REVIEWS OF Old Faithful IN Wyoming

Always love going to old faithful. A MUST for any trip heading in or through yellowstone. Take your time and watch the geyser go!

Belicia Anderson Carter

I got there early. It was easy to park with plenty of seating. Sit along the edge of the boardwalk for the best pictures. I'm so glad I was able to experience it.

Avani Jain

Very faithful geyser. It erupts every one hour approximately. We had cabins near the geyser and could see it from our cabin as well. Recommend to stay in old faithful lodge, inn or cabins to enjoy the geyser area. There is nice trail around the geyser to explore it.

Sam Kelsall

The Old Faithful geyser was wonderful. Went off for about 3 minutes. Reached maybe 150 feet. Saw it once in morning and once in afternoon. In between went on board walk to see other geysers that we smaller and not regular in appearing. Liked Riverside geyser which was regular and almost as big in volume as old faithful. But not near as high.

Ildiko Scott

We got there and we had to wait approximately a 1/2 hour, so we sat there with tons of other people just waiting for it to go off. It was so worth the wait it. Started off really slowly and started going off a little bit and then it stopped and the little bit and it stopped and it really made everybody anticipated it was awesome when it finally went off.

Mitchell White

Today was a great day. We saw a 75' eruption and it was spectacular. This is a must see for everyone everywhere. There's nothing like it!

Thanet Flint

Yellowstone is still very busy even with the start of school near. Pack you patience and be flexible. It's all so incredibly beautiful and awe inspiring.

Michael Farris

A place, like Niagara Falls, which you must see but turns out to be less than hoped for. There are so many more interesting places around the park like Mammoth Springs and Roaring Mountain (pictured). Go to Old Faithful so you can say you did. Then go explore the other, better, attractions

Jessica Fuentes

So amazing!!! The community and park rangers have really worked hard to keep this place as close to pristine as possible! It is beautiful and awe inspiring. Mother Nature is massive and powerful.

morgan zach

Very neat and a must do experience. The Old Faithful visitors center gives the expected time it will burst. We waited for a half hour but it was well worth the wait.

loteneh

Spectacular!! The Visitors Center was great. (Be sure to look for the binder Good Ideas/Bad Ideas at the Information Desk.) They have lots of places to sit as you wait for the eruption. There was a Ranger who came around to answer questions and talk about geysers. The eruption of Old Faithful was really amazing, AND we got lucky, and the Beehive geyser erupted a few minutes later, it's only eruption that day. We enjoyed our time there!

Victoria Rafa

This is the main attraction. There are prettier sites, interesting wildlife, people from all over the world. One can not skip this geyser when in Yellowstone.

Tom Strobehn

Always a favorite. Timing seems to be off from what I can remember when I lived in the area 25 years ago. But never less Yellowstone is just an amazing experience that every person should try at least once in their lifetime. Stay in cabin or in the lodge, plenty of great food and drinks to go with it. Bring your loved one or the entire family, there is plenty to see and do, I am not as worried about the wild life unless its a moose but the mosquitos are straight killers so be sure to bring repellent to fend off these pesky flying miniature vampires!!!!

Patt Dolan

A little underwhelming, but interesting. So many people! Very commercialized. We didn't see one bison during our visit. Beautiful scenery!

Nancy Robinson

Been to Yellowstone three times now. It is an incredible place. Love seeing Old Faithful erupt.

Savanna Williams

The time they post is pretty spot on give or take about 10 minutes. Be patient and try to maintain it when tourist from other countries don't quite understand personal space (you'll understand if you go) Enjoy.

Iriana Cruz

A sure show. Verify at the lodge the expected time and just sit and watch nature's show. Must see. I loved it during sunset

Heath and Heather Christensen

It is the most magical place on Earth. If they had to unicorns it would be even better. 8)

Jeremiah Newell

They schedule when the water sprays up. It's pretty cool, but more showtimes would be nice. I found out there isn't a "feeding time" for the bears. I guess the animals just eat whenever they want.

Cynthia Munoz

Have visited Old Faithful twice and it's still pretty cool. Be careful of others trying to push past you to get a better view. No excuse me or manners. A park ranger is usually around to answer questions and provide the approx time the show will start.

Irene

Huge parking lot makes you think the area will be jam-packed but it's actually very spacious. Restaurant, store, restrooms to visit while you wait for the next eruption. Plenty of seating not only on the boardwalk but also behind it in the shade if you don't mind sitting close to the ground. Dogs are allowed in that area and was happy to find so many people brought theirs along.

Husky Murse

They are able to estimate the time of eruption. Crazy packed so you may want to stay for a second iteration in order to get in front, especially if you have children. We posted our 2 youngest atop our shoulders to see.

Akshay A

Watched the geyser erupt and it was fascinating. The park provides the eruption times and most of the times it happens in the interval that they have specified. Faithful indeed!!

Derek Morgan

Parking is ample, but you may have to walk. It was beautiful. Clean facilities. Cross it off the bucket list!

Polar Bear

Wow and wow. This is one of those things in life that is so amazing. Worth every minute of waiting! Highly recommend seeing Old Faithful. Wait times were approximately 98 minutes.

Sharon White

We actually had not planned to wait for eruption on this visit but stopped to see the Old Faithful Lodge exterior since it is closed for the season. We realized we had a wonderful view from the back of the building and we happened to be there at the right time for a viewing. We took a few pictures and were on our way. It is gorgeous!

a'chi limm

Wonderful place you should see. If you want to see huge eruption of Old Faithful, you have to wait few minutes or ask ranger for infomation about time of eruption. It's not comes up often. You can see another eruption on the trail, also. Trail for walk and ride a bike are separate.

Lacee Jones

Still "Faithful" all these years later! Most amazing thing to see the pressure that mother Earth let's go of daily. Great family fun trip everyone should take!

Sheri Mueller

GO EARLY- get a good seat and wait for it. It goes off pretty frequently and there's plenty of benches, but in the middle of the day it's a mad-house. We got there early (around 8 am) in the middle of July and watched it fine, but when we left the parking lot was packed. The gift shop there was great, we bought quite a few things. They had hats on sale that were really cute! I would definitely get right in and go straight here, then hit Black Sand Basin and Prismatic Springs etc.

Chuck Williams

A dream came true today...spending a few nights in this Old Beautiful Inn! The logs of this place hold many great stories! Just stunning...inside and out

Samantha Eastman

You can spend all day here, great sit down food, I recommend the buffet was excellent, there’s a cafeteria, visiting center and a hotel. The Geysers and trails to all of them were so well taken care off. Definitely plan the whole day here

Brenda Dudash

It is "faithful", give or take 10 min. Plenty of room for people to watch, which is good because there were hundreds gathered when I arrived. Even with the crowds, it's possible to get pics and videos.

Edmund Kreeger

A must see! A true national treasure! It's totally awesome. All the national parks are awesome, Yellowstone will not disappoint. Go see it and enjoy!

Janet Robbins

We watched Old Faithful from the cafeteria as well as sitting on the benches in front. There are other geysers at Old Faithful too. We saw Riverside and Grotto erupt. Fabulous!

Robere Le Huquet

Stopped for lunch as we passed through to West Yellowstone from Grand Teton NP August 2019. Old Faithful has more people than any metro area mid day. Avoid the crowds by going early to Old Faithful (before 8 am) and check out other features in the park afterward. Wildlife throughout the park best seen in the am. We have visited Yellowstone other times and suggest getting up at daybreak with an itinerary. Beat the crowds is the order of the day. Yellowstone is awesome, the crowds change the experience.

Kristin Schwarze

I have seen this geyser go off many many times. Wouldn't miss it! Great people watching too. If you can, I recommend climbing the overlook trail and watching it again with the Inn in the background.

Margaret small

Pretty cool, I wouldn't count on having service even if you have full bars while you're there. Lots of cool things to see, fairly abundant wildlife. Overall pretty sweet.

Mike Privette

Something that all ages can enjoy with ease even if you are handicapped. Easy access to the viewing area. It's Old Faithful- Yellowstone...what's not to enjoy. Only downside is the big crowds but that's to be expected.

Richard Davey

The scenery was beautiful but the hotel was very expensive. $375.00 per night. The cups in the room were all coffee stained. The food in the reasturant was cold several times. Waitress were all friendly and efficient!

Diane Thomas

We arrived at 9:50 am and learned they expected Old Faithful to erupt at 10:41. After walking around for a short time, we decided to have a seat and take in the excitement. Old Faithful did not disappoint! After experiencing Mother Nature at her finest, we walked around and checked out the other geysers. Beautiful weather and beautiful scenery.

Barbara Barber

Beautiful! I love the walking decks around the area. Lovely colors, springs and smaller geysers and springs. Wonderful to wander around!

David Lobree

What can one say about one of the most iconic natural features in the world? It is always a thrilling experience to stand there and watch Old Faithful erupt. We actually got there around 5:30 in the afternoon and the crowds were not too excessive.

Danielle Pearce

Old Faithful is not as faithful as it once was. Even so, it is one of the best known features of the national park system. In the middle of summer, waiting for an eruption is akin to waiting for a ride at an amusement park, with a huge parking lot for all the cars. They now use a computer model based on the length and height of the last eruption to predict when the next one will be.

Jay Vaidya

The advantage that Old Faithful has over most of the other geysers is that you can wait for am hour and a half at most, and see it go! There are benches to seat yourself while you wait. There is a boardwalks that takes the circuit along all of the nearby thermal features -- you could do that if there posted wait is too long (or after you have seen the Old Faithful erupt).

Jennifer Danner

Beautiful hotel. Large windows and seating to watch Old Faithful from. Snack bar open. Dining room open at 11am. Posted by the front desk last time Old Faithful went off and when it's predicted to do again. Was accurate. Was very cold this September 17, 2019 day. Snow in the higher elevations.

Deb Pham

Trails and boardwalks are newer. It was fun to visit the old lodge/hotel and the large general store. Old faithful was only 15 minutes late after the estimated time given. Snag a bench early to get good seating on the boardwalk.

Michael Broido

Regular eruptions roughly 90 minutes apart (was 76 minutes 5 years ago). No audio warning as eruption begin. This geyser is the star attraction of an entire field of thermal sites, connected by boardwalks that protect the delicate surfaces.

S

TBH, pretty overrated. There's hundreds of other beautiful geysers nearby and throughout the park that you can marvel at without the bus loads of tourists crowding around them like ants. Do yourself a favour and check out some of the lesser 'famed' ones which are just as beautiful but way less overrun.

Aubrey Slade

Very exciting and fun. The geyser erupted almost completely on time. Very exciting to see raw nature. There is lots of seating that is perfect for all ages. Would recommend

Andrew White

Such an amazing place. To think this thingy goes off every day the way it does, rain or shine, morning and night. Truly a wonder. This parking lot can get rather crazy. I recommend turning left about half way into the park. It takes you to the old market and right next to the original lodge, much easier to get out of, but a little bit further of a walk.

William Giles

Where else would you find 4000 people watching a hole in the ground. Seriously while the show itself is free the facilities are patchy when I visited some of the displays at the visitor centre were not working but who cares what you are watch one of the natural wonders of the world.

somkietr rojanasathit

Great National Park, the first in the country and the world. The geyser will erupt approximately every 90 minutes, give or take faithfully thus the name, the Old Faithful. There are many hot springs, fumaroles, mud pulls nearby. It is a good education about the geothermal energy and volcanoes etc. A memorable experience.

Kshama Pai

The geyser has a fixed eruption time and so is always packed with visitors. Plenty of parking but the view point is a block away from parking. Old faithful makes you wait a bit but is beautiful to see.

Beautiful Colors

Old Faithful is really cool to see. It is hard to tell if it's gone off because theres always some smoke coming out, but when it does there will be a tall thick cloud of it. It makes no noise and it doesnt smell bad unlike the other geysers. They sell food right next to it which is pretty expensive but the hot chocolate is amazing!

Petra Brown

Come on people, this is The Place to go in Yellowstone. Yes it requires patience, but there is ice cream, a geyser walk, a hike and gift shops while you wait for the estimated time. I've gone here almost every year in my 35 year life and I still love it.

OHM OHM

The place to be to witness a geyser eruption for sure! The complex around is nice and friendly. Bit of a crowd. Perhaps somewhat of a contrast with the natural beauty of the rest of the park too in spite of clear effort to make the buildings exterior aspect into nature friendly log lodges.

sabrina bayha

It's old and it's faithful.

Blitz Krieg

Old faithful is by far the least spectacular geyser in the area. It is only famous due to the fact it's easy to time when it goes off, hence the name. Not to mention you need to get there as soon as the geyser goes off to even think about securing a spot to watch the next show. So many tourists crowd around the area in seconds. Castle and Beehive would be more of a recommendation from myself.

Daniele Moffat

Just as amazing as you've heard. We arrived about 30 minutes before it's next expected geyser. Stopped in to the Yellowstone Gift shop and found many unique finds. The geyser went off at the expected time and was just as awe-inspiring as you've heard. We sat far back, because closer could get more than just a view!

Anna Speedway

I feel blessed to be able to see this natural wonder. Even if I saw it in crowd of 1500 other tourists. Even tho Grand geyser was better IMO. There's decent hike (boardwalk mainly) to other geysers, which I recommend taking. One looking for solitude can watch thew eruption from Geyser hill. The lodging prices are ridiculous with very basic amenities.

Aaron Johnson

Obviously everyone needs to stop here for at least one show. Old Faithful erupts often and times can be found in the visitor center or even online (if you are lucky enough to have working cell service). It is going to be packed, but even if you show up late, there is standing room where you can see the show no problem. Make sure to go explore the trails around the area. Few miles of walking the trails will take you to many amazing places.

Donald Wilcox

Great place to visit. In order to see it properly should get a guide. It is so big

Dan Neeley

What can I say? Ole Faithful is on time, massive, and old. One of the great wonders of the world. Loved walking the trail around the main area. Do not walk off trail.

Syed Sajjad Husain

We first went to the old faithful inn, which is a building with old but gold design. Beautiful interior and the balcony was awesome too. We could see the old faithful geyser from there but it was a bit far. So we decided to go down. There was a swarm of people around the geyser, all ready with their cameras. And then, in ten minutes, the magic began. There was bubbling, and then the geyser erupted. It went so high in the air, must be about 20ft or so. It was an awesome sight, a real natural wonder.

Lisa Van Langen

We've visited here a few times. If possible, try to visit this busy spot either early morning or late afternoon. There's a lot of parking, but the lots do fill up during peak times in the busy season. My recent discovery is that you have a great view from the lobby of the lodge if the weather is less than spectacular. Also, lines for food and the gift shop are non-existent when an eruption is imminent! Old faithful is great, and it's totally worth it. The basin trails around it are wonderful.

Ivan Collins

The area is very well managed and prepared for thousands of guests with benches surrounding the geyser circle that go 4 rows deep. She goes off close to right on time and the visitor center has a lot of info as well as swag and food for sale. But it is a little too busy and commercial for my tastes.

Tim Scheftner

A must for any bucket list. Great shops, gas, food. The views were amazing. Its Yellowstone what do need to say. Great for families and anyone. Just go...

Pete Morgan

It is quite a site to watch Old Faithful blow but it just can not compete with Strokkur in Iceland for a truly awesome geyser experience. I would probably have been a lot more impressed if I had not visited Iceland beforehand. There are much more impressive sights to see in Yellowstone NP and visiting Old Faithful just seems to be more of a visitor ritual than a “must see” experience in my opinion. If you can find more ridiculously priced hotels in America than here though I promise you that they will be very few and far between.

Oscar Morales

Old Faithful is a fine place to be as a first timer in Yellowstone. There's definitely better stuff to see in Yellowstone. I spent more time finding parking than actually watch the eruption of the geyser. Old Faithful is overrated in general.

Hadley Youbles

Amazing display of nature but it can be super crowded. If you are willing and able, there are several other geysers you can walk/hike to. If you don't see them on your map, ask a any Park Ranger.

A Vape Ecape

Totally a bucket list item, beautiful beyond words. The natural caulderas, the wild life (we saw elk and buffalo) and pine forest beyond the eye can see.

Steph Renee

Not nearly as spectacular as expected. The geyser isn't as high off the ground as anticipated and is difficult to see due to large, waiting crowds. The eruption keeps you waiting in suspense, but was super fascinating for me and mine.

Jean Welch

Awesome eruption!! (We 1st observed Old Faithful in 1990, so it was DEFINATELY time for our return visit.) There just happened to be a baffalo strolling around as we were walking toward Old Faithful. We sat behind a young couple; each was holding an infant (twins). After seeing them struggle for a family photo at Old Faithful, I offered to snap a pic. They were from Germany! We meet the nicest foreigners (& Americans) at our national parks. Great experience at Old Faithful. ❤️

Justin Yost

Very busy place best to make this your first stop as early as possible to beat the rush of traffic. As soon as it goes off everyone leaves so parking lot gets a bit congested. Great gift/ Souvenir store. Also a good place to eat. Either at the restaurant or grab something like a quick sandwich at the gas station.

Michael West

I was first here in the early 80,s and although Old Faithful is a must see it has become so busy during the summer it harder to enjoy. I think when and if I come back I would like to see it in winter.

Ranae Gear

Talk about timing.. we got there 20 minutes prior to the next that it went off, we knew that because any building you go into has the posted time that is updated. There’s TONS of parking and the shops and lodges are beautiful and accommodating! They have done a great job to build it all around Old Faithful, so the geysers are on the heart of it and there’s plenty of seating to view it. Be sure to visit the Visitor Education Center...it’s a good one! Very interactive.

Suzanne Baltz Glasco

Waited all my life to finally get there in July. Got to see Ol Faithful go off twice. Loved the whole park with all the buffalo & elk. Will go again!!

Jeff Reynolds

The scenery was amazing! The park was well maintained and awesome! The 800 other tourist not so much. This is a rating of the tourist for the most part. Obviously it's one of the most beautiful places in the country. It's the human beings that are the problem. I get it I'm part of the problem just being there but your selfie is not that important. Certainly not important enough to ignore other people and clearly marked signs not to step on fragile geothermal structures. I am not opposed to technology at all but put your phone down, be a decent human being and enjoy where you are at while you are there. There are plenty of professional photos you can look at later. Tell your friends and family you were there and leave it at that.

Likhith Sriharsha

One of the best experiences from our trip to Yellowstone.. It should be the first thing you should visit when you have limited time. Highly recommended.

Ramon Quintero

Magical and breathtaking place! Nature and wildlife are amazing....we saw Buffalo, Elk, antelopes, Mule Deer, White-Tailed Deer

Chinivar Basu

Check the website or call the guys to know with the spring erupts. In and around yellow Stone food and drinks is a problem. So make sure you eat here when you get the chance. You can buy alcohol, smoothies, ice creams, good tshirts and souvenirs if needed. The lodges are pretty good too. I wouldn't say the best. But you need to book in advance. Overall a good place to spend the evening. Best time to visit is after 4 pm

Vivet Maragh

Somewhat disappointed. The big draw for old faithful is that the geyser goes off at least every 92 mins--which is actually not true. (We renamed it "somewhat faithful"). There are geysers that are not as regular, but are much more impressive to view.

Ashutosh Kr.

One of the rare earth phenomenon. Great place for pictures. Its really faithful.

Cheutney Ellerton

Great area, well set up for the amount of visitors they see here. Food places here are ok. They have lots of seating at several angles to view the geyser. I especially enjoyed the visitor center exhibit and ranger talk. A must see in Yellowstone.

Machhindra

Old faithful is a highly predictable geyser in Yellowstone National Park. It spouts at regular intervals. There is good seating arrangements to watch the geyser. Next predictions are displayed near ranger station. I was good experience watching this geyser.

Maxim Moroz

Cool place to check out while in the park. The ole geyser is becoming less and less faithful, I recommend coming 15 minutes before the predicted time. The walk around the other pools isn't anything special though the lodge is pretty cool to just relax at.

Melissa Gaydos

Old Faithful is absolutely amazing and there was so many people gathered around! Unfortunately we didn't stay another hour and 10 minutes to see it go off, but I have seen pictures of it and it's well worth the wait we just had an agenda and had to get out soon. There are a lot of great things in the gift Shop and that's probably a message they want a little collectible. They also have a little coffee shop that is wonderful and food..

Brandi Sniffer

Definitely worth seeing. The area had a nice trail and several small hot springs. The 1904 Inn was amazing. It was impressive that the estimated time for Old Faithful to gush was right on.

Lee Mowers

An iconic attraction. Allow a bunch of time if you come. The basin is full of awe inspiring thermal features. They are the Genesis of this national park.

Stacey Stouffer

Old Faithful is incredible AND yet not as neat as some of the other geysers. It's a geyser so it's inherently amazing because geysers are amazing. But! The nearby geysers will put on a show for you if you're patient. (Grand, Beehive, and Daisy all were spectacular). Make sure to read the signs and listen for some experts discussing the geyser activity. We met an incredible couple who have been coming for decades and shared with us some pearls of wisdom. (Waves on Grand!)

Silva

Cool and amazing place to visit in the states. Definitely would recommend to search up the estimate time of when the geyser will blow so you don't wait a long time. Trails are definite must too.

Jessie Mott

We asked the front desk, they said it’ll come at 16:16. We waited there and it really come at exactly the time. Very impressive, pictures from Internet can’t tell how you really feel when you actually stand here and watch it. The power of nature!

Sheila Cunningham

Excellent visitor center, restaurant, inn and ranger information. Well organized, clean Lots of seating to watch the geyser but get there early if you want a front row seat

Andrea Wu

Well, what's NOT to like about Old Faithful?! It's an amazing geyser just behind the visitor center, and there are benches to sit at to wait for the geyser to erupt. There are always a lot of people waiting around to see it, but I guess for good reason. It's really cool! Old Faithful is definitely a must-see in Yellowstone, as it's quite iconic for the national park. I would also recommend going to the nearby geysers and taking a look as those are amazing as well!

Joellen Sheerin

Very cool place. Loved sitting and chatting waiting for the geyser. Great time

Alyssa Seals

So beautiful. I've been to Old Faithful several times but never the lodge. What a treat!

John Bunt

Nice area and paths. Spent many hours there walking the loops and see the other geysers. The visitor center is great to learn about the area, some the the exhibits were broken. The Inn was really cool and had some food at the snack bar. We got there early because of the parking, it really filled up in the afternoon, people were driving around looking for parking. We drove a small RV and there were plenty of spots.

Michael and Heather Geddie

Very awe-inspiring thing to see for the first time. Get there early to get a good seat. The eruption is within 10 minutes or so of the posted time. It lasts for about 5 minutes. Getting a good seat helps as the crowd really fills in at closer to start time. Definitely need to brave the crowds and check this out. We arrived at the park very early to beat the majority of the crowd - would DEFINITELY do that again!

Kevin Burk

What a fantastic site. She went off on time 7-5-2019 5:15pm... Didn't care to much for the people who were sitting on the ledge in front of the benches though. Otherwise it made our vacation a great time. Kevin

Andy Ng

Old Faithful marks the starting point many geysers in the vacinity. Old Faithful is active several times each day, so don't despair if you miss an earlier eruption. Be sure to check the park's online eruption timetable in the visitor center and pace yourself. Take a stroll around the basin, and come back later in the day.

Curtis Lannom

If you are going to go to Yellowstone National Park you have to see Old Faithful. The area can get crowded but there is plenty of space for everyone. Check in the visitor's center (or app/website) for the predicted time that it will erupt. Definitely make sure that you set aside enough time to explore the entire geyser basin.

Denise Barlock

So many people want to see Old Faithful because it is faithful... but it's not the best feature in the area. When here to see Old Faithful, make sure to try to see an eruption somewhere else as well.

Harry Hurray

Definitely worth spending your time here.. Make sure you allot atleast 3 hours. If you plan as per eruption timing, you may save an hour and half. There is a website which shows expected times of eruption. It usually every 90 minutes.

Mireya R

Overall a wonderful experience. I believe everyone should see what nature has to offer. Lots of people and limited parking, carpool if possible. Food prices are outrageous in my opinion, so I'd pack a lunch. Plenty of places to pull off and eat with a nice view.

Leah Iverson

Not the most impressive geyser in the park but the most famous. I love seeing it before 8:30am and after 7pm when there are few people and nice natural light. And no it is not lit at night.

Meli Mtz

We decided to do 3 trails being in the summer make sure you wear light clothe, hat & cold water and don't forget the camera because some trails have phenomenal views that are worth the memories ❤️ the trial to grand prismatic spring was a great hike up the Mammoth trail was a loop that was pretty easy & old faithful was amazing great experience to be there with your loved ones ❤️♥️

Shrijit Srinivasan

Loved the place. It's quite a view. The geyser is always faithful to shoot up every 90 minutes. One can time it + or - 10 minutes. You have quite a wide space area to sit or stand and view it. Parking and amenities, guest house etc is close by.

Alexa A

It was hot but was able to listen to a park ranger talk about the geysers and the old faithful area which is awesome. Anytime you can listen to a park ranger do it! Knowledge is power.

K Darling

Loved Old Faithful and the park. Good gift shops but NO parking. We ended up parking in an illegal spot but no one bothered us or our car. I guess they are used to people parking illegally as its so busy. Good stop on our route and nice to see.

Tommy Diffin

This was my first time ever seeing a geyser, and I can say I'm not disappointed. After only a 20 minute wait we got to see this magnificent wonder. We were even lucky enough to get a seat in the shade. I would recommend this to anybody who is going to Yellowstone. And all of the nearby shops and hotels are pretty neat as well

Dasharatha Aduri

This is one of the must visit places if you are touring the yellowstone national park. Best thing about this place is the prediction on when the next geyser would take place. Based on it you can plan your wait time. I have been there on a cloudy evening and the view was splendid. Also, the place has a nice coffee place along with gift shops. It has multiple restrooms available. Try to get into the first row of seats for some pictures and nice view with no on obstructing you.

Kirk Clayton

Majestic geyser, but I liked the rest of the geyser basin even more. Bee hive erupted, there are other cool pools and stream vents, and morning glory was glorious. My favorite geyser was riverside. Seeing it erupt and then rain into the river is so cool. I tracked the regularity and cycles of the geysers, and it gave such a cool atmosphere of seeing if you can catch an eruption. A very awesome experience! (But, do make sure you wear sun screen)

J Buchbaum

It's a natural wonder of the world, so how could it not be rated highest! Seriously, very accessible and there are park rangers readily available to help you with info or directions... My wife hadn't been since she was a kid and my three little ones were blown away. The eruption is normally 2-5 minutes and went on for almost 8, which was very cool. The visitors center was beautiful and there is good availability of bathrooms and places to buy souvenirs. The family restroom was super clean and the baby station was at a perfect height. After the eruption, we went to the exhibit hall, which was very well done and informative. We drove the grand loop (about an extra 2 hours) and were blown away at every curve. Grand prismatic was beautiful and the painter pot and mud volcano were beyond words. Overall, a great way to spend the day and just wishing we had more time today to take it all in more thoroughly. We chose to support Yellowstone's education outreach with a donation. Knowing it is going to a great cause is satisfying. This is a bucket list item that no video or movie or stream could possibly do justice to... so worth the drive...

tina ahhee

What can I say that hasn't been said already? It is an experience to be there! Did you know that the water that comes out of old Faithful is at least 500 years old? Crazy! Truly a magnificent sight to behold. ❤️

Matthew Bailey

Great spot, we went at night and there was no one there! If you are staying in the park this is definitely the way to go. They post expected eruption time on the visitor center door through around 8pm. Then it will be 60 or 90 min to the next one. Just sitting under the stars waiting for it was great, on a clear night you can clearly see the Milky Way!

Sam Suh

The geyser spray is intense and beautiful however there is a massive overcrowding issue. Plan to get ahead of the crowd before the estimated eruption time to get a good view. Another option is hiking to observation point behind the geyser to watch it from up high. The only downside is many people were attempting to walk off the trails and there was a ridiculous amount of litter along the more obscure paths. It was ultimately a majestic experience but severely marred by the sheer disrespect people had for the geysers.

Chris George

Hard to rate something as Iconic as Old Faithful as less than five stars, but I guess my problem with Old Faithful is my problem with Yellowstone in general... there are so many great things in that area, I guess because people are sheep they all feel the need to all herd to the same places and things, Old Faithful being one of them.

Olga Gonzalez Latapi

It really lives up to its name. The lodge is so beautiful also. I reccomend having lunch there and watching the geyser from above. There is an app you can get to know when it will spew water. And stay on the other side of the steam so you don't miss the spectacle!

Dushyant Gupta

Amazing action of nature. I guess it's name includes faithful because no matter what happens but it will show its greatness in every interval of time. Truly faithful. If you are planning to visit you should atleast have 2-2.5 hrs to embrace it's beauty. There is very nice sitting arrangements around it. I would suggest you to visit in evening.

Susan Huckeby

Absolutely amazing national park! A must see for everyone! Loved watching Old Faithful and other nearby geysers erupt plus seeing hot springs and other geothermal features! Great place to visit for the whole family.

Jeff Winn

A well equipped area with the most selection of any gift shop we stopped at in the park. The area was quite crowded, although that makes sense seeing as Old Faithful is the most famous feature of Yellowstone. That being said, it was cool to see the geyser once but old faithful was something I can live without seeing on my next visit to the park.

Melissa Campbell

There is quite a bit to do around old faithful. There is a lodge, gift shop and cafeteria. Great clean bathrooms. There was also a store on the other side of the parking lot that we didn't get to. If you need a snack, icecream or full meal this is a great place to go. There are clean trails all around old faithful and it has plenty of viewing spots and places to sit to wait and watch.

Heather Chasten

Beautiful scenery. Went in the winter. The geyser against the snow backdrop was gorgeous. Got there a little early and enjoyed the scenery sitting on benches. Bucket list: check!

Greg Dill

One of the only places at Yellowstone where we were able to get a decent parking spot along with front row viewing. We waited about 35 minutes before Old Faithful blew. But, it was worth it. Very spectacular, but a bit overrated. We left kinda... meh.

Liesl Artherton

Always a goodie! We would stop by old faithful every year on the way to Grandma's house growing up, and it's so fun bringing my kids. We took the trail going up to the right of the geyser and watched it from the side. Less people, but we did get sprayed with the water from it which the kids thought was pretty cool. It's worth the walk up behind old faithful to see all the hot springs and other geysers close by. Don't forget to stop by the lodge and get some huckleberry icecream!

Charity Reisenauer

We made a fall trip into Yellowstone on October 7 and it was a perfect day. Not crowded and the fall colors where gorgeous. The best part was we saw more wildlife then we ever had seen in the past .

Barbara Lindner

Loved the geyser. Inside Yellowstone park. Crowd was huge and very spread out. Busiest time of the year and parking was a struggle. It was scheduled at 1125 AM and it did not disappoint. It was pretty.

Allen Todd

Old Faithful is a national treasure. There are many geysers, what makes Old Faithful special is its regularity. The park can predict within 20 minutes when the geyser will erupt. If you are visiting you'll want to get to the viewing area early as it will fill up quickly. If you are like us, we got there minutes before and there was nowhere for us on the viewing area, there some good areas near the trailhead.

Amy Rauert

The eruption wasn't as big as I expected but it was still a spectacular thing to see. There were several gift shops and some restaurants nearby so you had something to do if it wasn't about to erupt immediately. They also kept you up to date on the next predicted eruption time so you could plan accordingly.

Kellen Phillips

An absolutely historic and beautiful destination. A must stop for any Yellowstone trip. Plan for a packed parking lot and tourists everywhere but the show that this natural landmark creates is amazing.

Thomas

Old Faithful is great to witness. Can be viewed from outside or the Visitors Center or the Lodge. The Lodge has a cafeteria where you can get Bison meatloaf.

Prabhasa Kalkur

The most magnificent geyser in the United States. One of the few geysers in the world with predicted eruptions. It lasts for about 3-3.5 minutes, and peaks at the beginning. You can check the predictions at the visitor center. Meanwhile, you can visit the other geysers around the place.

Joel Ripke

DON'T TOUCH THE PRETTY WATER and STAY ON THE TRAILS. Old Faithful was cool, but the trails and boardwalks were even better. Give yourself plenty of time to explore.

Heather Renee

What can I say that hasn't been said a thousand times? Well, first off, it can be HOT. Take a hat and sunscreen and maybe a cushion. Be prepared for crowds. Listen to the Ranger talks, they're fascinating. Get a spot early and enjoy!

Texans Outdoors

It’s Old Faithfull. How can you not give it five stars. It’s an American icon. I will say that parking is crazy. And even though most park visitors are courteous, some folks just come from bad upbringing. So be patient.

Thomas Chilcott

It's like a machine! My wife and I had talked about getting some night time shots of this geyser for a few years, and this year we set out to get our shot. I'd love to take credit for our timing, but really it's all Old Faithful. Since it was discovered, Old Faithful has erupted more consistently (in frequency) than any other geyser in the world - hence the name. And on our last visit, we were delighted to watch (and photograph) a beautiful, tall (though somewhat brief) eruption, almost exactly at the stroke of Midnight. A light breeze added a lovely effect to the handful of "keepers" that we were able to capture with a not-too-long exposure on our camera. While you may not be visiting Yellowstone for night photography, it's still nice to know that sites such as Old Faithful can be counted on to deliver their awe-inspiring spectacles routinely enough that it doesn't require a high degree of luck to experience them. If you're visiting Yellowstone, this is definitely a site worth stopping to see.

Sherilyn Brown

The learning center was fun and it was a great experience to see Old Faithful spurt. It was within 2 minutes of the estimated time. It was crowded and there wasn't much seating, so we stood waiting in the sun for about 20 minutes.

John Skees

Surprisingly crowded, even in cold weather. Get there 30 minutes before expected eruption to get a good seat. Nice kids area in the visitor education center nearby.

Maggie J

This was the best thing I have ever seen in my life. It is amazing. It’s amazing what God has made and the true wonder this is. I saw the eruption happen I recorded it but am not available to post it yet but will do. Sunday the predictions we got was off a little. Was a lot of people and was a free day for entry. The area has bench’s to sit and wait. Was worth the wait despite the off predictions. They have programs which are very educational and informative. I would definitely recommend going there to see it. One thing I have to say the parking is a problem so do go early and no hurry there is a lot of geysers to see. I have a video of the eruption but not able to post it.

Farouk Mohammed

Old faithful explodes every 95 minutes and it's wonderful to watch its beauty. It usually has a large audience to view this phenomenon. A must watch if you're in Yellowstone.

Michael Vega

Pretty cool , took a lot longer blow than they predicted. More like 30 minutes away in stead of +- 10. Still it was cool to see. Get there early to get a good seat

Pioneer Valley

Best to visit in June or September. The earlier or later in the year the better. Because the crowds are crazy in July and August. The parking in the high season and at peak times is impossible. Arrive early to get a seat. Dont forget your camera. It is a fairly long walk from the far parking lots to the geyser if you are older, have small children, or disabled. The food at the restaurants is pricey, but not crazily so.

Sara Lewis

Absolutely amazing to watch Old Faithful go off even the kiddos got excited. Only downside is everybody in the world goes there at the same time. They have gorgeous hotels and cabins to stay in. Easy handicap accessible boardwalks so nobody else to miss out. They even have two huge gift shops returns a different things. The kids and I enjoy the penny stretcher I every spot. Again wonderful way to be able to teach your children in a fun exciting Manor that they really do engaging.

Don Dobrenski

Quite reliable, living up to its name. Also, there are lots more smaller geysers and hot water features to walk about (on restricted paths!) nearby.

Tara Chabis

Visiting Old Faithful is always a wonderous sight! Not only do you see the famous and somewhat regular geyser, but you can walk a ways down the boardwalk to view all the mini geysers and colorful pools and learn about Yellowstone's vast ecosystems. The walk down to Morning Glory pool takes at least half an hour, more if you're stopping to view each site, but it is well worth the walk.

Yutthapong Wichitpanyarak

The best spot to watch geyser eruption as it is the most reliable prediction spot. We went about 5 mins before predicted time, all seats were occupied by lots of people but it is okay to stand. A must visit spot for Yellowstone national park.

Wendy McGowan

Another one off the bucket list! We appreciated the beauty and majesty of the place. Staff were courteous and helpful. Go!!

Nancy Haworth

Seeing this geyser erupt is very impressive! The visitor center has a sign estimating when the next eruption will take place, which is very helpful. The exhibit hall and movie inside the visitor center were very educational. Don't miss this when you're visiting Yellowstone!

Sherri Jorge

Go inside the visitor center to get the estimated time the geyser will erupt. You will be amazed at how high it shoots up. Its definitely worth taking video and photos. Glad to say I've been here to see such a breathtaking sight!

Jeff D

It was great but I think it's a little overrated all those people every hour watching water spew out of a hole in the ground. I mean I get it, I understand the science and I love it it's just a little funny. Great buildings lots of facilities restaurants cafeterias are great at least two gift shops that I know of just in this area.

Jacob T. Rex

Old Faithful, it's not the biggest geyser, nor is it the most regular. But it is the biggest most regular geyser. And for that we thank it. The crowds gathered around the great geyser, offering gifts, and sacrifices. They held out their hands praying for a blessing from the holy water it spews. They held out their hands hoping for a droplet of what they knew would save them of their woes. I was merely an observer. Watching as they offered things such as their phones and even children to the great, hot hole. If it were not for the great sages of the park, they would have thrust themselves into the hole, to be dissolved and taken to Valhalla. Cool place. Lots of sulphur. Really crowded. 7/10.

J Johnson

Sometimes it spouts and sometimes it's just a gurgle but so much is going on all around the area wait another hour and you'll get another chance! So many good walking paths and lots to see. This time Old Faithful was Faithful and really gave a great show. Enjoy

Richard Scott

Easy to get to and very impressive. The easy part is because it is September. Still a busy place but no problems parking or getting to the site.

Ron Dowdell

Spectacular eruptions. Lots of seating on circular boardwalk shows best viewing areas. We chose area about 90 degrees to sun with tree covered hill as background, which delivered nice photos. The visitor center calculates when the eruptions will occur but be 10 minutes early to avoid missing it. About an hour between eruptions when we were there. Buffet in the lodge was excellent.

Doug Jodts

You can get fairly close to get a good picture/video when the crowd gathers. Goes off frequently enough that if you happened to just miss it you can just grab lunch there and catch the next one. Or watch it, eat lunch, then watch it again.

Cindi Lockhart

A definite bucket list place to visit. There is so much to see and can be done in three or four days. If you have small children I suggest staying in the park centrally located. The Canyon Inn or at Old Faithfull are both good locations. The canyon area is the most central. Basically the park has a figure eight drive around the park. The top of the eight is smaller but has many beautiful sights with off shoots like Lamar Valley to see buffalo and other wildlife. We stayed about 30 minutes north of the park and drove down on Tuesday and Thursday. They were very long days, 10-12 hours each day, but we have no children, so it was our choice to have the opposite days to check out the Chico Hot Springs area. Great trip!!!

Marci Shindel

Lots of areas to walk around, lots of other cool geysers, springs, pools, vents and the like, all within walking distance. All very cool.

Ryan Wilson

It's Old Faithful! Remember it's open 24/7... I like to get there super early in the day. The Sunrise is great and there are no crowds. Much nicer when it's a casual, relaxing experience.
