DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY! My daughter suffers from depression and self harm behavior that we have been battling for over a year. After a weeks stay at merrilac upon discharge doctors recommended her being admitted to the intensive outpatient therapy at signature. After 2 phone interviews my daughter was denied access to the program due to the psychologist believing she needed a higher level of care before admittance. After trying to explain that merrilac does not agree with this and they in fact have spent 8 days with her while this idiot Psychiatrist has just read something taken over the phone. I was hoping to get in this intensive program and begin it right away, I took time off from work this stupid a** head has cost me a lot of time and money and at the end of the day denied my daughter the care she needed. Perhaps I would give his assessment more credibility if he actually spoke to my daughter in person as merrilac did. Merrilac at this time still doesn't understand why she was not admitted which tells me one thing it's a probly a blessing she didn't attend this facility. The ironic thing is that wall using while this Psychiatry asst believed that she had a higher level of care this idiot has in fact delayed care for my daughter and put me in a very difficult position. The level of care that they're telling me to get is not available. That's right they told me merrilac doesn't offer that program so this psychologist is telling me to do something that doesn't exist in order to get my daughter In the intensive outpatient program. There is no other way to describe this person other than an idiot that doesn't need a license to practice mental health therapy. I would take this is as advice to stay well away from this place we all know that children's mental health is very difficult, Probly better to find a different facility that actually cares.

I give this facility a 0 out of 5, but I guess I have to give a rating. The absolute worst possible rehabilitation center I have seen. The nurses and especially the psychiatrist on duty are very careless with patient's problems. They are very rude, and made it about business. If you have good insurance they'll try to keep you in there as long as they possibly can to make money. Im not sure how the psychiatrist has a job or license still.

Worst staff for a hospital I have ever encountered even with my wife's signed consent they refused to give me information.

This is not a detox center. Is a mental institution. I don't recommend this place at all. I'm about to put law suit for liying and motivation me to enroll in the program. I'm a alcoholic. It feels like a jail. Please don't go there for detox. Staff was great. But the environment was not appropriate for a detox environment. Not recommended at all.

Dr. Barash put me here because he felt like he could not control me anymore. It was jail. A year later when I requested my records formally, they broke the law when they did not fulfill my request in the 30 days that they are REQUIRED to do so unless they get an extension. After 34 days they sent a letter saying they needed more time (they sent it at the 34 day mark, I did not receive it tell well after) . But they sent it AFTER the 30 days. When I tried to contact the person in charge of these things I was given the run around. So many lies. Once I threatened to bring my lawyer into the mix FOR BREAKING FEDERAL LAWS I was immediately reached out to and given my papers (The papers were proof that they basically did nothing but hold me captive). There excuse was the dr was on vacation. For 40+ days? mmmhhh

I have recently stayed at this facility. For the most part this is a good facility. As with any place there are issues that come up now and then. No place is perfect and not all people are perfect. Dr. Barash is very direct in his manner of speaking. Some people don't like it when someone one will call you on how you are messing up. I personally think Dr. Barash is one of the best doctors I have had in my life. I like straight talk and hate it when doctors beat around the bush.. If I am messing up. Tell me I'm messing up.

Katie Hindman

Terrible, do NOT bring your loved ones here. The staff does not communicate with you about what is going on, phone calls are never returned, they don't have enough staff to deliver the services they offer. This is a disgrace of a facility.

These places are quack centers. Imagine working a job where none of your patients complaints mean anything to any one and the bills are paid by companies that exist because you charge so much

Eric Parsons

This place is a waste of time. The doctors don't want to help but are quick to charge your insurance and copay. This is not the place to be if you need help. If I could give negative stars I would. VERY HORRIBLE

Dennis Harris

NO TIME FOR PAYIENTS. I went in for an assessment. I left after an hour and 10 mins of being told they would be right with me. They told me to come in Thurs at 5pm. I called because I was running 10 mins late. They told me to come in Monday. I got there 30 mins early, only to be turned away again. This time was because they only had one councillor and she could not see more than 3 people a day. I was in crisis. They did not seem to care at all !!!!

Brad Dooley

Truly blessed to have had there service that's my opinion..

Kathy Mitchell

This is a wonderful place to start healing. Great psychiatrists, nurses and staff.

When I went there, I was forced to wait for more than 24 hours until a doctor saw me, and then they lied to my face about it, telling me I was wrong. But I know what time I checked myself in. They also mixed me up with another patient, disclosing our medical information to each other by accident, very unprofessional. Experienced abuse from one the nurses, told patient advocacy, but nothing ever happened and the guy still has his job there. You do NOT want to be locked in there with this guy, I was terrified. He works the night shift, so he'll be checking in on you while you are most vulnerable, while you are sleeping. This place is extremely boring, groups are useless and a total waste of time, the doctors lie, and they let abusive nurses work there. This was the worst care I have ever received in my life, after care was almost non existent, had to beg for help, the staff was always too busy. The doctor they set me up with for after was the worst doctor I've ever seen. I wouldn't recommend this tire fire to anyone. This is where you send people to get them out of your hair, but don't fool yourself for a moment thinking you are helping them get the help they need. Go to Shawnee Mission, they are way way better, they will actually help you, avoid Signature at all costs.

Has helped my wife immensely.

When I took my loved one for an assessment, I was impressed. The lobby was quiet and almost serene. We walked in and immediately felt at ease. Her first session was not great. The facilitator for her very first intensive outpatient session completely ignored her in a room of 4 other people. How could she not have seen her? These young people are anxious and neurotic enough than to take being ignored - WHILE TRYING TO GET HELP! That facilitator has no idea what it took for me to get her to agree to get help? I called and left a message, the very next day, hoping that the facilitator would call me back or praying that anyone would call me back. Just today, my daughter confirmed that she needs help, but that IOP at Signature Behavioral Health may not meet her needs and I agree. I called and left another message today and still did not get a return phone call. It does not matter because today's phone call was to let them know we will seek other options. I am an Administrative Nurse, myself, and I understand how to advocate for a patient, but I did not get an opportunity to do that, as no one has yet to call me back. Love the atmosphere (newer building), but the customer service is not good!!!!!

I recently spent four days in this Hospital, and suffice it to say my experience was worse than I could have imagined it would be. For the purpose of this review I will only talk about facts and not my opinions. During my 4-day stay I saw two adults one female and one male who were fed next to nothing on several occasions, despite not being on a diet plan and having ordered a much more extensive meal the day before for the day in question. The night before I left AMA a woman sitting next to me was fed 10 grapes and a small bowl of lentil beans for her dinner, a grown woman who was not on a diet plan and had no known food allergies, who had ordered a larger meal on the menu. I watched another guy get fed practically nothing for his first three meals there as well. It seems to me that that's extreme negligence, and it's also worth noting that the meals are provided by North Kansas City Hospital. Also during that stay I witnessed staff being rude to people who are there to recover from depression and anxiety and are there voluntarily, meaning not by court order. The defining event which caused me to leave against medical advice was a staff mocking me in front of all of the other patients in the hospital, twice over my request for a cigarette break. Cigarette breaks are highly regulated here, keep in mind these are adults who are there voluntarily trying to get over depression and anxiety, and get to spend very little time outside in the sun or doing the one thing they know of that relaxes them, which is smoking. I also witnessed the staff using smoking breaks as a threat against you if they find you're misbehaving. And for the record I'm a very well mannered person , when I say a nurse was mocking me I mean she was doing it without cause. I would recommend taking your friend or loved one to another facility, one with perhaps a higher star rating and better reviews. This place only treats you like a prisoner with no rights. The medical staff draw blood without even telling you what it's for or the results of it later even if you ask, the psychiatrist sees you for maybe five minutes a day and doesn't tell you anything they would like to see you accomplish, doesn't tell you anything at all, it wasn't until I was on my way out the door after signing myself out that I even saw a diagnosis. The residents are afraid of telling the doctor how they feel because they're afraid he will think they need more time in there because they said something negative. They scheduled my family meeting without so much as talking to me about it, I never heard anything about my progress or expectations, I never heard anything about the possible lengths of my stay or anything else you might want to know when being held in a place like this. When I first arrived I was brought in from North Kansas City Hospital via an underground tunnel , when I arrived in the facility they took my belongings and told me my room number, and as I stood there waiting to be given more information one of them looked at me and asked if they could help me with anything else. They never told me what time meals were, when I'd be able to take a shower, what time groups were, didn't even so much as point me in the direction of my room. There was no schedule provided to us, nothing posted on the wall about what time things were supposed to happen, and not even any patient rights posters on a bulletin board anywhere. They left me standing there like a fool who was supposed to know what I was doing in their facility when I first arrived and I heard several stories from other patients about their arrivals going the same way. I found the facility and the staff to be of absolutely no help at all, the only help I got in learning to control my feelings and emotions and get myself together came from other patients and a couple of the groups I attended while there. And regarding groups most of them are Alcoholics Anonymous groups while most of the patients are there for suicidal ideations or attempts. I strongly recommend finding an alternate facility and avoiding this place.

The staff were all very kind and my overall experience was very good. The doctors were professional and helpful at finding solutions. I felt safe at signature and would recommend it to anyone in crisis.

Kathleen Hunt

The assessment team was kind. Beyond that absolute worst outpatient, or impatient for that matter, 'treatment' or lack there of I have ever received. Their PHP is a complete joke and waste of time. There were 19 people in my group. On the first day we did a philosophy exursice Alligator River (don't get me wrong I like a good moral quandary in the right setting with well educated, mentally stable peope, this was NOT the time or setting for this.) It created a very tense environment which does not aid in anyone's recovery process, I chose to discharge myself from the program after the Psychiatric Nurse would not presricbe me a much needed mood stablizer. The RN who handles discharging took a full day to call me back despite me calling 4 or 5 times that day and twice more the day she finally returned my call, told me that they didn't take my insurance anyway ( I asked why because they told me when I had my assessment that they absolutely did take my insurance) she then told me that was above her pay grade and not her problem. Five hours a day, five days a week of tense counterproductive (wildly unorthodox) therapy with no medications to balance my bipolar disorder? No thank you. I suggest Shawnee Mission IOP if you are struggling in the Kanas City area. These people are careless with their patients, seemed annoyed they even have to interact with you. I suggest the NR work in a different setting than mental health care.

My son was removed from the facility when he should have been on a 96 hour hold. He was taken there by the facility to McDonalds and dropped off without any one to care for him. That is considered ABANDONMENT OF A PATIENT. I expected him to receive care as he was immediately post suicide attempt.

This is without a doubt the best inpatient unit I’ve been too in KC. Don’t always believe all the negativity u read on here bc you’ve got to remember that people on here are also not always in their right mind. This place saved my life & so did Dr. Barash!! No he isn’t going to sugarcoat things for you but I believe he truly cares abt every person he sees. There is NOBODY else I want to treat me when I’m in need!! Also, keep in mind that Signature is still pretty new (less than 10yrs old) so it’s been working out all the new kid on the block kinks. Hands down best trauma program with Valor & staff really do care!

s k

This was nothing but a waste of my time and money. These people have no idea how to help someone with depression.

Miranda Buchanan

The group activities were okay. I was there for a week in 2015. The therapist suck, the doctors suck, Dr.Barash doesn't seem to care and is very boring and monotone. The group therapist teachers talked to us/treat us like we were young children. They didn't have very good control over the drug addicts that came in, letting them freak out for a good 5-10 minutes before stepping in. The nurses or tech people were really weird. You leave the place feeling worse than before.

Tee Adams

Dr. Barash is rude, condescending and judgemental. He doesn't see patients as patient's but instead sees them as minions beneath him and under his control. He doesn't talk to you, he talks at you. He threatens you with a 96 hour hold if you say anything negative about him or the facilities and power trips hard core. He may be one of the top in his field for medications but his bedside mannerisms make him the worst Dr that I have ever seen. While hospitalized under his care his nurses would tell patients to not make him mad as he takes his anger out on them and that they are afraid of him. They would tell us he is bipolar and will change his mind about things within a few hours, which he inevitably did with me after I asked for a lawyer. Several of the patients there as well as myself felt that he made our conditions worse and not better as he treats mental illness as a crime not a disease. They do 15 minute checks where a grown man opens your rooms door and looks in. They don't knock even when asked too. If you're changing then oh well. I was changing and one of the techs "checked in" and stood there looking my body up and down. He didn't say sorry and he stood there for more than the usual 20 seconds. He watched me while I dressed myself. The same tech checked in while i was taking my outer shirt off in bed and my tank top came up exposing my breasts and he stood there watching while I fixed it. Many patients complained because this happened to them too but to no avail. While there techs told us we were lucky we were allowed to eat as though we were some sort of criminals. Another girl complained that her bed hurt her back and the tech told her if she didn't like it she shouldn't have tried to kill herself. I was told beggars can't be choosers when I asked for a pillow. There were about 3 people there that actually cared and treated us like human beings otherwise we were told to stop bothering the nurses and techs. This place makes things worse, not better.

If you've ever been in a facility like this one, you probably know that at some point a discussion will spring up wherein everyone compares it to other places they've been to. When I was at Signature (in early 2016), we all agreed that it was the best we'd been to. Now, I did not like Dr. Barash, and I did not go here of my own volition (transfer from a hospital after I'd more or less recovered from suicide). But the nurses and other staff were very kind. The regimented schedule was really good for me. The food was honestly quite decent and there were snacks between meals for those who wanted them. I don't smoke, but I took advantage of the breaks to sit outside and soak up some sun. And whenever we had free time, there were tons of adult coloring pages, games, etc. for us to relax. I wouldn't exactly call it a good time, but for what it is, this is a nice place. Also, there was a girl there who was generally referred to as "a lifer." She was, sadly, very delusional/paranoid and wouldn't always take her meds, or even eat for that matter. But everyone was so nice and gentle with her. She was given the option to take her meds crushed up, in Gatorade, which was the only way she would swallow them. When she wandered the halls, she was gently persuaded to come to sessions, rather than being forced. I was just really impressed with how they treated a difficult patient that might just be over-sedated or restrained somewhere else.

Signature in Liberty MO is holding either my daughter alive or she has passed. They will not give any info to her mother. Her vehicle is in the parking lot and her cell phone has now stopped dinging on Google. I get supposedly they give a code so patients can give to their family an friends but if she is either in a coma or not even alive how can she contact anyone. My son went there several days ago an they through him out by security. He is beside himself with worry about his sister. This has been going on since Wednesday of February 20 2019. The Liberty Police Dept confirmed she was there, but no other info was provided. I do not need to know her diagnosis I just need confirmation that she is alive and not passed away or been hurt by someone. These stupid so called laws that our stupid american government has installed on all americans his absolutely crazy. My daughter is ill she has a severe medical condition that has no cure and now has mental illness where she cannot move forward with her life. I hope none of these employees of Signature ever have to go through this ever in their lifetime because this is causing me great harm and worry. I am disabled and cannot even get there even if something has happened. There is no regard from this facility of human life and what others in her family and friends are going through because of this stupid rule they have put into place. I need help and answers and cannot get any.

My father was sent here for who knows what reason since he has Parkinson's dementia. We was asked to come have a family meeting which case he was brought in the room with us which with dementia isnt a good idea cause were talking about stuff he shouldn't hear cause with upset him and make him more confused. The staff had no idea what was going on and had to revert to his file to even know. Then when his insurance was up they called and gave us an hour to pick him up which some nursing homes take days to get into and said someone had to pick him up which hello pretty sure that illegal to force him put in his condition. Then the next morning they give him a paper of all the families numbers and let him call us at 5am multiple times cause he is confused and has dementia. This place is very unprofessional and from the reviews I'm seeing here it needs to be shut down or restructured cause this is ridiculous for a hospital to be making such dumb decisions with people with mental health problems. DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILY TO THIS PLACE.!!

Worse place to go, I was threaten with a 96 hour holding and on top of that a month holding because I told the head nurse that dr.brash was rude and sent me into a panic attack. After that I had to be nice to that jack wagon. And the last time I talk to him he look at me and ask me how much I was paying him to leave, and after I looked at him stunned he said it was a joke and walk out laughing. Rude, doesn't care, it's Like a prison, you get outside breaks for 15 mins then your inside for the rest of the day, if you stay in your room you stay there longer! Oh yeah and I was diagnose and put on psychic drugs but thing is i was never talk to about being put on these or that they had diagnose me, he told me it was for my headache Never go here save your self the trouble

leeann van

Stayed here for 10 days back in February of this year. For the most part the stay was okay. The group sessions were alright and the nurses/techs were either neutral or nice. The food was a little above average. Unlike most people I never had problems with Dr. Brash and I was happy to be diagnosed so quickly after I took my test (although the social worker told me instead of dr. Barash).

Janene Perillo

The nurses over medicated me. Not just me but others. They almost killed my roommate by giving her the wrong medication. This was at there Liberty location.

Mike Goodyear

After a week of being scared and dealing with a lot of anxiety and depression I saw out the help of this hospital if you can call it that!! I received more help from the other inpatients than the doctors or nurses. I was stuck in a room with a very violent and confrontational person as a room mate, who add to my anxiety tenfold. I asked to have a room change many times a was told no because the had too many people coming in. I was only one person and many were being discharged that day why I couldn't get their rooms I still don't know.. I did receive some help from the groups there but I found I was treating myself with the help of others in the program. Signature is not the place they appear to be and mislead me into a 7 day evaluation which I was ready to leave by day two. I can go on and on about the horrible things that happened but I'm not an author and I'm not looking to write a book. Stay away if possible look at all your options before considering signature..

I have been in the IOP and it's saving my life. Special thanks to Robin! thanks for caring.

This place saved my life. The staff is amazing. They cared about me, when I didn't care about myself. The nursing staff and tech staff are always there when you need them. The team of Psychiatrist that work at this facility are wonderful. You see the doc everyday, and they are invested in your care and making you better. I was hospitalized here twice this year because I was having suicidal thoughts and idealizations. Both times they took excellent care of me, and I left the facility in a better place mentally. If I ever have to be hospitalized again, this is the only place I will go.

Amy W

Extremely disappointed in the "care" my son who was in crisis recieved. Instead of helping him they had him arrested for property damage and he was released to police while on a suicide hold because he was too difficult. DO NOT try to get care here. Anywhere has to be better.

Horrible! No care at all. All they care about is making money. No after care follow up. Suicidal young man. Sent him home with no care and no records. Prescription for 30 days of meds. Dr they said to call, 50 miles away. them had no idea who he was. Are you kidding? No dr will see him with out records. No dr in town will make an appointment until July. What a joke. Suicidal and no meds. Do not go here!! He didn’t even see a dr. Just a DO. All about money . Social service lady a total joke. Wouldn’t let a family make an appointment to work with their schedule. Are you kidding? Didn’t even know his name. This is just another example of taking advantage of people that need care. Unbelievable. Run do not walk away from here. So sad that a place that has all the tools to make a difference... is just another scam to make money. Heartbreaking.
