REVIEWS OF Indiana University Health Center IN Indiana

Steve Hussung

My experience here has been excellent. Very quick to get me in to see doctors or counselors, and it's really nice that they have an on-site pharmacy and lab. I've interacted with several different parts of the center, and my experience was good all around. It is possible they get hordes of students wanting excuses to get out of class, and they might be grumpy if they think you're wasting their time.

Julia Hanania

The staff is extremely rude. I was also told they accepted my insurance, so when I saw the charge on my bursar I came back and the lady told me they actually do not accept my insurance. I had to pay for my own visit which is ridiculous.

Brittani Snell

They diagnosed me with a viral cold when i actually have pneumonia. I have had it for 3+ weeks before i went to my family doctor and was correctly diagnosed.

Kelly Gomez

The IUHC is truly the hidden gem of Indiana University. Throughout my collegiate career, they have continually surprised me with how many services they offer. When I was a junior, I broke my foot and could count on the HC for quick and easy x-ray visits. As a sophomore, the HC was able to conduct blood tests and nose swabs when I had the flu. As a senior, I have appreciated having so may reliable medical resources so close to me for the past 4 years. Thank you to the IUHC staff for being so friendly and welcoming and understanding how to help students!

Stefan Boyadjiev

They give Ibuprofen for pretty much everything, from fractured bones to pneumonia.

Tianyu Chen

Dangerous. I have been misdiagnosed 2 times within a month and the medical condition, which was later identified by a professional dermatologist as eczema, got significantly worse after the subsequent incorrect treatment of scabies and fungous. The standard of this medical center is very questionable. The healthcare system of a university should contribute to the health and well-being of its students. There is definitely a long way to go in this regard.

Anna Loosemore

If you can afford to go anywhere else, do it. The receptionists are rude, the nurse practitioners and doctors misdiagnosed me several times, and they don't really care about giving you the best care. They don't really give advice beyond "whatever you think is best" and they don't care about helping, educating, or protecting you. They just want you in and out as quickly as possible. Their information seems either outdated or just plain wrong. Don't go here for anything other than CAPS or anything more complex than the common cold. It's frankly dangerous.

One star.

Everything went perfectly. All people I encountered we're nice and polite. The doc was professional and educational. I guess people usually don't post review unless they are super mad, but the IU health center is really better than its average review looks like.

Seth Bumbalough

Maturnity ward is excellent. Emergency room in general is not very responsive: average wait time(s) so far are 3+ hours any time a family member or I have gone in.

Bobbi Lewis

The cashiers suck, they are rude and if they don’t know how to help you when you call they WILL hang up on you. Do better IU

Shanna Stowe

Who is the nurse tweeting that all sons of white women are rapists, terrorists, etc?? She is a danger to society and needs mental help!

Noelle Snider

Once I switched to using the IU Health Center for my perscriptions it made life so much easier. I can schedule my appointments to get refills easily and in a timely manner. I also decided to go to the nutrtionist once just to learn more and it was a great experience! Definitely recommend to check out their services.

Derek DiMatteo

Gets me taken care of conveniently and inexpensively.

Although I’ve been seeing doctors at the Health Center for a while and never had issues, I mainly am reviewing to commend the Pharmacy at the HC. I have never had such amazing service at a Pharmacy and I’m not looking forward to graduating and having to go back to CVS. The staff always have my prescriptions ready in minutes, they are always friendly and helpful, and do their best to make sure I get a good price with my bad insurance. Online refilling is so easy and convenient. CVS has nothing on the HC pharmacy except longer hours, but it’s absolutely worth it. I am fairly selective with my doctors at the HC so that’s probably why I’ve had great experiences. I love Dr. Rupp and Dr. Florini, as well as many of the Nurse Practicioners.

I called in to make an appointment, sick as a dog, barely able to speak, and the woman on the phone treated me like I was ruining her day, a burden on her, her family, and her ancestors. I tried being polite, but at one point I just hung up. The Health Center is a scam. Go anywhere else. Any number of alleys on Kirkwood would offer you better service.

In my history at IU health center, no matter what sickness you have they will sell you mucinex. It's almost like they are sponsored by mucinex. I went in with a double eat infection, strep throat and a stomach virus and they gave me mucinex. I would highly recommend going to the urgent health care clinic on 3rd if you are really sick.

Danny Grossberg

Never ever go here if sick or hurt in any way. No one seems to know what is going on, mis-diagnoses every day, the waiting time is terrible, overall just a terrible terrible place to get treated by medical "professionals"

Kim Riyu

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I went to a walk in, and got rejected because "I wasn't dying at this moment". If I was dying at this moment, I'd be dead because it's 20 freaking minute to the health center BY CAR. Obviously I couldn't make appointment because I was feeling intense pain that I didn't expect to have. Can't believe these people completed GED, Let alone college.

Me: I'd like a general health check-up appointment, am a grad student. Them: ok are you calling anything about any particular trouble? Me: no, just a check-up Them: ok. What sort of particular problem are you coming in for? Me: I'd just like to get a check-up? Them: ok. Can I ask what's bringing you to us? Me: general health check up Them: Ohhhhh you wanted a general health and wellness check up? You should have just said so. Them: if you came in next Thursday at X:XX would that be ok? I assume you can't. Me: no that's fine Them: but it's an hour and a half no matter what, which is a long time. You sure? Me: ... I swear I am talking to people from a different star system. smh

Issam Albdairat

I went before my appointment for 20 minute and I waited another extra 30 minutes. In general they are working in not professional way. I will not waste my time again by going there.

Ruoxun Chen

Had an appointment and arrived 20min ealiere to check in and get ready. However, I waited like 45min and end up being told that the doctor cancelled my appointment....and I had to reschedule again.....

So many problems, don't know where to start. They push medications without discussing past history, make poor decisions when care is needed beyond what they can do, and are not very helpful.

Doesn't accept medicaid...

As a student at IU I had to use the health center multiple times, and each time it felt like a chore. Once I was actually seen by a nurse practitioner or doctor it usually went pretty well, but the whole process around that is frustrating. They are critically understaffed and you'll be lucky to get an appointment within 2 weeks during flu season, so your best bet is to do a walk-in instead. They are nearly unreachable over the phone, and I've spent 30+ minutes on hold more than I can count for things as simple as getting a prescription refill. The administrative staff hasn't been rude to me, per say, but they definitely seem indifferent. The doctors and nurses seem to be trying their best, at least. Perhaps the most difficult thing to manage are their hours. The health center's hours are very limited and have actually been reduced from previous years. They are no longer open on the weekends when they used to be open on Saturday, and I believe they also used to be open until 6 PM. Now they are only open until 4:30 PM, and are closed between 11:30 and 1, although the latter might just be a summer thing. Needless to say, those hours are ridiculous! Students can reliably have classes every weekday up to 6 PM and might not have an hour or two to wander over to the health center, and since attendance is so heavily monitored these days, it makes it nearly impossible to visit for non-immediate conditions. The same goes if you are at work. Your best bet is to go in as early as possible. Most of these issues are not the result of the staff, but of the university. It is clear that the clinic is incredibly underfunded, and it's just another sign that IU really does not care about its students.

Some nurse lack empathy and are extremely uncaring. Also had me call in for results on a day they weren't even open.

Worst Health Center there is. Very uncaring people. Very unreachable health center. Will not talk to you unless you’re pretty much already dead. Hard to get ahold of. As a student at IU I’ve never felt like they are helpful or care about anything and they are supposedly “available” 24/7.

Brandi Emerick

My experience has nearly always been excellent. I'd definitely give 5 stars if Chris Johnson didn't work there. Dr. Rupp, Bruce Garber, Cathy Garber, and Mary Lou Nierzwicki were all great. Staff are helpful, efficient, and friendly. If you avoid Chris Johnson in the Women's Clinic, you will likely have a good experience at the health center. The lab work is usually quick and mostly painless, and folks filling prescriptions are fast, helpful, and friendly. Chris Johnson was extremely dismissive, and told me there was nothing wrong with me, and the pain I was in was normal. I found out later I had large ovarian cysts and advanced endometriosis (stage 4). Due to her dismissive attitude, I first spent another year with no diagnosis, in pain, and feeling hopeless. I did not consult with another doctor because I let her convince me the pain and illness was in my head. My illness was severe enough that I've had 5 surgeries to treat it, which involved freeing organs stuck to me with adhesions, a hysterectomy, and a bowel resection. The very least Chris could've done was mention the possibility of endometriosis and refer me and/or order an ultrasound. If I had treated the disease sooner, I likely would've had a better surgical outcome (possibly keeping a left ovary so damaged that it needed to be removed), fewer adhesions (from treating the disease before it became so advanced). Not to mention years of lost productivity and damaged social relations from living in pain. Chris Johnson also told me that if you are in a car going over train tracks and that doesn't cause severe pain, you don't have an ovarian cyst large enough to worry about. It sounded strange to me at the time, and now that I've had multiple large cysts (verified by ultrasounds and surgery), I know what she said is nonsense. Chris Johnson should not be allowed to practice medicine.

Doctors and nurses are always helpful. I love that I can call ahead to the pharmacy and have my prescription ready for me after class!

They misdiagnose me every time and they treat me like I’m wasting their time. The gynecologist I saw didn’t believe my symptoms and also had horrible bedside manners. She didn’t even tell me when she was going to use a speculum. There was no warning, she just used it. She said I had nothing wrong with me and I had to go a month with an infection until I could get to my hometown gynecologist who actually cares about me. I also have debilitating fatigue and I went in to ask about it and they said they’d call my primary care doctor and get back to me in a month with tests they want to run. They got back to me 2 and a half months later, after I was able to go home and have the tests run by someone competent. So I basically paid $20 for nothing. I asked if maybe I had PCOS and their answer was basically “maybe” with little elaboration besides telling me to see a dietitian. The only reason I keep going here is because my insurance isn’t accepted anywhere in Bloomington so I might as well go to the closest place, even if it’s terrible.

Alyssa Rutsey

I've been misdiagnosed as well as them missing diagnoses for me and my roommate. Probably the worst health place to go to. Do not go here whatever you do. You'll just end up more sick and be taking medication for something you don't even have. ANY other health center or hospital would be better. I've had two doctors that were very nice, one not so much. Most of the receptionists and nurses are rude and uncaring.

You CANNOT BEAT the purple parking lot. Flat, good asphalt, exquisitely painted lines, this is a monument to good paving craftsmanship. Looking for a place to park your car? Any lot will do. Looking for a place to pamper it? You gotta go Purple. And that's the straight dope.

Joshua Knowles

Told me to come in because I was exposed to mumps on campus tested me for the flu then told me I had to pay for the flu test and then charged another $45 for the visit

Nicole Blair

They did not get all my vitals. And they got my bp because I requested it. Having a high blood pressure or high heart rate is not important and has nothing to do with anything when it should be. I would tell them that my bp was high but they refused and told me that I was wrong. I would know more than anyone what is abnormal with me. I would tell them what was wrong and they just gave me medication for each individual problem rather than knowing what the whole problem is. Both times I went they didn’t think twice about my blood pressure. I definiently felt rushed the lady said I was only signed up for a 15 mins appointment when I was wasn’t even asked how long I’d want an appointment for. They treat u like ur stupid when I’ve worked as an emt I would get fired for some of the things they did. The doctor was nice but I felt rushed and not cared for. Almost treated like I was making everything up. Never going here again.

May Henderson

I would give zero stars if I could. This is the worst medical center I've ever been cursed to encounter. First, the receptionists are rude. While I was waiting for my appointment I heard the receptionists making fun of someone who called. The nurses are equally as rude and very hateful. As for the doctors, you might as well try essential oils as they're just as unhelpful. I went in for (what was later diagnosed at another dr office as) a kidney infection. They performed a strip test that's accurate ~30% of the time and of course it came back negative. They told me I was dehydrated, charged me, and told me to come back if the pain is worse in 48 hours. Mind you, if not treated kidney infections can quickly cause sepsis and permanent damage. I called them later that day to tell them I was experiencing new, very troublesome symptoms and asked if they could call in an antibiotic. They said they'd test again in 2 days and call me. They never did. Good thing I went to a different medical office to get the help I needed.

Horrible hours and incompetent staff.

Danicka Refugio

do not go here unless you have an illness (like an STD) that can be identified easily and has an obvious treatment. I swear they were just typing my symptoms up on webMD

Jay Eggeman

Got misdiagnosed 3 times. Don’t go here unless you want a prescription for mucinex. Waste of money.

Jodi Pickle

Pros: if you need to get an IUD go here cause it was flawless and over in seconds. They tell you what’s up and calm you down Cons: I got misdiagnosed for mumps by a nurse practitioner and missed school. If it was high school it would be fine but I’m paying for this education and I can’t miss it :/

Peggy Houng

I went in 2 hours earlier than my appointment time figuring I might get a walk-in appointment and be done earlier, but I was so wrong. I ended up not seeing a doctor until 20 minutes after my appointment time. Waiting there with a really sore throat and a fever is no fun, and the receptionists are intimidating and not the friendliest people.

Diana Feraco

1 star more than they deserve. Sent my son home. Claimed they didn't know what was wrong, just fine take advil. He called and I drove at midnight to IN 6 hr in storm to find him 10lbs lighter, sick, coughing up blood. Not bits or specks but blood... like a cut. I go to hospital and they logged 6 days ago he tested pos for mumps. Now they are testing him for pneumonia because it went so long.

Joy Burton

I went here 4 times when I was a student. I found everything from making an appointment to navigating the inside of the building frustrating to the point of being kafkaesque. After my first time making an appointment via phone, I was extremely anxious to make another later on because the receptionist was so rude and dismissive. Think about that: this woman was so unpleasant that it actually impeded my drive to seek medical help. And when I did eventually call back the subsequent three times the people I spoke to on the phone were just as unnecessarily impatient and unkind as the first, if not more! I mean these people are so starved of social skills that they actually have employees responding to complaints on here--in an at times condescending and rude way, I might add. All I can say to that is yikes. Regarding my actual appointments, I have little complaints. I wasn't misdiagnosed or anything. But be warned: They don't accept medicaid or IU Health Insurance. Yep, that's right! The Indiana University Health Center does not accept Indiana University Health Insurance. Makes sense. TL;DR: The people here are exceptionally rude. Don't accept Medicaid/or IU Health Insurance. Take your problems and business elsewhere.

Peyton LaVielle

I have never been treated so poorly by a medical staff. The receptionists and nurses are rude, condescending, and clearly hate their jobs. It's amazing these people choose to work with young adults, this is supposed to be a safe space where a frustrated, ill student can find help. Even the receptionists on the counseling floor are horrible. IU can and should do better.
