Good knowledgeable staff. However I just got two very different stories on a Sony pre-order at the Boulder store so very disappointing. First rendition was I could get on the list for 100 bucks. When I went in, it was pay in full or minimum 1/2 (1000.00) or stay at the bottom of the list. I mean, I might as well wait for them to show up at Best Buy and pay for a product vs vapor.

Amazing photography store. Best prices of town. Recently I started to shoot analogical pictures and this place has the best prices to print them. Reveal a film it's $7 and then 0.24 cents per picture. You can choose between a matte or a bright finished. There are special prices if you are student at University of Colorado Boulder. Recommended!! :)

Brought in a picture to be digitally restored because I had used Mike's in the past and they did an excellent job! This time, I explained to the person doing the intake that I needed it to be a rush job and that if that wasn't a possibility, I had another plan. I was told that it would most likely be ready the same day (yesterday) and if not, by the end of today. When I called late today, I was informed that the person doing the work was off today and tomorrow! There's some effort to make it happen by tomorrow, but I am not overly optimistic. No phone calls from anyone and a special birthday gift for my brother is not likely to happen! What in the world has happened to the concept of communication and customer service?!!

This is s great photo store. I have had a 1963 photo restored from a faded photo to bright colors again. It was expensive ($90) but worth it! I have also had metal and plastic photo freestanding frames made and they look amazing! Those were a great price ($14 for a 6x6).

Really great service from John Wendel at Mike's Camera in Boulder. He was patient and thorough in showing all camera possibilities. After several visits and trying everything on for size, the Canon M50 did the trick. When the M50 kit I wanted wasn't available, John worked with me to basically create the kit. I recently encountered every photographers worst nightmare...a corrupted card! I was in crises mode and took my sd card to Mikes Camera in hopes that they could help me. I worked with Leah, who from the start made me feel less stressed about the whole thing. She explained the whole process to me and what I could expect in the best or the worst scenario. I left my card with her and crossed my fingers for the best. Leah called me later that afternoon and was able to find my images and save them for me! I seriously can't thank Leah and Mike's Camera enough for being there to assist and save the day (the wedding day to be exact)! I will definitely recommend and refer anyone I know to Mike's Camera and continue to buy my equipment from them!

Kudos and thanks to John Lemaster at Mike's Camera for saving my bacon. I had an important shoot coming up and a weird setting was messing up the ability to sync with the studio strobes. I dashed into Mike's on a busy afternoon. The only available sales person knew this oddity wasn't her thing. She managed to nab John for me. It took about 40 minutes, but he fixed things up. I say this often...don't be swayed by slightly lower online pricing. When you buy at Mike's Camera you are buying the after-sale support that comes from experienced, knowledgeable staff. That support is priceless.

I've had three unpleasant experiences at Mike's. The first: I rented a Sony rx10 last month (a fixed-lens camera) and the rental guy tried to rent me an additional lens as well. I didn't know the rx10 was fixed-lens, I just needed something 4k and apparently the rental guy didn't know that rx10 was fixed-lens either... Second experience, I tried trading in my like-new Canon 70d with three Canon EF lenses and they offered me 257... FOR STORE CREDIT. This is incredibly low and you can sell the 70d body for $300 for cash. After stating that it was incredibly low, the woman said that "we try to flip them around for profit." Which I totally get, but 257 is waaaay too low an offer for mere store credit. Thirdly, their cam equipment in there is pretty overpriced. They were selling a steady cam $100 more than its price online. I love supporting local business and prefer the in-person buying experience, but I'd rather shop online than shop at Mike's. I have not been met with the desired camera knowledge from any of the employees and their gear is selling waaaay above online prices. Happily taking suggestions for other camera stores in the Boulder/Denver area, otherwise my business is going to B&H or Amazon for all my camera gear.

Do yourself a favor, buy your photo equipment and tripods from Mike’s Camera in Boulder. The manager Ken knows how to take care of customers! I had an issue with a product, was out of the normal return period, after telling Ken my issue- he said due to the manufactures backing of their product - he could replace my unit free of charge! Best experience in customer service I have had in a long, long time! Thanks Ken!!! I will shop at Mike’s in the future and I recommend everyone do the same.

Went in looking for an overnight bag that could fit my full frame kit but was a little disappointed with the selection that was available. Ended up chatting with the staff about their hiking gear. They were friendly, helpful, and patient. Also checked out the Olympus E-M1 ii and, even though they were busy, the clerk behind the counter kept coming back to check on me and answer questions. Was very happy with my experience. If you're looking for a lot of gear, this may not be the right place, but they're more than happy to help you find what you need. Would recommend.

Pricey but worth the satisfaction of buying local and getting solid advice on your purchases. Plenty of parking available. Tight aisles so keep small kids by the hand. Keep strollers in your car.

Mikes has knowledgeable staff and product. That said, they are more expensive. You are getting a human face on your purchase, as well as a resource for helping with any issues, questions, and so on. I remember Mikes being the go-to for color prints in the 1960's. They are still here, which says a lot!

Great place for the photographer in you. Prices are fair on most products and there are some good prices on commonly used stuff. Good selection of cameras and lenses but this is where you have to be smart as you can find cheaper prices online. If you are in need of something fast and have to have it today, I wouldn't hesitate to head here. Tons of video gear as well, lights, tripods, etc.

If you are a professional or a serious enthusiast stay away from this place. They lack the most basic professionalism, don’t risk your hard work with them!! I did a 2 month long project on analogue medium format with a pretty big budget which got in serious risk because of this place. My project started in the USA and finished in Mexico, but because I had called in advance to make sure their times and rates I decided to develop the film in Boulder before I went back to Europe which would have involved another 4 security x-rays, putting my negatives in more risk. I could have developed my film in Mexico, but because they seemed serious I put them on 2 plane rides.. The staff first assured me that they would develop and scan the same day, then when I brought my film on a tuesday morning, the person on turn told me it wouldn’t be ready the same day, and that because of one bank holiday the film would take till Friday to be ready, I told the staff that my flight was on the same Friday and that it was incredibly important for it to be ready.. I called Thursday evening and the person on the phone assured me they would be ready for the Friday morning. So when I came in on Friday to pick them up THEY HADN’T EVEN DEVELOPED THEM! I was flying in a few hours and this place had done nothing! They managed to develop them in a couple of hours, obviously could have done that 2 days before, didnt even start scanning them and then charged me FULL PRICE for the developing. The assistant manager didn't even apologize, just one poor sales clerk lady that seemed to care. Don’t risk your work in this mediocre, at best place, if you have any option at all. The people that work there have no idea of what’s going on, and the management obviously have never worked with professionals.

There are no longer one hour photo stops around like there used to be. It feels like film is dying. If you go to walgreens they print on paper that couldnt compete with a napkin with quality that couldnt compete with a 5 year old with crayons. Mikes is awesome. Their print quality is incredible, they are knowledgable, their "membership" actually gets you pretty great deals. They might be the last Alamo of film!

Cool place to rent Camara equipment. Rent it and see if you like it. That way you'll know exactly what you love or hate about the brand makes and modles, making it easier to choose what you want to buy. The bad is that they don't have a Mike's Camara up north , i have to travel a long way just to get to Mike's camera.

I had the same experience as someone else on this board. I am shopping for an SLR camera, but don't want to do it onlne because I have small hands and I need to feel how the camera handles before I buy it. I stood at the counter where the cameras are for about 10 minutes and watched sales people just pass me by. Yes, they were busy, but someone should have said hello and said they would be with me when they could. I felt snubbed. I have money to spend on a camera, but it's obviously not good enough to spend at Mike's.

I visited Mike's this week for the first time. I had a lot of questions about how best to archive digitally old Super 8 film, and 35mm slides. I was starting with very limited data. I spent nearly an hour with Mac, who educated me in archiving of these materials. He even took me up to the tech guys to evaluate the various materials I had. Mac did a GREAT job. By the end of the hour I had a concrete plan for how to proceed. So this archiving project which had been languishing for a decade not only became possible, but became possible faster, easier, with a higher quality than I might have imagined. The repair department always helps me out with a quick turnaround since I'm from outside of the area and can't leave it multiple days. One thing that is a bummer is they didn't get my lenses wiped super clean last time I had them detailed. I'm guessing that was an isolated incident and will continue to take my camera back for cleaning and maintenance at Mike's.

I needed my Nikon DSLR fixed and there are few real camera repair places left these days. Mike's has been around a long time and has a great reputation for knowing cameras and photography. I trusted them with my repair and they came through fast (3 days) and got it right the first time.

I ordered a custom metal print online. I got to the store, looked at the print and it was extremely grainy and the employee said I can either leave it or buy it and if I change my mind I can return it. It was a gift for my boyfriend, he opened it and literally said “this looks like shit” I brought it back to the store and talked to a manager Ken as the employee told me to in order to get a refund, and Ken was extremely rude, telling me that it’s absolutely my fault for uploading this picture (that is crystal clear on the computer) and he will refuse a refund. He said the owners probably wouldn’t be okay with it and they’re out of town anyways. Absolutely terrible customer service. I spent $130 on the print and instead of getting a call that my image wouldn’t work on this print, they sold it to me and won’t refund me. I was told he will ask the owners what they think and get back to me sometime? I’m moving out of state this week and I don’t even want a new print I just want my money back. If the owners are reading this please give Ken a lesson in customer service. I understand it costed money to make but is that worth having an extremely unhappy customer? I don’t think so.

As far as camera stores go, this is a great place to come and get information from the experts on hardware and gear. They have a large range of supplies and equipment for most applications that you could want. Alongside the camera equipment they have a big selection of "after photography" tools and items as well such as frames, mattes, physical printing of photos and decorative accompanying materials. The staff is usually pretty nice and friendly and will take the time to answer any of the questions that you could have. They do sometimes try to push the up-sale on more expensive gear and equipment than what you really need, but as salesman I kind of don't fault them for that. If you say no then they don't really try to push it anymore. It's more of a suggestion for something better but it can come off as "You need this because it costs more." Their camera selection is really good and they have just about anything you could want from any brand in any model save for the super super professional items that they wont have on display, but they can easily order for you. They have a great selection of quality tripods at any budget range as well as lens filters for many many shooting scenarios. My only true complaint that isn't horrible to deal with, id their prices. Obviously having access to online stores gives us a much cheaper alternative in a lot of things, but for being a local shop and having a storefront, I don't fault them terribly bad for charging a bit more than we can get them for. When I want to look around at a few things and need something now this is my go to store. I don't mind paying a bit extra for the storefront where I can browse and compare and then walk out with what I want. They also have photography services available if you need a passport photo or some other studio services. They can either do it themselves or put you in touch with a reputable provider for your photography. So, if you need photography gear or services, this really is the best place to go. Their photos are great quality in print, far superior to Walgreens, Walmart, etc. And you have the guarantee of getting what you want if its not correct.

I'm a pro photographer from England and wanted the D850 with MB18. English prices were absolutely ridiculous. As I was coming over to the States in april I decided to try and pre order what I wanted from the big 2 in NY but they could not guarantee if they would have what I wanted in time. I got in touch with Mike's as staying with friends in Loveland to start the trip off with. Explained the situation situation and with $100 deposit everything I needed was ordered. It turned up well before I was due to arrive but the shop was happy for me to pay when I collected the kit. Brilliant shop when I got there with a huge array of equipment. Also being a framer it was good to speak to the framing department up stairs. One minor gripe, when discussing kit with the staff and using a wide range of lenses up to 600mm lens as well as being a Nikon Professional service user, a younger member of the team tried to tell me to use non Nikon lenses. Not really the thing to do No hesitation of using Mike's again

Having grown up in Boulder, I've used Mike's Camera on countless occasions throughout my life, but the last was a true testament to their reliability and dedication to excellent service. I now live in Italy, and was desperate to print photos of my wedding for family and friends back home before Christmas. The digital printing team was exceptionally helpful via email, going above and beyond to ensure that the result was exactly what I had in mind! Skype calls, real-time emails, and efficiency (thanks to the fabulous Leah!) laid all of my worries to rest. The end-result was perfect - beyond what I had imagined! Aside from being productive and proactive, you can rely on Mike's for having a sense of taste and style. A hats off to this Boulder institution for instilling this kind of over-the-top dedication in their employees, and - as a "local" living afar - I couldn't be more happy with their services! Wow! What a store. You got to see this place. The only store that is even comparable to this place is Glazer's in Seattle, WA. Their staff is really knowledgeable and friendly. Although when I went in they had sent off all their used glass to a trade show in Southern Colorado, which I felt sore about. Why have a permanent store if you are not going to give your patrons priority? Also for the size of the store and the amount of professional grade gear they carry, I couldn't believe they didn't carry ND filters greater than 6 stops. They have an onsite photo development lab which is awesome to watch from the show room and upstairs they have a repair/maintenance desk where you can ask repair questions.

Went to Mike’s camera for a specific dimension for a foreign country visa after confirming (a) on their pricing pamphlet online and (b) over the phone that they could customize international visa photo dimensions. (1) printed off the standard US passport photo dimension (2) didn’t tell me to me that they could not do the dimension I asked for, and letting me believe that I have the right sized photo (3) after I left and discover the dimension is wrong, and confronted them, argued that’s the dimension they found on the embassy website (I checked all 3 embassies in the US and none indicated 2 by 2). (4) complained the dimension I asked for is “weird” and had no intention to own any responsibility. HUGE disappointment.

Disappointing. Mike's claims they repair lenses in house. Yet, after taking my Panasonic and Olympus lenses for two weeks they tell me they are not authorized to work on these lenses and they must be sent directly to the manufacturer. Yet, they are happy to take your money for a service charge to tell you this information after the fact. They will also take $400 to simply ship your lens back to the manufacturer - an amout ,they said, that will likely increase once the people who actually repair the lens actually see it. Mike's "repair" shop is essentially an expensive UPS shipping store. If they know they cannot repair these lenses, they should disclose this fully to their customers upfront before money and equipment is collected for services they know they cannot perform. My other lens simply needed cleaning, which again, they claim needs to be performed by Olympus. Total waste of time unless you are simply looking for an expensive middle man between you and the actual repair facility.

Updating my previous review as I received some great follow up service at this store. I went back to the store and discussed my experience with Curtis, the Store Manager. He asked a lot of questions and I got the impression that he really wanted to understand what went wrong so they could make improvements. I came away feeling that this business genuinely cared about the experience I had. They also offered to give me a refund and said, if I wanted to, they would re-do the photo's. To be fair I've had exceptional service from Mike's Camera in the past so my expectation level was set pretty high. In the end I think my experience on this occasion was an outlier and that I just happened to hit them at an off-moment. I will definitely continue to shop here based on earlier experiences and their great follow up service this time. Here's my previous review - Terrible experience getting a passport photo. The supplied the wrong size files for despite me giving them the specs I needed. I rang and asked for them to resend at the correct size. They never turned up. I went back to the store and asked for them on disc. Got home - still the wrong size! Rang again and asked them to resend. Well they did but it was the wrong photo!

Sometimes very slow to process pictures. I dropped an image off on Monday and it was not ready until the following Saturday. The image wasn't anything complicated - a 16 x 20 - so I was surprised it took so long. Both the store and the staff are wonderful, but it is not somewhere where I would get prints processed if timing is an issue.

I actually came in with someone else who upgraded their camera gear, and I wound up upgrading as well. I have been a Canon shooter for many years, and weighed upgrading to the EOS R, but after listening to the different pros and cons, Bill had me convinced that upgrading to an A7 iii was the right choice. Since I still have a handful of Canon glass, he recommended the Sigma MC11 adapter which has worked flawlessly so far, and was a lot more affordable than the Metabones adapter that I was thinking of purchasing.

I've been getting both black & white and colored film developed here for almost a year now and have been very happy with the service. I usually get them to upload my scans onto a USB, and there have been a couple of times where they forgot to import a roll. Although inconvenient, I was able to go back and get what was missing imported quickly and with no problem. They are a bit pricey as well, but I'm willing to pay it for GREAT customer service and quality photos. Additionally, Mac is the sweetest, and it's always a treat when he helps me out! I have never seen someone love their job so much, and I really appreciate his friendly face.

After the recent theft of all of my camera gear I've purchased most of my replacement gear at Mike's. I've had a mixed experience in terms of quality of the help I've received; some good help, some not so good help. But the quality of the help I received there a few days ago was a new low. There are a few services I find superior in person - brick and mortar versus online - and my creative printing projects are one of them. Printing photos for framed gifts at Mike's is much higher quality than what I get online and the help you get in the store to edit your photos is fantastic. I have made magnets to celebrate people and they spent an hour with me today designing a custom canvas picture that we all plan to sign. The Sales Clerks were very knowledgeable also the store offers classes and telephone support on your camera useage. The first class is free it is scheduled and the person who sold you the camera works with you one on one. There are other group classes on more advanced techniques.

Overall, I had a better than average experience at Mike's Camera in Boulder. The store had friendly representives who were helpful and it was quick and painless to retrieve my lens rental for my Sony A6300. I absolutely loved the Zeiss 55mm f1.8 lens. My only deduction is due to the fact that I called in on Friday morning to reserve the lens for Sunday and did not receive a call back until Sunday morning (right after they opened). At this point, I was already driving to Boulder to hopefully retrieve the lens. I'd probably called 4-5 times to the lens rental department Friday night and Saturday and went to voicemail each time. I just wish communication could have been better, especially so I can verify if I can or can not get the lens I need for my shoots.
