This Park belongs to the category of Memorial park.
What a great place. Thanks to all who has served
The memorial is a must see if you go to D.C! The memorial is beautiful
Amazing statue and piece of American history! Easy to get to and has ample free parking. Close to a metro station and walking distance to everything Arlington has to offer. Also a great view of the fireworks from DC.
It evokes understanding of the supreme sacrifice our Marines gave in their love for our country. Words fail to describe the significance of seeing this memorial up close.
The best memorial ever. Free public parking or one can access the memorial from Arlington Cemetery via the trolly and short walk. Watch out for the black steps, every step, as they are sometimes hard to distinguish. These steps can be hard on the elderly due to there lack of contrast.
A surreal experience as it lists every conflict (and some locations) where America fought wars from the Revolutionary War to now. An important and must see location if in DC or to at least look up to learn about our important, if not occasionally sad, history.
A very breathing monument just by the sheer size of it. Visiting it close to sunset is even more breathtaking with the setting sun and the red sky. Highly recommend to visit.
Good hike from Arlington National Cemetery. Was bigger than we thought it would be. Glad we took the time to check it out. The detail was impressive.
Awesome memorial to Iwo Jima. One of the many great things to view in DC.
A fitting tribute to the men who inspired a nation during World War II. Currently undergoing renovation to the surrounding steps, landscaping but in no way inhibits one’s ability to view such an awesome memorial. Definitely a must see for all who visit the Washington DC area.
A must see for any Marine, Semper Fi!
Awe inspiring in size, setting, and views!
I never saw it in person but it was nice because we went as a group. It is something to think about, the men and women that sacrifice so much for this country it is also a sad thing but it's something to be thoughtful of. It is amazing the men who stood that day to honor her country.
Beautiful presentation of American history.
Always faithful.
A very good place to visit. It makes me so happy to know that the people that served are being honored in a way that they deserve. They fought for this country and having this in their honor is a true blessing.
Very atmospheric and moving. Excellent monument with great detail.
Very cool place and a lot of history to learn about. Go here
Awesome memorial and beautiful surrounding area. I couldn't help but listen to 1,2,3,4 United States Marine Corps while walking around it. For me that made it a little more special.
Beautiful grounds. Netherlands Carillion is becoming an eyesore...it needs a good coat of paint
This is one of the most mesmerizing memorials in the dc area. My favorite time to go ya sunrise because you don’t have a million tourists and you can watch the sunrise over the mall and from behind the monument. Then you can walk back through Arlington national cemetery and really take in what our military gives for us to be able to live.
Peaceful perfect place for a picnic. But no grills or anything. BYO-food Rangers patrol every now and then so relatively safe...
Definitely worth stopping by if your time permits. Plenty of area to roam around on. Please hit “Like” if this was helpful. Thanks.
Best example of combined outdoor tactile and audio description accessibility I have ever experienced. #a11y
Truly an awe inspiring memorial.
Very solemn and moving memorial. We visited it on a Night Tour with a big bus company. It was beautifully lit and peaceful. Glad I've seen it.
It is such am honor to see one of the most famous images/symbols in American history. Coming to this memorial is very much so worth it, especially when witnessing the flag flowing and bellowing in the wind majestically.
A must see for your DC area vacation. Easy free parking. Free entry
So much history here. Amazing place.
Shows the true meaning of heroism and the fight and honor for our flag and country. Very well depicted moment in history.
The US Marine Corps War Memorial is a giant piece of statue of the 6 personnel (5 marines and 1 navy medic) raising the US flag during the battle of Iwo Jima, February 1945. It is right at the entrance to the Arlington National Cemetery. This statue could be one of the most filmed location of the Arlington National Cemetery, and is indeed a national symbol for heroism and sacrifice made by some of the bravest of the country.
Amazing memorial. You have to drive all the way around it and see each view to completely appreciate it.
Such a beautiful place to be especially early in the morning. I came early in the morning today to catch the sunrise and take photos. Standing there and watching the statue of these gallant and brave soldiers pinning the flag to the ground in Iwo Jima against enemy and sniper fire is soul captivating. There is no sweeter love than giving one's life so others may live. As we commemorate D-Day, a big thank u to all our men, women and their families serving in the armed forces. To those who died defending freedom allover the world, RIP.
An iconic American tribute to the sacrifices of our American soldiers and sailors. Sunset or sunrise best time to see this
Such a powerful image of teamwork and patriotism. This memorial is a peaceful place for reflection and a chance to educate your children and adults on part of our nayion's history. Free to visit and we have been many times.
A moving walk through America's history
As marine you really understand the sacrifices that were made
Go see it its awesome
My uncle's service. Soooo many names
Memorial to US Marines, centered around the famous statue of the flag raising on Iwo Jima. Pretty park next to Arlington Cemetery, used as a parade ground for special occasions. Free to the public, all outdoors. Includes a small amount of free parking and a seating area. Bring a picnic, but be respectful & responsible (clean up, don't play Frisbee or tag, etc). Didn't see any garbage cans, and there's no restrooms. Currently undergoing renovations, so watch out for the workers & be careful on the steps.
The War Memorial is dedicated to all U.S. Marine Corps personnel who died in the defense of the United States since 1775. Very important and iconic memorial to visit. There is plenty of space to walk and it’s close to Arlington National Cemetery. FYI: it has a “city bike” station if you want to rent/return yours.
I rode from Los Angeles to Washington DC to see this memorial and a few others. Really spectacular and worth the trip. Amazingly both beautiful and peaceful. We came at night and no one was there except us. It was really special. It was a great time to remember those who I served with and pay my respects to all of the Marines who have served and fallen. One of the big highlights of my motorcycle journey across the beautiful United States of America.
I love Marines. Had the liberty to work at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton master planning billions of dollars of Military Construction projects under the direction of Captain Marshal Sykes. Captain is one amazing person who taught me so much. My supervisor was Tony Ray who is one slick guy who taught me a lot.
It’s a great memorial, not well lit at night. Make sure to watch your steps around it. Also an amazing view, you can see the capitol, the Washington monument, and Lincoln memorial. The memorial gives an illusion that our soldiers are holding up the American flag. It’s also very close to the Arlington Cemetery. A very cool memorial!
Semper Fi! This place is sacred to us Marines.
Don't leave DC without stopping here. It's only possible to capture this memorial in person... in your heart.
Went on a DC tour with a visiting brother. Totally enjoyed it.
Awesome. Took my 93 year old Iwo Jima vet for the first time. He was treated like royalty.
Still my favorite monument in America.
I saw not only the statue, But they had like a recorder that you can press and listen to the story. That is so helpful to many people. thanks are for who made this idea.
One of my favorite spots to visit.
I can't Express enough how much I enjoy getting every chance I get to visit. Whether to clear my head or simply enjoy this stunning memorial. Need to make your way over and enjoy the sight. Plenty of parking and plenty of lawn if you want to bring chairs or set up a picnic.
Really nice. FYI the moved the Marine Silent Drill team to the Lincoln Memorial on Tuesdays because of construction.
This is my time visit here and I love this place.
Honored... tour made me respect our service people so much more
Interesting memorial and unique statue. Easy to get to and convenient parking
Impeccably moving, would recommend going at night as it’s quieter, no tour groups, and especially moving
It was really cool to see a monument dedicated to the famous picture
First time going. Excellent monument. Great history.
You should go there. The statue is much much more huge than I thought.
A powerful monument applauding the camaraderie and strength of the U.S. Marine Corps.
Awesome views of the city of Washington, D.C., from Arlington, Virginia. Recently underwent a massive refurbishment. Near the Netherlands Carillon and Arlington National Cemetery. The memorial is nearly on the same axis as the National Mall so it offers great views of the National Mall, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and the US Capitol. Dedicated to the Marine dead of all wars, and their comrades of other services who fell fighting beside them.
Simply fantastic--and a short 10 minuted walk from the Arlington National Cemetery. What can I say, it is peaceful and beautiful, and so meaningful. I've always wanted to see it, and we easily combined it with a tour of the cemetery. Wonderful!
A moving Memorial to our Marines, past and present who faithfully serve. Limited parking and bathrooms are port-a-potties. The Norwiegan Carillon Monument is nearby as well as Arlington National Cemetary. Security is at Arlington's gate, so prepare to be wanded.
I got there just before sunset, it is still a tremendous site to see. Semper Fi
Part of the Honor Flight Tour
Most incredible monument I have ever seen! Uncommon valor was a common virtue!
Very solemn and moving memorial depicting marines raising flag over iwo Jima.
A very cool piece of art work. And the wars written around it.
My husband is US Marine and we love that place. Touch our hearts! ❤❤❤
This iconic scupture is worth seeing in real life. Great before, during, & after story
It was a great experience to visit this during Memorial Day with my family. A must see in the DC area.
Accompanied veterans as part of honor flight. They were in awe of this tribute.
Truly amazing WWII monument. Especially evocative at sunrise and sunset.
While you're visiting Arlington cemetery. Don't forget to check out this incredible monument. Hardly anyone there and it is massive.
It's always a great honor stand near this monument, since returning in 2004, I feel a tremendous respect for my brothers and sisters who continue to serve this great nation, I now stand in the ranks of the retired Marines, if I could do it all over again I wouldn't hesitate, it was and always will be the greatest honor of my life. Semper Fidelis
Iconic statue. Beautifully positioned along the sight line of other memorials in the distance
I saw this memorial at night and it was spectacular. I am sure it's equally beautiful by day. It's the fastest 10 minute visit and nothing else to see at this stop. You can quickly drive up, park at the site along the curb and jump out to see the memorial. Its a humbling visit and a beautiful piece of art. You don't want to miss it.
One of my favorite things to do when in DC. Love sitting in the shade looking at the Marine memorial, then Lincoln and Washington memorials and the Capitol building in the background.
If you drive around this, it looks as if the flag is being raised. Must have experience.
Visited in evening, probably would of been better @ dusk. Lighting wasn't great
It's so much bigger than it looks. Just a poingnant reminder of all the Marines lost in so many conflicts. Fighting for the freedom of all.
A beautiful monument that serves as a reminder of of the scale of WW II. This scene, immortalized from a photograph at Iwo Jima poignant. It is hard for us to imagine a war like this today that was being fought on multiple continents. This site also offers a great view of the capital, Washington monument and Lincoln Memorial
One of the most beautiful monuments we visited when in DC. You have to come and see this memorial it was stunning.
Free accessible parking. Go early in the day as to avoid crowds. Even then, there are tour buses dropping off people at 8am. Worth the visit to pay respects.
Incredible Memorial, must see.
Very nice for who likes the marines history
I went in August and it was extremely hot and humid. Dress appropriately!
If you're a Marine, it's a bucket list must do...absolutely awesome!
It's a nice Memorial.
Three capitol bike share stations in the vicinity, so it’s a good stop for a biking city tour. Lots of open grass for a picnic. Walking distance of Arlington cemetery.
Awe inspiring and witnessed the raising of the flag over the monument
Awesome history. Glad to see they have the Marines who have served in the Gulf wars
Fantastic sculpture, size is impressive. Very peaceful park location. Not close to Mall, need transportation to get there. Parking is free and close to monument.
Amazing bronze sculpture, truly an amazing monument to American service and the protection of freedom and democracy.
As a Marine, a must see while in or near D.C. Highly recommended!!
What an amazing place. The Iwo Jima memorial brings out the Patriot in everyone! The tulips in the Netherlands section were at full bloom when I visited. Beautiful place. Needs restrooms though. The portapotties need better maintenance.
God Bless America! Easy access and parking at the monument.
VERY NICE LOVED IT. Very nicely done.
Just go. AWESOME! Inspirational. Beautiful. Important. Worthy. Reflective.
Pretty cool place. I hadn't been before.
Very surreal to stand under the shadow of this monument. Can't wait to go back.
Beautiful statue. Really captures the message it stands for and the people it wants to honor. Also a nicee view over Washington.
One of the most beautiful statues ever. Great scene again
The invasion of and battle for Iwo Jima were bloody, costly and tragic. The courage of our Marines to assault Mount Suribachi and raise our flag to encourage and inspire their fellow Marines is memorialized in this remarkable statue. Tough to get to though.
A fine place to recharge the soul!
I saw a crow so that was pretty lit
Wonderful Semper Gumby
Absolutely breathtaking! There is an extra arm to represent Jesus helping them hold the flag because they could not do it alone.
A very nice memorial and big area for family or group of people.
Beautiful. The memorial is in Arlington, and right next to a section of Arlington National Cemetery. Definitely try visit both. The history of the monument itself is interesting, and visiting both sites together is incredibly moving. We visited at night as you can see in the photo. Not only is the monument well lit at night, when you are there you have a great view of DC.
Was very touching. Have seen the Mt where the flag was raised and touched the beach near by so it was special to me
It's iconic flag planting sculptural work depicting American soldiers reminds me of war pictures of a notable photographer and the movie "Sands of Iwo-Jima" that I've seen when I was a young boy. My eyes were glued to it when I first saw it in 1997 and all other bronze cast sculptures about unknown heroes are truly masterpieces shown in an outdoor museum.
It's like taking a walk through history. It gave me a much better appreciation for all of the heroes who fought for the freedoms we all enjoy. I highly recommend a visit here.
I was married here, between the 2 oaks by the Netherlads Tower. Powerful a d beautiful memorial. Makes you proud to be an America.
Evening is best time to visit.
There are no any benches nearby like they show them in Scandal series
Fantastic. Quite a iconic site. Just be sure to watch for wheelchair accessibility. There are no ramps
Lovely park, impressive memorial
Very cool got to see a bunch of Korean war vets.
Beautiful monument with such historic meaning
Another great place in the Washington DC area
Thank God for all who were before me as an inspiration of discipline and sacrifice, love and hope. Semper Fidelis!
Just kept driving around it because it was packed! But seeing it from afar in the day time..then going back again at night time and walking around it and seeing it all lit up. Wow. Breathtaking. Just wow.
Great place to visit. The memorial is so breathtaking. You can get nice pictures all around of it.
Pretty neat, not much to see, didnt stay long.
Awesome memorial, beautiful place to visit...
One of my favorite memorial hands down
The US Marine Corps War Memorial Park and Monument is located on the west side of the Patomac River, north of Arlington cemetery. The memorial park is a pleasant atmosphere with a lot of wide open lawn space and several large trees in the area. The memorial is very large and sits at the center of a circle drive area, with parking behind the monument itself. On a Wednesday, late afternoon it was not crowded and a nice break from a very crowded Arlington cemetery. The only hiccup was navigating surrounding area to get to the park. It was a bit of a pain for a non-local and the GPS updates sometimes didn't come in time for the turns and the traffic. Otherwise it was a very nice place. One of the highlights of the trip so far.
Probably one of my favorite memorials in DC. Parking was easy and we spent a good amount of time just admiring the surrounding.
This is most definitely a memorial one should not miss. It is iconic and breathtaking. You do not have to go through the Arlington Cemetary to walk to the USMC War Memorial, you could Lyft or Uber to just this memorial if you wanted to.
Our tour bus took us to many memorials...this one was most outstanding. 1 of my 4 brothers (Dan) was a marine as was my granddaughter's husband Ricky who was killed in Iraq in 2008 at the young age of 23. Through out history The Marines have fought for our freedom and some gave all. Semper Fi Dan and Semper Fi Ricky. You are not forgotten.
THE STANDING TRIBUTE... BEAUTIFUL SITE...thank you for giving us a place to go, reflect, and remember all those that have gone before us!
The details on this sculpture & the size of it was amazing. All the way down to the wrinkles in the pants & the veins in their hands. A very beautiful tribute!
Its outside the cemetary, and there is parking there. It's a great place but it takes away from the experience when all the bells are going next to it.
Understanding the significance of this memorial is outstanding! The history the Marines have played in keeping our nation free cannot to exaggerated! I think this is one of the greatest memorials in our country, and therefore in all the world! You can see the entire mall from this site. Be respectful and honoring to this place, and you'll be respectful to the United States.
Really cool to visit at night! Less people
Awesome. Makes you proud to be an American!
Working on it but needs more tender love.
Such a beautiful but sad place. So glad I saw it though.
Much bigger and nicer than I anticipated everyone should visit to memorials in DC
Very nice, totally exciting and awesome.
Iconic location in DC. Highly recommend everyone go there.
AWESOME, Vietnam WAR VETERAN MARINE.
Awesome experience. Must see.
One of my favorite memorials in all of the DC area.
Amazing memorial to honor those who have served The U.S.A.
The best view for the 4th of July fireworks.
There is lots of talk about the flag erection scene being a set up job but nonetheless it is very emotive. Coaches of veterans arrived whilst we were there. We heard lots of "thank you for your service"
Recently renovated sidewalks. Semper Fidelis
Beautiful and peaceful park to have a nice picnic. Lots of great trees with ample shade. The monument is full of intricate details. Spend some time walking around the whole statue to take all the details.
Great place to visit and to watch the fireworks on the 4th
Beautiful monument. I was surprised at its size.
Well done and great place to see.
One of my favorite monuments in the country. Amazing photo op
As a former Marine this is the best monument out of all branches of the military.
Semper Fi! The nearby bells play beautiful patriotic tunes at 2000, to include the Marines' Hymn.
