REVIEWS OF Beacon Rock State Park IN Washington

JOHN WOOLSEY

Awesome hike, great views from the top.

Jennifer Todd

Short and sweet! Easy beautiful family friendly hike!

kristinahanks

Beautiful waterfall and other things to do at beacon rock all around beautiful place to see

BRAD WILLIAMS

Great hike and lookout over the Gorge. You will have to purchase a day pass I think was 10$ or an annual pass for 30$ good for two vehicles and the whole park outside of Beacon Rock. They have kiosks for credit/ debit cards. The is also …

Darline McHarless

This is a really cool place to hike. And I love all the switchbacks. In the history about the whole thing. It's worth the hike and The View. Even pain and stupid Park fee. I will be back

Maya Halley

Views for days. It's a paved path that isn't too difficult, but there are quite a lot of switchbacks. Uphill until you reach the top and then you go back. It wasn't too busy when we went. The uphill was well worth the view. There are quite a few places along the path that are great for pictures.

Naleena Villarreal

This was a wonderful and fun short hike, And very easy mini beautiful view points along the way. Can't say enough about how beautiful it was. Highly recommended this trail

Ray Cox

This is a great family hike. Beautiful views and I guarantee your kids will sleep well that night when they get home.

jamie cotton

It was a gorgeous 1 mile hike vertically up the rock. There were metal railings and wooden bridges along the trail to assist you in walking up the steep cliffside. It is easy to get vertigo by looking down while walking up. There are restroom and water facilities below before the hike. The views along the way before making it to the top are spectacular. Once you make it to the top you are about 850 feet from the ground.

vignan sagar

Another beautiful place to hike nearby I've tried the Hamilton mountain trail which is a moderate hike and there are 2 routes the one which is shorter distance is steep and the longest one is plain.

Vicki Bennett

Not for people afraid of high places.

Yer Yang

Amazing hike with beautiful views. However this is not for the folks with fear of heights. Or for kids who likes to run off; some paths are literally on the edge of the cliff.

Matthew Pillman

A beautiful little gem tucked along the mountain trail. It does make for a cold swim.

G B King

Great golf course with driving range. Reasonably priced zip line experiences.

Roger Merritt

What a beautiful place. Super clean bathrooms. The pavilion is amazing. Boat docks. Just a great place.

Jared Allen

This is truly an awesome little hiking spot! It takes about 30 minutes or so to get to the top. There are a lot of amazing views to be had along the way so definitely take your time on your way up! I wouldn't recommend this hike for very young children as the railings they used on most of the trail have pretty big gaps and it would be pretty easy for a child to fall through.

jimmy Lee

Good set of stairs going up,about 40 minute climb, paved all the way

Melyrob Stefan

Beautiful place .go a YouTube Tom and mely aventure

Cody McGraw

Fun, short hike. Views along the way are better than when you reach the top.

Chad

Love camping at Beacon rock. Was 30 degrees most the time but still had a very relaxing time.

Destaney Berry

I always enjoy this location the bathrooms could be better maintained I believe. There is no mirror and its usually out of soap and they also could clean the water off floor in back stall it seems a bit dangerous

Nellie Garbuzov

A fun lil hike, gorgeous views all around.

Kara McGinty

It was such a beautiful hike. The views are breathtaking. And the history behind Beacon Rock is very cool. This is a must check out hike. It's fairly easy.

Ben Scott

Fantastic trails and views, excellent services, and attentive staff!

Mike Young

Short but moderately tough climb up to the top. Well worth the view. Very unique feature in the Columbia River gorge

Amy Chka

Great park. Pretty big size, cozy... You can also go for a little hike and make sure you hike up the Beacon Rock... Breathtaking views...

Shannon Renoe

I visit Beacon Rock often as my parents live virtually across the street. However, I can still recommend visiting wholeheartedly. Even a drive through the area is well worth it!

To Kol

Nice place for a short hike. Only down side is the top of the rock doesnt not have a big area for people to seat and relax. Worth visiting!!

Chris Lewis

Seriously amazing spot. Highly recomendes

Kristine Todd

Beautiful!!! I did not want to post anything because it wasn't very busy on a hot day and I liked to keep it that way!

Oxi B

Very beautiful view once you get to the top. Not very safe for little kids.

The Illustrious Mr. Panda

It was very clean, the views were incredible, and it was enough of a trail to be challenging at points but easy enough my 2 year old did it with me.

abe Kane

We just went on the Hamilton Mountain trail 2.5 mile loop to the waterfall. Low traffic, beautiful scenery. Waterfall really wasn’t much , but the hike was great. $10 for a day pass, $30 for yearly. Beacon Rock is there too. Told about a hour and a half round trip. We didn’t have the time, but another time maybe.

eloisa anguiano

Perfect place to enjoy the George

Ken Meyers

In the Columbia Gorge so the scenery along the river is great. Nicely kept campground. Good hikes nearby. Beacon Rock to climb.

Sam Hisel

This rock itself is a good hike on a lot of switchbacks on the side of the Rock. At the top you'll have arguably the best views of the Gorge from the Washington side.

Chris Stubb

Wow is all I gotta say the hike was really easy the views are breath taking at the top there were so many hungry squirrel's very tame also

Iryna Tsukanova

Great place for easy hikes. Awesome views from any spot, specially from the top! You won’t regret going there! Note that there’s no free parking.

Larissa Lorton

Nice cabin like cobwebby bathroom stop!;)

donald wong

Easy and safe 45 minutes walk within 45 minutes driving distance from Portland. Best for a sunset hike.

Rick M.

Most fun hike we've done in quite awhile! The winding stairs are awesome.

Dvid Mza

Amazing views. It's a must for all those visiting Oregon ❤️

April Bacongco

This place was beautiful hike. Friendly for kids and family. I recommend to wear hiking shoes it's quite an incline. Also I recommend to go early to beat the crowd. There is parking and bathroom near the entrance of the trial. You can even rock climb if you have the gears. Park pass is recommended, when you are finished there is a camp ground accross to have a picnic. If you're passing through I recommend to check it out it's 1.8 mile hike overall.

Michael Hassur

Really fun hike and beautiful views...

Glynnes Buchanan

The view of this monolithic rock and the those who dare the staggering switchback walkway is definitely worth the look, but, there are only 5 RV and two tent camping sites and it sits directly beside Highway 14 and the railroad tracks. Unless you have a boat and you're fishing this park offers little, including playground equipment and peace.

Thats True Reviews

Beacon Rock has amazing views of the Gorge. Takes an hour to hike. Would not recommend this as a hike for children. To many cliff drop offs. The campground is clean and well maintained with showers.

Yogilachi Wellness

Excellent hikes. Hamilton Mountain has a beautiful trail with a spectacular waterfall and bridge, follow the trail all the way up to the finale of breathtaking views from the first summit. No need to go further as this is the best view. Pack a picnic and enjoy. Lots of dogs on the trail with serious hikers passing us on the way up and down. Decide how you flow and enjoy this fabulous hike. Other trails worth exploring and great camping...if you can get one of the 3 sites near the water it's perfect camping. We spent a 4th there and while it was a bit busy on the water the night was fun.

Richard Wallis

Amazing hike and view

Victoria Miller

We had a great hike up to Hamilton mountain in early April. The trail was muddy and slippery in places so good boots are certainly required but the views are so worth the trek! It was foggy at the summit when we arrived but so many great views on the way up.

Levi Hayes

Wonderful state park.

Daniel D

Great views. Would say the hike is easy to moderate. Recommend bringing 1 bottle of water up and 1 down if a hot day. As far as parking, you must have a "discover pass" to park near the beacon trailhead. The pass is $10/ car. We didn't come with exact cash, so we attempted to go to the headquarters a bit down the road. The headquarters was closed. We then found out that there are automated park machines that take credit card. You can find one at the beacon lot right before the trail head, or one at a nearby camping area. They just look like skinny black boxes with a blue "p" on them. The trail is one way up, then the same way back down. There is a restroom right at the parking lot.

Marcus Bennett

Easy day hike. Amazing views of the Columbia River Gorge.

Jake Wakley

It's a cool hike to the top of the rock. Only 1 mile but it takes a while as it's switchbacks all the way up. The trail is well-maintained with handrails most of the way up. Viewpoints along the trail are impressive with the best view on the whole hike coming a little before the top. The view at the top is great too but is obstructed in one direction.

Richard Beeching

Great hike not for beginners. Really good exercise.

Jon Garrison

This is an excellent hike with beautiful views. The roundtrip hike can take less than an hour at a steady pace. Make sure you have a Washington Discovery Parking Pass or you'll need to buy a one day pass at the parking lot.

Dave Stearns

Awesome hike. It's worth the effort!

Anthony Lafontaine

Great hike with beautiful views!

Roxy Davis

Cool stop in the mountains, even with the rain and fog this place felt magical

Ron Cheechov

Nice running trails.

Keith Odom

A really great hike. The hike up is well maintained, and though it is an almost one mile up hill hike to the top, it's not too strenuous. Parking requires a WA Discover pass, but you can purchase one at the trailhead.

Melodi Ramquist

The waterfalls were a pleasant surprise as was the river! The hike to Hamilton Mountain is a long loop with a great view at the top! No too busy on a weekday afternoon.

Yon K

Great and simple hicking place for starters

Jeremiah Sobotik

Fun easyer going hike nice views

Herron Law

Everyone should do this hike. When you get to the top you will know why this hike is so special. Don’t forget to pay parking fees.

K Hopkins

You can get to the scenic spots at a reasonable pace in about 15 minutes. The top is about only good for bragging rights & the view isn't much better. You will need a discovery pass - they patrol this frequently! The built in walkways make this accessable for all ages. There were both toddlers and a couple in their 80's when I was last there.

Sam Greene

Stupendous! Don't forget your Discovery Pass.

Holly Hobson

All age short hike. 51 switch-backs. Terrain varies from loose rock, concrete to uneven rock slab. Forested with great viewpoints. Easy parking and restrooms. Wish people would hike out their dogs poo. Ya'll need an eleash!

Joe Gulley

Nice little hike, took us about 45 minutes up with young kids. Can get busy, but still enjoyable with great views.

John M

It’s a short day hike of about 45-60 minutes each way to be able to experience one of the most beautiful natural vistas in the Northwest. The restrooms at the base of the climb are flush toilets, and the parking is reasonable during all but the busiest times. Your campground parking permit doubles as a parking pass for here too!

Nick Makiney

Cool place for a few hikes and some great views overlooking the gorge

Dimitriy

What a great shad run this year. Great park!

Tsangrong n

The trail goes through great varieties of scenery and elevation changes. The waterfall was impressive, the wind gusts were fierce atop Hamilton mountain and the sound of Hardy creek on the way down was calming. Moderately difficult, but there are number of scenic spots to rest and picnic along the way. The Saddle has a nice flat area to picnic and enjoy the view. The Veterans day being fee free day, there were a good number of hikers. One of the best hike on Washington side of the gorge. Enjoy!

Marley King

Such a beautiful state park. You can hike up to the top of Beacon Rock or down to the lake at the bottom of the rock for beautiful views and lake activities. It would be fun to kayak or paddle board here. Some families at the lake fishing as well, but quiet and peaceful :)

David Schuck

RV camping, tent camping, boat launching, and picknicking. Just a beautiful park.

Candice Summerlin

My secret wedding spot!

Klondike Watkins

Alot of.family adventures , here thank u for the memories

Brenton Clive

Loved our visit, but can't rate it 5 stars when we had to pay $32 to camp one night.

Cameron E

Great hike, amazing view of the gorge! Good panarama opportunity at the top. The Hamilton Mountain loop was worth it. My family got pooped around 2.5 miles in and didn't make it to the top

AlinaLycan Lovesaries

We really enjoyed this rock! Thank you.

tommy twoteeth

Challenging, beautiful, and somewhat technical. When you gotta use your hands in some sections, you know its good! Even spotted a bunny on the trail which was crazy with all the dogs around. :)

Susi Lantz

Beacon Rock is a must. Gorgeous views of the Columbia River and the Gorge. Can be a bit dizzying for people that don't like heights

No ones Bis

Challenging but so do able. Views are fabulous. Pet friendly which means the world to us. Reaching the top is quite the challenge and a bit hairy but so worth it.

Bruce Verkruyse

Great hiking. Around 3,000 upward climbing steps to the pools.

D N C

Beautiful park with hiking and camping. Lovely setting for a wedding...❤️

Kevin Cajas

Easy hike to the top and definitely worth it.

Brian Rohan

An intermediate hike with great views.

John Huggins

Great hike up to the top! Be very careful with kids!

Darrick Umhauer

Amazing little hike, the trail system is the most impressive part, and that's competing against the view at the top

Rodolfo Torresillas

Beautiful place, unlike anything I have ever done before in my hikes. This is a must have for people who greatly enjoy grest views. Kid friendly as well, they have a little park for little ones to enjoy !

Janice Richardson

Cool hike! Our group had young as 4 who made it to the top. The views are great. It was super windy when we hiked and we were grateful for the railings!

Kristen Romine

Great climb that doesnt take alot of time but worth the views

Dawn Woods

Gorgeous hiking spot! Fairly crowded on summer weekends but still very enjoyable.

Dean Covel

Train tracks at campground. Not to bad.

John Burke

Easy hike but steep.

michael etapa

Really cool park , picnic are and camp ground , some RV hook ups , great views of beacon rock and Columbia river gorge !

Rita Paulette

It is a beautiful place. Right here, right now. Only thing that would make it better; should have been here early so we can stay longer. Discover pass required. Fee

don dreiske

Its just beautiful with the mountains in the background peeking through the clouds and the winding river make it hard to beat

Solofemalehiker35

Hiked Hardy Loop trail and a mile or more on the top of Hardy 5/7/19 10.3 miles with 2,091feet of elevation gain. No snow, but lots of bugs. Lots of flowers blooming on the trail. A bit windy, but I like it that way and trail is not as overgrown as the last time I hiked it. Only Saw 5 people close to the start, but did see a bunch of people in the lot getting there around 10:30am. Started the hike at 4:45am and finished at 10:30am. Saw a deer running across the entrance to where I was parked at on the way out. First big game I've seen at beacon. Hiked 10.4 miles 4/16/19 from equestrian trailhead to bridge trail to upper hardy trail (blow downs on trail, debris and snow) to I named trail (to gate), to Hamilton mountain (little bit of snow on trail), to equestrian trail.

Joseph Mayeaux

Great when it's not crowded. Easy .9 miles each way out and back with a lot if opportunities for scenic pictures. Come early to beat the crowd and don't forget your Discover Pass.

Adam Kessler

The views as you walk up the trail are great

Bau Na

Its amazing place. I loved it.

Daniel Schoepflin

Great Hike and beautiful views

Brittani Toynbee

Such a scenic boat launch! We launched our boat here and had an awesome day. Paid the $7.00 launch fee but your also required to have a discovery pass to even park

Roxy Kokkeler

Always a great hike and very beautiful. It is amazing the beautiful trail that they carved out from the huge rock. Have hiked it many times and would recommend it to anyone coming to Washington

Deborah Byrd

This is a safe climb for us seniors. The views are beautiful

Jayt2k267

Such a beautiful hike for how short it is! Great warm up or end your day!

Tom a

Great boat launch. Usually quiet.

Peggy Sue McCormick

Beautiful spot to stretch your legs and see amazing views

Stephen Kriete

Loved it. Needs more parking but other than that breath taking.

Jasen Kolev

One of the most amazing natural wonders I have seen and experienced. You can climb safely to the very top. On the way up I met families with small kids.

Ron Mckenzie

unfortunately theres not alot of RV spots 5 full hook ups that we found. The area is wonderful and so much to explore you really need a 4 day trip for it! The forest Rangers are absolutely wonderful and so helpful. I've been to places where they treat you like a herd and can be somewhat disrespectful. let me tell you here they are like your friends. There to help you and keep the peace. Mr Bob the forest Ranger stood out the most to us by really helping my family when we got there late friday. They place we were headed to looked like 8 mile and just needed a place to quickly crash. Instead of shunning me away he found me a spot and even talked with me a while making sure we were all safe. Told me where and when to get a spot and by god we did. If it wasnt for Bob the Forest ranger we wouldnt have had such a great time. He even found us a spot to park our trailer safely on sunday to do one more quick hike before we left! Thanks for being so passionate about your job Bob! Till we meet again!

Melissa Williams

This place has become a spring summer tourist shtt show. Parking is limited and grossly over crowded (like Yosemite National Park) on the weekends. It's a totally over rated hike.

Neil McGown

Tighten up your hats kids cause it is windy. Don't let that deter you. The hike is beautiful and the sights all the way up and around the rock are wonderful. Enjoy!

Larry Romero

Very beautiful and great place for group picnic

Albert Justice

Nice and clean with bathrooms and picnic area. Very crowded on the weekend though

Dillon Ridder

The climb to the top was exhilarating, and the scenery is absolutely beautiful. The view from the summit was a little underwhelming due to the cloud cover, but the water falls and view of the river are fantastic.

Jacob Czech

Great hike. Easy-moderate with mild grate throughout. Don't forget discover pass or daily fee

cat draggon

Beautiful trek up a solidified volcano. The walk up is easy enough with epic view points of hood river and beyond

Al Murashige

Unique rock formation on the Columbia, the views up top are wonderful

Bonnie M.

Great hiking spot! Fairly crowded on summer weekends but still very enjoyable.

Zahra Mandana Fard

Best hike we had in the Columbia River Gorge area, was the trail that goes up the Beacon Rock. It also offers the best views of the area.

Byrd Bickford

848 ft of how cool is this what a view and a great park for recreation or gatherings RockHounds or fishermen or just ta kick back and soak up the sights.

Ed Fish

Great. But expected a larger observation area at top

Hector A Parayuelos

This park is a quick way to get up high and see some fantastic Gorge views. I loved the way they built the switchbacks into the cliff. Be forewarned - the summit is a bit anticlimactic, you have better views at a few points below it.

Garett Martocello

Great hike that will get your blood pumping depending on your pace. You basically go up the rock with a great view the entire time.

Loren Hanson

A beautiful park with gorge-ous views. It's quite a bit of a hike to the top, but even along the way you can see the beauty of the Columbia Gorge. Also, the hike to the top is gated off at dusk, so get there ahead of time.

Jaimiey Sears

Sort of a short walk, but amazing views! Go when the weather is good for sure.

Sean Basford

An excellent hiking trail right up the side of the rock, to the very top. Beautiful view of the Columbia Gorge.

Jeremy Frey

Carside city adjacent multipitch

Oliver Caesar

50 cents for a three minute shower that only gave me 60 seconds. Getting ripped off is never as humiliating as when you're naked.

Pat Balch

It's a great hike if your not afraid of heights fear of falling or steep terrain. Views are beautiful

Warren Scott

Always a great place to get away and unplug.

Eugenio Gonzalez Portales

Amazing place to kayaking, jet skiing and share with family! Do not miss it!

Orlando Benedict

Easy and picturesque nature walk on a huge rock. Parking is a little unsafe due to proximity to 14, but that's the entire Washington side near there.

Joshua Renoe

Great trail head. Beautiful viewpoints everywhere.

Taylor Johnson

This is a huge state park with some absolutely amazing trails. If you stick to the right once you hit the trail, you gain 2200ft of elevation in the first 2.5 miles and then gradually finish the 7 mile loop. There is even more hiking further back I have yet to explore. There is camping and horseback trails as well. While parking in the summer can be hairy, you can always park at Beacon Rock and walk up for a day hike. Really a gem.

Vitalik G

Great short hike. Moving at a moderate walking speed I got up in 20 min.

Mister Guy

The remains of the interior of an ancient volcano core, that's almost 900 feet tall, that you can hike up & get good views of the Columbia River.

Spencer Nord

This is one of the quintessential Portland hikes. If you are from there or any of the surrounding cities, you have probably gone here for a school trip or quick hike. It is a pretty hike, but since the fire a couple of years ago, the …

Eric J

The stairs up are a challenge but worth it for bragging rights and the view is nice too.

Charles Bale

Short hike, stunning views, you can't have a fear of heights to make this hike work-you are pretty exposed.

Cayce Salvino

This place is magical! Well worth a visit even in the mist and rain.

John Rafanelli

Great taste of the gorge I'd you only have a little time

alena nikolaychuk

I love this place. The hike is really clean there are no hanging trees or bushes. Throughout the entire hike the path is sturdy until you get to the peak point, there the gravel and larger rocks are unsturdy so watch your step. It is about an hour and a half hike to the top but once you get there the entire gorge is seen from a breathtaking point. I give this place 9/10 only because there are snakes there. On our hike we saw around three and almost stepped on one. Have fun!!

KEN HOFFMAN

Some of the walkway boards (bridges) are in need of replacement. Proceed with caution. The view is always great.

chris sternagel

Great place to hike both for Beacon Rock and Hamilton Mountain. The squirrels at the top of Beacon Rock or added bonus. Make sure you bring some trail mix for them .

Carlie Douglas

Fun day hike, but it does get busy during peak season!

Nicholas Goss

Awesome hike. Could be difficult for some people as it is straight up. But it is a beautiful landmark and nice hike up.

Kyle Roy

Gorge-ous. If you have climbing gear including 2 60m ropes consider climbing to the top of the plug. Easy 5th class, bolts at the top, sketchy chicken heads to sling on the ridge.

Christopher Villarreal

Great hike, pet friendly (leashed), amazing view!

Anne LeSenne

Great quick hike with absolutely amazing views! Sunset was beautiful.

Jonathan Romero

Truly stunning wilderness area. Lots of trails & opportunity to explore this beautiful country.

Haley Gee

While the hike features MANY switchbacks, it was not exhausting. Great views of the Columbia River.

Kristin Davies

We just spent time here climbing Beacon Rock; we didn't visit any other parts of the park. The bathrooms at the base were clean and well maintained, and the hike was great, even with ice and and snow everywhere! Beautiful location, and a great easy hike for the kids - probably even better & easier in the summer time. Beautiful views all along the climb, not just at the top.

KatBird27

The group campsite is awesome. We had about 100 in our group this weekend and had room for at least double more!

Geneva Thornhill

Definitely an uphill treck, its usually fairly windy but 100% worth it.

Amber Lemoine

Breathtaking views. Seeing the gorge from here is a must. Decent parking, bathrooms at base. The leaves changing makes the land look like a coloring book.

Chris Hollen

Great hiking trails. They will take cards or cash for the discover pass so you can park up there.
