He refused to examine my daughter upon arrival.He said I need not bother to take her out of the stroller. He quickly said she was fine & that her metopic ridge will round out. He started to walk out of the room. I stood there frozen, speechless.[The neurologist who referred me to this doctor, said she would definitely need surgery.]He groaned loudly & waved me to his office [aka gym room] to look at the CT scans.Then, I was hastily sent to the front desk. Overall, I was so much in shock how unprofessional, rude, and how I was at the front desk within the five minutes I had arrived.I could only nod my head through the whole experience. He joined me in the elevator & met a woman in the parking lot with suitcases and they sped off fast before I could get to my car that was parked immediately outside the building. Not sure if it was a vacation, an affair, or lunch break.Either way, dont care. GO TO DUKE! RUN TO DUKE! My daughter needed 2 surgeries, two different therapies and is doing amazing now! I'm glad I followed my gut. I don't know what I'd have done if I had listened to a doctor too busy with his personal life, sloppy misdiagnosis, and hubris. My daughter would have certainly suffered.

Dr. Matthews has been a part of my life even before I was born. Cleft lip and palet is very genetic in my family and Dr. Matthews has done wonders for my family. I myself have been through several surgeries with dr Matthews and his team even before he settled down in his office he is in now. I have 2 children and my youngest had cleft and of course dr Matthews worked his magic on my son as well. Dr Matthews is a wonderful person and has done so many amazing things in plastic surgery world. His outreach to cleft children is so genuine and heartwarming alone. A lot of who I am today is because of Dr Matthews, cheryl and his team. He gave me a face that I could be proud of and not picked on. The road wasn't easy but his team and Dr Matthews always made it worth going through. Thank you so much!!!! Looking forward to the future together helping my son.

Dr Matthews saw what I was trying to get Baptist to see. My child has a flat head and needed a band. After 2 visits at Baptist plastic surgery I was told his head was mild. So I drove almost 2hr to see Dr Matthews! He said my child needed a helment and with his help the ins approved it! He's the best doc because he looks out for the needs of the kids! My child's head isn't cosmetic the band is necessary to fix his flat head! Thank you Dr. Mathews!!

My 5 year old daughter was born with CHARGE SYNDROME which includes several craniofacial abnormalities and pretty severe tortocollis. Dr. Matthews has been following her basically since birth and has worked wonders for her. I am grateful for all he did, does and continues to do!

My daughter was diagnosed at two years old with an extremely rare disease that she contacted in a car accident. Needless to say I went through hell trying to get a diagnosis and treatment for her because no one seemed to know what it was. After finally finding a specialist to treat her then we had to find a surgeon to remove the affected area..everyone said NO. My daughter was dieing slowly right in front of me and I felt helpless because every surgeon I spoke with called her a "liability " and blew her off. Evey Single One..that is until Dr. Matthews. He told me that it was going to be ok and that he would do the surgery that would save her life. She's almost 21 now, married to a Marine, and is an amazing mother to my two grandchildren..without Dr. Matthews NONE of these things would have happened. I owe him MY life, because he saved it when he saved my daughters life.
