REVIEWS OF Boston Sports Medicine Physical Therapy Allston IN Massachusetts

I have been to 3 different PT places over my life and Boston Sports Medicine is definitely the best. They have all the equipment, a pool and they do lots of hands on. Kathy Hartsell is my PTA and she is amazing. She has done ultrasound, ice, eastem and massage and my shoulder is 100%! They are very organized, they take care of all of the paperwork and everyone says hi to you and asks how you are when you walk through the doors, even if they aren't your pt person. If you need PT, go to Boston Sports, hands down.

Staff cares much more about socializing with one another than doing their job. They never seem focused on the task at hand - with the exception of Crystal. Did not successfully treat me and after 4 months, told me to look elsewhere. I have never walked in there and felt I am their priority. Additionally, they are way over booked. They juggle multiple patients at a time. You only get about 1/4 of their full attention, so do not be surprised if your injury does not get better. They also have their interns do their jobs (like soft tissue massages) while they work with other patients. There is a big difference in the soft tissue massages I've received from the PTs vs the ones from interns. But either way, the one doing the massage chats with colleagues the whole time, every time. For complicated, non-linear injuries that involve multiple body parts, they cannot help you. They will only treat your symptoms and never the root of the injury. I have been in PT many times in my life, and although it is a nice facility, the staff has no ability to treat complex injuries. And seemingly no knowledge on this matter. If you go there, I hope to God you get better treatment than I did, but if you're determined to get better, I would look elsewhere.

I am attaching an email I sent to both Kathy and Jenny about my time at Boston Sports Med. I couldn't have been more impressed with the treatment I received! "Kathy and Jenny :) Thank you both infinitely! I feel like the two of you are the first treatment team that has ever gotten to the root of my issue! I appreciate so much your patience, your persistence and your caring approach. I feel that you have given me the tools to understand my body and better take care of myself ! Should my symptoms return....I look forward to working with you in the future! Christine"

I had a great time at Boston Sports Medicine Allston. I came in walking crookedly, and left stronger and with better posture. My overall strength improved and I started running and playing soccer again. Michelle and Meaghan, were great helps. Always sensitive, always on point. And they pushed me!!! And I got better. They have a good formula there, and I always felt welcome!!! Thanks, Boston Sports!!!

Boston Sports Medicine at 1 Braintree St in Allston, MA is a small but effective physical therapy office. The office is clearly well managed in terms of both availability of therapists and quality of therapists. I saw Andrew Provost and I highly recommend him. He is smart, thoughtful, and very personable. He was sensitive to my concerns about the problems I was having with my knee and made me feel like he wanted me to get better as much as I did. He was willing to fit me in at almost any time and left the scheduling up to me for my convenience. In short, Andrew is knowledgeable, caring, and works hard for the patient. I come from a medical family and have seen many doctors and therapists over the years. It is my opinion that Andrew provides excellent patient care and is very good at what he does. I highly recommend Andrew Provost.

I want to thank you for the terrific opportunity to do my clinical rotation with your staff in Allston. I learned so much from Michelle and the many PTs I worked with. Everyone was very helpful in discussing patient cases, interventions and helping me to practice hands-on skills. I understand why the staff loves working at Boston Sports Medicine and I'm grateful to have been part of two teams for the 10-week clinical. I also enjoyed participating in the transition of transferring a clinic to a new location.

Unfortunately about six months ago I experienced a significant accident that led to a devastating injury. In early June, I fell from a 35 foot embankment into the ground below. The ensuing fall caused me to shatter my right elbow, which required immediate reconstructive surgery. During the fall I also hit my head and suffered a significant concussion. Over the subsequent two months I received multiple surgeries and was limited to bed rest while in a cast. Eventually the cast was removed and the surgeon urged me to enroll in physical therapy as soon as possible. I am a fairly active 22 year old male, and I am right arm dominant. Thus this injury was crushing to me, I considered it catastrophic. I have never broken anything, and for me being in such an accident was a novel experience. After being out of the cast my arm felt incredibly weak/stiff, and my mobility was extremely limited. The only bright side of my accident was that occurred during the summer, I am currently a graduate student at Boston College. A speedy recovery, with maximum rehabilitation, and no set backs, was ideal. Following my doctors advice, I made an appointment with the Brighton Location of Boston Sports Medicine. This turned out to be great advice. Given my activity levels I have undergone PT for other nagging injuries before and am familiar with the process, although I have never suffered a traumatic physical injury such as the one I experienced. BSM-Brighton exceeded previous care that I have received, and I always felt like I was being treated exceptionally. The first session I met with Andrew Provost, the Director of the Brighton location and several others. During the first session I was asked extensively about my injury and Andrew helped create a comforting dialogue focused around what my goals and limitations were. I felt heard and treated with the sensitivity I was looking for. He was honest and informative to the best of his ability, and I was encouraged to continue returning. I continued to go to BSM over the course of my recovery process, which took approximately 3 months. I mostly worked with Andrew, although when he took a leave of absence for his wedding I also worked with Aisling O'Sullivan who was just as exceptional. As time went on I felt my range of motion and mobility returning, and Andrew taught me more and more appropriate exercises as my comfort/ability gradually rose. One of the greatest advantages to getting PT at BSM is that they explain the exercises to you and why they are assigning them. The therapists are clearly informed, and it is additionally helpful that they explain to you what they hope each set of exercises will accomplish. Of course, they emphasize following the instructions and diligently doing the exercises for best results. Recovering from an injury such as the one I experienced requires consistent attention to relevant PT exercises, and acknowledgement of ones own limitations as not to push things too far causing a setback. Not only do I feel like BSM was careful to adhere to these principles, but they also helped teach me how to better adhere to them myself on my own time. I doubt my arm would be where it is today without the help of Andrew, Ash, and the entire BSM staff.

I've been to Boston Sports Medicine for two separate rehabs now, and would certainly use them again in the future. I first started going in Spring 2011 for my shoulder, where I worked with a few therapists to rebuild strength from a surgery the year before. I felt appropriately pushed and challenged when necessary to reach new strength and flexibility goals. When I returned in Spring 2012 for a different injury, everyone there remembered me (and hoped that I wasn't coming back for the same thing). We've worked to improve my range of motion and strength of my sprained wrist while allowing me to continue playing the sport I love - ultimate [frisbee]. My therapist very easily came up with ways for me to work on my shoulder strength as well, when I was unable to grip weights due to my wrist injury. While I hope I don't need much sports rehab in the future, giving my track record it seems very likely. And I will certainly use Boston Sports Medicine again!

I am a 32 year old male, middle to long distance runner. 6 weeks into a critical training plan for an October marathon I was experiencing significant heel pain in my right foot. I was referred to Boston Sports Medicine by my running coach for the heel pain. Prior to checking in with BSM, I went to my PCP for a check up on my heel. X-rays showed nothing, and the doctor believed I was suffering from a bout of Plantar Fasciitis. Unconvinced this was the right prognosis I scheduled an appointment at BSM. The facility is clean and cozy. The staff very friendly and helpful. I was welcomed and immediately introduced to my PT Andrew Provost. He did a general intake on my health and activity level and inquired to why I was there. Andrew was able to trouble shoot my injury within minutes to what he thought to be Achilles Tendinopathy. This is an acute overuse injury that is common in runners. We started treatment at once which included manual therapy as well as exercises and stretches. I was skeptical not of the treatment, but more if it would take hold as I was extremely active and training hard during this time. We stuck with it, and with 2 visits weekly and continued care at home I was able to stick to my training plan while improving function in my injured heel. I ran my marathon as planned and made my goal time that I had trained so hard for. Certainly without the help of Andrew and BSM I would not have succeeded. I would highly recommend BSM to anyone who is need of physical therapy care.

My 15 yr old daughter suffered a serious meniscus tear injury with subsequent meniscus repair surgery this past winter / spring. Based on the recommendation of a friend, who was very enthusiastic about Jennifer Mohns, the BSM facility, and the underwater treadmill, (I was intrigued by the water therapy), we decided to check out BSM at the end of my daughter's regular PT elsewhere. Jenny spent a couple of sessions with my daughter and we were sold; my daughter would not go elsewhere to get back in shape over the summer for her soccer season this fall. According to my daughter, Jenny was supportive, friendly, motivating, and a great person to work with. Jenny is an athlete in her own right, with her own history of injuries. I believe that Jenny's empathy, along with her knowledge and training and confidence in the rehabilitation process made her just the right person to work with a 15 yr old girl who was wondering how in the hell she would get back to playing competitive sports after being out for 8 mos. Jenny provided just the right degree of guidance and coaching and athletic training for my daughter to get to the next step of her rehab, getting back to the sports that she loves. Jenny went above and beyond for us and continues to be a valuable resource. We just returned from our 3rd or 4th soccer game and we could not be more grateful; we would recommend Jennifer Mohns and Boston Sports Medicine to any athlete.

I attended the Boston Sports Medicine at the Davis Square location in Somerville and I am so grateful for all they did for me. Since my knee surgery in the beginning of October (2014) I worked with Brianna Ryan twice a week until about the beginning of January (2015). I can't express how much she helped me, both physically and emotionally. She saw how rough it was for me to not be able to play sports but that's what I thought made her such a wonderful physical therapist. She knew exactly how to help me, and from what I saw from her work with other patients, she loves what she does. I honestly didn't want to stop going even though I am now healed just because I loved spending this time with Brie. Her energy, dedication, and love for her job made Brianna the best physical therapist and to me, a great friend. I couldn't imagine recovering from my surgery without her and her encouragement. Going to Boston Sports Medicine became the highlight of my day, everyone there was so great and I could honestly go on and on. Thanks Brie.

My 9 year old daughter received PT from Crystal Wang for several weeks and saw a huge improvement. Crystal did an amazing job researching my daughter's injury and coming up with ways to engage her while giving her therapy.

I came to Boston Sports Medicine for help with an injured Pec/Rhomboid/Subscapularus combo from rowing. Both Jenny and Erin were very knowledgeable and always willing to listen to what was going on. They helped me build up enough strength to finally get back on the water with my teammates. They were always friendly and willing to fit me into their schedules whenever I needed treatment. I'd definitely recommend them to anymore looking for a great PT.

I hesitate to leave this review because I'm worried that after people hear how wonderful Michelle Perry is she'll be too booked for me to get an appointment with her anymore... But the world needs to know- she's excellent! I'm a professional dancer and have been working with Michelle on an injury that had created long term damage. I was dealing with chronic pain and a loss of mobility. Because of my work with Michelle I have been able to regain my normal range of movement and on top of that I am no longer in constant pain. Michelle is a problem solver- she will take the time to research new techniques that are specific to your needs. I appreciate her versatility and ability blend different methods and approaches to give you balanced and thorough treatment. In addition to all of this, Michelle is a joy to interact with. She's upbeat and clearly cares genuinely about her patients and their health. I wholeheartedly recommend working with her, but please, just don't book her 2:30pm TUE appointment, because it's miiiiiine.

The worst experience ever!!! Took me 2 weeks to make sure they have a referral to treat me. Had 3 visits with them. 5 month later got billed 860$ for these visits, because them couldn't find my referral. Basically nobody cares

I have been to many physical therapists and Michelle Perry is by far the best. She is extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, provides personalized attention, and is passionate about her work. I have always felt that I was in good hands with my therapy in working with Michelle. I have recommended Boston Sports Medicine to many friends and family and they feel the same way. This is the best place in town to receive PT.

I recently had rotator cuff surgery, and I have been receiving PT from David Merson, a thoroughly dedicated, and compassionate therapist. He is very insightful and patient, and is very professional. I would recommend this therapist and this facility to anyone who is trying to recouperate from surgery, an injury or any type of problem needing help in feeling better. Sarah in the Watertown office is also an excellent therapist as well.

I just wanted to say how great Boston Sports Medicine is. I injured my back more than a year ago and know one really could tell me what was wrong with it except that there was a bulging a disc. Walking was very painful and even the idea of walking around was painful. I started my therapy at Boston Sports Medicine in August and now I'm back to what I was doing before I injured my back and I'm pain free! I'm still using a cane but, oh well. I'm able to be back at the gym and able to do my workout without assistance.

I went to Boston Sports Medicine after I had torn multiple ligaments in my ankle during a soccer match. It was a very painful and stressful injury which was going to require a lot of work to get back on my feet. I did not require surgery so all of my rehabilitation was to be done through work with Jenny Mohns at Boston Sports Medicine. I ended up rehabing there for a combined five months and although I was frustrated by my own limitations at times, Jenny and all of the staff in Allston encouraged and treated me back to full health. I can finally run and sprint and cut again and it is all due to the hard work and expertise of Jenny. She is professional, has a wonderful demeanor, and never once had me doubt her decisions about my rehab. I worked my way from walking in a pool with assistance to sprinting on the treadmill and its all thanks to BSM. I'm thrilled at my experience at Boston Sports Medicine and would argue, seeing as I've rehabed at other facilities, that this is by far the best. Thanks for everything, Jenny, you're great!

The staff at Boston Sports Med is first rate A+. I worked with Dr. Jennifer Mohns (Jenny) and she was super knowledgable about what she was doing and really helped my shoulder get back into shape. She not only knows her stuff, but she makes the sessions fun and takes a vested interest in making sure you are getting better. I would 100% recommend going to see Jenny at Boston Sports Med.

I can’t say enough positive things about Boston Sports Medicine, and Dr. Michelle Perry and Dr. Aisling O’Sullivan Roche, in particular. I have been a patient there for two separate running injuries incurred during marathon training, and I have not only finished each marathon, but also PR’d by over ten minutes both times! Michelle and Aisling are truly committed to healing their patients and addressing the root of the problem. I have been to other PT’s in the Boston area where they give you a few exercises and send you in your way, only for he injury to return months later. At Boston Sports Medicine, both Michelle and Aisling helped figure out what was causing my injuries and implemented a number of treatments including strength exercises, massage, cupping, dry needling, and even running on their underwater treadmill. I’m so grateful for their dedication, patience, and knowledge. My running would be nowhere near the level it is now without them!

I am very happy with the care I've received at BSM in Davis Square. Brianna Ryan, with excellent support from Brittany, Lauren, and Kim, as well as Christine at the front desk. Not only have they effectively worked to help repair my 30 year old shoulder injury, the environment there is always clean, positive, and friendly.

Jonathan Dioli

I am an avid triathlete, regularly punishing my body to it's limits with long days out on the road. In return, my body has awarded me my fair share of injuries - shoulder strains, plantar fasciitis, ITBS, Hip Flexor strains...just to name a few. BSM has consistently exceeded my expectations in all facets of treatment. I have been using them for 2+ years and have never had a bad experience. I've worked with every PT/PTA on staff and have found their treatments and professionalism to be consistently exceptional across the board. Best of all, they understand the athlete mentality. They understand that losing fitness only takes a fraction of the time it takes to gain it back. They truly want you to reach your goals and perform your best, so they do everything they can to keep you training and racing in order to minimize the impact of injury on your fitness goals. I always refer my friends to Mike and his team and I strongly encourage you to give them a shot if you're looking for a top-notch physical therapy facility with an all-star staff.

Shamus Reid

Came in with IT issues a few days before the marathon, came out with a Personal Best in heinous weather conditions and no soreness. Thanks Mike Bachner!

Ari Tashman

Overall, the Allston office is really good. Everyone is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I received treatment from Aisling and she is spectacular. I really miss her now that I am feeling better and back to my daily work out regiment. Aisling not only treated me for multiple injuries but she took the time to educate me so that I know what to do in order to prevent them from reoccuring. Simply put, she is amazing at what she does. I like the fact that she uses tried and true methods as well as new techniques to treat injuries.

So happy that BSM helped my 16 yo get back to his hockey and prepare for Baseball season when we thought he pulled his glute. After several weeks of PT with Becky and Danielle he was more than ready to get back to the ice. And thankfully, he's ready for baseball season too because of the exercises they taught him.

Audrey Tesserot

I love this place and everyone working there. It's a very welcoming, supportive and focused environment. A big open room where everybody's just trying to heal and get stronger. I would definitely go back and work with Michelle Perry again. She is a sweetheart, but a tough therapist and an expert in her field.

I first went to Boston Sports Medicine in Allston, MA for a strained hip flexor last year. At that time, I couldn't really run and was pretty miserable about the constant soreness in my hip. I worked with Mike, with Jennifer Mohns and with Stacey Choquette and I cannot even express how grateful I am for all that they have done for me. Mike worked with me initially but then Jenny and Stacy were my regular PTs and they were both absolutely awesome. I have nothing but the highest praise for both Jenny and Stacey - they used a variety of techniques to work on my hips (and later this year on my feet for plantar fasciitis), and they had me back up and running and competing in half-marathons in a couple of months. They not only know exactly what to do and how to best work with your body, but they are so accommodating and really care about you and that you improve. They were always so excited when I reported back with any improvements, and provided constant follow-up, feedback and advise. Jennie even emailed me some extra ankle exercises to do at home when I strained a tendon in my ankle - not severely enough to warrant PT sessions, but enough to need strengthening, and the exercises have been great in helping me gain some more strength. As someone who works out and has been through various injuries, I can say without any reservations that BSM has the best PTs - and if you go then definitely ask for Jenny Mohns and Stacey Choquette. They'll have you back up and working out again in no time, and they'll follow up to make sure you're doing ok after finishing your sessions!

Catherine Seo, PhD

Boston Sports Medicine is THE BEST! I feel very fortunate to have had PT there. I had botched surgery in 2011 that resulted in serious complications. I was headed for significant disability and limitations in daily functioning. Bless Dr. Erin LooneyI She tried several approaches to help resolve unrelenting pain caused by nerve damage and adhesions/scar tissue that would wake me in the middle of the night and I wouldn't be able to go back to sleep. This went on for over a year. Erin was innovative and when it looked like all hope was lost, she came up with a new approach that worked! Though I must admit the treatment was very painful at times, her manner and gentleness throughout made it bearable, and the results were worth it. I have functioning back and feel very lucky! Thank you Boston Sports Medicine, thank you Dr. Erin Looney!

Cara Marsh

I highly recommend Boston Sports Medicine. Michelle Perry was very receptive to my goals and quickly helped me overcome a running injury in time to run a marathon. She was also very accommodating when scheduling appointments.

I am a ballet dancer and I go to Boston Sports Medicine to receive dance specific rehab for a dislocated kneecap. I receive treatment from David Merson(PT) and Katherine Hartsell(PTA). David and Kathy work closely together to provide me with the best care I could possibly receive! They are both so knowledgable and really nice. I have improved so much since I first started at Boston Sports Medicine. I am more aware of my body now, and Kathy is helping me with my core strength, turnout, alignment, and so much more!. I always look forward to my appointments and I would definitely recommend coming to Boston Sports Medicine if you are a dancer!:)
