Kami took our family photos this Fall and the experience was more than I could have expected. She immediately captivated my two young sons and had them eating out of the palm of her hand. She let us choose our location and wander to a few different places to keep the session fresh and spontaneous. Her care with my family was remarkable. I never felt like I had to pose or look a certain way or be something that we were not. When I saw the images I suddenly saw the impact of her relaxed approach. She captured my kids at their best, truly doing what they loved and being themselves. You can see the love my husband and I have for our family because she froze moments in time that were 100% natural and authentic. I was struck by how we had so much to choose from and such a wide variety of "stories." I can see my kids' personalities coming through the camera. That is such a gift. I also feel like I now have images of who my husband and I are, at our essence, when we are parenting these two boys. I feel certain that these are images that will be in our family for generations. I hope that when I am long gone, my grandchildren will show their grandchildren these photos and tell them, "this was what my grandma was like."

Found: Capturer of Lifetime Memories! A Holiday Family Portrait is a tradition in my wife’s family. Sounded like torture to me, but my wife is so passionate about it that I brought my best holiday cheer and widest smile back in 2012. Kami showed up to our door, equipment in tow, just as 6 year old Sofie’s grown up dress shoes resulted in a cartwheel down the stairs. After the standard parental worry for our daughter, the next thought was, “This photographer is going to be so annoyed.” But nope. Not then, and not when we made a last minute decision to leave the house and go to an outdoor site 10 minutes away. And not when we had to traipse in new fallen snow. And not when the children were being … um, children. And the pictures? Almost a year later, unsolicited, at least a handful of friends said they were looking forward to our new holiday card since the last one was still posted on some frig or bulletin board, having been the best picture/card of All Time. (No, really: g u s h i n g.) So now it’s my tradition too. And since then, our families and our kids have intersected in many ways in the community and so I get it: Kami is a mother and a wife first, a friend second, and an amazing photographer third. But moreover, I get this too: 100 years from now, when we are gone but stories of our family live on, it will be the joy and love that Kami so skillfully captures that will be worth the thousand words that narrate our lives.

I cannot say enough good things about Kami. We had a family session with her a few years ago on the beach that resulted in the most magical and incredible photos. More recently, Kami came to my home for a boudoir shoot. Doing something like this was VERY far outside my comfort zone, and I could not have done it with anyone else. From the moment I proposed the idea to her, she was incredibly supportive and reassuring. She helped me with the daunting task of selecting a wardrobe and shared ideas of the kinds of images we could try. She connected me with an amazing hair and makeup artist, and encouraged me to think about this as a gift to myself. Obviously, doing a session like this does not come naturally to most people, and Kami put me at ease immediately. She was complimentary and encouraging, and showed me exactly what to do to enhance my best features. She took the time to make sure I looked my best, and the images are absolutely incredible. They were meant to be very private, but they were so fantastic, I ended up showing them to many of my friends (and even some of my family!). I have never felt more beautiful, and it’s amazing to realize that these photos are of ME. They are genuine and natural. They capture my personality perfectly, and brought out a confidence I have really struggled to find. I will never be able to adequately thank Kami for the gift she gave to me … being able to see myself through different eyes. She is a phenomenal person, and an even better photographer.

My husband and I absolutely ADORE Kami! She has been such a delight to work with for our maternity session and our newborn session. During the shoots, she came in with so much energy and just has the sweetest heart. She gives great direction on posing which is important to me. She was amazingly helpful with our little one and even helped us with holding our baby and calming him down during the newborn session! (Not to mention she is an expert swaddler!!) She is focused yet patient and took so many creative shots and even covered the few I had in mind and requested. As she photographed my nine day old son, she made soothing noises in his ear, manipulated him gently, and kept the room super warm to make him comfortable. For her, it was not just the pictures, it was the experience. She came SO prepared-bringing all the props, backups in case of naked baby "oopsies", a heater, a white noise machine...things I never would have even thought of. I am thrilled with the way my newborn's photos came out-as a mom, it's always hard to hold onto those first few precious days but now I have them forever thanks to the talents of Kami Friday Photography.
