Dr. Davila and Awakenings have been a great help to my family.

Carson Williams

Doesn't listen, was rude when I asked simple question about getting a new diagnosis because I wasn't sure of my current diagnosis was correct. Had a lack of communication between her, her assistant and me, a very important detail about a new med I was prescribed. Don't recommend her at all

If you are in need of mental health care, or substance abuse help, do yourself a favor and please go see Dr. Davila. I came to be Dr. Davila’s patient because my old doctor up and moved up out of the blue one day at the end of 2017. I was trying to get into a replacement doctor at the end of the year, nobody was accepting new patients, the more places I called, the more panicked I got. I called Dr. Davila’s office and they accepted me right away. They got me in in enough time that I did not run out of the medication that I am literally ill without. I have seen Dr. Davila ever since. I know that some people have stated that she was rude and unfriendly. I think one thing people should keep in mind about her is that, yes she is kind of reserved and to the point, but she genuinely cares about her patients. Another thing I think people miss is that she works with drug addicts a lot, those people don’t always stick around and she likes effort on your part to show her that you’re serious about getting yourself help and investing in yourself before she is just super duper friendly and happy to see you. You stick it out with her, she will be .. she warms up to you, and she will be there to help you. If you genuinely want to feel better and have a better life, Dr. Davila will get you there.. but you have to participate too. She has never judged me or treated me like garbage or made me feel less than because of bad decisions I made in my past like other people in the medical community have. She is always telling me that she’s proud of how far I have come and how much I’ve grown since my first visit with her. And I have come SO far in my life since I became her patient. I have had ups and downs, in life and with her, but she’s always accepted me right where I’m at and she’s always been supportive. Her office support is wonderful, and goes above and beyond. Corrinne takes good care of that office. She’s called to check on me when I seemed out of sorts, has helped me remember my appointments, helped get my insurance straightened out.. they really do care here if you give them a chance. You won’t regret going. I think so many people have this idea of what they think is best for them when their life is in shambles from using drugs and then do not want to follow the treatment plan, get mad and leave a crappy review. If you genuinely want a different life and are tired of things being a mess, go see Dr. Davila and actually take her suggestions and do her treatment plan. She’s constantly learning. She probably doesn’t realize I notice, but she has sticky notes on her wall a lot in her office with dates of various seminars and workshops she attends to make sure she is up to date on the latest treatment methods. She lets you know about various new medications that may be of benefit to you so you can do a Google and educate yourself. No pressure, “this is just information” is what she tells me and I appreciate that about her. I just love Dr. Davila. If you really wanna turn your life around and let some hope back in, go see her .. I promise you won’t regret it. Also, you can’t go in here expecting Benzos because your last doctor had you on Benzos. My last doctor had me on double the dose of my medicine as what I am on now and you know what? I feel better! Dr. Davila is an incredibly smart doctor and she is going to do what her years and years of experience in dealing with mental health/substance abuse tells her. There is a reason so many doctors do not prescribe Xanax and other Benzodiazepines anymore. Not to mention all the regulations that come with prescribing those from our Government, much less to a brand new patient. Dr. Davila is gonna do what she feels like is best for YOU, period. For me, I absolutely love that about her.

I have been a patient on medication for 4 years with Dr. Davila, until today. I called to make an appointment and since she hasn't seen me in the office a year (even though she has been prescribing my meds) she wouldn't see me unless I paid a $300 NEW PATIENT fee!! DO NOT DEPEND on this office to care about your recovery as an individual.

Zac Clark

They are extremely professional and will do everything in their power to help you feel better. The staff is very accomodating and flexible to schedule you in. The TMS improved my depression.

Katie Kelly

Cannot stand this place! They do not engage with their patients they pop you with whatever pills shut you up and get you out. I’ve had full sessions with no words or anything. It’s also 110$ for a 15 minute session that does nothing but get you a refill. Not a fan wish that there were more options in this area. I’ve experienced kind and caring staff but the doctors themselves don’t care.

Sylvester Hannah

They have been extremely helpful. I would strongly recommend going here.

Kevin Lowry

I have been seeing Dr. Davila for some time. She has been very professional and is always willing to do everything she can to help. Would reccomend Awakenings and Dr. Davila to anyone. Great place friendly, polite, professional staff as well.

Natalie Mayer

Super caring staff, and Dr Davila truly cares about my wellbeing. TMS has helped me immensely.

I went to Dr. Davila when I needed to see someone that could mentor me and adjust my meds. I had seen her twice before I called & scheduled another apt with her. Sat in a room by myself for an hr and 20 min while hearing the entire conversation with herself, another patient, and his wife. The walls are paper thin. As soon as she came in she told me she wasn't taking any patients on benzos. I scheduled the apt for a xanax refill because my previous doctor retired & thought since I already saw Maria 2 times and she knew I was on Xanax it'd be easier to go to her. She called me me a "Benzo patient". I take a low grade of xanax as needed. She had ZERO bedside manner, & took someone off of a benzo that's been on them for 13 yrs never with any issues. I'd think a psychiatrist would know that isn't safe. I'll never go back to her again, and HIGHLY suggest none else visits her either. It was a waste of my time, time off work, and money. This lady has zero care for her patients.

Kylo Ren

I worked for them for a week and once I figured out they offer no benefits I had to leave as I need somewhere that provides them, they REFUSED TO PAY ME because I quit! Trashy place

If 0 stars were an option that's exactly what this woman would get. So unbelievably rude and unprofessional. Rather than asking me what I'm capable of doing financially with a treatment plan she just slapped out some ridiculously overpriced outpatient. YET over the phone I told them I could not do that financially. Did they go ahead and tell me that there were other options to better suit my finances? Absolutely! I get in there and after making me pay to see the doctor that did nothing for me I find out, there's one option and I need $460 now. Literally in an hour and a half or I'm not serious about my recovery! This place is a scam if you are seeking help for substance abuse I highly recommend going elsewhere. All this place did was set me back $150 and made me feel like my situation is hopeless. I went in there thinking this was going to be the day everything started to look up and it was the beginning of a new chapter. I was immediately let down and belittled by a supposed highly ranking medical professional. This place just wants your money! This poor excuse for a doctor doesn't care about your recovery just lining her pockets! This woman has no place in the medical field with that horrible judgmental attitude and lack of professionalism. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had, disappointed doesn't even begin to describe the feeling you will leave this establishment with.

Great psychiatrist and returning because on my new insurance plan.

Made an appointment with this office over a week ago based on a clinical recommendation. When we arrived for the appointment we were told we would have to pay the entire out of network rate even though they were indeed still in network, as of today. The office personnel stated that because the intake person did not get the information to begin, they were unable to use our insurance. Seemed very odd. The office staff was extremely unprofessional and told us we were welcome to find a new doctor if we weren’t comfortable paying out of network rates when they were in network. So, obviously we left... I have never left a review on a Dr’s office before because experiences are so different, however this business practice is unacceptable and on the unethical spectrum, as well.

NR Wolf

I have met nothing but positive and caring staff at Dr Davila’s. I would recommend strongly.

Kerry Grabill

I have never been to a more caring and compassionate psychiatrist. The whole office has treated me like family. I have read the negative reviews and Dr. Davila is kind, but she will not bs you. Thankful that she took me in and as far the office staff, they are all one of a kind. Accommodating and always willing to help me as soon as they can. I thank God I finally found a place that did what was best for me. The receptionist is one of a kind and always makes me smile, billing always explains and gets the job done. TMS, IOP, and Ketamine saved my life. The staff and Dr literally saved my life. My wife would pay out of pocket for all of it even though we have insurance to have the man I am again.

Dr Maria Davila has brought together an excellent team of psychiatric and madical professionals. Through there efforts I have become someone I can be proud of. A unique part of the team at Awakenings KC is their TMS or Trancranial Magnetic Stimulation group. Nino and his team provided a safe alternative to medications that provided more benefit than years of psychiatric medicine has offered before. I highly recommend talking with Dr Davila and her team about what they can do for you.

Zachery Davies

went to visit for substance abuse. little did I know just how little Dr. Davila listened to my problem at all and after I waited on her for 90 minutes I got about 6 minutes of her time. I have been on a benzo 6-7 years straight (Ativan, Xanax, klonopin, etc). She says I cannot be prescribed that anymore because I had taken a week long prescription of suboxone for my opiate addiction. It is well known that the 2 types of medications should not be mixed, and should be used with caution. (which I know because Ive been on the medicine for 6+ years). I explained I am no longer taking suboxone therefore I need a refill on my klonpins. she did not take a blood test or any test to verify anything. Her conclusion was to spend about 5-7 minutes with me and say she WOULD NOT do anything for me. She said she COULD, but she WOULD NOT. after paying $150 (with insurance) I was very frustrated that she essentially called me a liar and a simple blood test would show I was not taking suboxone anymore. Then she said "I can only prescribe you suboxone if you enroll in our OUTPATIENT PROGRAM which is 3 days a week for 3 HOURS each visit. I told her that I could not do that with my work schedule (not to mention the fact that the program cost NEARLY $4,000!!!!!!). So it was money issue for this place...they were not looking out for my health or anything else they were looking for me to enroll in their $4000 program in order to get prescribed suboxone. Avoid this place at all costs, there are much better options out there.

Best in town!!

Called them all day starting at 7am trying to find a way to get my script filled before the weekend and got no answer. They totally just disregarded me. You pay 50 dollars per each appointment to spend 10 minutes getting no help. Very poor service!

I was a patient with Dr. Davila, and I never felt like I was treated with the respect and nurturing that I needed. What infuriates me is that I never felt heard. The lack of eye contact, me saying that I desperately needed help, and me constantly mentioning that my meds were making things worse - it never went through her mind to change or stop the meds. I eventually had to hospitalize myself to get things under control, and it turns out that I was being overmedicated combined with a thyroid issue that I didn't know about. She never checked to see if my meds could interact with other meds that I take for a serious pre-existing medical condition that I have, and I would have to do research about what meds I could and could not take. Sadly, the meds that would affect my other meds were the ones she prescribed to me. I was constantly being told to come back in six months despite feeling terrible. For me, that is an ethical concern. It was also very difficult to leave messages and receive a response back in a timely manner as I would have to call multiple times within 1-2 weeks to get a response. After my final visit of waiting in the lobymby for over an hour without being told why or sorry, I knew I had to find a doc that would actually listen to me and show some support. I felt like a number as the staff seemed overwhelmed, as well as Dr. Davila. Of you don't mind getting your meds dispensed as if it's candy, then this is the right fit. I'm honestly surprised that nothing is being done about this place. Listen to your patients who know their mind and body!

I had my initial appointment today and thought that it was very refreshing to be trusted and treated like an equal, and not patronized like you might experience with another psychiatrist. Maria is the Judge Judy of psychiatrists. She won't B.S. you, and that is refreshing. I love authentic people. If you are somebody who enjoys working with efficient and practical medical professionals, this is definitely the place for you. A special shout-out to the 23 year old Thai girl (I didn't catch her name), who normally works intake, but was the acting receptionist for the day. She literally had double the work load. She was the receptionist, and intake. Having never been a receptionist before, she was busy and overwhelmed, but it never affected her attitude and she was extremely courteous and conscientious with her duties. She was clearly a jack-of-all-trades today, and I've never seen anybody type that fast in my life. She's easily at 120 words per minute. I also watched her make sure that the Keurig machine was fully stocked and functional, and then she invited me to try some coffee. They don't serve cheap coffee! It's the good stuff. I went with a Dunkin' Donuts original blend, or is it just "Dunkin'," now? Anyway, what I'm trying to say, is that even the coffee was impressive.

I have been a patient with Dr. Davilla for a long time. She has helped me so much. She took time to get to know me and my situation and I am truly grateful to have her as my Psychiatrist. The office is in a great location. Corinne at the front desk is AMAZING! She is always on top of everything. Helps me everytime I come in for my appointment. She is so caring and you can tell she truly loves her job. I would recommend this office to anyone looking for a comfortable, non judging and caring doctor's office. Thank you to Dr. Davilla and Corinne for helping me change my life for the better. I will always be thankful for you two great, professional women!

My mom did some research and found TMS therapy as an alternative treatment for depression, since medication was only helping slightly. After battling severe depression for years, I decided to do a consultation. After a positive experience with Nino, I decided to move forward with a 7 week treatment plan of TMS therapy. Leaving work every day during the week was not easy, but I made the trek to do my 35 minute sessions. After my treatment was over, I was disappointed because I felt like again, I had tried so hard to get better, but another treatment didn't work. About 3 to 5 months after my treatment plan is when it hit me. I hadn't had a depressive episode in weeks. I actually felt happiness, which was something I hadn't felt in years. I had only faked it to seem normal. I am now the happiest I've been in almost 5 years. I have cut out one medication completely and the other I've cut in half. I still struggle with anxiety, but my depression has improved exponentially. If you are battling severe depression and you have the means and patience to try this treatment, give Nino and his team a try. I am forever grateful to them for helping me get to this point in my life.

I was a patient of Dr. Davila’s as well. The receptionist and staff has always been very helpful and accommodating. They are great and make you feel comfortable during your visit. Although, I have been in the same position as another reviewer with my meds and the Drs. carelessness. I too went multiple months between doctors visits and they would just call in my medications to the pharmacy. It was very confusing at first because I was always used to a monthly visit and then my meds were prescribed, with my previous doctor. There were even a few times that I had run out of my medicine, just to find out that the prescription was filled and waiting at the pharmacy for a couple days when I called the office to try to get in. So would’ve been nice for them to at least give you a call to let you know your medications were called in and ready. The office has a serious issue with communication, or the lack thereof. Now for the biggest issue I had, and reason for the one star rating. Through all of my appointments with Dr. Davilas office I was never once made to feel like my condition, or my concerns about my health, were ever taken seriously. I would sit in the examining room with someone who may have been a nurse, or a graduate student, not really sure what their qualifications were and was never told. They were always just dressed in business casual clothing. Never the typical nurses scrubs. We would review my health between my last appointment and now. Then, for the last three minutes of the appointment, Dr. Davila would make an appearance in order to sign off on everything and push you out the door. She would never take the time to discuss any of my concerns about my health or prescriptions. I was basically talked over before I could get a full sentence out of my mouth and was told how I felt. Like someone else said, don’t expect to get individualized treatment here. But trust me, they definitely care about your money...

Colin Blunt

The worst psychiatrist I’ve ever been to. The staff is aloof, unprofessional and clearly don’t have their act together. Dr. Davila is impersonal, uncaring and doesn’t seem to grasp the purpose of a good psychiatrist, as every time I’ve been there, she’s treated me no better than a barcode to be scanned. After I was mugged a few months ago (and dealing with the subsequent trauma), I told her about it and the most emotion she could muster was “oh I’m so sorry, are your meds okay?”, without any further regard to my psychological well being. Today at my appt, I was in the office for 2 hours and was talked to for less than 5 minutes. Absolute trash. Find another psychiatrist. --------- Update 9/17/18: As of 8/13/18 I am no longer welcome at Awakenings. I was not informed of this of course until a day before my medication runs out, leaving me without meds until I can get in to see another psychiatrist. They did not provide any explanation as to why I am no longer able to be seen here, but I have a feeling it might be related to this review. If that is the case, I can understand, but it is absolutely despicable that they wouldn't have attempted to let me know more than once until now, and furthermore quite contradictory to the fundamental tenants of providing healthcare of any kind. If you've had a good experience here, fine, but if you're looking for someone who cares, once again, find another psychiatrist - literally ANYONE else would be better than this.

Jonny Ventre

My first appointment here today. The front desk receptionist was nice but extremely unorganized and didn’t know what she was doing. After waiting in the lobby for a few minutes someone (don’t know what her qualifications were, she was dressed in casual clothes and looked about 17-18) took me into a room and started asking questions. After the questions, Dr. Davila came in, read through some of my file, asked me about one or two questions, then gave me a number for a different psychiatrist. I was extremely frustrated after the appointment because I was in there for 5 minutes and the doctor didn’t ask me any kind of questions about my symptoms or what I had been dealing with. I had told her my doctor suggested I see psychiatrist for a ADHD and that had no impact on anything she asked me. I wasted my money for a 5 minute appointment just to be given a number for another psychiatrist. Do not see this doctor unless you want to waste your money.

Rebecca Trowbridge

I've read the negative reviews, and have had the opposite experience here. I've only been a patient for a few months, but was made to feel comfortable and cared for from the beginning. As others have said, the desk staff are very kind and accommodating, but the professional staff are as well. My concerns have all been addressed, validated and discussed. I have been given choices and made to feel an active participant in my own care. Maybe some others don't understand this, but Dr. Davila and the other staff are not the primary therapy providers, though this is offered at this location, but rather concerned with stabilization and medication management. This could be better communicated perhaps, but is typical for most or all psychiatric practices in this country today. Dr. Davila has been kind, caring and amazing from the first. I am very pleased with her care.

Bret McNichols

The thin blond lady at front desk is very supportive. She is patient and I mean we called there like 5 times before my son's appointment. She never acted put out, and calmed me from anxiety ie...you don't have to rush just get here safely and not to worry about pre registration I will help you thru it when you get here. Absolutely professional she is a good representation of Dr. Davila. All I can say is wow she must have all kinds of good Karma from the kindness she shows others. Thank you Dr.Davila for saving my son's life and thank you receptionist lady for all you help! Respectfully V McNichols

Isaac Geisinger

They have great support for those who suffer from ADD/ADHD like I do. Very polite and knowledgeable staff. If you have an issue with ADD/ADHD I'd highly recommend Awakenings.
