This might end up pretty lengthy, so the main important question: If I had to do my breast reduction again, would I choose Dr. Kaplan? 100%, without a doubt, he would be my surgeon. I even just had a little mole removed a few months ago and Dr. Kaplan was the first person I called, not my Dermatologist.
This review is a little overdue, but better late than never, right? I wanted to wait until I was at least a year post-op, but life happens and time flies by. I had my breast reduction August 2016 and it was perfect! I could not have asked for a better surgeon and team! I was lucky enough to have my surgery in their Va Beach office surgical suite, if you have had surgery in a hospital then you know the deal, this was such an amazing experience not having to arrive 2+ hours early and then wait. I arrived and within 30 minutes, if that, we were good to go! Dr. Kaplan's nurse, Mary Anne, was amazing and so was their Anesthesiologist. He said a little bee sting and within 5 minutes you will be feeling great, it was more like 30 seconds and I felt awesome! Dr. Kaplan is amazing! The way he marked me before my procedure was like magic. He marked one and pressed my other one together and there was the transfer of marker! You can't get better or more even than that! The type of technique he uses, I thought I would never find a surgeon, especially one that takes insurance, to do it. You definitely have to do your research when it comes to any surgery, but especially one that is going to change your body. The traditional 'anchor' technique, I had 5 consults, and every surgeon said there is a 50/50 chance if there are going to be complications, it's going to be in that 'T' at the bottom. Well, Dr. Kaplan takes that all away and you don't end up with that extra vertical scar! It's a win win, in my opinion at least. I did a lot of research and I can say that maybe a handful of anchors actually come of looking natural and not like a cone. With the 'Passot' technique you, or at least I, ended with a nice, round natural shape and can 99% guarantee that would not have been my results with the traditional anchor technique. We almost were going to have to go that route because even though my breasts were large, they still had 'life' to them as I called it, not very deflated. The more the breats/areolas hang, the better because of the way this type of procedure works. My stomach dropped and I felt sick when he said this at my pre-op appointment. I'm not sure what magic/convincing Ms. Mary Anne said to Dr. Kaplan, but when they returned, he said he has been close before and can try again! I was so happy that we were back to the original technique. I had my original consult with Dr. Rosenblum, my first of 5, and he said, (you will NEVER hear this from any surgeon) 'Dr. Kaplan does a procedure where you won't have the vertical incision and believed I would be happier with that technique, since I am younger. He said he has no problems doing the reduction, it isn't about who gets paid for the surgery, only that the best surgeon does the procedure!' The honesty I could not be more appreciative of! Then Dr. Rosenblum informed me that Dr. Kaplan performs majority of the reconstruction surgeries in Hapmton Roads and that pretty much sold me right there. When a person going through probably, if not, one of the hardest fights of their lives and then trusts Dr. Kaplan to help them feel like themselves again, after everything they went through, you are damn right, I am going to at the very least meet this amazing surgeon and man! I cannot express what Dr. Kaplan did for me both physically and mentally. Not having the weight on my shoulders, not being self conscious when working out, fitting in clothes 'correctly' these are all priceless to me. Are the girls perfect, no, but they weren't perfect before, hence my reduction. One is still bigger than the other as it was before, they are siblings not twins. Dr. Kaplan is an amazing plastic surgeon, but no surgeon is a god. Be realistic with your expectations and you will get amazing results! Thank you!
