I wish I could give this clinic ZERO stars. Let's start with my journey with Dr. Lane- Psychologist- I spoke with Lane 2-3 times total in my time at Psychiatry 280. She was over 30 minutes late to TWO of my appointments (not because she was dealing with another client.) At the end of my last session with her, she STILL did not know my name or anything about me. After my 2nd visit, I met with Dr. Polek for approximately 15-20 minutes. I was unsure of him from the beginning based on what I walked away with versus what I explained my issues were. After testing multiple different treatments with him, I called 5 Psychiatrists in the Birmingham area, and my previous Psychiatrist in Auburn- most of them knew of Psychiatry 280 and the ones that did told me they had only heard negative things about Dr. Polek. Each and every one of them were appalled at the treatment I received. I take medication very seriously- they can do SERIOUS damage to your health and even be fatal if not properly researched or if combined with other medications. Luckily, I was not harmed. FINALLY, when I requested my medical records after telling them how upset I was with them- they denied me my personal records 4 different times, stating that it was illegal for them to give them to me because it was a "Psychiatry Clinic". I spoke with an attorney who told me what my rights were according to HIPAA and contacted them one last time to inform them that it was in fact ILLEGAL for them to deny me my Psychiatrist Medical Records. (HIPAA Code 45 CFR 164.501) I DO NOT recommend this clinic to anyone hoping to find a doctor that LISTENS to you. It's sad that we live in a world where we cannot trust our doctors. On a nice note, Kristen the receptionist was the most professional person in the building and very understanding throughout my whole situation. On top of that, I just got a call saying that I "owe" $99 and I haven't been in since June 2016. Funny how Lane can tell if money is missing, but can't remember my name!

I have been to several different Psychiatrist not just as a patient but also a caregiver. The staff and Dr are extremely nice and very helpful. They handle all prescriptions and new patient sign up electronically which is amazing. Must places I have seen still make you spend an hour or two to fill out all the paperwork in the office. The doctor does a great job explaining the possible care options and is really willing to work with you and make sure you have all the information you need. I highly recommend this place.

I have been treated by Dr. Polek for several years. He is thoughtful and a genuine caring person as well as a doctor. He has helped me through some very difficult situations. I owe my own mental wellness to him. His secretary Kristen is simply the BEST. I would never even consider going elsewhere, even though I drive an hour and a half. It's very much worth every mile.

Dr. Polek is by far the best psychiatrist I've found so far. He was in disbelief at what one of the previous places I'd been to suggested doing to me (shock therapy). He, on the other hand, worked -with- me to find a working treatment plan. Which is much better than being -told- what to do. I refuse to go anywhere else. -Anthony

That doctor is a jerk. I visited the practice as a new patient, and the receptionist needed my drivers license. Two weeks later, it was a Saturday night and I was leaving for a cruise the next day and looked in my wallet to realize that the receptionist had forgotten to give me my license back. She never gave me a call or anything to tell me that she had it in her possession. Dr. Polek had given me his personal number on his business card for emergency use, so I called him to see if there was any possibility of getting my license before I left the next day or I wouldn't be able to get through customs. Before I could even explain my situation he cut me off, said I was bothering him, said to not call back, and then he hung up on me! I ended up driving to Montgomery just to get a replacement. An hour after I got my new license, the receptionist called me and said she found my original license buried behind a stack of papers BEHIND HER COMPUTER! Will NOT be going back

I found it odd that this physician has to have your SS# before making an appointment. There is no reason that a Dr.'s office needs your SS# especially when you will be paying a co-pay or cash for your visits. I have never given my SS# to a Dr.'s or dentist office and never had a problem. The only reason they would need it is to do a credit check or to make it easier to track you down if you leave owing them a balance.

Well I wouldn't know because twice, I've tried to get it, having to wait 6 months for a "new patient appointment." The first time I showed up for my appointment and they said they never received my paperwork. This second time, they set an appointment, another 6 months out, they confirmed that they had received my paperwork and when I called to confirm my appointment next week, the receptionist told me they were not taking new patients at the time. Then she hung up in my face.

At least when he told me he cared more about money than about treatment, he told me to my face. That's almost good enough for 2 stars, but a psychiatrist that's mostly interested in profits can't score above 1 star in my book.

I just had my first visit with Dr. Polek and I was throughly impressed. His front office staff is very friendly and professional, they are definitely the welcoming faces you’d want to see! Dr. Polek was extremely nice and professional! He went over everything with me accordingly, explaining his reasoning for the plan he had chose for me. He asked me multiple times if I had any questions for him and made sure I knew to call if I had any problems. I left feeling very assured that he is going to help me find a regimen that is best for my specific needs!

This is LITERALLY the most amazing practice I have ever experienced. I was a patient at Grayson and Associates and hated feeling like I was being written a script and shoved out the door. Dr. Polek is completely different! From the minute I made my appointment, the staff (Heather and Kristen) in the front office as SO NICE and friendly. At my first visit, he took the time to really discuss my issues and ask for my input in a treatment plan. He was very thorough and took the time to actually HEAR what I was saying/answer my questions. I would recommend his office to anyone!
