I wanted to share my recent experience at Carlos Alvarado Jr's Portraiture Workshop. First off, it was an honor to meet and participate in Carlos Alvarado Jr's workshop. Carlos is a humble and approachable photographer. The workshop was very thorough and heavy on information. Carlos didn't hold back anything. From start to finish, Carlos walked the students in the workshop through each photograph and light setup. Carlos didn't just say watch what I do, he walked the class through the concept, make-up, light setup, camera settings, and posing of his subject to get his final photograph. Every step of the way, Carlos took time to stop and answer all questions that were asked of him from why choosing particular camera settings to lens recommendations for a particular setup. One of the best aspects of the workshop was the hands on portion. I have been to other workshops in the past where I only had an opportunity to observe what was going on. In Carlos' workshop, it's all hands on deck. All participants had ample time to shoot each light setup as well as receive one to one coaching by Carlos to overcome any technical problems or questions that arose during the photo shoot. Some of the subjects discussed included exposure triangle, operation of a light meter, equipment usage, light modifiers, model posing, wardrobe, lighting setups, and studio workflow. I learned a tremendous amount during the workshop from Carlos, the models, Make-Up Artist, and workshop participants. Carlos is an outstanding photographer and very knowledgeable instructor with the ability to convey his knowledge and experience in an effective manner. I highly recommend attending Carlos Alvarado Photography's workshops and hiring Carlos as a photographer.

My husband and I just got married on April 20, 2017. Having Carlos Alvarado as our photographer was one of the best decisions we could have made. He took such care of making sure every tiny detail was captured so intricately and beautifully. Unlike other stories I've heard about other wedding photographers, Carlos and his partner Gary were like photo ninjas, capturing the best candid moments I didn't even realize they could get, and were never ever an imposition on the ceremony or reception. Every time one of my friends or family sees our first dance shot, they are flabbergasted at how perfect it is, as if we had staged it. Carlos is THAT good. We are so incredibly grateful to him to have given us these forever memories of this first huge step in our lives. It is absolutely apparent how much Carlos loves what he does, because that translates so perfectly in his photographs. My one qualm with him: he got SO MANY good shots, my husband and I have no idea what we're going to choose for albums...

Carlos was an amazing photographer. He was very professional, attentive and careful. From our initial meeting, to our engagement photos and finally to our wedding date, our experience was nothing less than stellar. He was always available to answer questions and discuss our concerns, whenever we called. Carlos was always on time and willing and open to our ideas as well, which was very much appreciated at times. His photography is on point! He provided us with some unique shots for both our engagement session and for our wedding, which we continue to get compliments on several months later.
