Red Apple has changed a lot. It used to be the "store in the neighborhood." Now EVERYBODY goes there. Great selection of Asian products everywhere. I was shocked to see black rice (purple like) and duck eggs.

It was quite interesting seeing cans of corned beef and Spam locked behind a glass case with a sign saying that if you want any of the items to get an employee. Aside from that oddity, being in one of the worst parts of town and significantly overpriced in just about everything is good enough of a deterrent to not really care to go back there again. The only thing going for it is the unusual food items, particularly for people from Asian countries. Also, no public restroom, in case that matters.

Red Apple is a very small grocery store that sells allot of Asian and east Asian goods. From halal meats to rice candies form china, rice steamers and Indian spices. The neighborhood is a little rough so I would night advise going late at night. They are reasonably priced and also have a good produce section.

I just watched a manager tell a young woman she couldn't pay for her lotion with a Walmart gift card. What should have been an awkward possibly humorous error ended with me calling 911 on that woman's behalf. The normal security guard who is Awsome, by the way, was NOT there. The manager, a grey haired white man in his 60's with a mustache grabbed her by the arm and was wrenching her arm while three more Male employee's grabbed her other arms. So there were two grown, huge men on each of her arms dragging her out of line INTO THE STORE. The argument had gotten loud but this is where the Red Apple Manager BROKE THE LAW. I stepped in front of them and asked if he was an officer and if she was under arrest. He looked me dead in my face and said "This is none of your business, walk away." I told him she hadn't broken any laws but them grabbing her was assault. THAT'S WHEN I NOTICED ONE OF THE EMPLOYEES WAS TRYING TO HAND CUFF HER! I pulled out my phone and said I was calling the police. She was begging me for help, my two girls got to watch as that women was dragged into the back of the store. My 911 call was less than professional, but the dispatcher explained to me that she was probably getting arrested for shoplifting!!??? The officers that showed up said the same thing. I told them I was glad they were here now & what I saw while they walked up to the store. They weren't phased, and repeated that the woman was most likely stealing as they went in. We kept walking away and I told them that she got dragged to the back of the store by four men so she was still in there. This was near noon on Friday, June 14th. I don't know that woman, she looked like 20s or maybe early 30s, but it's hard to tell when she she's red faced with terror, crying and screaming, "Wait, I have money, you can't do this. I didn't break the law. Somebody help me." At the Red Apple Grocery, in Mountain View.

Everything is almost always expired and customer service it terrible. Went in with coupon for a couple things and the woman told me I couldn't use the coupon on a certain item because it had a different picture then on the coupon even though it was the same damn thing name and all. Just a different character on it.

One of the few places my wife and I can find the ingredients to make delicious Filipino food. The prices are pretty good and there is always an abundance of products available. It would be five stars, but the location and activity of people outside the store make it exhausting to go there. Every time we are there, there is either a Community Patrol van or police car there to pick up a very well-behaved citizen.

Prices are pretty high here. Most of there products are for the Asian and Samoan communities. The products that are for everyone else are way to highly priced. Example: there Coffeemate creamers are at least $2 higher than regular stores. Way to highly priced.

Its a expensive cheap store. The staff are friendly but the other customers were questionable. If your riding a bike make sure you have a bike lock for outside because they will not let you bring your bike inside while shopping. Western union line was really long and took a long time because there's only one person in customer service and one computer. I recommend going some where else for sending or receiving money.

I have been shopping at the Red Apple for over 30 years. I was surprised to read some of these reviews. They have always been polite and I had no problems writing personal check for my purchases. Of course it is a local bank account and that makes a difference in this day and age of people ripping off checks. I don't know of very many places that will take an out of state check. You can save a ton of money especially if you get their coupon book. If I am not sure of the brand, I buy one and try it before I buy a lot of it. I think most of us do that. They carry hamburger that is $2.99 a pound which is a buck cheaper that anywhere else in town. It is 15% fat where most of what is $3.99 at other stores is 20% fat. The Western Family products that they sell is on par with more expensive brands. They have items that you can't find in most other stores. They have dehydrated hash browns, gallon size milk carton look that are $8.99 and I think it equals 10# of potatoes. Hot water and in the micro for 3-4 minutes and you can fry them up for breakfast. There are many items such as this. The first time you go, give your self a lot of time to look it over. It isn't a fancy store but it is clean and you can save a lot.

This store has a huge selection of asian foods and ingredients so far since they recently did an expansion. The prices for their meats are good and produce is reasonably priced too. The area is still a little shady but the on site security try to keep things smooth. I really wish the parking lot lighting would be LED so you can see better in the dark but all in all it's a great place to get your Asian foods or ingredients.

After I say this I probably will not find my favorite foods. The carry pigs feet, tripe and pasteles. When I go to the store I get all the pasteles they have. These pasteles are sold frozen and they are pretty tasty. I made a mistake of offering them to my family and now, I have to go early or I won’t find any. Also if you go between 1st of the month and the 5th you won’t find any either. They also carry viandas like yuca, great squash year around and bacalao, the real bacalao and the other stuff that looks like the real stuff but much cheaper. I like the real cod with plantains, green bananas, yuka and squash basted in olive oil. Yum! I am out so I better go to the store before any of you go and empty the store.

I would honestly give the store a 4 star rating for all of the hard to find items they sell but the issues surrounding the store brought it to a 3. It's not they're fault but the drunk hobos hang all around this building hard because it sits in the middle of 2 brown jugs a block apart. So there are always super intoxicated homeless people standing around the entrance and all up the alley along the side of store. Getting propositioned by drunken women is pretty common, they offer to my husband with me sitting right there in the passenger seat haha. And there are frequently arguments and alterations on the alley. To their credit, Red Apple has recently brought in more security which has helped some to keep them away from the store entrance and front. The store itself is full of great foreign food items and you can find awesome deals on everyday stuff there too if you watch prices. We like it enough that we still shop there for things despite the issues outside so I suppose that says something.

My daughter and I love red Apple! They have absolutely everything in there! They have prell, they have finesse shampoo! I haven't been able to find finesse shampoo since I was in high school in 1993. They have everything everybody super night I super love it when they have coupons!

Basically a smaller, local supermarket, compared to big dogs like Fred Meyer or Walmart. They still have pretty much what you need such as seafood, frozen food, alcoholic beverages, fruits, dry goods, etc, just like other supermarkets. What sets them apart is that they have a lot of Asian and other products that can only be found in the lower 48. There are plenty of parking spaces but I wouldn't stand around and hang out, due to the area this place is in. Watch for solicitors when you exit or enter your vehicle.

My most recent visit was not as friendly as expected. The security guard me to put my backpack down or go put it in the office. My small backpack which is used for a hangbag or purse so as I was trying to explain this to him he would not have it. Also the cashier was very rude as if she was not happy with her job.
