REVIEWS OF Dr. Barry L. Eppley IN Indiana

I am going to write this review to protect other people. I am in the Cosmetic Surgery industry myself ( I wasn’t at the time of the surgery), and I have worked with countless plastic surgeons all over the country, some of the top in the world, so I now know the clear difference between their level and quality, and that of Dr. Barry Eppley, so here are my thoughts. The short version: He ran out of material during my surgery and had to sow me back up without finishing the procedure! He literally RAN OUT OF MATERIAL!. Long Version: His skills as a salesman and marketer are far superior to his skillset as a surgeon, if only because he seems to have one thing on his mind “MONEY”. I went to Dr. Eppley for a forehead contouring procedure due to a congenital birth deformity ( Craniosynostosis). In summary he was to take some hydroxyapatite and use it to contour and round out the forehead bumps, crevices etc to make it more symmetrical, smooth, and fuller. I found him on the internet like many of you, and perhaps it’s my own naivety to blame, but you would think that surely Dr.s have a certain level of dignity and compassion. I was young, and desperate for someone to understand my issues pertaining to my defect. When I had my first (and only) skype call with Dr. Eppley he was so reassuring, he told me how easy it would be to reshape and contour my forehead with said material, it was standard and that there was literally nothing to worry about, I told him that I wasn’t expecting perfect results but it is reassuring to know that he understands what I was looking for. After the consult: He ordered a 3d imaging scan of my skull and I went and had it done, they sent it to him, surgery was scheduled. Then the Red Flags started to appear. Warning sign #1) I never heard of him after the first consult, we talked for 15 minutes on skype and that was it, I was flying across the country to have this procedure done, so it was kind of weird that he just dropped of the radar. Warning sign #r 2,) His office would never return my calls to follow up on cost, and insurance coverage or time of the appointment, again I was flying across the country for this, it turns out that his staff never sent the prior auth paperwork to the insurance, company, a week or so out from the surgery ,. I understand insurance issues as someone that is in the medical profession, but the fact that the staff did not do something as critical as sending over the proper documents and would never follow up with my calls or emails was extremely concerning, and foreshadowed things to come. Warning sign #3) When I awake, he comes in briefly, he checks me out, charms my mom a bit, then leaves. When he returns he informs me that he ran out of material, there was less bone than he thought and that he had to build up more than he anticipated, he said “oh you can come back and get some fat injections” sure let me just get on my private jet with a half built forehead, and fly back out to pay thousands more to get fat injected into the area that you should have finished after you were paid over $100k, seems reasonable. If he had insisted that I fly in and evaluate me in person, or at the very least have a few more skype examinations, he would have known who/what he was working with, pair that with a 3d scan of my skull, but the fact is, how would you know how much material to use if you only meet with the patient on Skype for 15 minutes.? He never call or email to check in on my recovery. I never heard from him or his office again. I never complained, we left on good terms, I never mentioned my devastation , he couldn’t be bothered to follow up with his patient, he collected his money over i.e. 100K from the insurance company for a botched procedure. Do not risk your life, or your mental health because this guy is a charmer, and a salesman. PERIOD.

I'm writing this review several years after my procedure. I came in for a not common lip reducing procedure rarely offered due to issues when younger. He is among the best in Indiana and has an office in IU health hospital too. He actually listens to you, rather than making suggestions, he's high end for Indiana but I was about to spend a lot more out of state. When you're new to cosmetic surgery you want the best of the best, the out of state doctor had a popular Youtube channel, he didn't want to touch the top lip due to possible "smiling or gummy" issues (He was just super busy and was a hour late to appointment, and ended up later refusing to operate both without a good reason, after hiring a nurse and traveling), he had all types of bloodless techniques and Dr Eppley and I quickly realized the marketing gimmicks. At first I was scared because the markings were done the day of the surgery and of course thought they were still big after, after several years realized the shape is perfect for me, even the shape which is impossible, and the incision was perfectly straight (especially with discoloration of lips). Not once did he ask for reviews...etc he is truly experienced and well trained. I even told him about the uneven dryness and color of my lips and tied to experiment in his spa office at IU health.

I have been following Dr. Eppley for many years but was not able to because of my military service. When I finally was able to see Dr. Eppley, I was more than amazed with the level of service and professionalism. Dr. Eppley explains things in such an easy and understandable manner. He has a very eloquent way of speaking and is a direct person. He will tell you what he can do and what expectations to have. It may not always be what you want to hear, but it is the truth. He also does not add any unnecessary services if they truly will not cause a difference. I wanted to get jawline implants but because I have think skin, the results may not be entirely what I would expect. I really appreciated this honesty and candor and decided to get fillers to see how my jawline could potentially look instead. The fillers gave me the result I wanted and will be returning to get my jawline implants done. I highly recommend Dr. Eppley for anyone who wants an honest and upfront plastic surgeon who knows what he is doing!!!

Dr. Epply and his entire staff from start to finish were incredibly professional, informative, supportive and comforting. They accommodated my needs as a patient who traveled to his practice from out of state efficiently. I am very pleased with my results and I would recommend Dr. Epply and his team to anyone who may be considering him as their surgeon!

I love Dr. Eppley, he and his staff are incredibly thorough and do amazing work. He's been attentive and caring and knows how to make you feel confident going into surgery. I have already recommended him to all my followers and fans looking for surgery in the States. He's done some truly great work on me from Breast Revision to Hairline Advancement and Rib Removal / Clavicular Reduction. Best surgeon I've ever been to easily.

My mom and I had the most wonderful experience with Amanda at Dr. Eppley’s office. We were both a little nervous, but the entire staff made us feel comfortable and welcome. When we got in the room, Amanda was incredibly knowledgeable and honest with us about what she thought might look best with our facial features. I am terrified of needles, and I have to say the most shocking part of the whole experience is that it did not hurt AT ALL. I am beyond impressed and can’t wait to go back!

I've started the process by emailing Dr. Eppley directly with my pictures and my concerns. He was prompt in responding, and what he was suggesting sounded very reasonable. I decided to get an in-person consultation. Prior to that, I've asked the doctor by email if there would be imaging during the consultation. He emailed back that it would be, and he said not to worry because imaging doesn't take long. So I paid $200 to secure my 45 min in-person consultation. I traveled from out-of-state. They made me wait a very long time, and even after my consult started, at some point the doctor went to check on his patients and I was kept waiting. In total, my consult took over 2.5hrs, most of it I was just waiting. There was NO imaging during my consult (and that was the most important part for me - that's why I asked in advance). Basically, the $200 was for him to just rehash what we already discussed by email. The consult felt superficial - yes, he answered my questions and had a friendly demeanor, but no notes were taken by the doctor himself, and he barely studied my face. He photoshopped three of my pictures after I left. When I saw them in my email, the pictures looked... not that great. Almost $40,000 in total for several procedures, and my current pictures looked better than the proposed "Afters". I emailed back, stating my concerns in the most polite way possible. The changes to my nose and cheeks looked very different from the changes we discussed. I thought he would tweak the imaging to incorporate the changes I wanted. Instead, I got an email back berating me for having unrealistic expectations (after telling me several times by email and in person that what I wanted was realistic). He only changed the imaging of my nose after several emails. The cheeks and lips were never really photoshopped well. Cheeks looked masculine, and as a woman that had me concerned. Dr. Eppley likes to say that imaging is a communication tool. Well, that's how I was trying to use it. How can a surgeon get a good result if even the imaging is unsatisfactory and he is unwilling to modify it? Do they really expect patients to blindly give them the money? How about showing me as a prospective patient some proof that the doctor has the skills and aesthetic sense to deliver beautiful results? It's been a month and a half and countless emails and several calls to his office, and still no updated imaging. I've also looked for and asked for pictures of women who got cheek implants with Dr. Eppley, and was always told no. He only has two pictures of cheek implants for females online - one where there's no change, and one in profile with a shape that looks quite protruding. No other angles. Yes, most people like their privacy. Yet some people do permit their pictures to be posted, or post pictures and reviews themselves. Given so may years in practice, I find the lack of pictures for that particular procedure inexplicable and a huge red flag. That combined with no imaging means all I have to go on is a verbal promise of a good result, not backed by anything. Dr. Eppley uses his own special implant design or custom implants. They told me I would be getting special design. However, my main contact with the office (Marcia), while friendly, would often confuse them with custom and give me incorrect information. When she promised to get the answers and follow up with me, in most cases she never did. She also made several errors in my quotes (which also took days or weeks to get - unbelievable), and refused to admit to them in writing. Add to that a rude and nosy woman who answers the phone (Tammy), and I wonder how they get any business at all.
