I've been hesitant to write this review as I've never written a poor review for someone before, but this experience keeps coming back to me as something I should warn others of. I went to see Jan Johnson for a specific issue with a specific question. Instead she spent the vast majority of our 2 hour session trying to convince me that a plant based diet is unhealthy (despite loads of scientific research) and barely glanced over the question I had specifically come to her about.
She also twisted my words to make it sound like I was a sick and mentally ill patient, where in reality I came to her in good health and fitness (at the beginning of our session she even said "well the good news is, you don't have a lot of health issues). For example: when I said I sometimes took afternoon naps (quick 20 minutes to give myself a short break from working, I even clarified that I am never so tired I must take a nap, it's just a nice thing I like to do sometimes) , she twisted it and said I had lethargy and extreme exhaustion. It's like she wasn't listening to me, just hearing what she wanted to be able to write me off as a sick vegan. And the final kicker at the end was when she recommended I read a pseudoscience book (that cites Wikipedia!) "to educate myself".
She also speculated on why my late father may have died young and then suggested that I might have the same gene mutation that may have contributed to his early death. Despite not having ANY of his medical records or autopsy. I think it was incredibly irresponsible for someone in the medical field to SPECULATE on the matter of death and then to suggest off handedly that I might have that same gene that killed my father.
I am sure Jan doesn't have any malicious intent, but she certainly was the wrong RD for me to see and highly recommend that anyone following a vegetarian or plant based diet NOT to go to her.
