REVIEWS OF Wilgus State Park IN Vermont

Tonya Lamoureux

Nice, simple, quiet state park. They keep it beautifully maintained, and the Ranger and volunteers are very friendly. We've been camping at a primitive site; not sure if there is water and electricity on some sites but that info would be available on the website. There are restrooms with flushing toilets, running water, and quarter showers. They also do canoe/kayak rentals but we brought our own. Reservations were easy to do Online, and when I needed to change last minute, they promptly returned my phone call. I recommend Wilgus if you're looking for an old school camping experience. The sunsets and sunrise on the river are to die for!

Casey Dehler

100 percent beauty. Lots to do and very fair priced. I come here a couple times a year.

Geoffrey Wardman

Been camping here since 2013. Absolutely love the place. Eric, the ranger, is the best!

Dean Myslivecek

Great atmosphere friendly staff. Swimming for kids is not recommended river flowes fast easy to get into the current.

Devin Wood

Very clean park. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, even though one of the park maintenance guys was riding around the dirt roads on a mower with the blade down, blowing dust all over our breakfast. This is not a very private, or quiet state park. Highway 5 is about 25 yards from the campsites, with heavy truck traffic at all hours. There seemed to be lawn maintenance going on every morning. We were lucky and had no neighbors during our mid-week visit. The lean-to’s are stacked right on top of each other with very little space or tree cover in between. We had booked a “prime lean-to with water access” only to find that water access was THE water access for the whole park, and led all of the visiting traffic through the front yard of our site. We enjoyed our stay, but won’t be back. We checked out Ascutney park down the road, it seems to be much more wooded and private. If you want the ultimate in privacy and quiet, Maidstone is the spot.

Been coming here for 37 years. The park Rangers are very accommodating. The sites are nice and clean. Not very isolated but enough as can be expected. Beautiful morning view of the CT river.

Small, clean and right on the water! The cabins are very nice. I want to come back when it's warmer and take advantage of the kayaks and canoes.

We only stayed 1 night but found this place to be well organized and very clean. Everyone working there was extremely friendly and helpful. The best sites are along the river. All sites are spacious and can accommodate 35 foot RVs. Some sites you may need leveling blocks. We plan on going back and staying longer.

doretta moreau

Bathroom very clean but no paper towels or hand blower. Staff very pleasant and accommodating. Small off the highway park. Very pleasant river runs along park grounds.

Outstanding State Park!! Eric was so nice and gave us lots of tips on things to do in the area. Park staff take pride in their jobs by cleaning the sites to perfection! They deliver the wood to your site and the wood is reasonably price. Restroom is clean and the sinks have warm water! Showers are excellent. Treat yourself and stay at Wilgus sometime. We will be back!!

Chad Moore

super friendly staff and very clean campsites. The showers were unexpectedly nice, but bring quarters!

Watched a bald eagle take flight, very broad chested, awesome wingspan, part of American culture is patriotic pride, lets not be ashamed of making America great again and destroy another icon

Jeffrey Currier

Immaculate. Quiet and Peaceful. Beautiful riverfront. Love Kevin the head guy, and all the other staff as well. He makes his home there and is an awesome, and passionate fisherman. Really fun exchanging stories. I will go back over and over. Great location for day trips. I highly recommend everything about Wilgus.

was never there only drove by

Terry Terry

Very nice. But a bit noisy near the cabins after 10pm.

Larry McCarthy

Rented group site last year for a kayak, fishing trip. We had Columbus Day weekend, loved it. When checking in, the ranger and a guest were talking about that site. Last thing i heard "make sure i get it next year" I called on the date the ranger told me about and it was booked already. Friends discount i believe, didn't think Parks could do that.

This place is amazing. Right next to the Connecticut River, clean facilities with very inexpensive showers, plus they keep the whole place looking immaculate.

Our second time at Wilgus and we are happier than ever! This campground is my new go-to for Vermont camping. Excellent location for kayaking and canoeing (there is a board launch in the property), and the bathrooms are clean and well maintained. Ice and wood available on site. The staff is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They made us feel so welcomed. Will be coming again and again! :)

David shipman

Have to buy their firewood or bring in your own state approved firewood.

Arash Setayeshi

Cabins have a lovely view of the Connecticut River, and the Otter one can still get a bit of wifi from the Ranger's station for you people who can't put your smartphones and tablets away. Campsites are kept in immaculate condition, except some of the chipmunks seem to have noticed that people leave their food out and are quite bold. Bathrooms and showers are also nice and clean. Not much in the way of hiking at this park, but is so close to Rt. 5 that you can drive over to some other park and get some serious hiking done before retiring back to your cozy cabin in the evening. Ask the ranger when the best time is to catch a view of the flying squirrels heading out for the night too!

Meilech Klein

There are many tables... and fire places.... nice place to sleepover in the woods ... restrooms on premises... nice lake in the park too!!

Ramblin Man

Outstanding park with outstanding facilities and, most importantly, outstanding people. The park staff are very professional and they seemed to love their job. The park is an old CCC park so it was well built. It goes beyond most state parks in terms of camping supplies almost to a point of full-service campgrounds at 1/3 the price. The view of the Connecticut River is beautiful and they rent canoes. Lots of cool places within 1/2 hour drive away. We look forward to our next stay at Wilgus State Park!

sin dee

Great clean quiet park.. def going back!! .

Mary Cain

What a hidden gem! Sandwiched in between the woods and Ct River, this tiny haven is ideal for getaways. Loved the layout. Off the beaten path. Definitely will return. Book early as sites and cabins fill up quickly.

This was my first time camping here in about 25 years other than a few upgrades to the bathrooms for accessibility not much has changed and thats a great thing. This is a small park so forget bringing in a 5th wheel or any sort of travel trailer longer than 20ish feet. Its for mostly tents but popups and sub 23' trailers are allowed. It's quiet and directly on the Connecticut river so if you want to fish canoe or kayak in the connecticut river this is the place but be aware the river is in New Hampshire so you will need a NH fishing license. The kids wished there was a play ground of sorts but they both said they want to return next summer.

Have been here many times and always delighted. Small and peaceful quiet and so relaxing. My husband kayaks and I read on a bench on the wonderful river view path directly behind out site. Heaven for both of us. Friendly helpful staff and super clean facilities. You should go!.

Very quiet park and accommodating staff. Eric gave us some good information on viewing wildlife on the river. We were quickly rewarded with an eagle flying overhead and swooping down for a catch, right in front of us. This is definetley a park for paddlers but their is plenty of other things to do

This is the nicest campground I have visited in New England. The sites are spread out, the grounds are spotless. The bathrooms are spotless no matter when you use them. When it comes to the staff you can't beat them, a wealth of information and always there to help. If you are looking for a beautiful secluded quiet campground you gotta try Wilgus

Good: very clean, GREAT wood not like lots of the state parks with green or wet wood, friendly ranger, nice staff. Bad: stupid, loud RV generators, road noise, really annoying generator noise that I am hearing right now! !!! Ugh, make it stop. Quiet at night, but ugh the RVS!
