I have already left a negative review on Yelp and came here and I am surprised that I am not alone in my experience with the receptionist.
I have been going to this PT for the past 5 weeks. The therapists are friendly and knowledgeable and I would give them five stars. However I had a rude experience with the receptionist.
I have a very busy schedule, so if it looks like I can't make an appointment, I have been good about calling at least 3-4 days earlier to reschedule it. While they were accommodating regarding rescheduling, you apparently can't be 10 minutes late to an appointment.
I was stuck in Hartsdale traffic on my way to a 6:10PM appointment and Waze said I was going to arrive at PT at 6:17PM. I called ahead and told the person who answered the phone that, "I am running a little late and it looks like GPS is telling me I'll be there 10 minutes late. Just wanted to give you guys heads up". She immediately said, "your therapist has an appointment right after you." After a long pause, I heard nothing else from her, so I asked, "does this mean you have to cancel my appointment?" She said, "Yes, I will go ahead and cancel it".
She never asked me if I would like to reschedule it. Just more silence. I was flabbergasted at the response, so I was at a loss of words. Before I could open my mouth, she hung up the phone.
By this time, the ETA on waze updated to 6:15pm. but I didn't feel like calling back to plead with her that I will be only 5 minutes late, and if it's okay... I turned my car around and came home.
On my drive home, I thought, "how absurd!" and here is why.
Every time I went to PT, I first went home, changed out of my shirt and tie, then showered (because I felt uncomfortable having my PT neck message me when I maybe sweaty or sticky), and made sure that I got there at least 5 minutes early so that i wouldn't have to waste their busy schedule. The very last time I went, I couldn't do that and I had to go straight from work. I brought my shorts and shirt to work so I could change either at work or at PT. I drove there after work and walked in through the front door exactly at 6:10pm. I told the receptionist, "I have a 6:10 appointment but I am sorry I need to change first". She responded, "before you change, we forgot to charge you your copay for the last 5 times, so we need to take care of that". I asked if we can do this after my appointment, because I also need to change and it's already 6:10. She said that my appoint will be fine, and insisted on the payment.
By the time she processed my card, and I changed, it was past 6:21. The therapist seemed fine by this (as the receptionist said), even thought the place was packed.
So I guess what I should have done is to not call ahead and just go there 7 minutes late, in which case it probably would have been fine. I had the courtesy to call ahead and let them know that i would be a few minutes late, and the receptionist (who didn't even put me on hold to consult the PT) cancelled my appoint right away and didn't even bother to ask if we should reschedule it.
It's a shame because I just saw my Orthopedist, and he said since I was making such a good progress, we should continue with PT for six more weeks and see where we get.
Now I am home writing this review before going on the internet to find a different physical therapy.
