REVIEWS OF Devil's Lake State Park IN Wisconsin

Beth Ostrowski

Great place, will definitely be back again. Wish the pop-up sites were just a tad bigger and had fire rings vs boxes but we found the area lovely and well kept. Staff does a great job of keeping the bathrooms clean which is a plus!

William Sheehan, III

The hike to the top of the bluffs can be strenuous, but the reward when you reach the top is a breathtaking view of the entire lake. We spent time on both the North shore and South shore, and the South is definitely quieter, but not by much. I recommend going early in the day to hike and using the afternoon to swim or paddle. The food at the concession stand is reasonably priced and pretty tasty. Grab a post card in the gift shop!

Eric Whetzel

Great park for challenging hikes. In addition to the Devil's Doorway, we always do the West Bluff as well, especially the Tumbled Rocks trail next to the lake - kids love climbing the giant boulders. It looks scary from the ground, but mostly pretty safe since you can never fall very far. Great way to freak out the grandparents

Prerna Pandey

A must go for hikers.. Devils gate and balanced rock hike makes it really worth. Campgrounds are also nice and clean.

Nathaniel Hunter

Beautiful views! Our second time and it was a blast. We camped this time and the facilities are good! The shower facilities are only one per camp ground with pit toilets scattered more numerous. We really liked our spot (313) in the ice age campground. It had just enough shade, private, and was close to the showers. We will be back for sure!

Shalini khare

Beautiful place and lake. You can do hiking, camping, fishing, boating, swimming, kayaking paddle boarding....it's well maintained natural paradise. Lake water is warm too.. Overall it's a fun place to relax and enjoy

Wendy Walker

Beautiful park. Parking signage needs improvement. Long lines, signage was small need to work on the flow. Some to direct on holiday weekends so people actually take turns

michael campbell

This is my favorite place in the world I believe! I could live in this area and may some day! Absolutely one of the most beautiful places east of the Rockies! Very clean lake with beautiful beaches, unbelievable miles of hiking, miles and miles of beautiful roads in and surrounding the Devil's Lake Area to bike on, great wooded campsites, and drop dead gorgeous scenery everywhere you look!

Daniel Graves

Very nice campground with great amenities! And Devil's lake Park is a great time. It has a beach, really fun trails to hike with amazing views, nice gift shop, and my personal favorite an ice cream stand

boston Daino

Devil's lake is a beautiful, picturesque location. Steep stone bluffs, thick woods, and a beautiful lake combine to offer a unique experience you have to try once. If you plan to come more than once, buy the year pass instead of the daily pass. after a few visits you've already saved money, and don't bother with the bathrooms at the edge of the woods. They're bug infested, feces covered holes. The main building near the water has suitable facilities.

Brendan Norton

Beautiful place. Great hiking and swimming. A really good time in the summer. Great colors and views in the fall

Sean O'Connor

Beautiful park, some great hiking trails. Nice camping sites with access to fully functional bathrooms (not just pit toilets) and showers.

Lukasz Graniczek

Great park north of Madison, Wisconsin. Great place to come if you love hiking or just want to come here with family and have a picnic by the lake! There is a trail around the whole lake you take or you can opt to hike! One of the most popular places is the Balanced rock and Devil’s doorway! Once you see those two, hike back towards the South shore of the lake on the East Bluff trail where you will also come across Elephant Rock! I love this place and come back every summer! It is $16 for non-Wisconsin residents, enjoy!

Nell E

Always a fun place to come. You can go hiking, kayaking, swimming, running, and climbing. Lots of parking. Snack shacks on both sides of the lake. Beautiful photo spots. Awe inspiring rock formations.

Meghan Bohland

Very fun place. Its very rocky so hiking is NOT for beginners. Trails are poorly marked so hard to keep track of where you at on the map but you won't fet lost if you stay on the very visible trails. The maps on the trails are very worn to hard to tell where you are. Some trails are paved some are not. Beautiful views!!! The lake is amazing. Beach is very busy, but fun.

Chris Benning

Beautiful landscape and camp grounds are very nice. I stayed in the Ice Age campground at 451. I was really impressed at the setup at the campsites, and the surroundings were gorgeous. I didn't get to hike, as I was swimming in a race in the lake that weekend, but the water was wonderful!

Denise Brabec

This place is true Wisconsin awesomeness. Hiking is amazing. Stayed in Ice Age Campground. Some very wooded and private sites. Must see if u like to hike.

Chih-Yu Tung

If you want to walk the trail on the east shore of lake, it is safer go from the south to the north than contrary way. Renting the boat from South cannot return it at North. Besides, needs to returning the boat on time, I would suggest being conservative and returning back to the boat rental places at least 10 minutes ahead. Because they round minute into hour, like few minutes late to return the boat in one hour is counted as two hours.

Natalie S

ALWAYS LOVE HIKING HERE!!! Make a picnic and just GO! It's a great outdoor place and hopefully I can go back again one of these days when I'm off work. Definitely would recommend it!!!

Patrick Gilligan

An other world, the palisades and rock formations are unique for the midwest. The public beach is very family friendly and the campground store has cold beer.

Carrie Needham

Lovely!! Great trails, good work out! The Potholes trail coming down from the East Bluff Trail was the perfect way to end a3.5 hour hike with the kids! Then we let the kids play at the south beach while the dads went and grabbed the cars from the north side! We didn't some time talking with Sue, the naturalist, at the nature center. So knowledgeable and such a lovely person. We are already planning another camping trip there!

Filza Naim

Always a great time here. The only thing I don't like about here is that the bathrooms are always dirty and busy... Wish they would do something about the dirty bathroom and venting them properly!!

Andrew Bailey

The beauty and tranquility is almost otherworldly. Your first visit will likely be the first of many. Highly recommended by all the locals. Main entrance takes you to the lake's North shore, but make sure to seek out the south shore as well. If you arrive early in the morning in the fall you will never forget the experience of having the whole park almost entirely to yourself.

Matt No

Devil's lake is a place for natural beauty and great hiking and swimming spots. The only set back is the parking and dealing with the line of cars to get into the park. If they could come up with a better entrance it would be 5 stars all the way

Liz & Jesse Brockman

What a gorgeous park. Great hiking and beach. The campground was very nice, but lots of hills. The showers in the campground could use some work, but overall, our visit here was fantastic.

Dana Dentice

Every time I come home to Wisconsin I make sure to visit this rejuvenating jem of the state! Less crowded on South shore and during week in summer. It's my fav spot to trout fish, with many good memories of peaceful time on the water and delicious fish to take home for dinner.

David Bahr

Devil's lake is the golden standard for Wisconsin state parks. Several different styles of camping areas. From shaded wooded sites to tall grassy prairieland. Great hiking and biking trails which showcase the unique landscape. The beach is quite large and well maintained. They offer water pontoon, kayaks, and canoe rentals. Also I recommend snorkeling, the shoreline has several rock faces which make for a unique experience

Dale Falconer

East bluff trail is great. Saw balanced rock and Devils doorway. Awesome hike. Rented kayaks for 2 hours. Very peaceful out there.

Kyle Mjelde

There's a reason it's the most visited park in Wisconsin. It's beautiful throughout. Amazing hiking, soft sandy beach on the North shore, and don't forget the nature center! If you have a minute read the back story of how this geological wonder came to be!

Randy Hall

It's a beautiful place, but this review is based on my personal experience. We went to Devil's Lake recently as part of a family vacation with our older 3 adult kids and two younger foster kids (5 and 7). One of the older kids said we had to hike the "trails" here as we were up in the Dells....I (mistakenly) didn't ask any questions and just went along for the ride. Trial hike right? No big deal. As we hiked the face of what ended up being a cliff, the trail got more treacherous, slippery, narrow and crowded the higher we got. The trek down was worse. I personally saw a guy slip and almost go over. I couldn't believe that there were not more warnings regarding the age appropriateness of their trails. Going back to their website later, they do give a level of Easy/Medium/Hard, but man, it would be nice to see more clear warnings to the effect of "NOT FOR YOUNG KIDS" in addition to similar signage in the park. Oh yeah, and we got two parking tickets. Yippee.

Meggin Papke

A Wisconsin state park gem! Two picnic areas with lots of amenities, several hiking options with some of the best topography in the state and a crystal clear beautiful recreational like ideal for kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing. It really has something for everyone!

David Harrison

I have lived in the area my whole life and I still enjoy going to Devils lake. It is a perfect spot for hiking trails, camping, fishing, swimming, and other water spots. They rent boats, kayaks, paddle boats and boards and canoes. It does get very crowded on the weekends, but still very enjoyable. Highly recommend to any nature enthusiast. They also have grilles if you just want to enjoy a picnic. Bring your own charcoal. If you are coming to hike you will not be disappointed. There are miles of hiking trails "many are pet friendly" that you can enjoy. There are rattle snakes in the baraboo bluff areas so always respect them and watch your step...

Diego Garcia

Really good lake to go swim, to go fishing, and to even kayak in! It was really nice since the water is warm, so the children won't get cold, they'll just want to keep on swimming. It has a nearby shop where they sell stickers, accessories, ice cream and food.

Michael Sutor

Devil's lake and the surrounding area is one of the most beautiful places to go in Wisconsin. As of early June 2019 the South shore Beach is flooded to the point where there is little to no sand before the water line; however, there is still a lot of space to lay out on the grass. The East bluff Trail has sound great outlooks viewing the lake and surrounding mountain/hills.

Christopher Coder

This place is amazing. I grew up in the town next to it, but I still live going. Great hiking trails, clean beaches and crystal clear water. Great place to fish, kayak and paddle board because it's electric motors only.

Ben O'Leary

It was my wife's 1st time at Devil's Lake & she totally enjoyed it. It was great to see the diversity of ethnicity their on our day of Independence. Yes, we all can get along. We shared stories & food. A very enjoyable time! The only thing that was a downfall was when we went rock climbing & jumping, we saw trash in some of the crevices of the rocks. We could only clean so much. I hope others will do the same to take care of our beautiful State Parks.

Akash Kumar

One of the best places in Wisconsin, located around 200 miles from Chicago. It's an awesome place for camping and hiking. The lake is surrounded by hilly forest and the trek offers one of the most stunning view. Some points of interest are located on steep places but the view is worth the extra effort.

Pramod Gupta

A place for hiking, rock climbing and bouldering unlike any other in the midwest region. Lots of scenic trails with difficulty level easy to challenging. You see different age groups while hiking, young kids, youth groups and pets along the way. Cliffs are unprotected and can be dangerous for careless hikers. Climbing up the boulders is easier than climbing down. No motor boat allowed in water. Beaches are clean and swim friendly. Paddle boat and other rentals available. Decent souvenir and concession shop. Smelly bathroom for changing after swim. No trashcans along the trail and limited recycling option. Still these negatives are not enough to take a star away for this hidden jewel in otherwise flat great plains.

Debrah Gunderson

What's not to love about Devil's Lake State Park - Wisco's most popular park. Beautiful crystal clear glacier lake surrounded by rocky cliffs, with two beaches at either end. The North side offers a full-service canteen with some pretty darn tasty cheese curds and other grill faves. The historic building used to host dances - you can almost close your eyes and pictures coupled waltzing around the dance floor. Stay for day - rent a canoe or kayak, soak up rhe rays on the beach and then head out for an invigorating hike to Devil's Doorway or Balanced Rock on the west side. Or reserve a camp spot for the weekend (if your lucky) and stay for more fun. The best of Wisco!

Reggie Cowden

We had a great hike! The first incline got our hearts pumping and the view of the lake was amazing. We could have been anywhere in the world. Devil's staircase was harder than we expected, but so cool when we got to the top. This hike was so much fun..... beautiful scenery... great exercise... and there wasn't a lot of people there at the time we were. Go check it out. It's so worth it.

Nicole Wilson

Absolutely gorgeous lake. Very clean, easy to get around and great hiking trails with lovely views of the whole park. I highly recommend visiting.

Ben Joseph

Breathtaking views. Amazing walk. Great exercise. I would hold up on taking the kids if you plan on going out on the ledges.

Richard Puechner

Devils Lake is a wonderful place to spend a day, a weekend or week. Great hiking and very nice beaches for swimming and other water sports. Kayak's, Paddle Boards and other paddle powered boats are available to rent by the hour. Scenery is beautiful and very relaxing. This is a place where you can reconnect with nature.

Hali Schatz

It's a bit touristy especially at the beaches but this park is beautiful. Offering wonderful day hikes for all fitness levels and excellent swimming and paddling opportunities.

Ouseph Kattooran

Love the hike up hill to the balanced rock. The view from there feels out of this world. The trail itself is a medium challenge. However, probably not for people with kids or if you are pregnant.

Miguel Galeana

A place very interesting, many things to do. Hiking trails are awesome, water lake clean, flushable toilets, hot water showers. If I could give it 10 stars it earned.

Felipe Garcia Jr.

The most scenic and challenging (in the sense of trails) of all the state parks. The more scenic parts are accessible through the more challenging trails.

Marianne Stone

Do beautiful. Worth every minute of drive to get here. Trails can be crowded so start early in day to avoid the crowds.

Curtis Achterhof

Absolutely love this place. Far and away some of the best hiking with the greatest views to be found for MANY miles around. Lots of good memories here and hopes for more in the future.

Michael Ringold

Beautiful lake and views from the trails. The bluff trail, for those that might have a hard time with a steep path, is a lot more accessible when started from the north. The path on to it from the south is pretty steep. Just one star off for being so darned busy, and we ran in to some not so courteous teens.

Steve H

Just a fantastic park in every aspect. Well kept up, respectful staff, clean trails, and the freedom to go wherever you want. We went for an event held at one of The pavilions, which was fine but it was a relief to meander around the park.

Dayle Varuska

Nice parks variety of hiking trails. Balance rock trail is strenuous due to the amount of steps but these also make it accessible without the need to go bouldering.

Jess G

Been going here since I could walk... Now we pass along this tradition like our parents did for us. Gotta respect this sacred area... (BTW the day pass costs more here... Get one at mirror lake first)

Johnny Z

Still my Favorite State Park in Wisconsin. More walking trails than you could conquer in any Day, or Two for that matter. All of which wind in, and out of Beautiful Rock Ledges, Formations, and cliff edge views. Two Trails take you directly high above the Lake on either side, presenting breathtaking Panoramic Views, as well as excellent Photo Opportunities. Down lake side, you have Two Nice sand Beaches on either End, both with Concessions, and Gift shops. The concessionaires offer a variety of Food and Ice cream, and all the gifts sold are Unique, and Charming. Some nice decorative pieces available for the home. You can Also Camp on Both North and South Shores, and is a Favorite Camping Destination for my Family of 5. They sell Firewood on site, as well as camping supplies. Most sites are well wooded, and offer plenty of shade and a feeling of seclusion. They have a Nature Center on North shore that is great for younger kids eager to learn and explore the area around the lake, and offer activites to take with, and do with the family while camping. Also they have Live Music at North shore practically every week during the Summer Season. All in all, what's NOT to love about Devils Lake?

Antony Jose

The place is a good trip and great hike. Definitely stretch cause it's no joke. Don't miss the devil's doorway like I did. There's a sticker you need to purchase which can be one day or annual. And the place gets filled up fast so be an early bird.

Liv3 Kind

Beautiful vistas when you make it to the top of the trail. Go early or late to avoid the crowds, especially this time of year on 'field trip season'. Water is high, so no beach left. Great day trip! You will want to come back to explore more!

Debbie Winchel

I thought it was perfect. Rest rooms close and clean. Lots of room between campers

Joe Coenen

Beautiful!!! Place always amazes. From the blue water to high cliffs!! Getting ready for people though, there is people everywhere!! Place is packed! If you want to do some exploring I suggest you get there early! If you can get a camp site it's worth it! Wonderful place the hiking trails are not for the faint at heart though they will demand that you do some hard climbing!! Great place!

atnt1996

Awesome park! You can hike, kayak, paddle board, swim, fish, camp, and so much more. You need to be safe while on the trails! We took our family for the day and enjoyed it very much. It was busy, but not so busy that we couldn’t enjoy ourselves.

Jorgen That One Dude

Such an amazing place. It truly shows off the beauty Wisconsin has to truly offer. TONS of hiking trails, bike trails, and you even swim in Devil's Lake! Such history in one place as well. Very ancient rock formations from millions of years of change. 10 out of 10. Can't wait to return.

Tim Gasser

Just an amazing natural wonder. Miles and miles of hiking trails (some are easy, some will make your legs burn). 360 acre lake is great for fishing and swimming. Canoes, kayaks and paddleboats are available to rent on both north and south shores. Or bring your own. Also has camp sites for rent. Book well ahead of time though, because they fill up up to a year in advance.

Kristopher Cupery

Love this place. Was a treasure spot in high school. Now for me, the place I started a relationship with the love of my life. Wisconsin’s beautiful Gem.

Bekka Fahley

A busy, but well maintained park with many areas to swim. Swimmers itch is known to be in the water but, I've been going with my dog for months and I have yet to get it. If you like hiking and immersing yourself in nature this is a good place!

Bob Penzkover

A very special natural phenomenon. Interesting and challenging trails. Fishing, kayaking, camping, picnicking. Best state park in the Midwest. But too crowded on holidays.

Zach Riley-Glassman

Went to the beach on a Monday, 1-5PM. Nice water access, good seating under shade, trees for hammocks, available grills. I was a little frustrated at seeing dogs on the beach all afternoon (7-10?), after passing two no dog/pet signs to reach the beach. A second frustration was only seeing a ranger('s truck) on the way out, of course people will ignore signs if they're not being enforced.

Tommy Reynolds

Lake looked extremely clean. There is 2 ways to get in to the park, the north and south shores. And a bunch of hike trails that next time I will explore.

Ryan Rose

Hiking and swimming.. pretty much epic. Not one level site in the quartzite park though. Bring some stilts. Possible best park in Wisconsin.

Robert Migdal

I am here for the fourth time. Amazing views . A well-kept place is still improving. I recommend a short trip. From Chicago 2.40 hours.

Karina Perea

It is an amazing place.where you can relax by walking through the rocks or the trails I'll definitely will go back again and again lots of amazing things to do and fun for the kids

Madi Bezik

Always a summer tradition for my family and I. Swimming, barbecuing, hiking, and relaxing. Holiday weekends are super busy but even in the bustle of people, I can always find solitude inside this beautiful park. If you've never been, you have got to visit Devils Lake.

Tina Pasciak

Natures true beauty! There are many levels of walking trails. The bottom trail along the lake is easy going but a stroller or wheelchair will not be able to go on it as it is narrow in places. The upper trail is more of a challenge. They have water rentals (non motorized) great place to learn to paddleboard. Food seating, hall rentals and excellent views.

Deb Fjeld

Fabulous place to hike. The park is busy, and best visited during the week to even find parking. Campsites were large and wooded. The lake was beautiful.

Schnitzel Buns

This is one of Wisconsin's finest campgrounds ever! It has the Northern Lights Campground, The Quartzite Campground, and the Ice Age Campground. Tons of places to camp! Electricity available in some spots. You can reserve sun or shady spots. The lake has both North and South shore beaches and concessions with a gift shop. There is a doggy dipping area too! There is the concession/gift shop/store at the beach and one at the Ice Age Store. Literally, everything you would bring camping, or forget to bring are here! Never a need to worry. They have you covered! Several trails. You can go on the bluffs and see the elephant rock formation. There is the famous Balanced Rock above hiking a ton of boulder steps. The famous Devil's Doorway rock formation exists close and the Pothole trail. The famous tree at the Northern Lights Campground is also here! You can not possibly see and do everything in a month! Tons of bathrooms and showers. They do need a lot more electrical spots and handicapped parking areas due to the popularity and high volume of visitors. If you're looking for the perfect place to camp, hike, swim, relax in WI, this is it!

Sir Tuesday

Used to come here every summer growing up. Now I go with friends. Have always loved Devil’s Lake!

Bill Gonigam

Great park to camp at! Went here a few years ago with some friends. The lake is huge and deep which is perfect for swimming. The hill sides are great for climbing and hiking and the forests are full of amazing views and greenery. The camp sites were a little small and pretty close together since there are a ton of people always going to the park but don't let that dissuade you from going. This place is a must visit location for camping or even a day trip in Wisconsin.

Dmitry Zinger

It is an excellent park! It has a gorgeous scenery, and a lot of trails to explore. The only downside is that it does get very busy on weekends, and parking is often an issue.

Krzysztof Chrapusta

Great park! Pet friendly, beautiful trails. It has two beaches and one for your dog too! Water in the lake is crystal clear. Lot of fish. Don't forget Your kayak or boat with electric motor.

Kenia Ortiz

I'm not a very outdoorsy person but i love coming here every once in a while. This time i went to the dog part of the lake and saw my doggy swim for the first time. The park is amazing for a nice family day!

Ajit Kumar

The place is awesome. Immense scenic beauty with trekking options. Don’t forget to explore south shore which is far from north shore. Trekking to top is refreshing and good pace to explore nature at his best. Parking is ample and don’t park your car in road to avoid fine.

meggan lyons

We absolutely love it here! It was a perfect day with perfect weather. Everyone is wore out from swimming and the later hiking! The park is always so clean and kept very nice. It's so fun to be able to bring the dog too! The people are always so friendly! We travel from Illinois here because it's so much better than our state parks!

Payal Sanghani

This is a beautiful state park. The hikes are challenging but gorgeous. Can't wait to come back here to try rock climbing!

itai muchaps

Book about a year in advance because it gets quickly booked. Overall, the place is awesome and would recommend if you can buy your own kayaks would be better than renting cause they tend to get pricey the longer you stay on the water. Otherwise this is a great place to go and relax camping ir for the day.

Benjapol Piyawanichpong

A nice park with several geographical feature and feeling of mountain without going too far out of Madison area. Great challenging hike and climbing while still not too difficult. Will come back again.

Roshan Mendes

Awesome hiking trails. Awesome lake for canoeing and kayaking. Awesome place to camp. Good store for daily supplies and ice.

Erin Furrer

Beautiful location but a bit pricey for a short day trip. If it were nearby and you had a year pass it would be more economical.

Lisa McCabe

Too busy for my taste... the poor wildlife! But it really is beautiful. The campground is a rather poor example of state park camp grounds in Wisconsin. Very sunny open and grassy instead of woodsy sites.

Tony Rodi

Camp grounds are nice. Facilities are acceptable. No cold showers. Wish there was water hook up for camper. We forgot to fill tank before setting up. Stayed at quartzite location.

Thomas McGuire

Fond memories from summer of '73. Road trip with 4 friends from L.I. heading west. Second planned stop along the way, highly recommended by friends. Was not disappointed. Loved Wisconsin.

Naomi Dassow

Wonderful park. Great walking trails. Great place to go in fall too.

Christopher McAllester

A great place to hike, swim, fish, or rock climb. Swimming in spring or early summer is risky, as swimmer's itch parasites are common then. The season pass for parking is worth it if you intend to go multiple times. The parking lots full up quickly on good weekends, though the southern lots have overflow space - get there early! There are boat rentals, food, and bathrooms at both the southern and northern shores.

Aaron Barbee

We spent quite a few hours here, which I suggest since you do have to pay to get in ($16 for non residents). Tons of hiking trails of various surfaces and degrees of difficulty. We even found a short one (2.5 miles) to ride our bikes. We didn't swim or get out on the lake but those are options as well. Get out and have some fun!

Damon Ward

Stunning location with great hiking trails that are rewarded with amazing views. They have all the facilities you'll need such as toilets, gift shop, food and beverage stalls and in the picnic areas they also have builtin BBQ areas. You can paddle in the lake or hire a kayak. Absolutely worth a visit. Only feedback I can say is there doesn't seem to be any litter bins anywhere, even in the picnic areas, so make sure you bring something you can put your litter in

Hannah Lucas

Great views and great hikes. Too crowded during weekends and holidays... But still Ann amazing place

Brennan Schmidt

A beautiful state park for hiking, bouldering, and swimming. There's boat rentals and grills accessible for cooking out. Amazing views of the countryside from the top of the bluffs

Chad mcclean

This is the best hiking spot in Wisconsin!. So many different areas to go you feel really connected to nature. Kayaking, rock climbing, fishing you name it. The beach is also very nice the water so crisp and clear!

Nilesh Boddapati

Devils Lake State Park is an amazing park to hike. The park had a lot of attractions make sure you do the homework on which track you’d wanna take to cover most of the attractions. The lake also has kayak and other water sports if you’re interested. I would definitely recommend the park if your in and around the area

Claire Sammons

trails are so beautiful! definitely recommend devils doorway trail! guess what the rocks are pink and purple bet you weren’t expecting that!! it’s a must do in baraboooo

Michael Castle

Beautiful lake park. Outstanding hiking. A 400 vertical rocky climb section to awesome views.

Brittney Hunt

This is the most beautiful place in Wisconsin (my opinion) There is so much to see and do here! We came here for a day on our vacation and had to go back the next day because it was so beautiful. We plan on buying passes for the year so we can spend our days there! It is a 2+ hour drive from us but SO worth it! You will never be bored here. The gift shop is fair priced too!!

Bill Green

Great place to camp in Winsconsin. Group sites are great, but G2 is the best of the bunch with more room a fire pit at the bottom. Drawback is that the sites are VERY muddy in the rain, and NO ELECTRICITY AT SITES. So forget charging your cell phone unless you're at the bathrooms. Bathrooms are OK, some showers are cold, like the family shower and toilet. FABULOUS hiking. With a great view on the mountain overlooking the lake. No motor boats, but good fishing.

Brianna Carothers

The staff on site is very informative. It is such a beautiful hike. There's so much to do. Camping, kayaking, hiking, picnics....etc. the views are breathtaking. GOOOOO!

Andrew Scully

Love camping at devils lake! I enjoy visiting in the winter just as much in the summer.

Ashley Buckhalter

What a beautiful spot of paradise! My kids ages 11,8, and 2 all had things the loved most about this state park! Made our entire vacation and I highly recommend to all!

Roslyn Lemke

We love Devil’s Lake and for the past 5 years we’ve enjoyed bringing our dogs swimming at the park. The online park map does not show designated dog swim areas, so we’ve always utilized space on the South Beach. Today during our visit we were told by the warden that the dog swim areas are basically outside any of the beach and picnic areas. So basically, there really isn’t any place near the water to sit and relax in the sun with your dogs. It would be very helpful to show the dog swim areas on the online map.

Lewis Vang

This was my first time going to devils state park and I really enjoyed it. There are two main parking lots: north and south. We went to the north parking lot; I like this side better. We got there early and got a picnic table and grill so we were good. Took the short hike around the lake which was easy, but will take atleast an hour depending on you. This is a great park to escape the city life.

Ashley Wiza

We went from Friday to Sunday and camped in the ice age loop. Camping was ok. Our spot way extremely rocky and small compared to other sites we saw. The bathrooms get dirty and run out of toilet paper very fast. We have always tent camped and are used to a much more rustic camp up north. The park is obviously very popular... To the the point it's way over crowded. The hike up to devils doorway was so busy that we spent more time waiting for groups to pass. When we got to the top we couldn't really enjoy the views. There were so many people trying to get photos that you have to wait to see the views. South shore says no pets but every 6th person had a dog. Yes, the views are pretty but you really need to get up early to enjoy them in peace and quiet. We got up shortly before 6 to see the sunrise at the north side beach. Considering no one else was awake it was the best experience we had there.

Maurice Schaus

We had a great day hiking with Badger Trails, Inc. Not even the rain could stop us. Nice facilities.

Joel Dziedzic

Such a beautiful park! Nice beaches, great trails, excellent swimming and gorgeous views from the different bluff lookouts. Get there early if visiting on the weekends as it gets very busy and the parking lots get full (especially throughout summer)!

Jase Pfile

Find a good time during the week to go in the summer and fall. It's packed because the views are breathtaking. So much to do here ! Campsites are clean , trails and water are clean.

Ольга Демидова

This park worth visiting only if you are going to hike into mountains. The walk around the lake isn’t that interesting and the views from everywhere are pretty the same. A lot of people

Michele Davis

This is such a beautiful place to go. They have a beach for swimming, you can fish, they have paddle boats too. Oh and a lot of hiking. Even if you don't want to do any of those activities you can take in the beauty and enjoy nature.

Terry Zahn

Some of the best views in Wisconsin. A truly beautiful and wonderful place to hike, camp, swim or relax. I've been visiting Devil's Lake for many years. It is well maintained and managed. It can be crowded but is still a good place for family and friends. A true 5 star place.

Maddie Colestock

Beautiful park with a number of great hikes! Lots of the hikes are mostly in shade which worked great for our 3 month old. We put her in a front carrier and could do lots of the hikes in less than 3 hours. Great view of the lake from all angles. A walking stick is suggested because of the many rocks/steps that you'll encounter. There are also the two beaches with gift shops, water fun rentals and snackage.. the north side has significantly more.

Molly Orman

Beautiful park with fantastic programming from the parks department. Best visited mid-week or during the off season when it's less crowded.

Corey Meaney

Park is absolutely beautiful and the scenery is great. The bathrooms need some work but were relatively clean upon inspection. It gets really busy here on the weekends and if you are on the trails past 10 am you are going to have some company. The trails are well maintained but some are not going to be easy for beginners or small kids so plan accordingly.

Vicki Schlupp

So much to explore in this place of natural beauty. Very gracious people that work in the gate house & concession. A true treasure of Wisconsin!

This is a beautiful Park with pretty difficult but very rewarding hiking. There is also some very good swimming in a very clear lake! Loved it!!

Granger Marsden

A beautiful Wisconsin state park. The hikes are wonderful, and there is plenty of room for camping, and plentiful first come first serve grills. A large restaurant/camp store which is the best stocked I've ever seen at a state park. The rock climbing is superb. Only downside is relatively limited.parking so get there early!

Before we ever visited Wisconsin we thought it was just farms and the land of lactose. But after researching we found Devil's Lake State Park. The hiking is a very beautiful view and I would definitely recommend seeing the Devil's Doorway rock formation. If we had more than one day we would do more than hiking around the whole lake.

The park I grew up with and I will always love it. It's almost like an extension of my home. Good place for hiking and camping, also rock climbing and swimming. It's not so out of the way that you can't just go to have a nice lunch as well.

Hardhead

Plenty of things to do. Go swimming, rent a paddle boat, go hiking and plenty of grills and picnic tables for cookouts. If you do go hiking being water and a good pair of shoes. There are no restrooms on th trail so go before the long hikes. If heights are not your thing stay off the cliff trails. It does cost money to get in even if you are a resident of the state, little more if you are an out of state resident. I would love to go back and go swimming or fishing.

Laird Le

My favorite state park in the region...even competes with Western US parks. Beautiful lake and something for everyone. You want to hike up? 400-500ft elevation gains will satisfy you for the Midwest. Don't like climbing up? There are lower hikes near the lake. Awesome picnic and camping facilities. Beaches are decent and no motor water craft so paddling is peaceful. Go any season and it will reward you.

Keyur Parikh

Beautiful location and wonderful views. Nice beach access especially for families with young kids. Lots of trees and reasonable facilities.

Brad Hansen

Devil's Lake State Park quickly found its way as my family and friends favorite State Park in Wisconsin, as it has many! Definitely bring your hiking shoes, and be prepared for all day adventures! The park is dog friendly, which is an added bonus! You can't go wrong with the exceptional views, and if you're there when it's hot out, you can also go swimming!!

Dave Immel

We love Wisconsin's State Parks and Devil's Lake is no exception. The staff was friendly and helpful despite being a very busy and hectic day for them. We were at the 'south' beach area. We arrived on a very hot July Saturday and of course the beach was packed. Again, everyone was very accommodating. We stayed a couple hours and left when the heat became unbearable. We would highly recommend this as a great summer escape with the kids.

Marcia Siehr

Great place for a vigorous hike with beautiful views. We saw plenty of soaring birds and even a bald eagle. Arrive early in the day or plan to wait a long time to enter the state park ($28 per year). Nice bathrooms. Nice beach and picnic areas. It's a great park.

Shawn Zimmerman

Truly unique from anywhere else. Generations of my family have loved this place. Definitely a must see.

Emily Cohen

Love that Wisconsin warm fuzzy feeling....friendly staff to begin, which is nice after a (sometimes) long line to get a permit for your car. But if you must wait, don't worry it's worth it! Devil's Lake is a gorgeous place that's big enough to explore in and around all day, but small enough to feel cozy, easy to get back to your campsite from where ever you may roam.

Larry Janicek

The park is better than ever, great place to go for anyone. Go early and beat the traffic or even better camp overnight. All had a great time and will go back again

Juliana Herran

Some trails are not well marked making it hard to find some of the places in the pictures but it has beautiful sceneries full of life. Good spaces for climbing and canoeing.

Arturo morales

such a fun park, from swimming to cooking out and hiking you will not have a bad time here. before of parking as it gets busy during the summer month but they usually have a sign showing if parking is full. plenty of space to have fun here so if parking is full you will still have plenty space once you find parking!!!

Jack Turner

Headed up here for vacation with my family this past weekend and it was incredible! Great spot for sightseeing, hiking, fishing, camping and just about everything outdoors.

Landon Kortman

This is a great place to camp and hike. We have gone here for several years and thoroughly enjoy it. Highly recommend seeing Devil's Door!

Branden Gile

This review is for the SOUTH SHORE. Probably the only lake worth swimming in close to Madison. Also a great destination for hiking with multiple trails at different levels. It has decent bathrooms and a shower to rinse off after swimming, grills dotting the grass near the beach, and a pretty large parking lot as well! I can't say anything about the kayak/canoe rentals or other services however.

tom coward

A great place for moderate hiking, picnic, canoeing and so on. Offers concessions, a store, tables and restrooms. Good for kids and pets. Go to this one.

Matthew Gonzales

Amazing park to hike. Awesome views from the bluffs. If you want a parking spot. (daily= 16$ yearly=$40 but that pass is good for any state park in Wisconsin.) You should show up early or it seems to clear out after 3pm. Park closes at 8.

Rachel Jacobson

The most beautiful place! The park is just gorgeous, and the nature center is an excellent place to cool off, learn, and grab activity books with the kids. The bluff hiking is fantastic, but difficult, and not safe with really young children. Stick to the car falling rocks trail with young children and non-hikers.

Andrew Parker

Absolutely breathtaking here! I love my hikes and kayaking. Plan your adventures out here!

Liz Ramirez

I love fishing here with my niece and the water is very nice there is hardly any pollution. It is a great place to go for a hike and just relax. The only thing that I think should change would be the bathrooms because they need to be cleaned more often.

Jen Thor

This is one of the best state parks in Wisconsin. Very nice camping sites, even a camp store that opens until 10pm. The lake is absolutely beautiful and swimming is pleasant. Theres a north and south shore with food and merchandise available. Definitely a go-to spot for my family.

Dorothy Kosowski

Always enjoy going here. Nice place to take dogs on a leash. Has a good concession stand and a lot of t-shirts. Place is really busy in the Summer

Jennifer Vergara

It was my very first time there and I LOVED it. The park is beautiful. The trail is perfect, I enjoyed it with my husband and children and friends. Thank you for keeping up with the park.

Kevin Anderson

A great places to hike. The blister on my foot says wear good shoes if you are taking the bluff hike. Well stocked concessions provided the snacks needed to complete the day.

Anastasia Golofastova

Great Lake. There is a lot of trails for hiking, walking, running . You can rent a pedal board, or kayak and explore the lake from all sides. A lot of place for bbq. And on a weekend it’s packed. So if you have a chance to come during the weeks, you can enjoy more

Craig ROESLER

One of the best state parks to visit. They have it all in one location. From camping to fishing to rock climbing/trail hiking. This park and its outstanding beauty definitely delivers. Since 2009 this place has boomed in popularity, so plan accordingly for traffic and parking especially on warm summer weekends.

Cole Lynda

Such a beautiful place to spend the day. We rented kayaks in the morning (one hour minimum and then by the half hour after- both single and tandem kayaks available). We then hiked a couple of different trails. The guide available when you enter is very helpful to pick a trail that suits your ability level and time preferences.

Adam Kniffen

Amazing place! Even if it were just the beautiful lake and peaceful setting this would be a must see--but the incredible staff and high value services (food, gift shop, boat rentals, nature center) make this one of the best places I know of to bring a family. My toddler loved the calm, gently sloping beach and swim area, and the nearby ample shade of the trees and a plethora of picnic tables meant we didn't have to fight for room out of the sun. The bathrooms were super clean, the food was great (and inexpensive), and the boating equipment was in great shape.

Deepthi Herga

Beautiful lake, beautiful place. This was our second visit yesterday, we want to go back sometime to take advantage of the kayaking and swimming sometime. The restroom facilities are good, but there is a lot of crowd (as expected) during holidays. Nothing much to eat around, but you can get your own food and have a picnic on one of the plenty picnic tables.

Dynel Endl

So many things to do and ways to enjoy nature. Camping areas galore with easy access to facilities. Love the Camp store, it has anything you forgot you might need.

Tipsy Bass

Absolutely wonderful! The water was excellent, and the campsite was perfect. Hiked a bit before we left, I did not want to leave! The bathrooms were clean, considering all of the families and people that were there over the weekend. Highly recommend going here, even if it's just for the day. Used to come all the time growing up.

H Cira

I recently visited Devil’s Lake State Park for the first time with my family. The cost for a yearly State Park visitors sticker (entry fee) was $20. Not bad for a year to visit any state park. The bluffs are beautiful, especially if you’re interested in taking photos of nature from above. We shopped in the store and I found a cute picture frame to put a photo of our first visit. Matching coffee mugs that I love and they have a penny machine that costs .50 cents, where you can watch your penny be flattened with a design of your choice. Kind of cute for kids. The beach is quite large, however I did not swim in the water so I can’t say wether it was clean or not. Very nice place and we will be visiting again soon!

Ryan Prechel

With the possible exception of Wildcat State Park, this is the state park that I have visited the most. It is very popular, which means there are usually too many people there for my taste on a nice Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

Tim Schulz

My absolute favorite place for camping. Beautiful lake, bluffs, and hiking trails. Nice campsites with friendly and helpful staff. It doesn't get much better than this in the Midwest at least. Beach can get busy during the summer. Grab the ice cream, its really good.

Ashley Buckholtz

Devils lake is a hot spot to do a full weekend of activities. The camping is phenomenal, the hike to the top of the east bluff is challenging but rewarding. But the trail all around the park is worth a trip too. I would suggest taking a hiking backpack, one with water available hands free to allow your hands to be free in the event you slip on the rocks. Definitely reccomend hiking shoes NOT tennis shoes on the balanced rock trail. Slippery! Also suggest bringing money for kayak, paddle boarding or canoe rentals the lake! Come early! The south shore parking lot fills out around noon and stays busy until dinnertime in the summer. Still beautiful in the non-summer months too!

Zach Druckrey

Great campsites, amazing hiking trails. Some of the most beautiful bluffs I've ever seen

Debbie Bishop

The sites sure good size and the staff is friendly. Something for everyone! Beach, dog beach, and lots of hikes.

Paul Brown

This is a summer paradise for our family. I have three kids (8,5,3) who absolutely love this place. We could stay all day as there are endless things to do. The water wasnt too cold, it didn't get deep for a while, and there was plenty of public area to sit watch and relax. We took a hike up to Balance Rock in the afternoon (picture). Short and sweet but with some spectacular views. Will be back as often as I come back to the area.

Vaughan Markle

I took the hike to balancing rock and it was TOTALLY worth it. Definitely fun. You'd be surprised how many people there had dogs. Then there was also a beach, which was a lot of fun. Totally a five star place.
