Had my 2nd breast augmentation surgery with Dr.Tholen and he is hands down the best in the Twin Cities area. I did extensive research on surgeons before choosing him and after hearing from a few previous patients of his who are friends of mine, decided he was the only one to go to. He’s very experienced, explains the procedure well and answers any questions very in depth. On top of being skilled he’s very personable, makes you laugh and feel comfortable.

EXCELLENT RESULTS Very good experience. Excellent results. I had a breast lift with implants. I am very pleased with my results. Dr Tholen is a true artist. Warm and welcoming environment. Friendly, professional staff. Experienced Anesthesiologist who has been there for over 10 years. Experienced nurses. During my initial consult I went in feeling nervous about having surgery but left feeling excited and knew I would be in good hands. Minimal downtime and pain, I traveled and attended a funeral 2 days after surgery. I highly recommend Dr Tholen. I would see him again for any future needs.

Trans/Queer surgery: I had top-surgery in May 2013 with Dr. Tholen. I chose him because I had a few friends and other folks in the community receive top-surgery from him with amazing results. At the time, he had been doing top surgery for over 25 years and I trusted his results as well as my friends's experiences with him. I am beyond satisfied with my results. He is good at what he does because he knows how important gender affirming surgeries are to queer and trans people. Amazing doctor. Really profesional and knowledgeable. Some people review him as “arrogant” based on different things - like interviews, forum replies, etc without actual surgery experience with him. I was his patient and he done an amazing job. He Is very polite, thoughtful and easy going. My surgery was so well done that not only I had an amazing results in terms of how it looks, but my post op recovery was super quick and almost painless. I didn’t need any prescription painkillers and was back in my gym in 10 days. He is also very thoughtful about recommending cosmetic surgeries - I was asking him about nose job and he told something like “your nose is beautiful I don’t think you need anything done”

I had a keyhole mastectomy with Dr. Tholen. He was incredibly kind and professional, and his staff was amazing. Every single person was caring, compassionate and sensitive every single time I came in. I not only felt respected, but I also felt incredibly safe in their care. My results were amazing. I was back up and around within two weeks and my expectations were beyond exceeded in terms of looks. Dr. Tholen was incredibly kind during post op appointments and seemed genuinely excited at my results and how happy I was with them. He clearly does this because he cares about giving people their best lives, and it shows in his results. I could not reccomend him more.

It is extremely hard to find a doctor that is so kind and compassionate these days. Dr. Tholen has taken amazing care of me over the last 10+ years. I came to him with struggles from a prior surgeon and he did everything in his power to help me. Not only that, I trust this man with my life, literally!!! During a yearly check up, he and his nurse advised me to remove an odd looking mole on my heal of all places. Results came back precancerous. Therefore I’d never go anywhere else. In fact, I don’t know what I will do when he retires.

I have never seen him in person, however, I fealt I should leave a review based on his responses in online forums. He comes off as arrogant and rude, all while not actually adding anything of value to the forum. I would be very concerned using him as a doctor since he is willing to present himself publicly like this and being that I am not the only reviewer to notice this behavior, one can only assume he is this way with his patients as well. No amount of training or knowledge with make up for poor people skills. A doctor is simply a body mechanic, nothing special. Find one that will treat you with compassion and skill. :)

Richard T is pompous and arrogant. He did not want to help me. After interviewing him I'd never hire him even if he did listen to what I have to say. I don't need to hear about your car or your dumb accident. I also have an awesome car.

I started my journey to correct the shape of my breasts when I was 21. At 21, I applied for a credit card, I was granted a credit limit, charged my first augmentation. This was not about vanity, the insecurity of how I felt and what I saw when I looked in the mirror at myself has been the largest obstacle for my confidence and self-worth.
