REVIEWS OF North Pole Physical Therapy IN Alaska

Shari Merrick

Over the years I have been involved with more than a few accidents that required major surgery and post op physical therapy, here in Alaska and in California and Seattle. I first met Julie at North Pole Physical Therapy about 20 years ago when she was recommended by both my family doctor and surgeon for physical therapy following surgery for a ruptured bicep tendon. I am happy to say she was wonderful. Caring and patient with me and all my questions and my recovery was 100%. To this day I have full range of motion and full strength in that arm, largely due to the treatment I received at North Pole Physical. 3 years ago I had total knee replacement surgery and of course I went to North Pole Physical Therapy. Julie was in a new larger building with expanded facilities and larger staff and the care and treatment I received was all that I expected and more. Julie was my primary therapist but I had the opportunity to work with other therapists who were all very helpful with my recovery. I cannot say enough about how much I appreciate the care and concern for my successful recovery (which it was) that I received from Julie and her whole staff, therapists and office staff. When my therapy was completed I opted to take advantage of their independent workout program. I signed up and I have been working out using the equipment and facilities twice a week for the last 3 years. And I am happy to say that my knee is better than it has been for the last 40 yrs. By the way this is Lee Merrick posting the review. The Google account is in my wife Shari's name.

I was assigned to a therapist who was there temporarily. So after about 7 weeks I was handed off to another another therapist who was also there temporarily. Not that that would be a long term problem, because after being sick twice, and missing 2 appoinments with prior notification and just plain forgetting one because I had relatives from Germany visiting, I was told by Brenda that I needed to "call in before each appointment and we will see if we have time for you." As a 100% disabled Army veteran I did object to some of their criteria, such as a questionaire that is given out at intake, and again every six weeks. I was told that this questionaire was used (partially) to determine whether I should be able to continue with my physical therapy. The questionaire asks multiple choice questions similar to: "I can walk 1/2 mile with no discomfort, I can walk 1 mile with minimum discomfort, I can walk any distance with very little discomfort." When I brought up that since I am disabled, and walk with a crutch, I have no idea how I would react to a 1 mile walk, or, citing other questions, lift 25 pounds or more. My therapist would sometimes pick me up 10 to 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment times, which I also brought up to the staff. There were never any changes made. I believe that my questioning of their system was a major factor to the negative reaction to my few absences, and the absurd demand that I call up for each appointment, to see if anyone MIGHT be available. You take your health in to your own hands at North Pole physical therapy. You may be lucky and get a permanent therapist, but it is NOT guaranteed. Whatever you do, don't question their system unless you are looking for a quick boot from this facility.
