My family and I spent a week near Acadia in August, and we wanted to have some family photos taken around my son's first birthday. Rogier picked a wonderful location that was beautiful and private. He was also accommodating and flexible, which was helpful because it took my son a little while to warm up to having photos taken. The photos that Rogier took were beautiful, and we will treasure them! I highly recommend Rogier!

Eager Eye Photography made our wedding day into a perfect one ! We celebrated our wedding in Acadia - a small but very special event. Rogier and Jenn both were at our wedding ceremony, with Jenn performing the ceremony and taking photographs and Rogier leading the photography. They both arrived 30 min early and took photographs of the preparation, the ceremony and the celebration. Their personal approach and warmth allowed everyone to be at ease, resulting in “real life” pictures, with natural face expressions of our guests and family. The group photographs were originally composed, and will serve as a wonderful memory of our wedding. A lot of laughter and fun while coming up with the perfect pictures. The quality of the images, and superbe turn around with final pictures within 24-48 hours was outstanding ! I highly recommend Rogier and Jenn and Eager Eye Photography.

My husband and I worked with Eager Eye Photographer this past July for our wedding in Acadia National Park. We cannot say enough about how wonderful our experience was working with Rogier. We planned a small, informal wedding ceremony with about ten close family members and in just about 2 months from our home state of Connecticut. We found Eager Eye online through Acadia websites, and actually referred by other photographers in the area; he graciously accepted our last minute request. Rogier took the time to learn about us and what we had hoped to receive through his services, and outlined his process and what to expect working in working with him and on the day of the wedding. Given that we don’t live in Maine and didn’t have time to meet with him ahead of time, it was very comforting knowing we were getting the utmost professional services combined with a photographer who truly wanted to ensure our special day was captured exactly how we wanted it to be. Rogier was creative, thorough, and made two people who really do not love being in photos feel comfortable. We actually enjoyed the experience! He even expressed how much he appreciated being able to be a part of the day. My husband and I would absolutely recommend using Eager Eye Photographer and hope to be able to use his services again! We are so unbelievably glad that we selected Eager Eye for our wedding photographs. From our first peek at his portfolio, we were in love with Rogier's style and artistry, and from the first contact, we knew that he was someone with whom we would really enjoy working. Although clearly a professional, he has an easy manner that is welcoming and really helped to take any stress out of the process. We had a fairly small affair, and he answered every question with lightning speed and worked with us to create a package that met our wishes. He met us at our venue when we arrived in Northeast Harbor the afternoon before the wedding to go over details for the day of and ensure that everything went without a hitch on our wedding day. Rogier and Mark were extremely prompt (early, even), courteous, and fun to work with! They were thorough, capturing the tiniest details, but so unobtrusive that I don't even know how they got the wonderful shots they did, because we never noticed that they were there unless they spoke to us!! Rogier's background in photojournalism allowed him to tell the story of our day without it ever feeling staged. He and Mark got so many absolutely stunning shots that are natural and organic but lack nothing in the artistry department, which fit perfectly with the style of photography we desired. He delivered more than promised, incredibly quickly, and the quality of the images is simply OUTSTANDING. We cannot recommend Eager Eye highly enough, and we only hope we have the pleasure of being able to utilize Rogier's talent again in the future!

I can't say enough about Eager Eye Photography! The pictures were absolutely amazing!!! Rogier captured all of the special moments of our day and more! The pictures looked lifelike and were such high quality. We got every shot that we wanted and more. Rogier has a wonderful eye for artist pictures and captured some truly lovely moments. Rogier was very easy to work with. He answered all of my questions in a timely manner. We even met for a beer before the wedding to go over all of the details. He not only covered our big day but he covered family events before and after the wedding. We got great shots from these events as well. He always arrived early. His assistant, Debra, was lovely as well. We received our wedding photos before the promised deadline and he even included more photos then the agreement called for. I asked for a few extra photos of flowers and things and Rogier found them and added them within an hour of my request. I couldn't have been happy with Eager Eye Photography. Rogier was very professional and the quality of photos are abouslutly amazing!!! We have so many precious memories captured because of him. We booked Rogier for some company photos while we were in Bar Harbor, ME on a business/pleasure trip. Only gave a couple days notice and asked for him to come on a Sunday morning. He was 100% on board with the short notice and the day. We also received our photos, that were perfect, late that day since we were in a hurry. He was very professional but fun at the same time. He had us relaxed and in a variety of poses and lighting quickly and professionally. Brought everything he needed and we just had to bring ourselves. I can't say enough about this photographer. We would use him any time we possibly could! You won't be disappointed if you choose Eager Eye Photography!!

He was pleasant and professional while courting our business, but was very difficult to work with once the wedding was over. We cannot recommend Rogier or Eager Eye as a result. He breached several terms in our agreement, and was unapologetic. For example, he was beyond late in delivering photos, and even then he made up excuses and only sent a partial number. We honored all terms of the agreement and even paid 100% before the event. We do not recommend that after our experience. When we shared feedback on the photos (e.g., blurriness, missing key photos, etc.), he became defensive. When we asked for the status of our photographs or the book that was included as part of the package, he was slow to respond, and when he did, most responses included excuses.

Rogier is absolutely amazing. We were a bit unique and had him take photos for our engagement in Acadia National Park. Not only did he capture the moment, we did an engagement photo shoot afterwards for an additional hour. He kept us in touch the entire process, even drove out the day before to the spot to make sure he wouldnt missthe moment at sunrise in the park. A true professional who's talents radiated from the shoot. He even went over almost an hour to make sure we got all the best parts of the park at sunrise. The quality of the images were absolutely stunning; I am a photographer myself and the work he did with the lighting that we had, was unbelievable. I still do not know how he did what he did with that camera, pure magic! Finally, we were fortunate that he took time out of his morning and edited the photos that day. We can't say enough about Rogier and his work and would highly recommend Eager Eye photography for your event as he made ours magical!

I highly recommend Rogier van Bakel to anyone who wants a mindful, talented, and thorough wedding photographer. The pictures were absolutely stunning and wonderful. But beyond even that - he was extremely flexible and helpful both before, during, and after our wedding ceremony. When we had a last minute issue and had to move up the ceremony time, he did not even hesitate to accommodate us (relieving us of so much stress!). During the planning process he provided us with numerous suggestions for ceremony locations. He was more than happy to field our many, varied picture requests (including climbing on rocks with us). Rogier even got our finished pictures done ahead of schedule AND included more than were required per the contract. In general, he is a considerate, fun person to work with!

Rogier was amazing and very accommodating. He was not intrusive when taking photos and allowed us to determine which groups we wanted. When my husband and I left the cocktail hour to go take pictures on our own we felt 100% comfortable being ourselves and enjoying the moment. We did not order an album, so I can't review on album quality, but we do have the chance to order prints if we so desire (which we probably will!). Rogier shot a variety of images, not just of myself and my husband, but of our wedding guests as well. All in all, everyone was courteous, respectful, timely, and kind. The pictures are both artful and technically proficient. We received the photos a week earlier than the previously discussed deadline and Rogier delivered us 80% more photos than agreed upon. We are more than happy with our choice in Eager Eye Photography!

Rogier took our family's photos in July of 2019. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish and the pictures are beautiful! We vacation in Maine each summer and have been wanting professional family photos. I found Rogier online, emailed him, and he replied quickly. I booked pretty far in advance, so we only needed to communicate a few times before the week we arrived. Rogier suggested some great locations for pictures and was also open to where we wanted to go. We settled on two locations - both his suggestions. We spoke in the morning of our scheduled session to confirm the time/location; weather was looking a little suspect. Rogier also texted me about an hour before to confirm, because the weather was definitely going to cooperate after all. We were a large group - 14 people - Gramma; kids; kids' spouses; and grandkids, aged 2-18. Rogier was wonderful with the whole group, and we're so happy with our photos! He captured everyone's personalities and we somehow ended up with multiple group shots of all 14 of us with our eyes open and smiling - and with a beautiful Maine background. Rogier emailed us our gallery and digital download two weeks after our photo session, just like he said he would. I highly recommend Eager Eye and Rogier!

Working with Rogier has been a real pleasure from the first day we contacted him. He's punctual, flexible, and as we've learnt from other vendors at our wedding is well-known in Bar Harbor for his skills. We were particularly drawn to him for two reasons. First, while looking very professional and well-composed, his photos are not excessively edited, and retain a natural look and feel to them. Second, being a Maine resident, he knows the Acadia National Park area in and out and was able to offer some very valuable suggestions. Rogier stayed true to his motto: underpromise and overdeliver. While his contract terms are more than reasonable and standard for his industry, he goes above and beyond to deliver photographs ahead of schedule, and included significantly more shots that we've agreed to. The amazing part - he delivered pictures for our smaller wedding in less than 12 hours after completing the photo shoot! Waking up to an email with a link to our wedding pictures gallery the next morning was such an incredible gift. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a photographer in the area.

When planning your wedding, one of the most important things (to me) was the photographer. Pictures last forever and I think finding the best wedding photographer should be a top priority. I was lucky enough to have met Rogier van Bakel years ago at my sister’s wedding. Back then I was a bridesmaid. I’m sure I can speak for all the bridesmaids (and bride) and say that we absolutely loved working with Rogier. I was so impressed by the quality of his work, that as soon as I got engaged I told my fiancé I wanted him for our garden wedding. I excitingly emailed Rogier and soon after I had booked him for the big day. Rogier and I mostly communicated through emails. He was always quick to respond, pleasant, and very helpful in answering my questions. On the day of the wedding, Rogier and his assistant Doug arrived right on time. I greeted him but was quickly pulled away by my flower girl/stepdaughter who needed help with her dress. Rogier immediately started snapping pictures of the two of us and I ended up with a sweet picture of my stepdaughter and I. Rogier truly has an eye for capturing precious moments. Most of the time, you don’t even notice he’s there. He is so fast in capturing those in-the-moment shots. Not one single picture felt posed or inauthentic. His photos were artistic, candid and above all, fun! My favorite photo was when Rogier took us through the Maine woods. As we trudged through bushes and branches, we finally came to a clearing. Standing in the middle of wild grass that reached our elbows, Rogier snapped away. The result was a breathtaking and visually stunning picture. I received my photos only ten days (!) after the wedding. My husband and I absolutely love our wedding pictures. Whenever we look at them it puts a big smile on our faces. I cannot recommend Rogier enough. His talent speaks for itself. He truly captured the joy, laughter and love of our special day!

Ten years ago Rogier van Bakel (Eager Eye Photography) photographed our wedding. We love the pictures he took, literally enjoying them every day on a digital frame and printed in a gorgeous album on our coffee table and felt we should thank him again with a review. When we hear a friend is getting married, after congratulating them, the first thing we advise them to do is to book Rogier as their photographer! Before our wedding we looked at the websites of a couple of dozen Maine photographers and choose Rogier based on his portfolio and a conversation we had with him on the phone. We were very lucky, he was easy to have at our small wedding and we love his pictures! Having worked for years as a professional photographer (and being a bit of a perfectionist) I had very high expectations. Rogier was wonderful to work with, met with Jen and I, listened to what we wanted and did a spectacular job of capturing the day. Rogier did a fabulous job of editing the images, and presented us with the final pictures before we had time to leave for our honeymoon! We were so glad that we chose Eager Eye Photography to document our wedding. Rogier and Jen were both incredibly professional. They came to our venue early to get an idea of where to shoot pictures and covered each of us before the ceremony. It’s important to get two photographers to really capture all the details and people, especially if you are inviting more than a few dozen guests, and especially if the bride and groom are going to be in separate places before the ceremony. Rogier and Jen did a fantastic job of capturing the emotions of the day in vivid, photojournalistic detail. After the wedding, they did a perfect job of following up. They sent us 26 of the best photos just 48 hours after the wedding and had 200 more ready a week later. The rest (a total of 600+) were ready way ahead of the schedule laid out in our contract, and the number of photos was also well above our expectation. In all our in-person and long-distance interactions, Rogier and Jen were very personable, friendly, and never aggressive with us or our guests. Rogier had fun getting creative, and it is evident that his work is his passion. We strongly recommend Eager Eye’s wedding photography and can’t wait to see our album!

We are so happy that we found Eager Eye Photography! My wife and I are so thankful that we had Rogier and Jen of Eager Eye Photography to capture the memories of our wedding day! After scouring over countless wedding photography websites and reviews (like this one), I happened upon the Eager Eye and knew immediately that we had found our photographer(s). Rogier’s background as a photojournalist—his commitment to telling a story through his work—and his Vermeer-like sense of light and composition are what grabbed me. The website says that Eager Eye “specializes in out-of-the-ordinary wedding photography, serving non-traditional, non-stuffy clients”—that is definitely us! My wife and I had planned a casual, family-focused beachside ceremony with lots of playful DIY touches. The moment I reached out to Rogier and described our wedding vision, he was excited to be a part of it: “I cannot wait to photograph you wedding…it’s going to be beautiful.” From the beginning, Rogier was easy to talk to and very prompt in his communication/accessible. (The first time we spoke by phone, he was in Hong Kong and it was midnight but, he was happy to talk to this nervous bride-to-be). Without an opportunity to meet in person before our wedding weekend (we live in Western Mass), Rogier was flexible and stayed in regular contact by phone and email to make sure that everything was prepared. Rogier went the extra mile to truly get to know us as a couple—asking thoughtful questions about our interests, how we met, etc and also requested candid photos of us so that he could study our faces/understand what angles and poses might work best for us. We appreciated this as we are both typically a bit camera shy. By wedding day, Rogier felt like an old friend not someone we were meeting for the first time. He and Jen arrived early to the ceremony site to scope out the layout and the spots with the best lighting. They were extremely friendly and warm—mingling seamlessly with our guests and moving like choreographed dancers from location to location to capture all of the special moments. My wife and I were so pleased to have Rogier and Jen at our big day as it allowed for many moments to be photographed simultaneously (my wife and I getting dressed in different parts of the house, photos of our guests before the ceremony, etc). Rogier and Jen are Professionals with a capital ‘P’—helping to gather and organize large family shots, giving advice on how to position ourselves to capture the best light and angles, how to use a bouquet to hide a less-than-flat tummy, and even kneeling down in a marshy patch of beach grass to get the perfect photo. I was told by another area photographer (who also happened to work part time at our reception venue) that Rogier is the premiere photographer in Down East Maine—now I know why! As someone who has recently lost a parent, I have come to realize just how important photographs are—transporting you back in time to relive happy moments. We received our beautiful online album in just a few short weeks after our wedding. My wife and I are still amazed at how many special moments, details, faces, etc Rogier and Jen were able to capture (and so many of them were ones that we were unaware of/had missed on the day). Rogier and Jen gave us the complete visual story of our wedding—told from so many viewpoints. Let Eager Eye be your ‘eyes’ on your special day, you won’t regret it.

My family and I just had our session with Rogier during our family vacation in Bar Harbor. We could not be happier with the entire experience. Rogier's work for us has been first class: his photographs are superb, his timing impeccable and he is completely honest in everything he does - whether it be coming in on budget or making sure all the little extras are done without charge. We asked him to shoot a family portrait for our parents 50th wedding anniversary. To start, he had to get 9 people coordinated and smiling (which he did with ease), but then we explained that we wanted him to shoot it from a boat. "Not a problem at all" he replied and he spent the next hour leaning over the side of a moving boat in the fading twilight - the results are wonderful. He made everyone feel at home (not easy with multiple families and three generations) and went out of his way to offer suggestions as well as shoot pictures we requested. His after shoot service was equally strong: he immediately had pictures back to us, was happy to get us extra pictures and "tweaks" at no cost and was a real gentleman to work with. We highly recommend Rogier and will use him again with pleasure.

Rogier is a true professional. After searching endlessly for a good wedding photographer up here in Maine, we found some Eager Eye Albums at the Lucern Inn and knew he was the guy immediately. His work is fantastic, and working with him is a joy. He captured some exceedingly emotional moments, in addition to all the old standbys. It rained dreadfully at our wedding, and Rogier offered a makeup session, which turned out to be a stunning series of photographs. I would recommend him to anyone.

If you want to have the most beautiful wedding photography you could imagine, this is the way to go! Rogier excels at taking natural-looking photos throughout the day. I am not the best at posing, so I rarely look my best in formal photos... And this was not a problem, because he discreetly took pictures throughout the day when we were barely aware he was looking on, capturing the moments we looked amazing. Our wedding involved a lot of walking between locations, all very scenic, and we have the best pictures of walking through cobblestone streets, over bridges, and of all of our guests walking with us. He documented all the little crises that are already fun stories - realizing we forgot the tie at the hairdresser's, walking there to pick it up, adjusting it in the shop, and the time I lost an earring and a guest went barefoot hoping to find it by stepping on it (it was eventually found!) - but thankfully not the less-fun crises (when we were genuinely worried we had lost someone). We have beautiful documentation of moments I was not even expecting to find in the pictures - waving to our friends who were joining us, hugging them - so much better than posed portraits! It was such a pleasure to see the moment I first saw my friend's baby! I believe the photography on the website speaks for itself! The portraits as a couple we did the previous day were also wonderful and took a lot of time pressure off of the actual day so we were able to fully enjoy it without worrying about posing and were able to stay in the moment all day long. Rogier shot my proposal to my now fiancé atop Cadillac Mountain and I cannot say enough good things about him or his work. We hired Rogier and second shooter Daryn to photograph our pre-wedding bowling party and wedding day at Point Lookout in Northport, ME. It was a destination wedding for us. These guys were consummate professionals. Rogier knew just the questions to ask us before the event. He even asked us to send him casual pictures of ourselves that we like, to get a sense of "us". He was available to talk on the phone when we needed to talk, and he drove hours to meet us when we were up in Maine to scope things out before the wedding. He always responded promptly. Rogier was well prepared to shoot. He was early to our bowling night and did all he could to get the best shots- he'd already set up flashes by the time we arrived (and we were early). On wedding day he and Daryn again went the extra mile to get the best shots. Daryn scrambled over rocks to get some amazing shots of us and Rogier figured out just the right spots to shoot as the sun was very quickly setting and the light was changing. They both worked hard and were extremely committed throughout the event. Of course the most important measure is the pictures we got. They're incredible. The quality of shots is fantastic. Compared to pictures guests shot, and it's remarkable the contrast. Rogier's photos are crystal clear, uncluttered, have amazing color and contrast. They are well framed. These pictures will last us a lifetime and always bring us happiness. We're very glad we picked Rogier. What makes a good photographer? A lot of people would say the photographs and they'd be absolutely right, but what makes a great photographer is the ability to capture not only an image, but the true emotion behind it. Someone who can blend in with a crowd and catch those subtle moments when you thought nobody was looking, to catch the natural expressions of joy and happiness on your faces. Rogier has that ability. At our wedding on 17 September 2010, we had the unexpected pleasure of having Rogier there to photograph the event and we could not have been more pleased. Our photographer, a colleague of Rogier, was ill on the day of our wedding and was unable to make it. As the bride, I slightly panicked when I heard the news that we’d have a “replacement” photographer the morning of my wedding. My anxiety quickly melted away when I met Rogier. He immediately fit it; as my mom said “it was like he was meant to be there.” His soft spoken voice and calm presence made him very easy and such a pleasure to work with. He guided us through the various settings and make sure that we had all of the photos we wanted in the places that we wanted them. Throughout the day, both before and after the ceremony, Rogier was around subtly taking photos of us and our guests, capturing the true essence of the day without all of the guests and wedding party always feeling they were on camera! With such a full schedule, it was great to have someone so easy to work with. We’ve heard nothing but compliments from our friends and family regarding Rogier’s professionalism and friendly personality. As for the photos, we are beyond happy with the way they have come out thus far. Rogier was able to capture the shots we wanted and so much more. We'll be able to treasure our special day and revisit each wonderful moment forever thanks to his work!

My family had a fantastic experience with Rogier of Eager Eye Photography at our photo shoot to celebrate my parent's 50th wedding anniversary. Leading up to the shoot, Rogier was receptive to questions and responded to email queries within 24 hours (usually much faster!). When he arrived to my parent's house, Rogier took the time to explore the property and select a few areas that would serve as different backdrops and then went out of his way to make us all feel comfortable (we aren't ones who seek out the camera). We are thrilled with the results and are still deciding which photographs we would like to order from the digital files that we were sent and could download. After a session in August 2017 with Rogier, we now have a wonderful set of photos by which to remember an absolutely outstanding week together on the island. Rogier was flexible, accommodating, put all of us -- two boomers, three millennials -- at ease, photographed us as casually as we really are and in all the sub groups we had requested. He engaged our physicist son in a discussion of photo optics. He engaged our European-dwelling son and daughter-in-law with some of his own stories from Holland. And the parents? Rogier shot our October wedding at French's Point in Stockton Springs and I cannot speak highly enough about him. Right from his initial response to our inquiry, to our pre-wedding conversations, to the wedding day itself, and through his delivery of our images, Rogier's attention and care for our wedding photos was exceptional. We were eloping to Acadia National Park in Maine and initially planned to pass our phones to the reverend to get some pictures. A friend of ours had eloped earlier in the year and said getting a photographer was the best decision they made.
