This month I will have my sixth surgery dealing with my massive weight loss and a medical problem. I’ve had eight surgeons throughout my life and Dr. Villares is the best: He’s compassionate, professional, and amazingly talented. Two of the surgeries (a “tummy tuck” and a pilonidal cystectomy repair—that involves the tailbone) were done in hospital under general anesthesia. The other procedures were done in his OR with degrees of sedation. There have been no problems or serious concerns. Once I did not listen well to instructions about drain care. I called him late Saturday afternoon. He made sure I was fine but said he’d see me Sunday morning. It would be impossible to have been more gracious or efficient to someone who had interrupted his weekend which he never pointed out. Every medical person I’ve shown his work to has been impressed, as am I. Hospital staff have the highest regard for him and report his patients adore him. With the first procedure, I could see he brought his A game, but each procedure from the first one on he does something else proving that the really thinks about each surgery and looks to improve his excellent work and somehow he manages to do that. First surgery was upper abs. Though as an artist he would have liked to do a more balanced lipo rather than just the uppers, we agreed I would have a “tummy tuck” in a few months and he agreed to do the focused liposuction. He had options. He could have gone through my belly button to remove the fat in that area without leaving a visible scar. However, he thought of a better way. He made the incisions very low on my abdomen where they’d be removed with the coming “tuck.” That meant that though he lipoed where I asked (there are limits to what can be removed at one time in a non-hospital setting), by putting in the extra work of traveling up through my lower abdominal fat some portion of those fat cells would die and my body would dispose of them. That takes longer and is a lot more work: repetitive, restricted movements are tiring. The more distance and resistance, the harder the task. The results were amazing as has been each surgery. He is amazingly affordable. Unlike some doctors who have their own OR facility, he does not tack on a facility fee. When a price is quoted, that is the bottom line price—no “surprises.” This Board certified surgeon did his residency at the Mayo in MN. He did his fellowship with the Cleveland Clinic in FL, two top tier institutions. Some surgeons are “cutters:” focused on the technicalities of the procedure more than the patient. Though his technique is excellent and results outstanding, Dr. Villares treats us like individuals that he cares about. He is also fluent in Spanish as are at least some, if not all, of the staff who will also treat you with respect. There is no one I respect, admire, or trust more and that is hard to earn from me. He offers free consultations; not all surgeons do. Besides surgery, he does help people lose weight as a bariatrics doctor. He also does cosmetic procedures such as Botox, fillers, and CO2 laser. There may be more services he provides. I’ve just wanted a surgeon. I got the absolute best. There might be a handful as good as he is out there; I have never seen better. It is a great blessing to have zero anxiety with actual surgery. I’ve had hospital staff double check my vitals because they’re not sure they can believe how I have no signs of stress about surgery that will occur within an hour. There is no need for worry when I know the outcome in advance. Now for the criticism: You may have to wait a while for surgery. He’s booked more than a month out.

Please make sure you check Dr. Villares records on AZMD.gov. My mother has been hospitalized for over a month after going into septic shock shortly after her procedure. Dr. Villares sent my mother home from her surgery with a leak in her stomach and esophagus. He did 2 procedures that should never be done together. He disregarded my mother's extreme pain, high blood pressure and 140 BPM resting heart rate 24 hours following her surgery as (normal.) He continued to provide below standard care following my mothers admission to ICU on 12/12/18. She has been in and out of ICU 4 times and he has been fired by the hospital and from her care. He is currently under investigation. Again, please check his disciplinary action history on AZMD.gov. He has provided substandard care on at least 3 occasions with the end result being the patients death. Please don't risk you or your family members life. My mom almost died and she still is in the hospital fighting an infection and suffering from leaks due to his negligence.

His prices are unbeatable because he truly believe in providing healthcare at a price that is affordable instead of charging prices that few people can afford. Dr. Villares listens to his patients but he also knows when not to listen to a patients. I asked him to put filler in my lips and he said no because he didn't think looking like a Muppet suited me. Also, I see that there are some weight loss surgery saying he is a bad surgeon because they suffered complications after weight loss surgery. My father had a complication from a weight loss surgery and was hospitalized for 5 months, in a coma for two months and it took him 9 months to get to recover to 85%. Anyone who knows about weight loss or surgery knows that healing is up to the patient and weight loss surgery is VERY high risk. Morbidly obese patients are a very sickly population of people and the surgery gives a person a chance at living a healthy life but people do lots of stupid things a surgeon can’t control and/or they are simply not good at healing. But please think before you write trash reviews for a doctor and especially a surgeon that dedicated their life to treating one of the most high risk patients on the planet. Take some responsibility for your health instead of blaming others for your actions and please be grateful for the helpers. This crazy reviews make me sad and are not an actual reflection of Dr. Villares.

I came in for a consultation trying to see what options I had to bring my old mommy body back to new. Dr. VILLARES was very nice, easy to talk too, personable, great eye for detail and very professional. We went over three different options to ship me back into shape and the prices weren't bad at all either! I saw some before and after photos and I was impressed which is a hard thing to do. My story started when I was 19. I had lost an ovary due to complications in surgery, and although women get pregnant with one ovary often…I did not want to take that chance to wait and see. Having PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) already lessened my chances and I did not want the odds against me. I decided to go through with an egg retrieval. My body was so hyper-stimulated given my age and all the synthetic hormones being pumped into it that it caused me to gain close to 70lbs in 8 weeks of treatment. I was now 5’6, 235 pounds, and felt like I lacked control in every aspect of my life. I remember sitting down at the kitchen table trying to make a list of things I was in control of, and the only thing I could come up with was what I ate. The weight gain was NOT my choice, but the weight loss WOULD be. Now, a year and nine months later I am 85 pounds down, and have gained a lot from this journey. I learned to be grateful for my struggles because without them I would have never stumbled upon my own strength. Without your help & the help of your attentive and thoughtful staff, I wouldn't be where I am today. Whether it was getting on the schedule last minute for a weigh in, or scheduling my surgery, I never had to ask twice. The staff is efficient in scheduling and returning phone calls, and always has a smile on their face. Dr. Villares has a charm about him! Doctor is knowledgeable, effectively able to answer all my questions and concerns and demonstrated great bedside manner. I am not sure why people assume surgeons are invincible. Like humans, they are prone to all kinds of errors. Dr. Villares and staff are responsive and I will be scheduling my procedure with him as he appears to be the most competent out of the few I've seen over the years.

I decided several months ago that I wanted to have work done on my face. I felt my eyes looked tired and baggy, partly as a result of having had cataract surgeries. I was thinking that my forehead should also be done. My sister had lost more than 100 pounds and had needed a surgeon to remove all that extra skin and had found Dr. Villares two years before. I wanted to see him. She said I should see a different surgeon first, for “context” and took me to a highly-rated, reasonably priced one. I was very pleased with him and know he would have done a great job. However, I did want to see her surgeon. I have to admit, his consult really impressed me. Besides the fact he was a lot more interactive with me, he did talk me out of having my forehead done. He noted that a somewhat wrinkled brow was very masculine. He also said that if I changed my mind and wanted to have my forehead, he would do it. He added in CO2 laser work and something for my cheek area, yet his bill was less than half that of the other surgeon. So I did schedule with him. I admit that though I wanted my eyes done, I was nervous. Just a few months before I had lost the sight in one eye for some time as a cataract surgery had gone wrong and required a lot of work to clear up that infection and restore my sight. Dr. Villares did my surgery first thing in the morning; he checked in later that day. As we came close to the end of the work day, I was nervous about the eye discharge. My sister took photos and sent them to the doctor who said all was normal, but I could come in. I decided not to, but the next week was uncomfortable with the drainage issue because I kept remembering how things had gone wrong with the eye surgeon’s work. We called that day and got the desired appointment time and the doctor did clean my eyes for me and reassured me I would be fine. He also gave me some medication to take and some facial stretching exercises to do to ensure all would heal correctly. Now, a little over three months later, I have had many people, including those who work in medicine, tell me I look “younger.” They cannot tell I have had work done on my face, just that I look better. I am very happy that I chose Dr. Villares and very pleased with his work. I’ve had many compliments, but no one has asked me “Who did your face?”

Highly recommend! Office staff is friendly, organized, and respectful and Dr. Villares is an extremely nice guy and seemed very experienced in his practice.
