I have been dealing with this eyelid all of my life since I was 2 years old and all I could think about was trying to find a way to lift my lid back up to its normal position. Though it is not perfect, Dr. Woodworth and her fantastic team saw fit to make sure my expectations were succeeded above and beyond. After two surgeries over the course of 10 years I was over whelmed with the results and more than happy to let people know what a great job this team has done and how it has affected my life. Thank you for everything I am truly blessed to be able to work with such a wonderful team of people.

I received one Kybella treatment on July 25th, 2016, at Duke Aesthetic Center by Dr. Julie Woodward. Both the recommendation of this compound to me and in its injection delivery were negligent. Dr. Woodward struck my mandibular nerve, causing months of facial paralysis and asymmetry, difficulty in speaking and swallowing, pain, numbness, hoarseness and other symptoms. I had only been warned of the possibility of some swelling and discomfort, not of the possibility of facial paralysis and an actual worsening of the condition I had sought to ameliorate. The two minutes’ verbal information I was given about this compound and the risks were grossly inadequate and thus my consent to the procedure was inadequately informed. Still worse than the results of this (after months the nerve damage is now finally nearly healed) is the manner in which the situation was handled. My appointment with Dr. Julie Woodward was to discuss options for tightening of skin under the chin area. After a lengthy wait, she waltzed in, shooting the breeze with a couple of nurses, gave my submental area a cursory look and declared she thought a little dose of Kybella would be just the thing to tighten up that area. She said she could do it on the spot and, unfortunately, I agreed to it. As warned, the area swelled greatly and was painful for a few days. The following week, however, I began to experience a series of unexpected adverse events. On and around the injection area, including my neck and lower jaw, I first experienced complete numbness that was later alternately accompanied by tingling, burning and pain. I had difficulty swallowing and it was painful to do so. There was a general sense of constriction to my throat and pain often radiated all the way to the base of my skull. My neck was so stiff that I had difficulty turning my head and could not do as I had before. In the week following the procedure, on August 4th, I was alarmed to be met with a reflection in the mirror of radical facial distortion. Parts of my jaw were paralyzed. I had lost the ability to smile and to fully control my mouth. The lower half of my face appeared to have fallen and my attempts to smile resulted in a lopsided, surrealistic grimace. My lips were thinned out and downturned and my ability to speak was compromised. I appeared to have been the victim of a stroke. I began to experience symptoms that were identical to my past episodes of hypothyroidism: hoarseness and a cracking voice, chills, severe fatigue, sore throat and an overall sense of malaise. Believing that I needed an adjustment in my Synthroid, I saw my endocrinologist. After physical exam and a blood test, she said that my medication did not need adjustment and it did not appear that thyroid issues were the cause of my symptoms this time. Many of my symptoms are now less severe and seem to be resolving. At this point, I have some throat pain on the right side and numbness, with some tingling and burning, under my chin. There is a pathway of erratic pain and twitching from the top right side of my neck to just under the right side of my chin. There is still some minor muscle weakness of the right side of my face. The skin under my chin and around my mouth is crepey and thin. My lower lip is still uneven and lopsidedly thin. Dr. Woodward’s breezy assurances that all paralysis and negative consequences of the Kybella injection would resolve within four months were false and delivered only for the purpose of obviating responsibility and legal repercussions. Her negligence was gross in magnitude and its results are still evident.

I personally do not feel that i can give Dr. Woodward and her staff a high enough rating. I have always had a positive experience everytime i have come for an appointment over the last three years. Dr. Woodward has always gone above and beyond to answer all of my questions and concerns. She is very reassuring about all of the procedures, and has always put me at ease. She is one of a kind and Duke is beyond fortune and lucky to have her on their staff. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Woodward. I cannot imagine going to anyone else for the procedures she has performed and continues to perform for me. I am beyond grateful for everything that she has done for me, and I know that endless thank you's can never be enough to show her how appreciative I am of what she has done for me over the last three years.

Dr. Woodward is absolutely wonderful and so is the staff! Have been going to her for years and her skills keep getting better and better! She’s a blast to talk to and absolutely brilliant! Tightened lower lids to allow tears to drain properly. Removed fatty deposits from upper and lower lids. Laser treated face below eyes to remove wrinkles, dark 'pouches.' Everthing was done professionally and with friendly attention. Office ran like clockwork. Awesome staff.

I had completely deformed eyelids due to butched overseas plastic eye surgeries. It was so bad , I had to always hide my eyes behind glasses. Friends recommended Dr. Julie Woodward at the Duke Eye Center in Durham, N C five hour drive from where I live in South Carolina. Dr. Woodward performed several procedures to correct the eye lids and the results were fantastic. My eye are looking normal again, thanks to Dr. Woodward. She always perseveres to achieve perfection.

In my experience in health care Dr Woodward is the consumate professuonal. She repaired my lower lids in one surgery while the other ocular plastic surgeons had tried 8 times. I was ready to give up on the repair but she said she could repair the failed surgeries. I am so happy with the results. My eyes look normal. She is fantastic and I would recommend her to anyone.

I have been here many times now, and it is always a great experience. If I knew someone was coming in, I would strongly recommend getting as much numbing medicine as possible, so that is a suggestion with other patients-to advise that with emphasis. I was very apprehensive about this experience, however after talking with Dr. Woodward and her staff I came in with complete confidence. The proceedure was easy for me, not even having to take a pain pill. I would definatly recommend using an occuplastic surgeon and when I ask Dr. Woodward why she was the best of the best she responded by saying it is all I do , what you do most you do best, I concur. I have a prostatic left eye since I was 3 1\2 years old. I have PTSD since that injury. My eye was wiped out from a rock shot by a sling shot. I remember going to the eye center frequently to change my prostatic eye. There drawers of eyes. Freaky eyes! The nurse (monster) would put one eye after another eye until she and my mother were happy. Imagine at 4 years old how terrified I was. School was worse. Kids made fun of me. Today Dr. Woodward and her fellow has worked miracles for me. I am 71 years old and my left prostatic eye just was not fitting well . It would turn and I was afraid of it falling out. Sometimes you only saw the white part. Dr. Woodard understood my aniexty. I freak out when anyone gets close to my eyes. She worked her magic during surgery.All my friends and co-workers noticed the difference. They stated Dr. Woodward did a fantastic surgery to match and stable my left prostatic eye to my right eye.
