REVIEWS OF Psychiatric Associates IN Iowa

I will never go back, Kim is rude and stuck up. She acts like you are wasting her time and looks down upon you, instead of what she is suppose to do.. be encouraging, supportive, uplifting. She is clearly in the wrong career path!

Kofi Opam

I came here for ADHD testing in September 2018. The provider I saw (Dr O'Rourke) is fantastic. The staff is not. They mishandled my appointment times on several different occasions, and were incredibly rude about rescheduling. Once again: this was a mistake *they* made. They have also mishandled correspondence from my insurance company, billing me incorrectly for payments that had already been settled. They need to do some sort of office-wide re-training of the staff. Two stars because Dr O'Rourke saved my experience.

Chandler Horst

Lauren Mullins

Will charge their clients (people with mental illness) $90 for missing an appt and $25 for canceling/changing appt a minute shorter than 24 hours. Clients with anxiety, ADD, etc. They should be ashamed.

The best thing about this place is that they have multiple staff to help with scheduling but I'm beginning to understand why availability was never an issue. I stuck it out with Cynthia for several months and every (yes, every) single time, she was late. Kept me in the waiting area past our appointment time for 20 minutes on average, I was convinced she was napping in her office. That alone should have been enough to make a person leave but I kept trying... There wasn't much help past her throwing standard book knowledge at me and often forgetting the things we had discussed more than once. Now, having left and been to other counselors in Iowa City, I will never return. There's so much better and more professional out there! Save yourself the hassle!

Erik Anderson

Psychiatric Associates seems great upfront, but they screw you over as hard as they can. I went in for ADD testing, was told it was going to be relatively cheap, and then once I was done they told me it cost 3x more than I was originally told, and then had the audacity to tell me that they never told me the initial price. Then, I requested the notes from the consultation to be released to me, and they have been completely unresponsive and not giving me what I'm asking for. They keep coming up with excuses. Do not go to Psychiatric Associates. Absolutely disgusted with my experience here.

Friendly front staff and great proffessional services

Scott Knapp

Terrible experience. No calls back, communication errors made that left me without care.

Like a few Dr / counselors. .. But not cool they won't give you your own records as you are standing there having a panic attack and still refuse

Autumn Schuman

Every single member of the staff is wonderful. The environment is not at all like a hospital--the waiting area is modern but warm, they have a wide variety of free beverages (in the form of those single-serve cups you pop into the machine), never once has the office staff harassed or shamed me about my bill (or my arriving strangely early). They had all learned my name or at very least who I was seeing by my third visit. As for the actual appointment--they are always prompt, considerate and prepared. I see Ann monthly and she always remembers anecdotes I've shared before. Ann is not a therapist; her job is to know my symptoms and treat them--she likes to know her patients and treat us! I've also seen Dana (although briefly due to schedule issues) and she was wonderful. She spent way longer talking with me than she needed to and, again, that's not her job. These doctors go above and beyond. I have to share that, as a college student, I was initially off put by the idea of seeing a therapist who was enthusiastic about art therapy and who frequently worked with children. Gave it a try and by my third visit with Penny I felt so understood that when something significant happened in my life my first thought was "I can't wait to tell Penny!!" Whomever you are and whatever problems you may be dealing with, this is the place for you. (Especially in this area, considering that they provide all services with ten times the skill and half the price of other area centers.)

This rating has nothing to do with the I providers saw. This rating is of the unprofessional and petty office staff.

They never return your phone calls. You have to call 6 times or more a day to talk to anyone. Because of no return phone, left me with out care or meds.

The staff at Psychiatric Associates is amazing. When you walk in, you are greeted with a smile by their awesome receptionists. They all knew me by name, which shows they actually care about who walks in the door. I saw Aileen Barnhouse for talk therapy, and Ann Glick for psychiatry. They are both extremely professional and personable. I never felt judged or uncomfortable when talking to them. They both really listened to me. Ann never pushed a certain medication on me, as some doctors have in the past. Every appointment she asked “how are the medications working?” and “do we need to make any changes?” I have been to a few doctors/therapists before finally finding Psychiatric Associates. No one even compares to the experience I’ve had here. I would suggest Psychiatric Associates to anyone who needs help with their mental health.

Great place, and great staff.

This office is amazing! Dr. Welsh is a fabulous doctor! He is very intelligent and very compassionate! The office is beautiful. The staff is nice and accommodation. If I've ever had an issue outside my regular office visit I have always received a call back within a couple of hours.

First off Dr. Welsh is a great person and Doctor from what I experienced. The two star review is not for him. However, I was charged 95 dollars for a no show appointment. I called in 30 minutes later when I was free and was told if I could come in an hour later they would waive the fee. My whole day was booked after my missed appointment. If he has anything to do with billing then he should be ashamed of himself. My job makes it very difficult to leave during the day and unfortunately at times I will miss appointments that I have. In my profession if a customer misses an appointment I don't take a days pay out of their ass. I will never go back there again. It seems their business model is about padding their pockets instead of helping the public.

Multiple family members are patients here. Never had an unprofessional experience. So happy to have a skilled team to help us with whatever we're going through.

Major scheduling issues, and dissapointing billing practices. On one occasion I came in for my appointment and they had no record of an appointment at all. I had the appointment card I had been given with that date and time with me! Luckily the doctor was available within the hour to see me, but if she hadn't been I would have taken an hour out of my work day for nothing. Once I realized I had missed an appointment about 15 minutes after it was supposed to have started, and called the office to see if I could come in later that day and have the no-show fee waived. I was able to reschedule to later that week and the receptionist said I would not be charged but I still got a bill for a missed appointment. I am signed up for text reminders of appointments but they only come about 50% of the time, which makes it much easier to accidentally miss appointments. I saw Ann Glick there, who I liked, but not enough to make up for all the office/billing errors. I don't know if these mistakes are the result of poor software or mistakes from office staff, but it's really frustrating, especially when the fees are so high.

My Dr was great. The office is nice (although it made me slightly uncomfortable for some reason). They have coffee and it looks very professional. It may just be my bad experience, so try if you want. Anyway, my negative experience that had me switch to another practice was that I gave this place 5 tries. 2 out of those 5 times, I entered, walked to the desk, told my name and who I was there to see. They told me they had no record of an appointment for me. I asked if I was scheduled for any time that week (thinking I'd put the wrong date in my phone when scheduling). Nope! I wasn't scheduled at all. The first time I thought, oh well maybe I made a mistake. They told me my Dr had a cancellation and could see me soon anyway, so I waited and got in after about 30 minutes. This place has you pay like $50-100 if you miss an appointment, which I never have, but yet they can't get my appointment right? What if they put me in the wrong day and I get fined for it? They didn't seem to believe that it was their mistake this time, so how do I know if they would forgo the fine if they scheduled me at some random time and then I missed it. I was thinking, "That's kind of a scary thought." This last time I went in and the same thing happened. No record of an appointment at all. I'm normally very forgiving on these things. However, this was the second time I'd taken time out of my day to come to my appointment, only to not have an appointment actually scheduled. They offered to get me in to see my Dr in 2 hrs, but I just couldn't believe this happened again, and figured it wasn't worth it. So I asked for the slip to transfer my records to another Dr. So that was my bad experience. Would not go back. Would not recommend. Feel free to try for yourself though. Both times this happened I believe I had called on the phone to schedule, rather than doing it at the desk when I left. So it could just be an issue with that method getting recorded.

Great experience here and super helpful for both my daughter and me.

I have seen both Lisa Kim and Christopher Welsh. I have had 100% positive experiences with both providers. Dr. Welsh is very knowledgeable and straightforward which doesn't waste any time and I appreciate that. I have been seeing Lisa for several years and drive a fair distance in order to do so because of her expertise, professionalism and (counting my experience with a few therapists) unmatched candor. I never understood why some people would retain a counselor just to be told what they want to hear. If you're not investing honesty in your own life then save your money. Lisa opens you to what you *need* to hear and that is why I feel real progress has been made. This past year has been without question and by far the most unfortunate of my life and Lisa's ability to listen and share her experience/wisdom has been invaluable. I would say call and apply as a new client today but she is so busy that for very good reason, she is booked months in advance in some cases. PA, you couldn't do better in my opinion. Oh and it also helps that they have a very organized, talented and cheerful Whitney in the front office. :)

Their unprofessionalism is summed up by the fact that they send junk mail.
