I would like to commended Dr. P. for always keeping in touch and monitoring my condition , no matter wether it was a holiday or 10:00 at night. There aren't many doctors these days that go above and beyond to care for their patients. You are one of the very few that has ever taken my care to this level. I was in a serious car accident on April 16, 2016 and I am more than lucky to be alive but I don’t think I would even be telling my story had it not been for my surgeon Dr. James Piorkowski. I hit a telephone pole and had to be flown by life star to Hartford Hospital with several severe injuries along with fighting for my life. I broke both of my legs; my left femur had a compound fracture along with left tibia and fibia compound fractures. My right femur was shattered. I had significant nerve damage to my right bicep which caused me to loose all mobility within it. I had a total of 6 surgeries in which Dr Piorkowski performed 5 of those surgeries with incredible precision and attention to detail. I was back on my feet at the end of July and comfortably walking around by the last week of August. Not only did I live but I kept my legs and I owe my ability to walk again to Dr Piorkowski. He made it so that I could resume my normal lifestyle as soon as October 2016. I went back to work as a diesel mechanic in October 2016 and I had my final surgery in November 2016 with being back to work again a month later. That last surgery was to repair my bicep and it wasn’t a guarantee that my bicep was ever going to work again but there was also the risk that if surgery didn’t go well I may never use my hand again. He performed a double fascicular nerve transfer and it went even better than I had even hoped for. I regained about 85% of the mobility and muscle that I had before my accident. Before my accident I was a healthy 21 year and now that it has been almost two years since the car accident someone looking at me would never know the injuries I sustained and healed from. This man cares so much about his patients and I will forever be indebted to him for saving my life and giving me the gift to walk again.

Dr Piorkowski is awesome! My son had a work accident that almost caused him to lose his right index finger, his dominant hand. Dr Piorkowski was calm and comforting, but also straight forward and honest. He left us with the thought that he wouldn’t regain full use of his finger and explained everything that would or did happen. With all that was said and done, Dr Piorkowski exceeded all expectations! Despite losing some function, Dr Piorkowski skills gave him the best possible outcome. We highly recommend Dr Piorkowski and his office of wonderful staff!

Exceptional doctor!!!! I met Dr P., as I call him, when an unfortunate accident caused me to injure my right hand. Through both my surgeries and recovery time, he is always there no matter what time of the day or night it is, he will answer. He did an unbelievably good job on my hand in so any ways, always state of the art equipment and procedures. Dr. P. is ahead of his time and I highly recommend him and his fantastic staff.

My name is Allen Blake and I am a 24 years old, several months ago on May 26, 2018 I was involved in a near fatal motorcycle accident and was blessed to have Dr. James Piorkowski as my orthopaedic surgeon. I was flown to Hartford Hospital via life star where I spent a total of six weeks, 3 of which in an intensive care unit. Dr. Piorkowski performed over 20 surgeries on my very badly damaged left leg. In the process to reconstruct what had been nearly dismembered in the accident, Dr. Piorkowski would clean and sterilize my wound every other day as well as prescribe me protein shakes and healthy diet of proper nutrition to supplement the healing process. After 5 weeks of trying everything to save my leg with little signs of viable or improving tissue, a lab sample came back positive showing infection. Dr. Piorkowski sat down with my family and I to discuss my options and what I wanted to do from there. The verdict was to amputate the infected portion of my lower leg with no guarantee of saving my knee. There wasn't enough viable skin and muscle tissue on my leg below the knee to perform an average below the knee amputation. Dr. Piorkowski was able to perform a life changing surgery where he used what viable skin and muscle tissue was left from the bottom of my foot to salvage my knee as well as the majority of my lower leg in the surgery. One week after my surgery I was discharged to a physical therapy and rehabilitation hospital to rebuild strength in other parts of my body and learn how to walk and get around. Dr. Piorkowski frequently checked in on my progress and was always available to answer questions for myself and other nurses day or night through calling and texting. Today is approximately 3 months after my surgery date and my leg has healed up enough to get fitted for a prosthetic. I would not be where I am now without the incredible experience and knowledge of Dr. Piorkowski. He saved my leg from being amputated above knee and continues to instill hope I will go on to live an active and normal lifestyle. He also recently performed a wrist surgery on one of my good friends from a skateboarding accident who is now also home from work (keeping me good company) and making a tremendous recovery. I am looking forward to the day in the near future I can walk into Dr. Piorkowskis office to shake his hand standing up for his relentless, hard work and dedication to my recovery and well being. I highly recommend Dr. Piorkowski for a tendon transfer surgery for radial PIN palsy. Due to a benign tumor in my radial PIN I was not able to extend my four fingers and had limited use of my thumb. I had the surgery in late May, and now six weeks later I have full functionality of my fingers. I’m still healing and will get more range of motion in my thumbs and wrist with continued physical therapy. Leading up to the surgery Dr. Piorkowski was honest about the potential benefits and challenges that accompany the surgery. He is very personable and makes himself accessible for any questions or concerns a patient may have.

Dr. P. Has been amazing for me. I have been dealing with hand pain all my life. I thought it was normal to have this pain and tightness in my hands. Until came and saw Dr. P who found an extra bone on my scafoid in both hands. We tried PT, injections, took all sorts of pictures and decided to take the extra bone out in both hands. It has worked amazingly! Both hands are better then they have ever been. I have strength in both hands with no more pain. I strongly suggest Dr. Piorkowski at the Hand Center if you have any pain or injury to your hands!

Phenomenal!!!! Explained all risks involved with surgey made me feel extremely comfortable with procedure. He cancelled his vacation to perform the surgery!!! He even went as far as making the incision match the contours of my tattoo. He did such a fantastic job you can't tell there were stitches!!!! I seriously doubt any other surgeon would have done that!!! He really cares about his patients 110%+!!!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

Dr. P is absolutely AMAZING! He's very straight forward but also comforting, I had an accident back in January that left my dominant arm broken on my humorous. I had went to get an opinion somewhere else and they told me for MONTHS that my arm would heal on it's own. Come July they told me my arm wasn't healing the way it should and recommended me to Dr. P, he made an appointment with me immediately, got xrays of my arm and informed me I needed surgery. He explained how he would need to take a piece of my hip out and put that into my arm to then put a metal rod and screws into my arm. He explained how all of the things that could go wrong, such as losing sensation in my fingers, losing all mobility of my fingers, losing mobility on my arm, nicking the main nerve in my arm, my hip may always be in pain etc. August 10 I had my surgery and I have mobility and sensation in my arm and my fingers, I had my last Xray today and it is healing the way it should. My hip has minimal to no pain 90% of the time and I am able to take care of my two babies. Thank you Dr. P you gave me my life back and I couldn't be more grateful to you! 100% recommend Dr. P
