REVIEWS OF Research Psychiatric Center IN Kansas

The last time my family member was in Research they didn't request the next seven days from insurance and discharged the patient less than 30 hours after the child hurt themselves in the care of this hospital. They did very little for this child other than dispense meds. They didn't update his chart after he hurt himself on their watch, they did very little to help him learn coping skills.

Absolutely horrible experience! Let’s set aside the reason my wife had to go there. I won’t even talk about their lack of compassion for her circumstance. She was deemed not a threat to herself or others and was told she would be released. When I got there to pick her up they kept telling me they didn’t have any info or discharge papers. I asked to speak with the supervisor. They assured me she was on her way. That conversation happened at 7:15pm. It is now 9:10pm and no one has come out to speak with me. I called and asked to speak with her and they told me she was in a meeting and would call me back. That was a lie. How can you build trust with your patients when you lie to them and their spouses? I’m reading their vision statement in the lobby about being the “premier healthcare destination”. What a joke. They can’t even have a conversation with me, let alone explain why they will not release my wife in a timely fashion.

I come here habitually for treatment, very warming staff.

The nurses are held responsible for doing laundry as it is locked and only they can access it. $200 of my clothes in the laundry went missing and it's been over a month now since I've been released and not a single person has called me back after multiple calls and messages being left. Absolute crap that they can't even take responsibility or have the decency to call me back. Now all of my pjs pants and sweat pants and 6 pairs of panties all from VS are gone, and I have nothing now. They lost my only pants and I am stuck with NOTHING. Thank you a**holes. Release someone from your PSYCHIATRIC unit with all of their clothes they owned stolen.... as if that's not stressful and depressing when you can't afford new ones.

I spent a week in The Journey unit. This is a specialised program for patients with PTSD or trauma history within Research. All the nurses, techs, and doctors I encountered were very compassionate. Staff went above and beyond to help us feel more comfortable. For example giving extra blankets or towels and allowing us to shower in the handicap shower as opposed to the in-room showers which were fairly cold, small, and ineffective. We were seen daily by the psychiatrist and therapist. My only upset was that you really only saw the therapist through group therapy. It was incredibly difficult to get individual therapy though they tell you you will be seen individually 3 times per week. Overall, I was admitted in a very unstable place and was discharged with my meds straightened out and with a stable mind.

My older sister was admitted into this hospital for about two weeks, missing a Holiday together with us when our family actually came to town. We often came to visit her and brought her some clothes, which were lost and overheard a nurse (when the little kids were walking) calling them "Little ankle biters" rudely under her breathe? Upon coming home, she said this place was more of a prison than it was a help center. I surely, wouldn't recommend sending anyone here for help.

Let me start off by saying this review is only addressing In-patient services. Do not let your loved ones go here unless it is a last resort. Front desk staff and nurses are uncaring and do not provide the help you need. Incredibly unhelpful and insensitive to any special needs for loved ones. If you can get your loved one into the 'Vine' wing of the center, that is preferable as it was where there was at least some benefit provided. Security and janitorial staff are very pleasant, but they aren't the reason people go to a psychiatric center. Absolutely appalled at loved one's experience here.

Waited 5 hours for my daughter to be released after being told they were getting her paper work ready, I'll check for you on and on. I finally said I wanted her up front now so they got the supervisor to talk to me. She flat out told me she wasn't being released and I couldn't see her because it was pasted visiting hours. Nice customer relations!!!!!! Now I've been on hold for 20 minutes and no one has picked up the recording!!!!!! I hope the administrator of the hospital sees this message and takes serious notice. Our loved ones are there to be helped and after my two experiences I'm not sure that is happening.

My girlfriend went into the er looking for help for outpatient care services. Made her inpatient and made her not feel safe. I left for 1 hour and come back to sit with her in the er till they transfered her. The head charge nurse (i think wendy is the name) popped off attitude to me when i was wondering how much longer till i could go back to be with her after sitting in the waiting room for 2 hours. She cursed me out and said she doesnt have time to argue with me when i was only trying to tell her what the previous shift charge nurse told me. She told me my girlfriend was sleeping and wont let me back there. Then 5 seconds later, she told me that my girlfriend is no longer on the property. No longer on the premises. My girlfriend called me 2 hours later after that inccident, said that she was actually there the entire time. This place needs new staff.

I will never recommend this place to anyone. Completely incompetent staff, rude receptionists and the discharge process and trying to schedule a follow up were ridiculous and asinine. I’ve missed over a month of work now because they are too stupid to file paperwork correctly and when I try to call to get it fixed I get 8 different voicemails with no call back.

My sister voluntarily came here for help and was treated horribly. Not only that but attempts were made on several occasions to call and speak with her and not even so much as an operator answers the phone. Prepare to have an official complaint filed against this hospital

Terrifying, but exactly what I needed at the precise moment I needed it. Excellent staff. I would recommend it for those in need. Don't forget to speak up and ask for help. I would return when needed.

These places are quack centers. Imagine working a job where none of your patients complaints mean anything to anyone and the bills are paid by companies that exist because you charge so much

vicki jacobs

My daughter gets the basic care needed, rhat's all.facility not very clean, the teens (patients) argue and fight

Lydia Gunn

I had been here twice and was treated well.

Horrible sleeping conditions & lack of good nutrition, welcome back to you high school lunches. They are super strict & ended up making my gf feel worse by the end of the ordeal. Avoid this place at all costs.

I give research 5 stars...not because i "love" them, but for their service. (Can you really love a psych hospital?) Even though they are understaffed, they do everything they can to help each patient through the crisis that took them there. The PHP staff was amazing. Their goal is to help you live, not just survive.

Sandra Weber

Absolute incompetent staff on the phone-lines. Calling from overseas and when ask for our contact number we got several times hung up on. It took several tries to be able to talk to our relative and when the staff can't pronounce the name of the relative it was hung up on us as well instead of asked if we can repeat or spell the name. Absolutely not the standard we are used to in Europe.

After searching for MONTHS for a facility that would work with my 12 year old daughter, I had become hesitant and skeptical of the process. Every place I called and took her to would refer us to someone else because she didn't meet certain "criteria". It was a frustrating time for our entire family and unbelievable to us how difficult it was to get help for our child. I started calling everywhere and ANYWHERE that could possibly be an option. After contacting Research Psychiatric Center (Adolescent Program) and leaving a message for Kristin, I received a call back the next day. She listened to everything I had to say and gave us hope. She got my daughter in the next morning for an assessment where, yet again, we encountered an amazing staff member names Rebecca. She assessed my daughter, listening to both her and I with patience and sincerity. My daughter begins the outpatient program tomorrow and if the treatment she has received so far is any indication of the future treatment, I will be extremely satisfied.

My son was admitted there last week because he was feeling suicidal, so these idiots gave him two conflicting medications which taken together caused a severe adverse reaction! He then hit two people, ended up in jail and is now facing 6 months for assault charges! Needless to say, a lawsuit shall follow! Please do not send your loved ones here...

Zero stars. I hated this place. I was going through a panic attack and they took me to get an MRI!!! They didn't let my mother stay with me, very terrible living conditions, horrible headache, ZERO TREAMENT except putting me on a medication that has taken me 8 years to get off of, and I'm STILL not off of it. I had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and still get scared of this place. I will never recommend it to ANYONE.

Mr L

This hospital is so bad that doctors and physicians groups resigned from there and refer their patients to other facilities. Please go elsewhere if you or someone you know needs help. Called to see how to file a formal complaint and was told that there wasn't a formal procedure. Here's where you can file a complaint about treatment at this facility. 1. Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Attn: Bureau of Hospital Standards, P. O. Box 570, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0570. 2. The Joint Commision, Attn: Office of Quality and Patient Safety, One Renaissance Boulevard, Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181

Relatively better than other psychiatric hospitals, but I was there for 8 days. 5 days longer than planned. I was kept off my prescribed medication for a week, went through minor withdrawals, and we were never allowed outside. They kept saying maybe tomorrow. Besides that, the staff in general are caring, I loved the social workers, and there was an awkward moment when I encountered my friends ex, who happened to be training there.

Brian Miller

This is one of the best psychiatric hospitals I've been to. My last two times I've been on the vine unit. The program on vine is more intense than on the regular adult unit. You go to groups all day and it is a requirement to be on the unit. There are times in between groups that you can nap or chill out. I personally love the intensive program on the vine unit. You learn dbt skills and other important things like grieving and how to deal with loss. The foods pretty decent too.

Jada Jackson

Helped me great my life back on track. I'm truly blessed to have been admitted.

Tina Marmon

My husband is here. They have made great efforts with me getting the information i need. Though my kids were not able to visit an employee printed word searchers for them while another employee offered to buy them a snack while i saw my husband. It was a much better experience than i had anticipated

WARNING: This place conducts abusive practices against juveniles. Your kid may be put in solitary confinement w/o your knowledge for prolonged periods of time & staff instructed to offer no communication whatsoever for wks at a time. They have inside terms for these inhumane "exercises". Plz don't believe the hype. Find out what RPC really does to its unwilling in-patients! All protected under the guise they are "Psychiatric professionals". Contact me if you'd like names of current/former/retired staff involved. This is not an isolated incident. Never lock your child behind closed doors where you cannot contact them 24/7.

Yes I got the help I needed, but their after care is lacking I was released with no where to go

My sister was admitted on A Wednesday evening and released Monday morning. She was not teady to be released and they just let her. My sister had a plan to killherself and needed help.

Laura O'Kelly

Poor Staff, does not let patients have full 1 hour visits, techs, security plays around with bringing them for their only visit of the day...guests, family are advised it'll be a full hour but the staff is completely disorganised and not on time, and the girl tech with braided hair is obnoxious during the visits. Throughly disgusted with the non compassion your poir staff has for the people you're supposed to be caring for and helping get better....

Kelly Magers

These people really do want you to get better! Outstanding "VINE" program!

Arkini Spenelli

They treat you like a prisoner instead of a patient.

Heather Roberts

This place is a JOKE. My ex sister in law was taken here by the KCPD due to her threatening to kill herself and my nephew. They refused to admit her and turned her loose. Another time my dad was taken here and all they did was keep him so medicated he didn't remember anything after he was released. This place is absolutely horrible and needs to be shut down.

krysten stapleton

If I could rate a zero star I would! They couldn't even have an actual dr in person see some of there patients my dr was in Georgia talking with me through a webcam. They dope you up with meds then when your too tired from the meds to go to groups the nurses inform your dr that all your doing is being depressed and the dr wont discharge you, because apparently its normal not to be depressed when your away from your family and kids!

Jordan Johnson

I was admitted in 2016 to the adolescent unit for suicidal ideation. At the time, they were renovating the unit they kept adolescents on so we were moved to the top floor on the building. Top floor. In the room I was put in, there was a circle scratched in the window as if somebody was trying to escape. The first night was decent, until it was time to go to sleep. Personally, I struggled with speaking up for myself and voicing my opinion. Plus I was a generally too nice of a person. A nurse came in and asked if I wanted to light off and I simply said something along the lines of "It doesn't matter." in a polite manner. She then pressed with an irritated tone "Are you going to bed?" and before I could continue saying yes, she turned off the light. In the middle of the night, I got a roommate. Extremely rude and unhygienic. I talked to the nurses about how she left our bathroom a complete mess; they did nothing. She was in there for a drug addiction and had a complete attitude problem. The only genuine thing I can say that was good about this place was the food. For showers, they gave us 4-5 hand towels. They also separated the boys in one hall and girls in the other; which is entirely understandable and fair; but they put people who identified as transgender in the same hall as boys regardless if they were Male to Female or Female to Male. I constantly felt invalidated and told that other people have it worse. A girl there once passed out because she had a condition where she needed heart surgery. Staff eventually got her to wake up. They didn't monitor us as well as they promised. A girl threw a tantrum and they gave her a tranquilizer in front girls in the hall. It had to be injected into her butt. The psychiatrist made me uncomfortable and put me on a mood stabilizer without talking to me about side effects. They didn't have any form of ventilation so we often had chapped lips and bloody noses. It was an overall poor treatment. Anybody looking into admitting yourself or a loved one, stay AWAY from Research.

Jasmine Jamaleddin

Ive been calling four times and each time on hold for thirty minutes. This is ridiculous! Trying to get ahold of loved ones and no a damn person can answer the phone!

When I lived in Kansas City, Missouri this was my favorite hospital if I ever needed emergency mental health Crisis stabilization. I'm still recommending it today as KC does not have many psych hosputals to begin with (compared with California) and I think this one is the best. I was born here in the KC area as well.

Wayne Rustenhaven

This place was terrible couldn't the staff never let me know they were going to change my daughter's medication!

Littlegambit Danilae

4 stars, mostly because it's been so long since i was there. I got admitted there when i was 13 years old and I can't really remember much but from what i DO remember, the nurses who assisted me were really nice despite how rude and despondent i was.

Jake Rea

great staff. best place i have been too. truly an amazing experience!!

k wessel

My loved ones treatment at Research was horrible. The staff isnt very kind with patients, the facility is dirty and they kept stringing out billable "treatments" before discharging. I would never want to be in this hospital or allow a family member to be treated in this hospital. If I could give it zero stars i would.

Ted Hall

My wife has been on the unit here several times. They have down very well for her, trying different treatments. I highly recommend them, and they are our preferred mental health hospital at this time.
