On my 1st visit I came away with 2 take aways that have been helpful- how to breathe correctly and "Joy, where are you? HERE", and Joy, what time is it? NOW Simple to remember and points to living in the moment and that joy can be accessed in the here and the now.

For a reason of personal anxiety owing to a passing phase of life, I have taken just one appointment with Dr. Choi Choi and it was like hitting the bull's eye. All it took was just one single appointment and I found exactly what I was looking for at that particular stage and found it totally worth.

Dr. Choi is one of four psychiatrists I've worked with who is empathetic, respectful, and up-to-date with modern psychiatry. He has shared his personal experiences, coping strategies, and similar cases (though anonymous) of others facing similar ordeals. His savvy on the brain is impressive (if not necessary for all psychiatrists), which is something that one of my previous psychiatrists did not possess in his twilight years and his medical knowledge from the 1970s.

I've been Dr. Choi's patient for the past 3 years, and he is definitely unlike any other psychiatrist I've seen. He sees patients for an extended period of time, really taking time to get to know you rather than acting solely as a 15-minute medication manager. I go in for ADHD, but I talk about my life and my struggles, and he carefully listens and imparts wisdom to the situation I present. I'm so thankful for a psychiatrist like him, and I would stop your search for a psychiatrist and recommend you just come and see Dr. Choi.

He was very knowledgeable; he was able to help me with complex issues by immediately identifying the root of the cause. In one hour, he helped put my life on the right track- well worth the price. Initially, I didn’t think it was possible, and so I’m grateful for his expertise. I will definitely stop by again. Thank you!

I have social anxiety for pretty much my entire life. I was afraid of going to crowed places. I had intense fear that cause my body to freeze whenever I met with strangers. I fear that they would judge me in bad ways even when I was not in a conversation with them. After meeting with Dr.Choi twice, my anxiety level decrease dramatically. It used to be 10/10 (Over control) whenever I met people and about 5/10 (still lots of anxiety but able to cope with it) when I hang out with my close friend. Now my anxiety is about 3 or 4 out of 10 even I'm talking with strangers. Dr.Choi prescribed 10 mg of an antidepressant, Lexapro, which I have to take it daily and he prepare me mentally to get rid of social anxiety. The most important thing is to understand that Lexapro does not get rid of anxiety, it only reduce it. I am responsible to change myself mentally so taking Lexapro is like changing difficulty to control social anxiety. It is so much easier to control anxiety when it's 6/10 compare to 10/10. The point is, don't let Lexapro do all the job for you because it does not. You have to do it!! Oh and one last thing, Lexapro does have a lot of side effect, just make sure you don't get major ones.

Dr Choi is one of the most intelligent people I have ever come across. I have seen a number of doctors in my life and he is by far the best. His unique approach is amazing and I really look forward to each of our sessions. He is down to earth and utilizes a variety of practices to help you which I have benefited from for nearly 3 years now. I highly recommend.

I've seen Dr. Choi at a center where he used to volunteer his time. You see, that's coming to an end, and he apparently felt free to let loose and act in an incredibly disrespectful, insulting, and unprofessional manner as a sendoff to at least one of his patients...me. He asked what was new, and I told him about finishing the TMS treatment and how it helped. I then told him that since he was leaving, my primary care doctor initially said she would assume responsibility for the management of my psych medications. However once I listed the count, mg, and intended dosage in an attempt to be thorough, she backtracked a bit. I was concerned, but he said I would be okay since the center was supposed to refer me to other centers though that hasn't happened yet and to my knowledge wasn't going to happen as I'd been asking around regarding what to do. I informed him that since my doc committed to the management for at least a month, she needed his most recent case files. I then inquired as to how that typically happens. He said he'd have to fax it from his office after complaining about the "fax/scanner thing" at the center. I said okay, then said that since the doc is currently backtracking, I'm concerned that when the time comes, she won't do it, which is a very real possibility. Consequently, I asked him if he would be willing to write the last set of prescriptions since they're good for six months, and it's exactly what he would have been doing next month had he chosen to remain at the center. I was simply asking a month early because of his departure and the fact that if they did back out, I'd be screwed. He became annoyed at that last statement and said, "Again, you won't be screwed, the counselors are supposed to refer you out." He then said that I seem to have an implied irrational belief that things won't work out. I said that past evidence suggests that's the case or that they'll at least be some issues. While asking if he'd write the final set of prescriptions, I said that if he didn't feel comfortable doing it or if there was a legal reason why he couldn't, that I understood. He then put his head down and left it down for an uncomfortably long time. When he lifted it, he went on a tirade saying, "Do you see this?" then ruffled some papers showing a few prior authorizations he took care of. "This is all the extra work I had to do for you! When you come in, I just think, 'Well what will Jennifer ask me to do today that's above and beyond?'" Mind you he's not just embarrassingly loud at this point, he's literally yelling. He then proceeds to grab his pad and start writing. Each prescription was accompanied by a long and loud sigh. While in the middle of writing, he blurted out, "Come on man! I mean just come on! Don't you see a pattern here? I'm sure you've had this reaction before." I said, "Nope, just you." Then he said, "Whatever you say. I know you have." I asked when, and he said, "All the problems you've had with the pharmacy/pharmacies." I told him that none of that was my fault. If you've ever been to the CVS I have, you'll know. The issues I experienced were caused by them. All I can do is go to the window and drop off the prescription. After that, I have no control regarding how it's handled. Again, he said, "Whatever you say." He continued to write then started up again saying, "Curb your ego Choi. Just do what Jennifer wants and hopefully it'll be over soon." He then resumed sighing after which he muttered, "Deep-rooted psychological issues." Then towards the end, he got riled up again, and started yelling, "Now I have to write these AND take your case file back to my office! Come on man!" When he finished, he handed me the prescriptions, stood up indicating that our session was over because he was over it, and said something like, "Good luck to you." When I walked out, I said, "Well that was incredibly unprofessional." He responded by yelling out the open door, "Oh come on man!" Then I said, "And that was too." And that was the end of our interaction.
