As an owner of a busy real estate office, it's important for me to get fast, accurate reports. Commonwealth does all that and more.

I use this company for my residential pest control. Everyone is very nice and the exterminators they send out are informative and professional.

Commonwealth Exterminating Company has been a good resource. Managing HUD communities, this company has offered training that I and my staff attended on Bed Bugs and prevention measures. They are successful in their service for pest removal and follow-up. I highly recommend this company for your pest control.

I have been with this company for ten years. My service technician, Richard, has been wonderful and always professional. My experience with the front office, however has declined to the point that I have terminated my service with the company. David, the manager??? has an entitled and nasty attitude. Furthermore they will come to your house, do a 10 minute service (by David's own account) and charge you $100 - even when you don't have one scheduled. Scheduling can be a problem if no one calls you back after your tech is a no show either (scheduling error - not the tech.) Until the front office sees new management, avoid this place

Update - I'm please to say that the company is now initiating a new policy regarding quotes/paperwork to ensure situations such as these will not occur again in the future. *Penalizes you financially for taking their own advice! In my opinion.* (I edited the review today due a mention of court from commonwealth exterminating's phone message.) This company was hired through a property manager as I am out of the area. They visited my house, sent a quote, I approved certain work, signed for ~$800 of work to be completed, told them to wait until the Spring to reevaluate the situation, specifically in regards to adding a sump pump. Side note: The suggestion to wait was given by their tech after the initial visit and the same tech kind enough to return a phone call. After completion of the work I received the invoice and there was an additional charge of $200. When questioned about the additional $200, their answer was "a trip charge because you did not go along with the estimate of the sump pump recommendation". (Wow! Because I took their advice I said to wait for the work, I get to pay them $200.) Also, on the faxed invoice there was a note that an area was not completed due to water. I’m not able to verify if the work was completed and am not comfortable assuming all is complete. I own this home, am not the residence, and it’s managed through a property management company. Because of this, I feel obligated to pay. If you are a home owner , if you rent properties, my opinion would be to not use this company.

I 've had a twilight zone experience with them and and want to share it with the viewers. I do not use Commonwealth Ext. but I started getting bills and past due notices from them in September. When I confront them, they said that they don't have a signed service contract for the work done on 7/7/16. I asked them how does this happen? I do not use your company. It is like being billed for a car that you did not buy. The lady said that she would fix the problem and call me back. I did not get a call back but I had assumed that the problem would be fixed. In November, I got the same letters again. A bill and a past due notice warning me about none payment and sending me a collection agency. I am really upset now. Since calling them did not fix the situation, my husband and I went to the office . We said that we need to see the manager or the owner. The office manager is Cory Newell. He took us upstairs and begin looking in the computer. I said to him that we got a problem. I don't use Commonwealth Ext Co, but now they are threatening me with collecting agency. He said that he is the one who does this and he has not done so.What in the world? I am even madder now. I kept on telling these people that I don't use their services and they need to stop their harassment! He left us sitting there while he looked for the nonexistent service contract. After 15 minutes, he came back and said "I tell you what I will do for you". What they need to do is to said that they are sorry about what they've put me through and correct the mistake immediately . I told him that they need to stop sending me the foolish letters. He screamed " You cut me off. You did not let me finish talking!" He then threw us out the office. He even went to the front door and hold the door while creaming "leave". I am writing the review to let everyone know about this company. I don't think that the owner and his wife know what is going there. Despite of all that happened. No one said that they are sorry for the mistake and the perpetual harassment. It seems to me that Mr Cory Newell cares more about his feelings than the business that he was paid to run . Maybe when he finds out that I am not a customer of their business, he feels that he can be rude and nasty.

I am an agent at Greg Garrett Realty and Commonwealth has been my go to termite/moisture company since the beginning of my career. They do excellent work and I have been very satisfied whenever I have used them. They are the first company I call. There was one particular time when I was especially glad that I used Commonwealth. A seller had an old house where we noticed signs of potential foundation problems by sloped flooring. I got the standard home inspection and a termite/moisture inspection. I also got a foundation inspection. The sellers wanted me to use their termite and moisture company that they had the property under warranty with, but I advised the buyer I was representing to insist that we get our own inspection with our own termite/moisture company. It was an older house that had settled and the inspectors had difficulty getting into the crawl space. Out of the 3 inspectors, the only one who said that he was willing to dig in order to get into the crawl space was Chris Seek with Commonwealth. Chris and I cleared away some rocks and he was able to get into the crawl space. What he found was 10's of thousands of dollars worth of damage to the foundation. The termite company that had this house under warranty refused to acknowledge that there was a problem (they probably never crawled underneath the house!). We were able to get out of the contract on the house that otherwise would have seemed to be a good deal. Someone else bought the house and to our knowledge, those major foundation issues with visible evidence through sloped flooring and plenty of evidence underneath the house have never been resolved to this day. After that, we found another older home in a historic district. While it didn't have nearly the sloping of the first home, Commonwealth did find that it needed a lot of work in its foundation as well. This time, the seller was willing to do the work, and the buyer I was working with not only had the problem resolved but got new flooring as a result throughout most of the 1st floor of their house at no added cost to the buyer! When I bought my own house, Commonwealth didn't find anything wrong with it, and I was glad to know that if something could have been found, they would be much more likely to find it and thoroughly resolve it than many other termite/moisture companies.

The staff are absolutely amazing. Professional and well organized. They have been my top choice of exterminating company since I purchased my home and have done an exemplary job. The company is family based and makes you feel like you are part of something other than just being a client. Thank you Commonwealth for everything you have done for my family and our home!

One of the best companies in the Commonwealth of Virginia even has Commonwealth in its name--- and rightly so! This family-owned business located in Newport News really knows how to put its customers first. A= teamwork - they get the job done - price-competitive - and the family is always courteous to me and my family members. Thanks for keeping my home worry and bug-free!

Sara Vaughn

I have worked with Cory and his team of professionals for at least 5 years. There is no bug or challenge they will not undertake. Their prices are reasonable. And Cory is just a well rounded good soul. He is also an ordained minister in the state of Virginia and we ran back into each other on the Beach of Sand Bridge in VA for on of my Best Friends, Daughters weddings. I think that was the most awesome service I have ever attended! He is also getting ready to join the Air Force as a Chaplain for them (I hope I got that right). It breaks my heart that ANYONE WOULD POST A NASTY REVIEW ABOUT THIS COMPANY OR THE OWNER!!!! I challenge you to contact me if you have a problem. I will always support you! Thanks for your Service.
