REVIEWS OF St. Vincent's Birmingham IN Alabama

This is a wonderful hospital! What I thought was a charley horse, turned out to be a bucket handle tear of the meniscus. Thank God for Dr. McGough for quickly repairing my meniscus! Surgery was a breeze and Dr. McGough and nurses made sure my mind was at ease at all times. However, prior to my surgery, an MRI was ordered. I went to the imaging center at the hospital. While the receptionist, Marie, was super sweet and accommodating, one of the radiology technicians, Rita, was extremely rude. Her attitude was very nasty and she obviously lacked people skills. This is certainly not the profession for her and I feel sorry for anyone who has to deal with her. Perhaps she can acquire more personality before coming in contact with other patients. Other than that, St. Vincent's is a great place!

Awful, i would never recommend this terrible place to anyone, had major surgery, i was neglected and uncared for. Pitiful excuses for nurses. Scary actually. My dr was just about as bad. Im sorry they are getting paid so well for my surgery and time there. They really let me suffer besides being nasty. The person i had with me did everything for me, even changed my sheets after 2 days of laying in bodily fluids. I thought i was in hell. So sad, I cried for a week about this.

I have mixed feelings about this: On one hand, these people saved my life. On the other hand, i was told they would handle the financial end if i filled out some paperwork. I had some difficulty getting some elements and, when i turned them in, i was told "You're too late" and all the bills fell on me. The thing is, i told them (when i came in the building) that i didn't have insurance then, i made just enough money to survive and probably couldn't pay the bills. If they had told me about a "time window", it was when i was in the hospital and pretty much drugged so...my credit is screwed because of them. At this point, "if" i had the money, i don't think i would pay on general principal alone. It isn't right to offer someone an option and not tell them there's hidden restrictions. Most of the doctors were good, there was so "Darth Vader" acting female doctor who walked in and argued everything a specialist had just told me about my diabetes, specialist said "good", female doctor said "bad". I will let you in on something a male nurse told me about. Back when i was there, they were talking about down-sizing the nursing staff to a minimal and i don't think that's a good thing. Sometimes, they took a while to get to me and that was cool but knowing they were going to down-size, more, and cause what might be a risk because of lack of staff. ....that bothers me.

Excellent medical care. Poor record keeping. We got 3 different discharge packets with conflicting information. We also received progress notes for a child unrelated to us. HIPAA violation??

I came here at 8:30 on a Tuesday evening. The doctor(s) both spoke to me about what the plan was going to be at around_11 PM. I was very sick and was throwing up several times..however, it took 4 or 5 before I got a Zofran injection. My husband was assured that I would be admitted and monitored-so he left so he could get a good night's sleep. I was in the ER room for 4 hours..no O2 sat and no air coming out of the cannula. So I punched the nurses button 6 times..I was answered once, but my nurse stuck his head in my room and said what do you need I have another's person meds right now. I wasn't even aware that he had been notified I pushed the button, I THOUGHT IT WAS BROKEN BECAUSE NOONE RESPONDED!! Then the really bad news..I'm not really going to be admitted. I'm placed in a room really close to the ER room I had been in since 8:30!! The bed is possibly the most uncomfortable beds I've ever been in (the kind that thinks it knows where you want the air so it fills in holes and makes new ones about every 10 seconds) I really hope someone that looks into this is someone that takes it seriously. I am not an unreasonable person, yet here I lay 6 hours later in a terrible position and no advocate. My name is Louise Holt and I really pray that the people who took "care of me tonight" never have to endure this.

Here now in the emergency room and people here are just plain rude! Need new employees! Honestly shouldve just waited the wait at UAB.

Alysha Kokales

They're mean, unprofessional. And need to go back to school.

Eric Sheffer

Very caring staff!

Michelle Tomlin

Was admitted with stomach pain & possible blockage found by my GP. Kept me four days just to run up my insurance bill as they did NO TESTING to see what was causing the issue. Thanks, Healthcare Reform. NOT the charitable hospital it is made out to be. I was stuck with a huge bill (and I WORKED THERE & HAD THEIR INSURANCE) for nothing. St. Vincent's is now my LAST choice in Birmingham hospitals. Go to UAB, or anywhere else.

Tammi McClain

I have been sitting here an hour or more people walking getting seen before me I'm highly pissed off

Ric Johnson

The hospital and there staff are great, but the services suck no wheelchair escorts for the professional building, valets are kinda rude and unassisting!!

CommitToTheBit

Really good hospital!!!!!

Kitt Owl

The most hateful, condescending ER staff in Birmingham. They are a nightmare to have to deal with.

Andrew

You should expect them to charge you any chance they get. I paid for tests done just so that I could pay again to go there and only pick up my results. They made me pay twice to take one blood test. I tried explaining but since I had to make eye contact with the doctor to say, "Can I have my results back, please?", It counts as a visit. St. Vincent's is a money grabbing hospital that tries to take as much as they can from you.

Michael Richards

The worst hospital I ever been too if I could had given them a negative number I would have !!!!!!!!!? The hospital and doctors are such a joke I came in because I have diabetes and multiple scalrosis and was having some problems with both and when I told the Dr the symptoms I was having with my heart rate n dizzness and feeling like I was going to pass out they didn't do no test take no blood or try and find out what was going on with me!!!!!!! Told me well idk what o do for you maybe you should just see your primary doctor and released me like are you serious and didn't want to answer none of my questions or concerns plzzzz avoid and stay away from this hospital at all costs

LaTonya Davidson

I used to love this hospital however things have drastically changed. The last emergency room visit I was very ill, I have asthmatic bronchitis and was very sick with these complications along with a sinus infection. I sat in the emergency room for about 7 hours only to be spoken to very in a very disrespectful manner by the triage nurse, she even shouted at me to the point where everyone looked. I'm standing there with chest pains and poor breathing, and I only came to the desk to ask about my turn to be seen. She mentioned that she had already called me. I was going in and outside because this particular day they had a problem with their heating and air conditioning unit and was trying to get it repaired, and in the interim the patients were suffering from it. It was freezing and anyone that has asthma will attest that to be freezing cold and to breathe in cold air is not fun. I reported to the head nurse which stated that she had other complaints about this nurse however she was allowed to stay there on her post. My punishment was that I was the last patient to be seen that day in the emergency room. With that being said St. Vincent's need to remove every cross they have in there if they are going to allow their nurses to treat patients this way, because they are sending the wrong message and it definitely has nothing to do with caring.

Lisa Elliott

Wonderful and caring staff. Very helpful. They go the extra mile for their patients and whatever services they need. Beautiful and clean. I would never choose any hospital but St. Vincent's Birmingham!

Cailey Simmons

Okay, so I went in lastnight for what I thought was a spider bite on my buttocks(which happened to be a boil), I was super nervous because of the pain this was causing. Some background of myself: I have very high anxiety and bipolar. Therefore since I was so nervous coming in I was very talkative and I couldn't catch my breathe, some would say I was acting very irrational. In my opinion I was just being really awkward. Everything was fine until I was sitting in the room, waiting and heard at least three nurses laughing at me in the hallway because of how I was acting. I'm not gonna lie I was very hurt by this. These women and men are 30-40 years old and they're laughing because my anxietys getting the best of me. No one tried to make me feel better about why I was there. And quite frankly they didn't care that my feelings were hurt at all. How can you work at a hospital, and be sympathetic for those who are physically hurt when you arent even a bit sympathetic for a 19 year old female patient having a anxiety attack over a painful boil. Laughing the hallway making jokes. Coming back into the room waiting for me to do something for you to laugh at and then when I'm finally calmed down not freaking out or acting out you walk out of my room and say it loud and clearly yeah she heard us!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Is there not some kind of rule about nurses or doctors making patients feel like crap. The third and forth time these women walked into my room they started kissing my butt and kept pointing out that it didn't take me long and how well I was taken care of. All because I said it very loudly in my room on the phone with my mother that I was going to write a review. They were more worried about the fact that I was going to write a review and make them look bad rather than that they crushed my spirit. I will never refer anyone to this hospital nor be making a trip back. Princeton was much better than this. Maybe if I would have received an apology I wouldn't have written this review. But I seriously felt like no one cared about how they made me feel. Very selfish.

Had my first little angel here and the nurse staff was so sweet! Even let me stay a day later just to stay close to baby girl! The room was beautiful and cozy and I quite enjoyed the food too! Definitely want to have future babies here too!

We were robbed of over $2,000 by this hospital. Paid for a surgery and after paying they said that the deductible was resetting and that we had to start over paying for the surgery that they still haven't performed. Whoever is running is place should be put in n prison. Don't ever go here unless you have a lawyer with you!!!!!!!!

Susan Jackson

Went to ER for dehydration. Wait time was ok. Nurse came in and drew blood and put in IV with no bag. Dr came in and because I said I smoked and was slightly wheezing, he brought up possibly having COPD. I was there the week before and had a perfect chest x-ray because I was again dehydrated. Never saw Dr again but many tests where preformed. When I asked WHY the Dr was ordering the test I was basically ignored. After waiting 5 hours for the Dr to return and tell me ANYTHING, we left. I was contacted by phone 15 minutes later and told to return so they could take out the IV needle. I said I had already done it and they hung up on me. Don't go to this ER. They put fear into you and then leave you scared and afraid and treat you like you are an idiot when you ask WHY a test is being done.

Angelina Rainwater Cherry-Dill

I had an abscess under my arm. They lanced it and drained it. The Dr roughly jabbed a scissor type tool into my arm pit. He packed it and sent me home with antibiotic and ibuprofen. I am in serious pain and I believe itnis inhumane to treat a patient, send them home with an open wound with no pain medication. I am sorely disappointed and probably won't return that WE. I am in severe pain and cannot use this arm without creating more pain. And then whem I was leaving they said God bless you. Yeah right.

Ambulance took my wife to St Vincent Emergency after she slipped on a wet floor and suffered a badly broken bone under the knee. The break was found approximately 4 days later by her Orthopedic doctor The ER doctors at St. Vincent hospital sent her home after a two hr wait, saying it was a sprained left leg. When trying to explain the pain she was in, they cut her off treating her like a drug seeker and giving her NOTHING for pain and not even providing a simple splint to support her leg and prevent flexing her leg. Until we could get an appointment with her orthopedic doctor, she was in constant pain and all that is associated with acute pain as sainted with a major broken bone. I can't express the type week my poor wife had because of two ER doctors and their obvious lack of ability.

My experience with this hospital was wonderful! I was just discharged today from having surgery. I stayed one night in the hospital. I have got to say, the nurses were absolutely amazing and friendly. They even let me rest at night instead of trying to wake me for vitals, which was very much appreciated. The surgical crew was amazing as well. They made a scary situation in to the most relaxing as possible considering the situation. I will most definitely be going back to this hospital in the future if I have to have anything else done. The best hospital I have ever been in.

Sam Wilkinsn

Probably the worst emergency room experience of my life. Went to er and they made me wait for HOURS in room. I thought they'd forgotten about me. I would have died if I hadn't screamed for help. All were condescending including a-hole doctor female nurses, pblebotomist, etc. They were all laughing when I was screaming in pain. Nurse call button was deliberately placed out of my reach. I would not go back to St Vincent's for ANYTHING. They should be investigated and shut down

Linda Lemoine

Luckily I was not the patient but my friend was. We are both R.N.s and agreed that in case of an emergency we would definitely want to be taken to St. Vince . We both have changed our minds. It all started with the e.r..then the terrible treatment she received pre and postoperative. Unfortunately my Dr. practices there. Have to investigate other options. What a dilemma!

Julie Ritchey Miles

I love it here much cleaner and nice people good food and great doctors .I have some really good doctors .They care. The chapel is my favorite place and for hospitals it's my family favorite.

Having an MRI with sedation tomorrow at St. Vincent's. NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. And yet...an incredibly nice woman called me to give me directions, tell me where to park, how to navigate the hospital admission, what to bring, what to expect. So now I'm actually (sort of) looking forward to it! Update: Had what is perhaps my greatest healthcare experience ever at St. Vincent's. Uniformly friendly and thoughtful staff made me comfortable, and did I mention I was HAVING A DREADED MRI!? Would definitely use St. Vincent's for out/in-patient services in the future.

Jennie Lane

I had an appointment and everyone was on time. Rarely do I have to wait when I have an appointment.

Lisa Thompson

Love love love this hospital! I have never had a better stay anywhere

Chy Goodwin

Very uncaring nursing staff in cvicu! They may do there job(thankfully) but they have no compassion or caring about patients family or comfort.

Ellen Ray

The hospital is fine but their billing practices are terrible. I received a statement - no billing summary in June. It took two requests to get a billing summary. The bill was paid the same month but yet their policy is to turn over the bill after 30 days to Medical Financial Solutions. So it takes 3 months to get you a bill and you have less than 30 days to pay it.

It is the best place ever there service is amazing

Tonya Warmley

My experience with St. Vincent hospital has been the worse. 2 surgery within 24 hours for a collapse lung because the ER door didn't inserted it properly. Four hour wait in the ER after the Urgent Care called them and told what was wrong with me and event sent my xrays. I left and went home they called me to come in the next morning and when I got there no one know anything took them 30 minutes to get me in the back. Now trying to get all of my medical bills paid is horrible. I have two insurance and they still keep send me bills from collection agency even put thing on my credit. Worse hospital in Birmingham

Brian Harmon

These folks saved my life. Excellent doctors and excellent nurses that were always on their game! If I had a choice, this is my hospital of choice.

Ok... I had both babies in this hospital with the most awesome experience! The E.R.? Total Different Story! My husbands took me with sever chest pain and numbness on my left side. Was in an out of consciousness and couldn't get my breath. Not bragging but we don't in any way look like druggies. Rude doesn't even begin to explain how they acted. They told my husband to wait his turn and took several others back ahead of us that were laughing and joking. Thankfully., my problem was severe chest wall muscle spasms. After 8 hours of waiting. No I.V. for 3 hrs, no heart monitors/EKG for 2 hrs. I really would have died had it been a heart attack. We were in the midst of calling an ambulance to take me to another hospital when they finally began showing a small amount of interest. It was the most Horrible experience of my life! I realize there are many people who use the ER that have no business being there but that doesn't mean we're all "bad" or "drug seekers". Never ever take your loved one here! It was a joke and you were made to feel like the crumb of the earth! That's no understatement! I'm a 36 yr old woman that never needs ER tx and believe me I'll drive 30 miles further to be seen else where. Im sure there are deaths that are happening there that shouldnt be!

My sister was admitted here after her ankle surgery. The staff was extremely helpful, very friendly, and sincerely kind. I recommend this hospital personally since I stayed with my sister throughout her stay.

David Dees

Great hospital.

Alissa Hamm

Wonderful place!

Karon Giles

I've been reading reviews and were to send feedback to about your visit. Decided to do this instead of writing about events that happened during our stay for the whole world to see. Appears the feedback email addy is just for show because no one ever contacted us and it has been five days. Feedback response is just as good as our experience with the hospital.

Melissa Tyus

The staff was very accommodating and we had no problems and had a very sweet parking attendant that went out of her way to give us all the information that we needed and showed us where to park and where to go . Sure wish I had gotten her name because she really needs to be commended on a job well done

Sherry Harris

The patient care was excellent but still cannot t get use to paying for parking..

Frankie Phillips

I had an appointment in och I have been here since 11:30 my appointment was at 11:30 I have been here 2 hours waiting 1 St they said it was due to not having my paper work from my boss is why they pushed me back 2 hours now some one else says they have too many traumas in here, but I believe I am being lied too by two different people here this is not right if we was to do that at our jobs we would get in trouble so why isn't some one watching them ??????? This is ridiculously

Katerina Stewart

Fast and professional service from all the staff.

My sister recently delivered a baby boy at St. Vincent hospital. The staff was excellent!!!! Facility is very nice.

Sunshine 35235

The staff is nice. Very helpful and caring. Housekeeping has been the most wonderful experience of our stay. A wonderful lady in which we do not know her name took the time to be with my dad one night. She was so sincere, prayed and listened in his time of need and really touched our hearts. However the parking deck is outrageous !!. Families on a budget or anyone for that matter that has loved ones in the hospital, have unexpected expenses. Such as food, lodging or gas. Not to mention the copayments. $4-$6 a DAY for parking. A week goes by, then two and that's per family member (PER CAR). There should be some type of system for immediate family members, such as some type of free or discounted parking for extended stays. Nothing is posted our information is given to the families.

Ms E

I recently had to stay overnight after surgery. All of the staff went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. From the nurses, PCAs, and dietary staff they all were attentive, courteous, and pleasant. Thanks a bunch!

mtuscaloosa .

My wife had to give birth to our son 10 weeks early due to health complications. Everyone in labor & delivery was nice, informative, and concerned about the well being of my wife and son. Where St. Vincent's really shines is their NICU unit. Both of the doctors show compassion to their patients and the families, you can see that they truly care. Everyone is outgoing and friendly and makes you feel comfortable even though you are dealing with such a stressful situation. The nurses and staff are first class people that treat you like family and take time to talk to you, either to explain about your child's care or just asking about how you are doing. All of the little things makes this group of people exceptional and we are very thankful to have been treated so well during our long stay.

Jay Simmons

My mother went there after having a heart attack and they let her leave without doing any test, except a cardiac blood test. the nurses were to busy to answer the pages and the dr’s refused to do an echocardiogram! If you want to live do not go to this ER!

A Bibb

Worst ER I've ever been to. The staff was extremely rude and was in no hurry what so ever. Definitely will not be going back to that hospital again.

Suzanne Cordell

All the staff are very courteous and helpful in any way. Enjoying here as much as can be enjoyed at a hospital. Getting my dad well, too!!!

Excellent caring nurses. Top rated surgeon William. Woodall. Neoro spine. Dr Woodall went above call of duty by helping me further. A Review for a different issue reviewed and turned out to be a God send. As well! Simply the best in every detailed care.

Great place! Had both our daughters here and could not have been happier with the care and attention they and their mother got! Parking is easy, and there are good food/snack options on the property.

Ms. Jennifer Fox is a direct representation of your facility. What she writes on social media and her link of employment makes her as such. In no way should a person employed by a facility who's mission is in direct conflict of her obvious beliefs based on her statements. Our Catholic health ministry is dedicated to spiritually centered, holistic care which sustains and improves the health of individuals and communities. We the people ask that swift action be taken against Ms. Fox as no one deserves to be faced with such uncaring hatred in the eyes of illness and casualty such as the one faced in Las Vegas nor in any situation which brings them to a facility in which they should be treated with nothing but care and respect. The worst service Ever. The PCA is extremely Rude. Juice or water was never offered after surgery. I was on a clear liquid diet. Once I requested , it took 2 hours to bring 2 small containers. The nurse manager was notified, and this resulted in absolutely nothing. I will warn ALL family and friends to stay away from this place as providing good service is no goal of the staff on 4th floor main hospital.

Olivia Farrior

It is very nice but hard to find your way out and find the right place and it asks for a lot of info.

The experience we are having is not good at all! First of all my 85 year old aunt fell and broke her hip Thursday January 5th and was taken by ambulance to St Vincent Birmingham. St Vincent East was my choice but did not have ER or hospital bed available! She had to wait from Thursday to Monday before she had surgery and didn't go to surgery until 245pm. She suffered in pain with increased swelling all this time which I feel was ridiculous! First they said they didn't have a doctor that could do the surgery and would have to transfer her to UAB. Then I guess they found one that could 4 days later. Service has been slow and poor every since! Today January 11th her blood count was reported to us as very low at 0545 and now at 1130 she has not been seen by a doctor nor have any blood been started! I hope and pray that me or my family never have to come to this hospital again!

Jimmy Eason

I LOVE THIS PLACE. I HAVE BEEN HERE A TOTAL OF SIX TIMES. THE NURSES AND DOCTORS ARE WONDERFUL. THERE ARE MORE HOSPITALS IN BIRMINGHAM BUT, I WOULD ""NOT"" GO TO THEM. IN MY OPINION THIS HOSPITAL CARES FOR EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR STAY. NOTE: BE A GOOD PATIENT AND THE NURSES WILL GIVE YOU MORE THAN EXCELLENT CARE. JIMMY EASON

Arrived at 6 am for surgery, we waited an additional 4 hours after staying in recovery 2 hours waiting for a room. Didn't have anything to eat since 7:30 pm the previous day. Then they forgot to bring a dinner tray. The patient care tech could not find a pillowcase, later could not find a flat sheet to go on the bed, later they did not have face towels. (3 different people on different days) Paging system in room interrupted rest all night, day 2 did not receive breakfast Requested, day 3 did not receive breakfast. Someone had to go "find" something. My spouse went to get juice for me, there was none to be found. It took nurse over 2 hours to bring pain meds. (Meds could be taken every 4 hours, this was heading toward 7 hours!) Other things went wrong during the stay, but these are the things which bothered me the most. You should not have to be bothered with these type things right after surgery.

Sandy Morton

My daughter went into preterm labor and had her baby at 31 weeks. The baby is still in the NICU. My daughter delivered C-Section and stayed in the hospital 4 days. Food was good once she finally got an understanding with the woman delivering the food that she couldn’t be in her room all the time because the baby was in NICU. The woman was nice after that. The issue is her discharge from the hospital. It was on a Sunday and the nurse gave her the discharge papers to sign and brought her a cart and asked us to please return the cart to 2nd floor. There was no wheelchair, no help she walked out told us to be sure and get the little birth notice off the door before we leave. My daughter and I walked out pushing the cart all the way to the car where it was parked in the deck, unloaded her things and walked the cart back up to 2nd floor. I’m pretty sure that this is not policy. There was no mention of being walked out in a wheel chair or we have to take you out in a wheelchair. Just sign here and bring the cart back. The baby is still in NICU for a few more weeks. It’s been very very stressful on the whole family. Most of the nurses have been super and the care great. There have been some issues with communication in the NICU among the nurses. It seems there’s not certain things that have to be followed it’s more preferable to what each nurse likes to do. The baby is almost 2 weeks old and this being my daughters first child she doesn’t know what she’s allowed to do and has asked several times about holding him etc. today was the first day she has done skin on skin. She has held him several times for short periods but never skin on skin. The nurse kept saying I’m so sorry and I can’t believe you haven’t done this. Well we didn’t know. Ok end of complaint and review. Most things have been fine but the discharge was totally wrong and if we had been thinking we would have complained at the time. Too stressed and tired

Blake Bright

Excellent nursing staff and doctors. Everyone is always extremely friendly and helpful!

Yes the wait times now at both st Vincent's are incredibly long east can have up to 7 hours ER wait times. People need to realize that they have opened a fast track clinic in the ER to take pressure off the main ER for the serious cases in which people still have to wait; that is why you see people that "don't look sick" going back. The clinic has no ER beds which means they will not be getting an IV in the arm or a heart monitor. What you see on TV is NOT the same reality as real life. Because of some primary care doctors have now stopped accepting Medicaid/Medicare the hospital ER now gets the overflow of paitients needing exams, physicals, etc. hence why they have forced to open a fast track clinic to get them out of the ER. So if you voted for Obamacare congratulations you are now seeing one of the "benefits" of forcing everyone to have insurance and why you hear there is a shortage of RNs, so if you want change go back to school get your RN degree and make a change or just go somewhere else make the drive to 280. I love st Vincent's they are the only hospital left where their employees can still pray over you and talk about God and not get into trouble.

Tom Mclemore

Admitted through ER and had an arteriogram done the next day. Not a single bad experience, the entire staff was not only professional but caring. 6th floor and Cath lab nurses were great! All Doctors kept me updated and showed the same amount of care for my well being. Hospital stays are not pleasant but the team here made us feel cared for. Thanks

While being transferred to a rehab facility from room 581 and medicated and placed on a gurney for the ride in an ambulance, I left my iPad in the room. Arriving at rehab forty minutes later I discovered it missing and called the desk across from my room and was told it had been located and was being forwarded to me no problem. This was on April 25th and it has yet to surface with many changed stories and denials.I understand the responsibility for my items is mine even medicated and on a gurney, but once the Employee admitted having the iPad , responsibility shifted to the Hospital to return my property. I have been more than patient and this is now a criminal matter.

There have been good things and not so good things over the years. At times we have said that we would not us St.Vincent anymore. One of the best things about St.Vincents isDr.Josuah Menendez, my husband and I will go where ever he is.

Great Employees

We live pretty far from the hospital. When I was in labor, all of the staff at the birthing suite was very prompt. We skipped the admission part and went straight to the labor room. Everything was in the room in a split second, nurses, equipment etc. I was in at 5.15pm, delivered my baby at 5.54pm same day!

Brad Hulker

I had surgery with Dr. Carter Harsh and am thankful for that. He was skilled and his staff took great care of me. HOWEVER, I paid over $900 on the day of the surgery and the hospital LOST THAT PAYMENT. How is that even possible? What's worse is I've spent the last 3 months sending in proof of payment and calling their office 6 DIFFERENT TIMES to correct the issue, with the last 3 a manager assuring me the matter was taken care of. I get a bill and guess what... that $900+ payment has STILL NOT BEEN CREDITED TO MY ACCOUNT! This sort of system is incompetent, negligent, and down right wrong. I would almost rather still be limping around than have to deal with this amateur billing staff. Please go somewhere else for surgery, it's not worth this amount of trouble

SHARON BROWN

Very nice and professional, even when someone got sick and had to go home they came together as a team and worked to make sure the patients was their number one concern. Great job St. Vincent. Kudos to you. You get 5 stars for being kind, considerate, caring, and loving to all of the patients even family members. No job was too small or too large, they we're capable of handling everything that it took in order to keep the work flow moving. Great job St. VincentHospital.

So thankful for the ER Dr and nurse I had last Monday. I ended up being admitted and had surgery done came down with pancreatitis after surgery and than bacterial pneumonia before I left. Finally got released a whole week later. It was a hit and miss with some nurses but the only problem I had was going 6 to 8 hours without ever seeing a nurse or a pca during the day and when calling it would still be hours till they came into my room. Other than that I cant complain.

Dec1st: emergency’s barber went crazy and I’m a porkypine for months for small scope up leg and had nothing but high Bp on account of Alabama Georgia game! Never again, we are mad! Don’t go in ambulance in Birmingham Al.

Anastasia Nichols

Wonderful nurses, awesome doctors, it was such a blessing to deliver my sweet baby girl at this hospital. Highly recommend it!

Stephen Harris

My wife came in Saturday January 19th she has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and COPD. She has no insurance but these people admitted her and have been doing all they possibly can to get her better. The progress has been slow but steady. We still don't when she may be well to go home. I know this for a fact you couldn't find a better hospital.

Jenny Guarr

Horrible experience during stay in Hospital. incompetent lab tech ruined an very difficult to place IV, PIC team took over 5 hours to respond to request for new IV leaving me with no means of critical treatment. Nurse did not keep me informed, was lazy and unresponsive Avoid 7th floor Main of St. Vincent's. Patients are ill treated, by staff.

Cherrye Todd

St. Vincent's Health System is very caring and efficient .

William Martin

We had a great experience except for being put in a room with active mold from a leak by the window on the ceiling.

Jerome Millican

Great nurses, amazing Doctors, wonderful caring facility !

Tommie Hardy

Do not go to this hospital emergency room. The staff is terrible. they weren't helpful for me to find my uncle. He was actually at St. Vincent's East. I will never go to this hospital of horrors again! I recommend St. Vincent's East the staff is more thoughtful and helpful.

Simply Awesome

Barry Hamric

As a leading health insurance broker for almost 30 years in the Birmingham market I have experience with all the hospitals in Jefferson County. I watched the system at this hospital fail every day for almost three weeks with a family member. This system is broken. As a matter of fact, many of the care givers in the building agree. I feel compelled to help others benefit from what we observed. You have a choice in hospitals: For the love of your family members, go somewhere else. I don't say this out of anger or grief, I say this out of basic common sense. People should know our story. It would take too long to explain everything that went wrong. Nothing short of bizarre at times, downright scary at other times. There are care givers in the building that are absolutely excellent at their job. They are at the mercy of system that fails the patients they care about.

Richard Wyatt

been calling now for 2 hours trying to check on inlaw with heart problems plus the number on the web site say's birmingham when its really blount county st, vincents,,,, rude lazy staff no staff wants to answer the phone,,, I see it going down like caraway, use to be a great place to go not anymore......

Randall Collum

My mother has been in there for 3 weeks she walked in an now she out of her mind most of the time cant get any straight answers, came in with low oxygen level dr took her of her med s she has been on for 20 years hasn't done anything but gone down hill since she came in ,no answers I would never let any of my family come here.

Miayeta Walker

I love St Vincent's.It's the hospital with the most caring doctors and staff in Birmingham. There is never a time that I have went to this hospital and not been 100% satisfied. There is no other hospital that I would rather go to for all my healthcare needs.

T. Barnes

I thought it was a very nice facility which has an adjoining hotel for patients not local to the area.

Tina Alldredge

I have been hospitalized many many times. St Vincent's Birmingham hospital is amazing with a superb staff.

Richard Zarzaur

This one star is for the customer service and billing issues! Their care was above average but trying to resolve a billing issue over the phone is next to impossible. They sent my account to a collection agency because of a billing issue. They needed more information from my doctor and I talked to them numerous times and didn't get that information from them for 10 months. I contacted my doctor and told them what billing needed and provided my doctor with the fax number they gave me. That was two months ago. The collection agency contacted me again two days ago. I called St Vincent's customer service again and come to find out they didn't get the fax from my doctor and they didn't know who that fax number belongs to. One thing I didn't know until today is that if you call St Vincent's and ask for billing you get customer service, you aren't allowed to speak with the billing department that is actually causing you trouble. My doctor fax the new information today and I call to make sure they have it. They tell me that they can't access faxes for at least 24 hour. Also that the fax number my doctor faxed to was customer service not billing, because they can't give you billings fax number. Yesterday I wanted to speak to a supervisor and was told one would call me back within 24 hours, just proves they can't count either. "Customer Service" what a joke. The only quality service I received was from the hospital staff while I was admitted. I guess that is where they hire the people with brains and that's a good thing.

One of your employees find the shooting in Vegas funny her name is Jennifer Fox and said she's happy about all the dead white people and talks about white privileged.

Lisa Morris

Parking is to expensive, drive over an hour to get there and stay 4 hours and pay 6.50 to park I can't afford to come everyday so had to start coming every other day and stay only 30 minutes for 2 00

Sherman Rockwell

Please, if I have a problem and you're around, do NOT take me here. I have been there several times to visit and seen towels, trash and medical devices laying on the floor in the ER. I have witnessed the nursing staff ignore the cries of the patients. I have seen unconscious patients bumped into walls on gurneys breaking the skin. Take me to UAB!!!

Carl Toups

Awesome Hospital Awesome Doctors and most importantly AWESOME NURSES!

Tiffany Posey

It's funny for me to see a few people saying they had surgery here but they couldn't save my mom by draining the little blood off her brain and telling my aunt that they don't believe in surgeries like really I'll recommend nobody to come here it's been 3months today since my mom been gone

Tyler Mareth

Even though they were short staffed and full in the ER, I got out of there in 3 hours.

jim richmond

We were in a accident and my wifes arm was broken.. slow night and they took 3 hrs to look at my wife. They said she was just bruised. They could tell. Told her to stop making so much of nothing. Came in a pushed on her and where going to show she wasn't really hurt. They almost got punched. They finally said ok let's do an xray . Mocking her and smirking all the way. Her arm was broken in 3 places. They said lets get you some pain meds and gave a shot that did not work. They then informed us they do not treat breaks and said she could go. 3 others where in the crash and they said they could tell they where fine. Worst staff and behavior I have ever seen . 7 hours with condisending quacks. Told them she had a latex alergy and they rolled their eyes. They put her in a sling where she developed big bubbles that developed and popped. They have left scars.

Ericka Cole

I recently went there because of a fall that occurred in my home from an undiagnosed autoimmune disease. I was transferred by ambulance , given a tetanus shot, pain meds and made to walk to restroom (eventhough my condition made it hard). I was sent home with ibuprofen as a pain reliever. I returned home only to have to rushed back to another hospital where I was told I had bleeding on my brain from the initial fall and was kept there and finally getting a diagnosis for the reason for the fall. I will not bring ANY family members or recommend any friends for this hospital, they sent me home to die!

Colton Park

I am currently sitting in the ER waiting room and I've been her for over an hour with possible appendicitis. There has been a man standing at the front desk to for over 15 minutes with no on at the front desk to help. So far, poor service, not in a hurry. An update: finally went back and the staff was amazing! 4 stars, one left off for the waiting room.

Doug Beard

Everyone one I have interacted with at this Hospital has seemed to be glad to go out of their way to help me. It was rather confusing to find my way around the first time I visited but all the staff there are extremely friendly with my numerous questions.

Rstash 17

I love it because WWE edge who is Adam Copland had his surgery here and please the people that read this I mean the doctors can u tell If Adam Copland actually had his surgery here or not because I saw him on youtube going to this hospital. Thank u

Alethea Thomas

Staff and wait times were excellent. However there is a Beautiful fountain out front that is full of trashy water and not in working order. So sad that they won't fix it and get it going again. Its not like they are broke. They probably being in millions a day.

isaiah sanchez

Done been waiting 4 hrs after the appointment for a surgical procedure. 9am to 12pm taking too long!

Kevin Broadaway

4 kids here amazing staff and facility EVERTIME! Best nurses and doctors in the country.

Sandra Goree

Medical service is great, getting information on the phone sucks, patient was hungry because they were not served lunch or dinner!!!

Jennifer Fox.... It’s quite disturbing to know you have an employee work for you that thinks the Las Vegas tragedy is good. We all are aloud to have opinions, except when it comes to people loosing their lives for no reason. You may want to second guess who you have representing you. In work or not, good or bad, your employees actions reflect what you represent. Calling a mass murder a legend. I do not think she is in the position to work in a hospital that is supposed to look after the well being of humans if she thinks killing people is okay and does not feel bad.

Linda Walker

My son was seen in your ER and the person who brought him did not put me down for his contact person, I called there billing department to get a copy of the charges and because of the HIPPA guidelines and He's considered an adult I could not have them but he can call and request them himself, really I guess they expect this 16 year old to pay the bill also, that helps me, ok. Make sure you get your money from him since you will not allow me any information.

My Drs are at St Vincent's Hospital both of my older Children were born there Wonderful place and caring loving nurses and Drs

I've never had an issue with any of my many many ER visits or routine Doctor visits in this hospital. I've always been seen promptly and triaged in the proper order. The one thing I did notice throughout the hospital and Dr. Offices is that the nurses are so stressed that they do not take proper BP readings. Most nurses just make up a number because they are distracted. Also I found that being discharged 5 hours after laproscopic hyster surgery was just heartless! Talk about needing those beds!!

Dr. Amy Fulmer, she took me off my meds without lowering my dos. She has put me in a bad situation, that now I can die any moment. No doctor should be allowed to do this. Now I'm in serious pain and can't do anything about it. Who can I report her to. Someone please help me. Thanks

Matthew Ford

Loved travel and just working weekends for few months. Enjoyed weekdays off with family. Installed New Complete OR integration system from the fiber optic backbone to the monitors and the end of the OR arms and other devices. Complete system solution and installation.

Jared Snider

The nurse's felt it was more important to shove Hydrocodones down my throat rather than due what they went to medical school for there service and attitude was very humiliating disrespectful, after refusing and returning three times for treatment that ultimately I nearly died from.Along with U.A.B. these are perfect examples of patient dumping and how the ever growing opioid epidemic is out of control.

JB

Delivered my 3rd baby here and my nurses were absolutely wonderful!! My night nurse made the whole experience enjoyable. HOWEVER, because my son was born with a heart defect and was rushed over to Children's of AL, they felt the need to rush me out of my delivery room. I delivered my other two children in Baltimore and I was required to stay a full 2 days to recover from childbirth. I was in labor at St. Vincent's for 12 hours, delivered my son at 8am, and the hospital staff kept telling me I could leave as early as that night. On a brighter note, the nurses that helped deliver my son were credited with saving his life by the doctors! They recognized symptoms very quickly, rushed him to NICU to stabilize him until he was transported to Children's. Your nurses are FANTASTIC!!

Deloris Rowe

I had a biopsy today and the staff was wonderful. They seemed competent, caring and concerned. They made a difficult experience much better than i imagined. Thank you!

Teresa Shadaon

Not where I wanted to spend my day, however I had the the ER nurse ever!!!!! Amanda you where my blessing today. Thank you. Oh and the Dr was wonderful as well as everyone else.

Rikesha Foster

I had a somewhat lengthy stay here March 2015 (8 days). My nurses and doctors were top-notch, friendly and full of compassion. They were knowledgeable, easy to talk with and concerned, which are qualities that seem to be missing from the healthcare field these days. Even the food was great, albeit I was on a regular diet. Everyone made my stay here much more pleasant, especially with it being my first stay in the hospital, and especially since no one goes to the hospital and stays unless they are really sick. Thanks St. Vincent's, for making my stay feel almost like home.

Candance Collum

My grandmother just passed away at St. Vincent's after a month of horrible care. She was moved to five different floors and a couple of hours after her last move I walked in to her room, where she had obviously passed, to a group of shocked staff that stated they had just checked on her fifteen minutes before and she was ok. I was told a doctor would call me which has still not happened (she died at 7pm on July 1st it's now July 7th). And I sat with her body for an hour and a half after she died and saw no staff but a nurse (though we did get a card from the "spiritual care team" sent to her address 5 days later). My grandmother went in with a mild issue which I personally feel the hospital exacerbated and created new issues on top of. She endured a ridiculous number of tests over the course of a month and we were never given a diagnosis and still have no real idea what happened or why she got progressively worse. We asked for a transfer of hospitals and were told we would need to speak to a chaplain which never happened and we never saw one. All of the incidents that happened are too many to list here, though I did document them and took what photos I could. I would not even take my pets to this hospital. I highly doubt this review will do any good, as my father did one as well before her death and got a reply to please call them. He did so hoping they would help resolve the issues we were having and had to leave a message and was never contacted back. If you can help it and you love the people in your life DO NOT take them to this hospital. I live down the street and will never go here again.

sara hodge

This is the worst hospital, seriously, it's never clean the room floors are always sticky and the the bathrooms dirty, the doctors seem to take their time when it comes to seeing the patients and discharging them, it's ridiculous my mother in law and father in law have had hospital stays here several several times due to health issues they have and we've never had a pleasant experience here, I advice anyone against this place! Go to UAB, or anywhere else for that matter!

Orion’sNebulaLover

On the night that my friend was admitted to the hospital after having spent 12 hours in the emergency department being mistreated by the nurses in the ED she was transferred to 3 west lying in feces and with enosis on her gown. The nurse was a male, of African heritage who obviously has no compassion and should find another line of work. The next morning I attempted to visit her before she went downstairs for an EGD and a colonoscopy I spent 20 minutes circling through the women's center parking deck and never found a parking spot. Finally in sheer desperation I parked illegally. Once inside the hospital, all I can say is "way finding" is next to impossible. It is easier finding your way around UAB than here. If you have a choice, choose another healthcare provider.

Belle Haggermaker

Told to be here at 10:30. Test scheduled for 11. Still not even registered. Then I went to ask a question and was met with a nasty rude response from the person at the desk. She snarkily stated that critical patients come first! Well DUH! I know this! Wasn't my question!

Kimberley Myers

I was taken to St Vincent’s Birmingham via.ambulance a couple of days after a car accident with a fluke heart/trauma incident. From the moment I arrived I was treated in the most belittling, dehumanizing manner. As if I didn’t know anything about my own body and the difference about how it felt when it was normal & when something was terrible wrong. None of the staff from the nurse to the nursing assistants to the dr, a Dr Maude Crepault would listen to anything I told them. I am an extremely difficult stick when it comes to drawing blood or starting an IV & most of the time a member of the PIC team has to be called. Because this was a Sunday, supposedly the PIC team wasn’t there, so the dr brought in a a sonogram machine to find a vein which was in the top of my arm. It hurt like heck. So bad that my arm & hand began to swell. I pressed the nurses button to let them know this & after 12 minutes of the alarm going off, a long haired CNA came in the room & I told him what the problem was. He said he would tell my nurse, but in the meantime I had to be taken to CT. There was someone currently having a CT, so I was left in the hallway for 30 minutes. I again told this CNA told him that this IV needed to be looked at & he said in a belittling tone, “I’ll let the nurse know & as soon as you return, she’ll take a look “. When the CT tech, who was the only person in the entire hospital with any compassion or sense for that matter came out with the patient she had been working with & got me, she was asking the usual questions as to whether I was allergic to contrast and such. I said no. I didn’t even have to tell her the trouble I was having with the IV because she took one look at my arm and could see how much bigger it was than the other. First she wanted to know who put it in and then she asked if I had asked them to look at it & I said yes. She immediately removed it. She did attempt to put one more in my hand but it instantly blew & she wasn’t going to put me through any other pain. I had been back from CT for almost an hour when that same CNA came in to see if they had checked on my IV. When it was first inserted it was to give me pain & nausea meds plus fluids. The dr had ordered Zoltan for nausea & I asked if she would please give me phenogran instead. Zophran doesn’t work for me. I have a long history of migraines & nausea is a common symptom that occurs with my migraines & phenogran is the only thing that will work. She refused. I asked to see the dr. in charge of the ER, but instead the sent in the charge nurse who was about as useful as a piece of dust on the ground. I also asked for each of their names & was told it would be on the paper work when I left, which I knew was a lie as soon it was said. That Monday I called the head of the Emergency Room, a Ruth White to explain the treatment I had received. I have still not received a call back from her. She has now had 10 days to return my call which is more than enough time to respond. I have only made one call to her. I have not harassed her with multiple messages, but tomorrow I will call her again. This time if I do not get a response from her, I will go above her head and find out who her boss is. I don’t find going to the emergency room a pleasant way to spend my day. It was not how I wanted to spend my Sunday. However, when I do go I expect to be treated with compassion, respect, and like someone who knows what is wrong with their body. I don’t want other people to receive the same care that I did. I expect their to be some type of repercussion for their actions. I don’t just want to vent at a figure head. Take my advice, the next time you are in need of medical emergency care, do not go to St. Vincent’s Birmingham! If there were an option to not give any stars, I would not. If they continue to practice this type of patient care, there ER will no longer exist.

Tammy Price

Excellent health care.

Recently spent two nights at St Vincent's after knee surgery which was a great experience as far as the ortho. Dr's. and nurses and the hospital staff. BUT from the first time I turned on my TV it didn't work properly . I called Several times, told nurses and was told they would take care of it. . I NEVER RECEIVED A DIFFERENT TELEVISION. I feel so petty even bringing it up the BUT to stay there those 2 nights and the amount of money that cost it just doesn't seem right. Maybe by me complaining something will change for the next person.

Nancy Hamric

If I could give 0 Stars I would. Don't respond with your canned answer of call us so we can discuss the situation further. My dad was there for 20 days, and passed away. I requested that someone come speak with us during his stay. Crickets!!!! I have worked in healthcare for almost 25 years, and I have never seen anything run like this "system." It is obvious that you do not like dealing with Medicare patients. Especially ones that mess up your outcomes due to a longer length of stay. ( Shocked that I know how all of that works, huh? ) I wouldn't bring my dogs to St. Vincent's for a nail trim. Not one thing in 20 days went smoothly. Anyone reading this; if you care about yourself or your loved ones, drive 5 more miles to Grandview or Princeton.

Ron Reed

I went to the ER on 6/25/2019 for CT scan, blood work for GI problem. My doctor sent me to ER to make sure I didn't have a perforation. The experience for me was nothing short of excellent. From the registration, test, ct scan and staff, was wonderful . Can't say enough good things about my visit

Jon Eric aka ShyExtrovert

The entire staff was friendly and comforting to not only me, but my family. Growing up in a medical home I must say they impressed me and my spouse (a doctor) .

Marlena Brown

Because the saint vincent hospital has let my fiancee and his friend that i will not say who their names will remain unknown. And the saint vincent hospital are suppose too take care of the patients and not make them go hungry or do without medical attention

The doctors I see are great. But the price of parking keeps going up. I have to see my doctor weekly and now for parking for 45 min, I had to pay $5 dollars. Seriously why does the price keep going up? Most hospitals atleast let patients park free. Last year I ended up paying over $40 just for my husband to stay with me at night after I had our son.

Morgan Turner

I broke my ankle and was admitted to surgery the same day. Stayed overnight for pain management. All the staff I encountered were lovely and willing to get whatever I needed. Great experience with that and aftercare/therapy.

Merrill Aldrich

Adequate care in a tired facility. Have an advocate with you, ask a lot of questions, watch the nursing staff carefully. Communucation and basic services are sort of C-. I should clarify that the person I'm caring for is a parent who has been hospitalized for eight days with congestive heart failure, the last three of those in this hospital. We still have only a vague suggestion of treatment, nothing concrete, nothing actually scheduled. I flew to this hospital across the country and have sat here three full says watching, waiting, helping. So this is no off-the-cuff review. Tonight they almost didn't feed the patient dinner.

Todd Talley

My mom fell and her head was swollen and broke her wrist and we've been here for 5 hours and no Dr has been in to see her. They won't give her anything for pain this is ridiculous and we will be contacting a lawyer

Shakiyla Parker

I went to the ER immediately after a car wreck only because the other two hospitals that I chose Before this one was full. Before finding out what was wrong or if i was hurting or had anything on me that was broken they had me to walk Instead of giving me a wheelchair after I arrived. I was not given a room to wait in nor did i have a doctor to speak with me about possible pain or what they think maybe wrong. I did have XRays done but the Xray tech was pretty rough with me during that time frame. I had to constantly tell her that I was in pain & to be careful how she just turn the area that was in pain.Instead of simply taking her time to tell me where or how to move areas that were very sore. She assist on turning me roughly the way & angles that she needed me in. I'm very attentive & I take directions very well. So, I would've simply turned how she wanted/needed me to. I was in the car wreck with my significant other but we were transported in separate ambulances. Therefore, I did NOT see them while i was in the hospital. After XRays I politely asked if i could be stopped at a desk that we were passing to ask if my significant other had made it in & if they had a room etc because not seeing them there by this time i was very worried. I was pushed passed the desk to a waiting area with three other people & told that i would have to wait for a nurse to come in. I waited 15mins & no one came in. So, I then struggled to the desk to ask if that person had made it in. The nurse verified that they did & gave me their room number. Now Let me remind you that i was the person with insurance & I made it to the hospital wayy before my significant other did. Not long after I saw him I was then released maybe 30 mins after they were done with Xrays. It was my first car wreck so i only knew that I'll have some pain. All I was told was that I had no broken bones. In which I already knew that.I honestly felt as if i was judged from the time that i came in & that I was treated like a person who didn't have any insurance in which I did!! And very good insurance may I add. I feel like they ONLY cared about the payments & the fact that i had insurance. They didnt actually care about the patient. I've been to them three or four times in the matter of three years and each & every time Their service was horrible. Because of how I was treated I would NOT go back there again nor would I refer anyone or even take a family member there not even for a paper cut!
