Dr. Kim is absolutely the very best. I met with several other surgeons for breast reduction consults. The other offices felt very cold and impersonal, I immediately wanted to run out. I was just another number- customer. Dr. Kim was a bit busy and had a wait for his next open consult. Upon researching I had a good idea he would be the the doctor for me. I knew immediately upon meeting De Kim, he was the right doctor for me. His team was amazing. From consult, to insurance approval- denial, pre-surgery tests, the surgery, and post-op follow ups. I have felt taken care of every step of the way! My family was here to help me through. If I didn't, I'd have been ok. Dr. Kim and his team were personally invested in my surgery and recovery every step along the way. I received several followup calls between appointments post surgery, they are always very prompt with email and call back response whenever I was in need of assistance. Monica and and Patsy made sure I was comfortable and confident with my surgery and recovery process every step of the way. 3 months post op and I couldn't ask for better results. My breasts are honestly superb. Scarring is already way better than I could have asked for. The shape was unbelievable right out of surgery. Dr. Kim is an artist, so meticulous and dedicated to his work. Immediately after surgery there was very minimal bleeding or bruising. Tenderness and soreness as expected, nowhere near as bad as I'd imagine or expected realistically. I am definitely still healing , just passing 90 days post op, already beautiful. I am feeling so much better. I am finally able to go to the gym without feeling restricted. I've just begun bra shopping and have ended up passing out my followup appointment card with his information in Victoria's Secret every time!! I honestly can not recommend Dr. Kim and his amazing team enough. If you've read this far, do yourself a favor and book your consult with Dr Kim already!

I'm so happy with the results I have received from Dr. Kim. I went in for a consult to discuss my options after two C-Sections. I discovered during this appointment that I actually had diastasis recti. It was disheartening to find out that no amount of crunches were going to resolve the issue I was facing. In April 2018, I had an abdominoplasty and breast lift with augmentation. My before and afters were incredible!! Although it was a major improvement, I unfortunately had quite a bit of scaring. Everyone's body heals differently and Dr. Kim had me schedule scar revision. I am so appreciative that he saw that my results could be even better. He takes his time and really wants his patients to be happy with their results. He and the rest of the staff have always made me feel very comfortable during my appointments. I am beyond thrilled with the results I am seeing after my scar revision!!! If I could leave 10 stars I would. Dr Kim performed my liposuction with fat transfer for buttock augmentation last year. I met with multiple surgeons, but Dr. Kim was by far and away my first choice. He and his staff were fabulous to work with, and my results are beyond my wildest dreams. The first day I took off my bandages, I was so happy I burst into tears. My results have now fully settled, and I am completely satisfied. I've since moved out of the country, but will without question come back to Chicago for any future procedures.

I have known Dr. Kim for at least 6 years. I know all the top plastics surgeons in Illinois. When my daughter had malignant melanoma the Dr's in the suburbs wanted to remove her nose. I then heard about Dr. Kim from my clients and chose him for KD's surgery. Not only did he save her nose but she now has a better nose then when she went in. Then came my reoccurrence of breast cancer. I needed a mastectomy last year plus chemo. I chose Dr. Kim to do my latissimus flap and I am thrilled with the way it came out. Very little pain and I love the results. He has had to go in and tweak it a few times but I couldn't be happier. He is a phenomenal Dr. and My family wouldn't think of going to anyone else. I did not have a good result with Dr.Kim. Hasd eyelid surgery and CO2 laser resurfacing around my eyes and mouth. When I was scheduling it there was some scheduling delays because they said the esthetician needed to do the laser. However it was Dr, Kim who did the laser while the esthetician stood behind the chair during the procedure . My skin looks worse than it did before. Where I was treated there has been significant loss in volume - my eyes have more lines and I know have very dark circles under my eyes. I opted to have the laser treat my upper lip lines and now my upper lip seems to have disappeared . When I read these reviews they mostly discuss breast procedures. For the revision eyelid surgery that I need and filler to correct the damage the laser did I will go to a surgeon who specializes in facial plastics.

I located Dr. Kim after suffering a miserable mastectomy surgical complication. I was looking for the best surgeon for my particular need. He is a master at his craft and a leader in the medical field for breast cancer patients. He was confident while being realistic as we discussed the possible solutions he could bring and the expected outcomes. I had bilateral latissimus flap reconstruction. He's a perfectionist but with a caring and fun attitude which I consider to be the right mix. I absolutely loved his staff and can't say enough great things about them. They are that good! He explained the different types and the whole reconstruction process, which made me feel very positive about the whole experience. Dr. Kim is the most meticulous and compassionate Doctor I have ever met! He put me back together in 2007 after my Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass. My Tummy Tuck and Breast lift were Beautiful. Other doctors and friends have commented for 12 years that I have virtually no visible scar from my tummy tuck or breasts! I finally had my Thighyplasty in December 2018. I don't know why I waited so long. Dr. Kim gave me back my once pretty legs. Also I had another breast revision. I wanted Higher, perky breasts and they are gorgeous. Needless to say, Dr. Kim and has staff are beyond fantastic. Loosing weight was fantastic, but the consequences of having loose skin was very depressing and demotivated me. I began to consult with many different plastic surgeons around Chicago, and while I have respect for all doctors, no one compares to Dr. Kim. Upon meeting him and his staff I immediately knew he was the right doctor for me. His expertise, credentials and previous surgeries definitely speak for themselves. But more importantly, his dedication and care for his patients, is what in my opinion, establishes him as the best plastic surgeon in Chicago. Prior to scheduling a surgery it is critical to do your research on the doctor and the procedure. I'm not one to typically write reviews, but I felt that for other future patients' sake it was imperative that I write this review. If you plan on getting a procedure done in the near future, at least schedule a consultation with Dr. Kim. His expertise and care for his patients really distinguishes him from the other physicians, and I know i'm definitely not the first to say so. As an added bonus, his staff are very friendly and caring and will help you overcome and barriers you may face prior to receiving a procedure.

I have wanted a breast reduction for over 15 years and have met several plastic surgeons within that time. I was unsure of the procedure and doctor to use so I did extensive research. Recently I met with Dr. Kim who was highly regarded in breast reduction surgery. As soon as I had my consultation with him I knew right then and there he was the surgeon for me. We did not leave his office until we had a surgery date scheduled– this is how confident I was. I am honored to say that Dr. Kim was my surgeon. Dr. Kim did my upper eyelids about three months ago. I wanted a very conservative look that did not look hollowed. What I received was some of the upper eyelid skin removed but all skin under the brow bone left. My scar on my left eye is “ropey” and my eyes are not symmetrical. More skin was removed on one eye. I also had CO2 laser which, in my opinion, has left my skin looking depleted and loss of natural volume. I had my three month follow up yesterday and found out nothing we can do for ‘scar revision” for another year, plus the doctor agreed I have ‘relaxation’ (?) which wasn’t explained as a risk. I am surprised by the glowing reviews and maybe he does better body work then facial procedures. He’s nice though.

I am incredibly grateful for my experience with Dr. Kim and his staff. I am BRCA+ and decided to have a preventative double mastectomy with two step reconstruction (total of 2 surgeries). I researched several breast surgeons and plastic surgeons and decided to go with Dr. Nora Hansen for tissue removal and Dr. John Kim for reconstruction. I believe they are both the best of the best. I highly recommend Dr. Kim. He was very professional, gracious and patient. He took the time to go over procedures and answer any questions that I had. At one point, I had a list of questions with me (it is hard to remember when you are in the office!), and he was nice to answer all of them. Going into the surgery, everyone hopes for the perfect process and perfect results, which rarely happens in medicine. Dr. Kim handled a potential problem with one of my expanders with caution and action. I am extremely happy with my results. They are not "mine" but they look as close as possible considering the circumstances! The office staff with Dr. Kim are top-notch. I regularly needed to speak with nurses regarding my disability claims for my work as well as several health issues/questions that needed attention. When you don't feel good, everything seems urgent and they were wonderful every single time. I am truly grateful for all the staff but worked closely with Sarah J and Kristen C, who were excellent.

I had an amazing experience with Dr. Kim. I am a cancer survivor, and had surgery and radiation in my neck one year prior to my surgery with Dr. Kim. The surgery and radiation to my neck left my neck uneven and I had significant skin issues. Dr. Kim showed me what he could accomplish by breaking up the scar tissue in my neck and tightening both sides to make my neck symmetrical. He completely understood the condition of my skin due to the radiation and I felt very confident in him. The results are amazing--my neck looks incredible. He did everything he said he was going to do and was very delicate and precise with me. I am extremely pleased and I feel that this surgery was what I needed to truly put my cancer behind me. I am thoroughly pleased with Dr. John Kim. I had post mastectomy reconstructive surgery June of 2015. Words cannot explain the outcome of the surgery he performed to make me "whole" again. I am sure I gave Dr. Kim a challenge due to the fact I had a radical mastectomy, an implant on the unaffected breast, radiation damaged skin, and asymmetrical breasts. He was very honest and explained that my breasts will not be twins but close cousins. The reconstructive mastectomized breast turned out better than I could have imagined and both breasts are more beautiful and natural than before. Dr. Kim is a genius. I was blessed by his gifted work!

Dr. Kim is an extraordinary doctor. He is compassionate, kind and extremely talented. I’m BRCA2 positive and I chose Dr. Kim to perform a prophylactic double mastectomy. During our initial consultation, Dr. Kim thoroughly explained the procedure to my husband and I and patiently answered our lengthy list of questions. Although it was difficult to face the realities of having a mastectomy, I greatly appreciated Dr. Kim taking the time to educate my husband and I. We had interviewed two well-known plastic surgeons prior to Dr. Kim and both of them failed to mention numerous points, risks and trade-offs that Dr. Kim highlighted. We were impressed by both his willingness to share pertinent details regarding the procedure, as well as his calm demeanor. At the end of our consultation, Dr. Kim said that if I had any more questions prior to surgery, I could book another appointment, or that I was free to email or call him. The weekend prior to surgery I was feeling nervous and reached out to him via email on a Saturday morning at 8am. At 9am, Dr. Kim called me to address my concerns and reassured me that all would go well…and I’m so thrilled to report that all went extremely well! I am now 4 weeks post-op and am back to everyday activities – including running after, and carrying, my 18-month-old son! The past month has had its challenges but Dr. Kim and his team have truly been nothing short of incredible. Whether I had to page the doctor on call after hours, reach out to their amazing nursing staff, or speak with Dr. Kim himself – everyone was incredibly responsive, patient and helpful. And if the issue warranted a visit to the office, they were able to squeeze me in within hours. Separately, I'm truly surprised by how each day brings me more strength and I’m extremely grateful to Dr. Kim and his wonderful team. I feel empowered by my decision. Prior, to having surgery I couldn't say the word "mastectomy" out loud because it was too painful and scary. And now, when I refer to my surgery I say "mastectomy" and I feel proud, accomplished, brave, relieved and almost invincible. I know I undoubtedly made the right decision for myself, and my family and I strongly urge any woman who is BRCA positive to be proactive about their healthy – and can attest, you are in wonderful hands with Dr. Kim!

I never thought I would be the plastic surgery type but after seeing photos of myself and seeing all my loose skin I decided it couldn't hurt to have a consultation. He knew exactly what I needed. I went to Dr. Kim since I wanted to go through breast reduction. I was very nervous since this is an elective surgery and I was not sure whether I wanted to go through it. Dr. Kim was very detailed and thorough and he went through the entire procedure with me. He even helped me go through the Insurance process! I got the surgery done and I did have some minor complications (skin rashes at the incision site). But, 6 months after the surgery, I am very satisfied with the results. Do look at the before and after pictures since everyone heals differently. It is a surgery so please make sure you read up on all the risks. Good luck

I am from a family with a lot of cancers, one of which was breast cancer from my mom, sister and maternal aunt. So when my breast started to 'misbehave' (atypical ductal hyperplasia), I knew the wait and see approach wasn't a good answer for me. Two friends from my neighborhood had dealt with breast cancer and had used the team of Bethke and Kim. I went running with my slides to Northwestern and was told that I could take my breasts now with no cancer and have an easier surgery or I could wait for cancer. I had a mastectomy due to breast cancer. Dr. Kim was recommended to me by my breast oncology surgeon. He did the reconstruction of my left breast and I just couldn't be happier. He is a true artist. I feel that my left breast, which is completely reconstructed with absolutely no natural breast tissue whatsoever, looks natural whether I am wearing clothes or not. He put implants in both breast so that I would be symmetrical and did fat grafting from my tummy to fill out the left breast. This was not easy since I am fairly thin. His bed side manner is one of compassion and caring. Dr. Kim really cares about his patients and wants them to feel confident in their appearance. I would recommend him to any woman going through the cancer journey who needs reconstruction. Just last week I completed my reconstruction by getting the areola tattoo. I'm very pleased. Excited to share my experience with Dr. Kim. I needed to fix lumpectomy breast which after radiation was smaller and slumped in. I wanted least invasive surgery so Dr. Kim and I chose "Lipofilling" (taking stomach fat and insert in breast to fill in the slumped area and overall create a more symmetrical look to good breast while liposuctioning fat out of good boob for better overall symmetry. Dr. Kim is amazing in his art of reconstructing after breast cancer, bilateral mastectomy with radical mastectomy on the right with lymph node resection. Due to early breast cancer at 41, I had a double mastectomy on September 29, 2017 with the expander/implant exchange on January 9, 2018. From the moment I met Dr. Kim, I felt so comfortable and he genuinely took time with me to explain the procedure in great detail. Dr. Kim did a latissimus flap breast reconstruction with a tissue expander for me after a right breast mastectomy for a recurrence of breast cancer. I had a relatively easy recovery from this procedure, as well as the surgery to exchange the tissue expander for a permanent implant. I have near perfect symmetry and the incision sites front and back are smooth and flat. I couldn’t be happier with the result. Nurses Ashley and Jeannine are the best, and so is his master scheduler, Melissa. And everyone is easy to get ahold of – Dr. Kim responds to e-mail – quickly.

I highly recommend Dr. Kim for any plastic surgery/facial procedure. I have recently just had a breast augmentation. I went from a 32A to a 32D. He tells you exactly what he recommends based on the precise measurements he takes and your body size. He goes over all the options, such as saline, silicone, incision point and what size you would like to be. We decided to go with Allergan Inspra Smooth Round- Moderate 375CC. Dr. Kim has a great upbeat personality and the staff is super friendly and very caring especially Monica and Patsy. They are extremely responsive to phone calls and emails with any concerns or questions you may have. I am 2 weeks post op and I am absolutely in love with my results. I recently went back to Dr. Kim to get botox in a few areas and while I was there we did a quick check up on my implants and incisions. If I could give 10 out of 5 stars I would! I researched surgeons for nearly 8 years before I was finally comfortable to make the call. I can't say enough good things about Dr Kim and his team! I recently had a tummy tuck in July 2018 and I felt so cared for by Dr Kim and the nurses and the anesthesiologists. From the first consultation with Dr Kim, he knew EXACTLY what I wanted even after THREE other doctors told me they couldn't help me! During surgery, he ended up getting more loose skin than he thought he was going to and I'm incredibly happy with my results. Dr Kim really genuinely cares about his patients and their confidence. At my follow up appointment, he arrived (on time as always!) and was just so sweet and answered all of my questions. I never felt rushed! The nurse that helped me at my follow up appointment, Monica, was the best too!! I was so nervous to get my drain out and she was so nice and comforting. Dr. Kim came highly recommended by my breast surgeon to perform my breast reconstruction after my bilateral mastectomy. It was a great experience working with Dr. Kim. The process for figuring out next steps to take preventative measures was emotionally grueling, but meeting Dr. Kim and his care team made so many things easier. I had a Moh's procedure done smack dab in the middle of my forehead, close to my eyebrows. I was sent to see Dr. Kim and was seen within fifteen minutes of arriving. Being a single woman in her 20's, I was concerned what kind of scarring I was going to have. I was told that with a hole as big as the one I had, they usually have to cut you further above and below so that they can close it, but he wanted such a procedure to be a last resort since it would mean more scarring. We opted to try closing it as much as possible with sutures and then see if after some time, it would start to heal and get smaller on it's own. I was more than happy to have a slightly smaller sized hole in my head for a short while rather than cutting me up more. As Dr. Kim stitched me up, the hole got smaller with each layer and miraculously closed completely! My mother and I kept thanking Dr. Kim and telling him how amazed we were the the immediate results, but he was humble and kept saying that it was all because of my skin, not him. I cannot express enough how pleased I am with my results and Dr. Kim. It's not just his skills as a surgeon and fantastic bedside manner. The staff at his office have treated me incredibly well, especially Samantha. If you are looking for someone who is professional, skilled, and genuinely cares about the results, then you want to see Dr. Kim! :)
