I received my second quarterly treatment last week. It was night and day better than the first one. Troy, my technician was accompanied by another man, who I believed was the new region manager.
I initially contracted for the service for three issues: ants, spiders, and most importantly, moles. The technician providing the first service in June was very quick, and even indicated that it was his last day, which gave me little hope as to the quality of the work. However, within a couple of weeks, the ants appeared nonexistent, the spiders were gone (although the webs started reappearing about a month and a half later), but the mole situation, if anything, appeared to be worse than ever. If I had rated the service then, I would have probably given it one star, two at best.
Last week's service was the exact opposite. Troy and his manager were here for over an hour, as I explained the issues and results I had seen, both positive and negative. We walked the property, including all the mole hills and raised tunnel areas. While the invoice indicated the exact same chemical type and quantity was applied, it was obvious Troy was more dedicated and detailed in his application than the technician performing the first treatment was, and clearly knew what he was doing. The manager, meanwhile. was examining the mole situation, and baiting the hills with gummy worms. Based on the thoroughness of the treatment, I would have rated this visit five stars.
With it only being almost a week later, it is too early to draw any final conclusions about how effective this latest treatment was. The ants are still gone, and so far, no new spider webs. As for the moles, I think the activity has decreased. Normally after stomping down and removing the piles of fresh dirt, the following day there are usually at least one or two new piles, and during the course of a week, nearly a dozen (the problem is bad). I can honestly say in the five days since treatment, I only see two new piles, which is a definite improvement. Time will tell if it stays that way.
In summary, I think the effectiveness of this service is highly dependent on the technician you get. Their products many be effective, but like anything else, if not applied properly, won't work. Since both of these treatments were at the extreme opposite ends of the service scale, I'll reserve final judgment until after my next quarterly visit, before deciding if I will renew for next year.
