For living in Thermopolis for 16 years, I ventured out with my Mavic 2 Pro and took awesome photos from the air!

Make sure to get a pamphlet at the trailhead. It explains a lot about the petroglyphs. The trail takes about 20 min to complete; it's about a quarter mile long or less. There is a river on the other side of the trail, but I didn't find a trail down to it, and I didn't want to blaze one.

A good hike, not long but it is a little precarious. Take your camera. Native art is out in the open for you to marvel at.

Amazing historic site with petrographs dating back 11,000 years. But some people had added graffiti taking away from the significance of these rock drawings.

Free! Kid/grandparent friendily, although not "handicap acessible" grandma with two bad knees made the walking trail pretty easily. Nice visitors center ran by good hearted volenteers. Fun to speculate

Richard Hill

Although about 35 miles from Thermopolis, Legend Rock is well worth a visit. The oldest glyph is about 11,000 years old and when you think of the effort to 'carve' each one...

If you are interested in petroglyphs, take the time to drive to this isolated spot and imagine traveling back in time to when these petroglyphs were made. There are no facilities nearby. Bring water. There is a gate that may or may not be padlocked, so call the Thermopolis Hot Springs State Park front desk to inquire. There is a short hike from the parking lot to the path that will allow you to get quite close to the hundreds of images on the rock faces of a cliff running alongside the creek. The gravel road is maintained and small signs will direct you to Legend Rock.

For me, this was a bucket list place. I have wanted to see petroglyphs for as long as I can remember, and there are some here just outside of Thermopolis. Word of advice, don't bother the nesting ravens.

Amy McKoon

You can drive an RV or truck with trailer here. Other reviews didn't say whether or not it was possible, so we wanted to clarify for those visiting the area that way. Because of other reviews about having a hard time finding it, we did not follow google maps and instead followed the signs from highway 120. It is pretty well marked and we had no issues finding it. This place is awesome. The visitor center is small, clean, and very informative. Make sure to get a map with the detail of the markers. My kids 9, 6, & 3 all had a great time on the little hike. This should be a must see if you are in the area or even going in, around, or near Cody or Casper. Take highway 120. You won't regret it.

Interesting artifacts. Worth the drive to visit.

Kimberly Herring

It was really cool to see. Just remember that it's a good drive out. Enjoy the scenery on the way.

Joseph Ritter

We saw this on Ancient Aliens and we had to see it in person, it was very cool, we drove out to the middle of nowhere, it’s hard to believe ancient people lived out there because there is nothing for miles. By the way, I also saw a rattlesnake so be very careful.

Rose and Mike Farmer

Good petroglyphs in a rather remote place. Gravel road there is in good condition. Be careful. Treat this place right. Do not touch the art!

Grant DeRocher

Fun walk.

Andy Montana

What an exciting place to visit a piece of ancient history alive right before your eyes, it's very sad that it was vandalized over the decades however the fact that it is under surveillance now and has a beautiful little Information Station I think is great.

Robert S

Pick up the sheet of paper describing the petroglyphs. Easy to view, and brochure adds a lot to the experience

Matt Abbott

very, very interesting

Brenda Czarnecki

Nice walk with really cool Native American Petroglyphs! It's very quiet and secluded. Wear appropriate footwear as the area does have rattlesnakes.

Shelly Downham

Very cool and worth the drive to literally the middle of nowhere

Ellie B

Although I tend to find petroglyphs pretty creepy looking most of the time, this was a really enjoyable visit! The history of the petroglyphs is so cool, and there are 360-degree views, including a little bit of the Rockies! Good for a short walk and to learn a bit about our shared human history!

D Manley

Nice path with informative signs to help you understand what you're look at.

Close up views of petroglyphs believed to be from 9,000 years ago to the recent past.

Joshua Weickum

One of my favorite places to go, absolutely RICH with Dinwoody and the like petroglyphs. Exquisite!

Fran Scranton

Indian rock art as old as 9000 years old to 250 years old. Anthromphd, zoomorphs, and geometric designs are represented. Paleo Indian artists and shamans have left a story on the cliff faces. Sheepeater Indian, crow, and Cheyenne are represented. Visit in early morning or late afternoon for best time to visit.
