While pricey, she may have one of the best eyes in NYC and it was well worth commemorating becoming a first time mother. Bring your husband for the shoot too, so you can have some photos together.

I did the in-studio maternity photo shoot with Michael Kormos Photography and it was an absolutely amazing experience. I was a little nervous as I didn't know what to expect and I'm not used to getting professionally photographed. Well I wasn't nervous for too long! My husband and I were greeted by both Anabella, the photographer, and Abby, the make up artist/stylist. Abby did an incredible job with my hair and makeup. I told her a little bit about what I was looking for, but honestly, I wasn't too descriptive. But she did exactly what I envisioned. It was perfect. The photographer, Anabella, was wonderful and so talented. She put me immediately at ease, was fun and upbeat the entire time, and literally told me exactly what to do. I felt so comfortable and had so much fun. Abby fixed my hair throughout the shoot and I had several outfit changes using their dresses/robes/fabrics, all of which were gorgeous. The pictures turned out absolutely beautiful. Anabella is so good at capturing the moment, playing with the light, and incorporating poses that are very flattering. I couldn't have asked for a better session or experience. I also want to mention how great and easy the booking experience was, as well as the prep for the actual shoot, which was managed by Sophie. She was very responsive all throughout and provided me with all the info I needed at every stage of the process.

I had so much during my maternity photo shoot with Michael Kormos Photography. Anabella clearly loves what she does (my husband even commented on it to her) and she made the process so enjoyable. I loved how she would move her body as she was trying to explain to me what to do, the fact that she didn't get offended at all when I flat out said "no" to some poses (it's my own personal hang-ups, nothing to do with her!) while also pushing me outside of my comfort zone just enough, and that she was so encouraging through the process. She was open to trying new things just because I wanted to and understood what I was trying to accomplish, while also ultimately providing direction which was necessary since she's the expert. I really didn't know what to expect as I've had professional photos done only one other time. I have to say the whole experience was better than I could have imagined. Then, when it came time for the actual photographs to be delivered, I was thrilled with the results. They were beautiful to begin with, and when I had some particular things I wanted tweaked (for example, they zoomed in more than I had hoped on a couple of them, which is simply a style preference), Sophie gladly re-edited them so they would be in alignment with what I was wanting. Couldn't be happier with the whole process!

They provide high quality photography, detailed responsive communication and will make you feel comfortable in your own skin. The long review: My husband convinced me to do the maternity photo session. At first, I was skeptical about it, did not want it to look “cheesy”, but decided to keep an opened mind during photo studio research. When I came across Michael Kormos Photography, what caught my attention was his style. I liked they way he played with light and shadows and made the person truly be a focal point of the photograph. Every image looked like a timeless piece of art. Michael has the ability to capture a perfect moment that conveys the emotion and the final image tells the story. From that point I new I wanted to be photographed by this kind of professional. When I enquired about the dates and the specifics of the maternity packages I received a very detailed email from Sophie. She answered all of my questions and was very responsive on any follow up questions after that with suggestions in regard to wardrobe for me and my husband , backgrounds, hair and makeup. The studio is conveniently located in Lower Midtown Chelsea area. They have a rack of garments to choose from for the photo session and a privacy screen with a mirror to change between the looks and retouch the makeup or hair. I thought that snacks and water was a nice personal touch. During the session Sophie and Michael guided me and my husband through the prompts for poses so that we knew what to do and how to achieve our vision for each look. They made us feel very comfortable throughout the session and turned it into a truly fun and bonding experience for this milestone period of our life. Shortly after the session we received unedited photos to choose our favorites and soon after we got touched up professional product from Michael and Sophie. We could not be happier with the outcome - they captured our vision and gave us memories to cherish for generations to last.

They came to our apartment and brought all the necessary equipment including professional lighting, a heater, a white noise machine. Words can not describe how happy we were when we saw our photos. If you are expecting parents, just go ahead book a session with Michael and Sophie Kormos. I have three reasons for that: 1. It is a really fun event to do it together with your birthing partner in 3rd trimester. There aren't many fun choices at that stage. It was like a date. The energy in the studio is so great. It reminded us why we decided to be parents. 2. The wife and husband team Sophie and Michael had it down to a science. I had so much during my maternity photo shoot with Michael Kormos Photography. Anabella clearly loves what she does (my husband even commented on it to her) and she made the process so enjoyable. I loved how she would move her body as she was trying to explain to me what to do, the fact that she didn't get offended at all when I flat out said "no" to some poses (it's my own personal hang-ups, nothing to do with her!) while also pushing me outside of my comfort zone just enough, and that she was so encouraging through the process. She was open to trying new things just because I wanted to and understood what I was trying to accomplish, while also ultimately providing direction which was necessary since she's the expert. I really didn't know what to expect as I've had professional photos done only one other time. I have to say the whole experience was better than I could have imagined. Then, when it came time for the actual photographs to be delivered, I was thrilled with the results. They were beautiful to begin with, and when I had some particular things I wanted tweaked (for example, they zoomed in more than I had hoped on a couple of them, which is simply a style preference), Sophie gladly re-edited them so they would be in alignment with what I was wanting. Couldn't be happier with the whole process!

My 15 month old son is a model and we recently had a job where we worked with Sophie and Michael. My son can be very shy with new people but he was so comfortable around them, and so was I. They truly are outstanding at what they do. We have booked a few other jobs with different photographers in the past and none of them have ever given us copies of the final product for my sons portfolio like Sophie and Michael did. With other photographers we always had to wait for the company to release the pictures online or wait for a catalog to be mailed to us just to get copies for our portfolio. I was extremely pleased with the way they interacted with my son and how quickly we got the finished pictures emailed to us. Sophie did such a great job getting my son to do what they needed him to do and Michael was great with the camera. I would highly recommend Sophie and Michael to anyone with children. I have never been so pleased with any other photographers that we've worked with. They are very professional yet still manage to make the job fun. I would work with both of them again in the future in a heartbeat and I would love to book a family photo shoot with them just for fun!! 5 stars all the way!! :)

LOVE Michael and Sophie's work. I asked them to take 6-mo old pics of our older daughter last year and again for our second daughter this year when she turned 6-mo old. We also had sibling portraits done this year and I was amazed at the results. My daughters are one year apart and my older daughter is curious and rambunctious - I was amazed that Michael and Sophie were able to get good pics of these 2! I think what sets them apart is that both are very good with young children, they work efficiently together so you get the most out of your session and having Sophie there to direct the children (instead of the frazzled parents like me directing their own children bc what do I know about that?) was a HUGE plus. I have friends who had to model/pose/distract their children while the photographer focuses on taking pictures, and that just makes it that much tougher on the parents. Not to mention that Sophie and Michael know exactly what kind of poses/shots they are aiming for. I cannot recommend these guys enough - the pictures are absolutely worth it.

We reserved a newborn photo session months in advance. We chose Michael and Sophie based on their online portfolio and reviews. Once our son was born we contacted Sophie and she quickly helped us schedule a session. We chose to go to their studio instead of having the photos taken in our home. Sophie gave us great advice on how to prepare our son and what we should wear for the family portion of the session to ensure we all looked good together. When we arrived Sophie and Michael made us feel very comfortable. Sophie is the baby whisperer! Our son slept for over an hour while Sophie positioned him into adorable poses that Michael captured. We received the images within a few weeks and they were all beautiful. Michael was very helpful with the ordering and made sure we got our prints and digital images quickly so we had them in time to send these lovely gifts to our families. We plan to do a family session with Michael and Sophie in the Spring/Summer to capture our little guy as he grows. We would highly recommend Michael and Sophie to expectant parents or anyone who wants some beautiful photos of their family.

Wow is an understatement! Amazing photography work from Michael and Sophie. They were like professional quiet flies on a wall (in and out with little distraction or disruption to our baby's sleep) but at the same time able to capture her brilliantly with minimal invasive equipment. We only wish our wedding photographers were this good. They understood all the technical aspects that come in this industry to make professional photography stand out from the rest (through lighting, depth of field, etc.) that most photographers today do not. I'm glad they don't do weddings because I would've regretted not hiring them if I could. Every photo looks magazine quality and my sister-in-law who's an Art major says some of the photos look so exquisite they belong in a museum. Some people might think it's a bit expensive but my theory is you get what you pay for and what we paid for will last us a lifetime. Why would you want to stare at something you're less than 100% satisfied with for the rest of your life? Your child is only young once so you'll never be able to capture that image of her/him again in the best possible setting people like Michael and Sophie can capture them in. Look and compare for yourself. My professors at the New York Film Academy did. In a photography lesson, they showed Michael's work and said "This is a person who knows what they're doing with the camera". Then they showed a photo of someone who did not. It really proved that a picture IS worth a thousand words. At least Michael's pictures are.

we just received our mini session family pictures and I love them! Kormos spent and took her time even if it was a little longer than she told me the session included! she got a lot of candid shots which was okay since I already knew photographing family pics w two toddlers was not going to be the easiest situation, especially first thing in the morning! she also gave me a few more photos than she told me she would include! price was very reasonable, and turnaround time was what she quoted (two weeks). she definitely went above and beyond! thank you again for capturing our family!!

My husband and I had a great experience with our maternity photo shoot with Michael and Sophie. We are usually camera shy and have a hard time posing for pictures but Michael and Sophie's professional and laid back manner created a much easier atmosphere for us to be in, in a very short amount of time. We booked a mini-shoot for our son close to his first birthday. Michael and Sophie were great! They were extremely patient in making our kid feel relaxed and comfortable and they came through with beautiful pictures. Because it was a mini-shoot, we were only expecting to receive 10 pictures max and were pleasantly surprised to get 15 images - all of them amazing. One thing I want to add is that the range of pictures Michael sent us struck me as very thoughtful. There were a variety of angles and poses so that the resulting batch of photos has a multitude of uses - family and baby pictures that are good for framing and to share with relatives but also a few close up, more artistic shots that would work well as a cluster arrangement on a living room wall. I really appreciated this b/c it means that every image you receive has its own purpose and nothing goes to waste. I've had friends receive tons of images from their photo shoots only to end up using the same few over and over b/c all the images are somewhat similar. I would highly recommend Michael Kormos if you're looking for a family or baby photographer.

Michael and Sophie came to our apartment to photograph our newborn son. From the moment they arrived they made us feel special and comfortable. Sophie in particular was fantastic with our newborn, who was slightly fussy during the middle of the photo shoot, but Sophie calmed him down with ease. The resulting photographs are stunning, and are some of the best family pictures we have! Michael was fast on the draw, capturing our son in adorable poses on only a moments notice before he moved or became fussy. We definitely appreciated the ease and comfort of the photo shoot, and Michael and Sophie are true professionals in every sense of the word. Our only regret was that we did not hire them for our wedding! We cannot recommend them enough; if you're thinking of getting photos taken of your newborn/family, you can't ask for better photographers. We LOVED our newborn photo-shoot with Michael! I research photographers for a long time. I was looking for a someone who specifically did newborns and would come to my house. Michael and Sophie arrived with beautiful props and all the equipment for an in home shoot. They were extremely friendly and immediately made me feel comfortable putting our 3 day old baby in their hands. They incorporated props that I had and also gladly included our dog in our shoot. The photos came absolutely beautiful- all of our extended family is obsessed with all of the photos and not just because of the subject. They truly captured unique shots with our precious newborn. I was also incredibly impressed by the presentation of the things they sent in the mail for the shoot. after you book, they send the most gorgeous information card, full of everything you'd want to know. The photos were ready promptly after 3 weeks, and I immediately received the beautifully packaged 5x7's in the mail. Additionally, we received the USB drive which is creatively designed with their logo, to not be confused with any others. I am currently designing my birth announcement and having difficulty narrowing down which pictures to choose because there are so many great ones! I can't wait to use Michael again for a shoot for my daughter in the future!!!!
