This place is a wonderful exploration of the final months of the Civil War. Grant's headquarters were here at that time and the views are essentially the ones he had. Scenically it is a panorama of the James and Appomattox rivers. I highly recommend a trip to this underappreciated Civil War site.

Great place to hang out and take in history. Just down the hill at Old City Point Waterfront Park you can relax, read a book or take the kids to enjoy the serenity. Located at the convergence of the Appomattox and James Rivers.

Park is not well kept, extremely tall grass around the water and lots of trash and debris.

This and several other places nearby are actually one complex with one parking lot. access to the river walk is about a block or two away on foot or by car.

Very well maintained with an onsite NPS Ranger even during winter. Look for the live American Bald Eagles. They gave me "goosebumps" when their significance and presence at such an historically rich site was observed

Our visit was a day trip with girl scouts. It was a very interesting tour. The park ranger was very informed of the house & grounds as well as the war as it pertained to our area. He was good with the girls as well (they ranged in ages 6-11) The tour of the house was very nice & the grounds are beautiful. We had a picnic lunch on the porch & enjoyed the beautiful view of the river.

With all the high-priced museums in the area, this great facility is free and gives a real sense of what life was like immediately before the end of the Civil War. Definitely recommend.
