What a difference it makes to have a doctor who really takes time to understand their patient. Longer appointments make it possible to talk about issues properly. Dr. Wesnar always returns phone calls. He will make every effort to reach the patient by phone if they've called. His office is great. His dogs are delightful. I have benefited greatly under his care.

Katie Organ

Very caring and interested in helping you.

Dr. Wesner has been my mental health care physician for nearly 20 years. He has been tremendous in diagnosing and treating my disorder. His demeanor is very relaxing, and he provides his patients with a comprehensive treatment plan. This includes the use of therapy and counseling, paired with a vast knowledge of any appropriate medication that is needed. He is willing to change or alter the medication treatment plan, whenever the situation dictates it, in order to provide the best care possible for his patients. He even incorporates the use of therapy dogs, which I really appreciate being an animal lover myself. I hope he never retires, because I fear I would have difficulty finding a new doctor with his skills, relaxed manner, and the genuine care he exhibits for his patients.

I have had only good experiences going to Dr. Wesner. He's located very conveniently in the down town ped mall right across from the old capital mall parking garage.

Dr. Wesner is an exceptional physician. He genuinely cares about his patients and truly listens. He is willing to think creatively to treat unique or difficult situations. He doesn't miss a tick... I have never seen another doctor take such meticulous notes. I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to have a doctor that I do not have to explain the same thing over and over at each appointment. He remembers all the details. I really appreciate the care I have recieved from Dr. Wesner. His office manager Bonnie is very good at her job. I love the office dogs!

Ed Rick

Dr. Wesner is a doctor that actually cares and listens. It was good to be treated with professionalism and care, and you can believe he is the best. I've always been able to talk to the doctor and get my problems resolved. Would not consider changing doctors.

I've been a patient for over six years now, and I can honestly say that I've never had an experience with a health provider that's been as rewarding as I've had with Dr. Wesner. Dr. Wesner and his Office Manager, Bonnie (who is awesome), are dedicated to providing the best care possible. They're flexible and accommodating with scheduling, and they're quick to follow up when things like prescription refills/questions arise. I started seeing Dr. Wesner at a very tumultuous time in my life six years ago, and with his guidance I was able to make real progress and heal. I encourage anyone in the area to consider Dr. Wesner for their mental healthcare needs, I know you won't regret it!

Dr. Wesner has helped me greatly over the last 15 years. He does more than just medication management. He also provided psychotherapy, and is well versed in various methods. He always returns phone calls, often staying late in his office. He never rushes appointments, giving his patients the time they need, even if it means staying late into the evening. I would highly recommend him to anyone seeking psychiatric services. M

Dr. Wesner is not a good person. It seems like all he cares about is making money by getting patients hooked on suboxone long term. He wanted to put me on double the dosage to 16mg and keep me at that dose for another year. I wanted to taper down and be completely off in 6 months. He wouldn't even consider keeping me at the same dose of 8mg. I have been on suboxone for over 2 years already. He asked me how could I possibly be stable when two people in my life have died in the last 90 days. Extremely rude and hurtful! I will not be going to Dr. Wesner anymore.

Debra Woodhouse

A very knowledgeable and compassionate doctor. Treats the whole patient, delves into all the areas of your health to aid your treatment.

I recently moved from Chicago to Iowa and needed to establish myself with a new psychiatrist. I came across Dr. Wesner in Iowa City and decided to make an appointment with him. I just had my first appointment and really enjoyed talking to Dr. Wesner - he took the time to listen to me and understand my concerns and my background. We were able to develop a plan together that works for me. Also, his dogs and his receptionist are very friendly and helped make for a relaxed atmosphere.

I have been a patient of Dr. Robert Wesner for a very long time. I quickly found out that he values me as a human being rather than "just another patient". It is important to him that he really knows me. He always takes time to ask about my son, my relationships, my job and my over-all general well being. He shares with me his own stories as they pertain to what we are discussing which makes me feel like he really understands where I am coming from. He doesn't just prescribe medicine and push you out the door. He really listens, responds appropriately, is compassionate and understanding, displays empathy and respect all in a very comfortable and relaxed setting. He helps me set goals which gives me a stake in my recovery. I credit Dr. Wesner with saving my life and I am so thankful that he is part of my life.

Dr. Wesner has been working with us for over 20 years in treating my husband for numerous mental health issues. He is always available through appointments & phone calls to help us optimize treatment options to gain the highest quality of life while navigating the murky waters of depression & anxiety. He provides insights into behavior changes & looks at the broader spectrum of how current life events affect my husband as well as the family. I would not hesitate, nor have I, to recommend Dr. Wesner to friends & family. I have always felt that he wants what is best for us as much as we do.

San Diego Sigil

Dr. Wesner is not only an exceptional physician, but a compassionate man. He listens. He understands. He respects you. He helps you. He is your advocate. There is a reason local Pharmacists know him. If you feel labeled or experience bias, he takes care of it. Dr. Wesner saved my life. That is a fact.

I really enjoy being able to meet with Dr. Wesner once every couple of months. I initially began meeting with him during a time when I was experiencing severe social anxiety, so much so that it was preventing me from attending classes. He was very welcoming with me from the start; my first impression of him was as a compassionate friend that was willing to actively work with me to improve upon my problems. When speaking with him you're able to tell that he genuinely wants to help you get to where you want to be.

I have a neurological condition called Post Chemotherapy Cognitive Impairment, resulting from a bone marrow transplant I had many years ago. The onset of chemo brain symptoms was gradual, and exponentially and adversely affected my personal, social, and professional life. This caused me increasing distress and anxiety, making daily functioning really hard. Dr. Wesner guided me through methods for addressing these symptoms, thorough interviews, suggestions, arranging for cognitive functioning tests. He is straight shooting, really hears what I am saying, and gives me excellent insights. I never feel rushed. I appreciate his professionalism. He's good and has awesome dogs!
