and support this place is when contrasted with hellholes like Baton Rouge Behavioral Hospital, which desperately needs to be shut down. If you have to go to.detox, please go to River Oaks. They'll make your journey to sobriety so much easier than many other places, and with something this difficult, it's amazing how touching their level of care and concern is. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was because if you're vegetarian there's not a lot to eat, but even then they'll do everything they can to find you something. To be perfectly honest it took me two goes to put my problem behind me, and I just, I can't say enough good things about this place when compared to the true, torturous hell I was put through in Baton Rouge. I don't want anyone else to ever go through what I did, so please do yourself a favor and choose River Oaks, even of it takes a couple extra days on their wait list. They have one for a good reason.

Refuses to bill the correct payer. I have personally informed them, that the VA is the payer for services rendered. They were told upon admission, several phone attempts and by mail. The VA has CONTACTED them TWICE thus far, to inform them that they are paying and to have bills sent to them for processing. River Oaks REFUSES to send the VA the bills and insist they are sending to TRICARE, "since I am retired". TRICARE info was never given, since I am treated at the VA for this issue. To date, everyone involved with my care has already been payed by the VA! There is no co-pay with the VA, but River Oaks is threatening with collections for a co-pay they say I owe. If they would have billed the VA from the start, they would have been paid by now. I guess this is how Veterans are treated at this facility. Veterans beware of this hospital!

Wife is currently there for a series of mental obstacles. Her counselor is a sweetheart and was very helpful, which is the only reason this place should get even one star. Desk staff was very rude and give everyone a sour tone every time they answer the phone. Place recommended my wife to never work again and to live off disability. They also have told my wife on several occasions that she needs to come back another 3-4 times to get any better. To me personally, they are manipulating the fact she is so vulnerable in order to keep a consistent customer. Psychiatrist also does not believe in the disorder she actually went there for (DID) and diagnosed her with only PTSD, which wife has said multiple people there have had the same issue with the same “mental health expert”. This psychiatrist has actually been causing more stress on my wife while there. Another reason my wife is there is for eating disorders. They have been feeding her garbage (pizza, Oreos, etc), when they should be helping their clients with healthy dieting/rationing.

Completely disgusted. Went to sign paperwork for my stepdaughter who is a pathological liar, game player and all around problem. Found out the staff at River Oaks DID NOT listen to what they were told with regards to my stepdaughter. They allowed her phone calls when they were told no, which resulted in her crank calling me and harassing me during her stay there. They gave her cosmetics for her birthday, which they NEVER consulted me on and didn't bother to find out if the reason she is not allowed cosmetics is because she is ALLERGIC. They tried having me sign paperwork for clothing I know she did not have when she went in there and never once asked me to send her clothing. They never gave me any real updates unless I asked and basically babysat her and coddled her. The only person who seemed to have bit of a grasp was her social worker, Tiffany, but the rest of the staff is useless. To top it all off, they tried discharging her with clothes that were not hers and she came out FAT! In essence, an expensive "summer camp" for an extremely disturbed child who plays games for sympathy. I would not send a kid here if you want real treatment for their issues. UPDATE: Just received a copy of the "treatment" that was performed at River Oaks. Apparently the facility does not bother to listen to a thing they have been told by the family. The report, which is an inch thick, is filled with inaccuracies and false information. It would seem that the staff does not bother to review the notes as they go because they are also filled with contradictions. How can you say a patient says they have no hallucinations on one page and then that they do on another? How can you diagnose someone as bi-polar with cluster B traits and then place the blame on one specific person? This place is worthless and an complete ripoff. I think the fact that I have to give them even one star is a disgrace.

They took my daughter into there facility only to not give me any information to give to the doctors that they demanded her to see when I got her home. They charged me a great deal only for my child to come home with more problems than she went in with.plus a bill and no medical records to get her the care she needs.

First off I have to say if you need help or a place to go to make a change in your life this place would be my first choice. The process was not difficult at all and very quick. The Assessment was very clear and discreet. The In processing staff helped out alot. Within the hour I was in a ward and given comfort medicine to help me relax and sleep. The nurses and staff were all very helpful and encouraging. There is visitation every day of the week starting at 6pm. The food was actually very good and you get snacks at night: oreo, peanut butter cookies, fruit, granola bars, and cereals. There are activities to do and group sessions. There is TV's and they have movies network available. Outside activities as well. Best treatment center ever.

This place saved my life! I went in there not caring if I lived or died, I was in the eating disorder program for about 60- 90 days, The staff are excellent and the psychiatrist that was in charge helped me get to the root of my problems! Marian was one of the head therapist and was always kind and helpful! I still am struggling with my eating disorder, but the tools they gave me are still useful til this day! I am forever grateful for you guys! God bless y’all!

Paige Russell- Go Texas Tech /Go Rice Owls!!!!! The program was tailored - made for me and other patients. Outstanding care was given to each individual, and this is essential to healing. I left there knowing my toolkit of ACRs was full and doable. Diane and Dr Lavigne were very knowledgeable and supportive, and I couldn't say more about their compassion and professionalism. I was terrified to talk in a group setting, but I got over that in time. River Oaks has been the catalyst for my change. I feel that if I ever need any help, I will be back. Richmond (suburb of Houston,TX). 3 years later. I am now retired from teaching (British and American Literature). I am more alive, mentally and emotionally). My family and partner of 28 years all say the amazing transformation fits me well. I cannot stress how the hard work at RO pays off. 5 months ago, I was involved in a life-threatening car accident. I was removed with the Jaws of Life, lifted to a level one trauma hospital in the Texas Medical Center, and underwent very long surgeries just so I could live. I have many more surgeries to still go through, but I can guarantee being mentally well is sure HELPFUL (understatement).

River Oaks programs for adult survivors of sexual trauma are the best in the nation. Their staff is well trained and compassionate! I highly recommend them!

I won't recommend this place to anyone. I have been there once and won't be back. I don't fit their critria of suicide attempts, cutting, borderline personality disorder PTSD, depresion and anxiety. Just because of a medical need. Brenda

Very good treatment plans. Caring staff. I learned so much about myself. Helped me to get better...to believe in myself and know that I am ok. One has got to want to get better and then utilize all that it offers. It saved my life.

Life changing, beautiful, painful, helpful, hurtful, so damn worth it, and I would do it all again. Julia- is honestly the best person I have ever met.

Frankie Lovecchio

Only thing I can say is that the food is not horrible. Some of the staff is absolutely unqualified in dealing with addiction. Make this your last resort.

Been a long time but this place helped me so much. I am forever indebted to their kindness and yet firm treatment plan. Went there 3 X's. Wonderful community

Would literally never recommend this place to anyone. Ever. I thought my fiancé was gonna get the help he truly needed here for his struggles. They did help a little at first but they kept telling him he was going home a certain day then would come up with a reason as to why he couldn't. The doctor is beyond disrespectful as well. Saying things about my fiancé like...."well, maybe he shouldn't be a drunk" and that "hopefully he won't come back but..." now come on, tell me that's professional so I can laugh in your face. Do your research and find a place where people actually care and don't just stick you in group meetings just so they can put it on their website as being productive & helpful.

River Oaks offers a variety of well planned group recovery meetings. The hospital itself is very comfortable and welcoming and the staff were very compassionate and personable, the food was even good. There was even a Creative/Artistic group where I was able to create and paint ceramic itens. Smoking us allowed in designated areas. I would recommend this hospital to anyone seeking the services it offers.

Ashika Jacobs

Trying to seek help for someone and they keep saying call back every day. The same lady always seems to answer and she has such a nasty attitude. Hopefully if the person gets admitted his outlook on the place is different

Eurisko Lontano

I spent 1 month there searching for the truth about a specific diagnosis back in the 1990's. They literally tortured (psychologically) me to recover FALSE Memories to fit their agenda. I learned a lot while I was there, enough in fact to escape and return home AMA and was in a state of Post-Traumatic stress that destroyed my life, identity and job. After many years of self-discovery and True Memory recovery I now know who I am and what was the critical reason I was sent there. Be cautious, Be Aware and if they can help OK but if they break you into little pieces....

Second time here for ED. This time I was neglected by the doctor on the unit when I voiced my complaints with constipation. During discharge the doctor left the room and acted unprofessional towards me and my family with changing my discharge status and saying it would take 2-3 hours to do the paperwork. Her previous statement was 30 minutes to an hour, because she could not control her emotions and temper. The rest of the staff is amazing on the unit, but the doctor needs to attend some emotion management. It left a sour taste in my mouth and made me confident in my choice to try a different treatment center. Ps. To the doctor you are wrong, and I am not going to relapse waiting for my new treatment. Thank you for voicing your supportive opinion though.

They help my child and I thank y'all for everything
