I have been actively visiting the face and skin center since I moved to the Ridgeland area. Before I came here, I knew I would need to begin an accutane regime to help clear up my acne. The overall experience of the dermatologist group has been horrendous and frustrating, to say the least. For accutane you need to complete the ipledge information and do blood work. I always do my obligations in a timely manner but for some reason the Dermatologist’s at the face and skin center do not. I have had to call in about 5-6 to tell them how to do their job because my insurance has to tell me what they have to do. All of this only in the first month of a 5-6 month plan. I think this is ridiculous from a professional stand point and it’s affecting how accutane will actually benefit me. I do not recommend this center if you need any active participation and obligations from the Dermatologist’s because they just won’t do anything in a timely manner. Because of this, I will be out of medicine for 1-2 days because it’s the weekend and they did not complete their obligations by Friday. I honestly cannot recommend this dermatologist whatsoever and I recommend those looking for a dermatologist to look elsewhere.

I reached out with a question about a procedure on the 28th and got an automated response letting me know that the Dr. would not be available until the 3rd. I called the office and spoke to a receptionist who took my number and told me that a nurse would call me later that day. I never received a call. Today, 3 days after the Dr's return I received an email that says "we do not do that here" and nothing else. The procedure in question is one that they advertise on their website, so you can understand my confusion. I recommend that the Face & Skin center look into providing better customer service for their patrons.

I would like to start this review off by saying the front desk and nursing staff have always been friendly and helpful over the past three years attending this clinic. I do not want the 2 stars to reflect their performance, which I believe to be 5 stars. Unfortunately, we have not had the same experience with our physician, Dr. McCowan. If you are looking for a good dermatologist with a pleasant “bedside manner” might I suggest trying a different service provider. Dismissive and curt are not what I am looking for when I have a question or comment.

My experience was very positive. My doctor referred me to University Physicians Face and Skin Center for a spot on my back. The receptionist was both friendly and helpful. I got an appointment within a week. At my appointment, the doctor recommended a complete body check for any other spots. I got in later the same day to have that done. This has given me peace of mind. Thanks for the caring and helpful suggestion.
