By far the WORST experience of my life in a doctor's office! I thought she cared from her YouTube video but she does NOT! I have ruptured implants that were placed for reconstruction after a lumpectomy abscessed and I lost the breast. She then asked "Why would you even want breasts again?" I am ONLY 55 years old! EVERY woman wants breasts - even women who have reconstruction from a voluntary mastectomy because of genetic predisposition to cancer! Then she said "and Implants are VERY expensive". This is NOT cosmetic surgery! I do have insurance AND a letter from Dow Corning which she looked at briefly, brushed aside and said "I don't know anything about this", That letter assumed responsibility for payment in addition to the insurance!
She spoke to a student ABOUT me as if I were NOT in the room! Her time was directed to the student about the certification exam "It's all about safety. ANYONE can learn the procedures." Then she said to the student: "Well, you can practice on her & take measurements, pictures and so on so you learn to document everything on this patient even though I will not do her surgery because she smokes". (I quit for years at a time in the past and recently began again). Then started explaining to her student "this area is often called the footplate (?) of the breast ...." . I had to interrupt 3 times to ask how long I needed to be smoke-free until she finally turned (she was obviously perturbed that I interrupted her 'lesson') and tartly replied "I don't know. 3 or 4 months at least. Then, you'll have to take a cotinine urine test to prove it". I felt like a humiliated lab rat. When I asked how long I needed to be smoke free she turned to the student: "Less than 5% of patients quitting are successful".
Well, I'm in the less than 2% that survived a brain hemorrhage in 1991 and walked again because I WORKED HARD for it! Again, in 2010 I was so ill I was near death. God blessed me with MANY highly skilled and incredibly dedicated doctors who worked tirelessly to save my life! I had over 30 surgeries in 4 months in 3 hospitals, typically in ICU. Everyone worked so hard to save me (my family, my church, my doctors, the nurses and staff)! I was transferred to several hospitals including 'teaching hospitals'. The doctors were always respectful, sensitive and careful when they needed to show my body to a group of students. They made me feel as if my misfortune benefitted those students and doctors and as a result would benefit many future patients. My case was very unusual and complex.
ALL I want to continue getting stronger and try to finally reclaim as much of my life as I can! Dr. Politis does not care nor does she wish to help me!
Sadly, but obviously, this doctor is looking for "easy money" and accepts only "safe" easy cases (with money) so she can show off. She does not want involved in ones that require hard work from BOTH sides! She has NO compassion. She is vain (she kept looking down at her shiny shoes and smoothing her clothing). She has no interest to help someone who has struggled so hard for so long! I finally have reached a point where I MIGHT have the chance to at least "LOOK normal" again!
Final insult: Coded the claim for insurance coverage as "deformity" making it 100% cosmetic surgery that is NOT covered! When asked, she told me she "ALWAYS uses the same code. It's up to the girls in front to get the right codes for insurance. I am not involved in how the billing is done." Then she complained to the student how she "just can't get the office to have the computer pre-fill in forms so I don't have to stand and type it in each time. I hate spending my time with this".
I NEVER FELT SO CRUSHED! I NEVER CRIED SO MUCH AS I DID WHEN I LEFT HER OFFICE. She thoughtlessly trampled over my dreams to be a 'whole woman' again that "looked normal". Now, I don't even want to leave my home because I know how disfigured I am. She carelessly tossed aside me believing I had any chance of being restored... THAT is the gift this doctor gave to me.
