I never had the displeasure of working with hoopes' assistant, but there was no need for me to get that far. I have been in search of someone that can help me for about a year now. I was hopeful at first because he talked himself up at the beginning of the appointment, sounding thorough and competent. Though it quickly became clear he was not going to listen respectfully to me or my feelings. He stuck to his little diagnostic paper, not letting me add in things I thought were very important for my treatment. He interrupted me, cussed at me and showed no empathy when I shut down and became completely disinterested in what he had to say. He insulted the education level and opinions of other professionals I have worked with in the past who have improved my life. He even smiled after asking me what my plan for suicide had been and said, "well, that's quite dramatic. Hopefully you don't do that." Then said nothing else about it. The nicest way I can put it, he's and arrogant jerk.

I went here from 2007-early 2011. WORST 4 YEARS OF MY LIFE!!! I only saw Dr.Hoopes once and they kept changing my meds even though they were working! I felt like i was being thrown around like a little child and the med doctor would always talk to my parents instead of me. And when she did talk to me, she would talk to me condescendingly and put me down in front of my parents. These people are quacks! Go somewhere where you can get legitimate care and legitimate doctors!

I had the most, I guess you could say "interesting" conversation with Dr. Scott Hoopes today. Our counselor had contacted him twice regarding the need for a medication dose increase for our son with no response from his office so I called today and spoke with him personally. He said he was offended by a counselor trying to tell him how to prescribe medication. He told me that according to his last visit, my son's anxiety was under control, and when I said he isn't being treated for anxiety but instead for OCD, he said that was irrelevant. He went on to site studies about doses of sertraline, and I pointed out that our son isn't taking sertraline, but again he said that was irrelevant. He then continued to argue with me and talk over me while I was trying to explain why the medication doesn't seem to be working. I was about ready to tell him we would find another physician but before I could, he proceeded to say, regarding the counselor (and I quote) "She doesn't know her ass from a hole in the ground," and then hung up on me. Needless to say, we will be going elsewhere and I will be filing a complaint with the medical board. So if you are in need of a psychiatric provider, avoid the practice of Scott Hoopes, MD!

The front staff are happy to take your money, they don't send a bill or help you when the fee urpfont will be hundreds of dollars because of your insurance. And if you change jobs and need to wait for insurance to kick in, forget it. You're screwed as you won't be getting help. Doctor hoopes is self centered and when given any messages or letters that might help a situation and make sure the right medicine is diagnosed. He will read it, look at you and say "I don't listen to family members, they aren't important" and throw the letter away. Oh and he will prescribe brand bane medicine which is expensive when you request the generic. His associates are equally uncaring and only want to increase the dose

Amazing professionalism, I highly recommend this office!! I have been in the mental health side of this valley for 21 years, no one has participated in my health the way Dr. Hoops and his staff has. It is an open honest educated dialogue while reaching potential. Much appreciated!!

I have been a patient of Dr. Scott Hoopes at Live Well Psychiatry for almost 5 years now. I have had amazing experience with not only Dr. Hoopes but the front office staff and medical assistant’s as well. From day one I walked in to the office nervously not knowing what to expect because let’s face it not all mental health offices are the warmest place to be. I was greeted with smiles and a staff that made me feel like they were happy to help me in any way they could. I never felt one bit of judgement for being there. Dr. Hoopes not only just talked to me about what I thought was going on what had brought me to see him but he had me take some tests and spent quite a bit of time so he could get the whole picture of me and my mental health. He spoke to me in detail about his findings and talked to me about medicine that he thought would help. He also explained how the medicine works in detail so I could really understand the full picture. Fast forward to almost 5 years later I still love going there. I have never felt judged or unwelcome for one minute which I had felt at other office’s in the past. Live Well Psychiatry has changed my life so much. I am present and enjoying my life now. I would not be doing that with out Dr. Hoopes and his staff’s help. If you are looking for a caring and very knowledgeable mental health office, that truly cares about it’s patients than Live Well Psychiatry is the place for you.

Dr. Hoopes and his office have saved my life. I have struggled with anxiety and depression since I was very young, but it had become increasingly worse over the last 20 years or so. I had been in and out of counseling for a number of years, and tried different psychiatrists and different meds as well. Counseling helped, but not enough, and I had very poor experiences trying to find a decent psyciatrist in the treasure valley. My counselor referred me to Dr. Hoopes when the depression was particularly bad, and he was very kind and quick and getting me in and helping me find the right medication combo to work for me. I saw him directly for over a year, then once my meds were more stabilized I began seeing his NP, Joyce Reiland. She can be a little more aggravating (though she is nice), and I do wish that he would do a checkup once every year or so, but I have finally been well-managed. I also now have worked with counselors there and they are by far the best counselors I have ever had.

I have been seeing Dr. Hoopes for about 3 years now. I have found his counseling and the medication he has prescribed as helpful. He has helped me to find solutions such as discounts and generics at times to keep my medication costs low. Like all doctors in this field, Dr. Hoopes is not the magical perfect solution for everyone. For those who write reviews with harsh criticism, I recommend they simply move on to someone else. In my experience, the office staff is very rigid about appointment times and if you are more than 5 minutes late, they will cancel your appointment and reschedule it. It is something you have to get used to.

I've been seeing Dr. Hoopes for over 4 years now, and I have nothing but good things to say about him and his staff. They are all very patient, helpful, and kind. Hoopes really knows his stuff, and if you're open and honest with him he'll get you to where you need to be to feel normal.

It’s taken about a year and a half for me to get to where I am right now. I was referred by my counselor and was not disappointed in the least bit. I was informed that with bipolar, it may take a year to get the medications where they needed to be. It ended up taking about a year and a half. But after a year and a half of many doubts and uncertainties, I can say that Dr. Hooped has been a life saver. My life has been better than it’s ever been and I’m so thankful I was able to get to this point to see the results.

My daughter has been treated by Dr. Hoopes for over 4 years, and I am very pleased with the care she receives. He spent quite a bit of time on the initial diagnosis, and worked with her to find a treatment regimen that would have her feeling better with a minimum of side effects. It took a couple follow-up visits to get it exactly right, but I feel like he listened carefully and made the appropriate "tweaks." Being young, she occasionally wouldn't follow the treatment plan as she should, but he has addressed these lapses in a caring, non-judgmental way. As a result, these issues have mostly disappeared. Receiving the proper care has made a huge difference for her, and she is feeling pretty good. I highly recommend Dr. Hoopes and the others in his office.

Love Dr. Gonzales. She has been incredibly caring, concise and gets right to the point. She understood quickly what my issues were and now has me on a successful regimen. I feel better than I have in about 2 years. The staff is also friendly and quick to handle questions!

Receptionist very rude ( Tracy?? I believe was her name) Doesn't offer options. Dead silent on phone. Cold and rude when I asked questions. People aren't going to just know a doctors schedule or setup. Dr. Hoopes - Nothing but the best. Work on front office staff.

Without family voice your loved one can be lost. You cannot trust only the word of a patient that is mentally ill. That happened and because it did , and it does my son was destroyed in two months. The system is flawed. You must involve family if you truly want to be successful and help your patient. This office did nothing but fail my son

I first came to this office when I was in the 6th grade, and Dr. Hoopes and Joana Gonzales have seen me through middle school, high school, and now college. They’ve had to adjust my treatment plan many times over the years due to physical growth and emotional changes, but each time they’re able to get me back to feeling like “myself” again. Sometimes it’s difficult to convey exactly what I’m feeling or going through, but Joana has the ability to ask the right questions and is extremely patient. Even though I’ve moved out of state for school, I make it a point to schedule appointments whenever I’m home because there’s no way I’d consider transferring care!

I was diagnosed bipolar and started taking medications and was miserable for months. I had to take disability for work so I didn't lose my job because I could not get out of bed. Finally went and got a 2nd opinion and I am in no way bipolar. I stopped taking the medications prescribed and have been working again and happy again. My coworker was also misdiagnosed severely and missed almost a year of work trying new medications with this office.

I've tried to like this office, since it came highly recommended, but I had my last straw today. The reason to see a psychiatrist is ostensibly for medication management, but I have had nothing but problems with my medication. They don't want you to call them if your refills are up, they want you to have the pharmacy request it. The past THREE TIMES I have done this like they asked and EVERY TIME, they have not responded to the pharmacy's request. I have to call them, and pray I don't get the snooty voicemail (“Don’t call us for this, this, or this; if you leave a message don’t call again; and if it’s after three we probably won’t return your call until tomorrow. Or ever."). After being out all weekend, I called first thing this morning and (incredibly) got the nurse, who said she would send my prescriptions over. When I got to the pharmacy she had only sent one, and not the one I needed. I managed not to cry there, but when I got the answering machine at Dr. Hoopes' office it was after three and I knew there was no hope of getting what I needed. You can't mess around with people's medications like they aren't important. I'll be looking for another doctor.

I have seen Dr Hoopes for over 3 years now, and highly recommend him. I have lived in several states and was nervous about finding a good doctor in the Boise area. I appreciate how methodical he is about diagnosing, and he gives me choices about my treatment. He picked up on issues I didn't even know I had and has optimized my home and work life. He doesn't overuse visits and I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes in office to be seen. I was also quite pleased to hear great things about him from a former employee of his that I met at my work.

I had an allergic reaction to the medication. When I called they told me it was not the drug and to up my dose. So I called the Pharmacy. The Pharmacy said it was an allergic reaction to the drug and to call the prescribing Dr. We called and got a Voicemail earlier, so we decided we would go in. We got there and they told us to wait in the lobby. We waited there for 30 minutes for his nurse to come out and tell me to up my dose. Back story: I bring my spouse with me to everything because sometimes I forget things and feel uncomfortable without him. My husband was furious and advised her that we had already done that. She said something like I don't know what to tell you, it's not the drug, go to an urgent care. So we went to an urgent care. Who said that it is an allergic reaction to the medication and to go back to the prescribing Dr. When we explained what was going on, she said to go to my pcp. Went there and got things all squared away. NOT ONLY, am I allergic to that drug, but it could have been causing issues with my liver. And the drug which was "natural" and "has no dependency issues" actually is one of the worst.drugs.ever. to come off of. I had never been on any drugs like this one, for depression and anxiety and per my pcp: this drug is not a recommended starting point for anyone who has never taken things like this before and that it can wreak havoc on someone's body. My advice to you: is to do your research, and look for red-flags. I ignored my intuition because he was recommended by my counselor. I should have trusted my gut and not gone there. I am grateful we caught this early on. I can only imagine what would have happened if I didn't bring my spouse with me to everything. I feel like it would be easy to convince someone that it's all in their head if they were alone.

Dr. Scott Hoops and his staff are professionals of the highest order. I have never in my life received the level of care these people provide. Everyone, from Dr Hoops to the reception staff, to the nurses, to the counselors, to the practitioners, genuinely care about people. I wish I could give them more stars. Five isn't enough.

Used this office from 2010-2013 because my counselor referred me to Dr. Hoopes for medication management. I was quickly passed to an associate and then to another associate. The psychiatric care is terrible. I felt pushed aside and like no one really took into consideration what I had to say. The people here a cold and uncaring.
