There is a huge difference between an actor's headshot, a corporate headshot, and a pretty picture. Plus, different looks and lighting techniques go in and out of fashion. (Remember when black and white headshots were all the rage? And when submissions were all done with 8x10's by mail?) Richard networks with CD's and other photographers to learn and understand what CD's look for in an actor's headshot. What catches the eye, and why. His technique provides that polished look that tells the CD "I am a professional actor, this is what you get." My entire family has returned to Richard multiple times as our looks have changed, and we are getting ready for our new round of headshots. He always takes the amount of time necessary to get the shots we need, regardless of how long or short it takes. No rushing, no hurries. Oh, yeah, and don't tell him this, but he undercharges for his work. You definitely get more than what you pay for, between time, knowledge, and finished product.

About a month ago I had an excellent headshot session in downtown Lancaster, PA with Richard Waine of Richard Waine Photography. What I liked most? He didn't leave it to me to know what would look best. Since then, I am getting more callbacks than I got using other headshot images and and hoping to start booking even more work soon. We are always our own worst critic and our greatest deceiver. Richard employed an arsenal of easy to follow direction, and attention to minute detail, that drove the session toward capturing me as my best self. Narrowing down the shots was a collaborative effort. Rather than just tossing shots he explained why they don't work. For those we kept, he explained why they were the best image of me as it relates to roles I typically seek and/or my type. Ultimately, we worked, but had a great time. Let me preface this review by saying I myself don't like being in front of a camera nor do I feel I ever have any good pictures of myself let alone a quality headshot. Richard easily managed to fix all that with a bit of coaching. Just by following his instructions and talking in a way that got my mind off the camera he nailed an amazing shot of me in a short amount of time. If you want something that makes you look polished and professional you NEED to go to someone like Richard. He sweats all the details for you so that your headshot doesn't come off looking like something out of a high-school yearbook. His work is nothing like the 15-minute, take a few shots against a brick wall, blank-faced expression headshots like you normally see. It's all about making you look confident, polished,and friendly. While I still don't like being in front of a camera so much I love my headshot and can't recommend this service enough.
